Mac keeps booting into Recovery mode

HI,
my macbook pro mid 2009 keeps booting into recovery mode,
if I select primary disk in recovery mode or at boot holding shift it quickly showes crossed out circle instead of an apple at boot screen than boots into recovery mode  again.
I have repair permessions, repaired disk (no errors) and reset pram but no luck.
Is there anything alse I can try?
Thank you.

Looks like some files might be damaged. You will likely have to reinstall the operating system. I hope you have a back up of your data.

  • My MacBook won't boot into recovery mode after new hard drive installation. Please help!

I just installed a new hard drive. On boot it keeps on going to the flashing folder with a question mark inside.
I was able to format the new hard drive but am unable to boot into recovery mode to install the operating system over the air.
When I hold down Command -R it keeps on taking me to the flashing folder.
    Please help!

A new hard drive doesn't have a recovery partition. It's totally blank. You're going to need either your original install discs or a Snow Leopard retail disc from which partition, format and install OS X.

  • How do I boot into recovery mode with wireless keyboard

I am unable to boot into recovery mode using either cmd-R or holding down the alt key. How is it supposed to work?

I understand your concerns - I'm glad both of my machines are dual bootable (just in case) and I have my Snow Leopard install disks..... However, this is what Apple has decided, so we need to find the best way to deal with it. Personally, I've tested the recovery mode several times and, at least on my machine, it was not reliable (i.e. it wouldn't work - I tried it again and it did, but it spent more than an hour downloading the entire 4 GB installer again and then another 30 minutes installing it), and on a third try, I found that it had vanished because I had cloned by drive. When you clone, only your system is cloned, not the extra partition.
So, I've decided to rely on a) my bootable clones and b) a copy of the installer (.dmg) in case my clones fail. I don't feel comfortable relying on something that requires an internet connection and a full download to work. But, that works for me; you may want to take a different approach.

  • Mountain Lion only boots into Recovery mode after using iCould lock

    Hi everyone!
I have searched the forums for hours now, but I can't seen to find an answer to my question, so I'd like to ask it.
Recently my system partition failed due to frequent kernel panics caused by a cable in the screen I think. The kernel panics still occur, but I don't know what to do with them.
I managed to save my files and reinstall my osx, which is Snow Leopard (the disc came with the computer). Then I wanted to install my purchased copy of Lion through Appstore, but it said it's no longer available in my country and I couldn't download it again.
Then I decided to buy a copy of Mountain Lion which I tried to install. I managed to do it, and I tried to explore my new operation system.
I tried the iCloud app as well, including the Lock. It locked the computer, and rebooted, but ever since I couldn't unlock it.
When it asks for the password I enter it and it accepts it, but doesn't unlock, only lets me into Recovery mode. Now I reinstalled the whole thing over again and when the Mountain Lion install finishes, it only boots into the Recovery HD without asking.
So if I reboot my computer, no matter what I do it only boots into Recovery Mode.
    Please help!!
    Mike

I was afraid the Apple Store wasn't going to be an option.
Based on your previous post, I was under the impression you could download Mountain Lion, but when you installed it, it locked up again. Not true?
I don't know how to remove it. You can try contacting Apple support through the link below to see if they can help you get this unlocked.

  • MacBook Pro OSX 10.9- Cannot boot into recovery mode or use USB bootdisk

    Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with my MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9. I want to re-install the operating system, however the computer freezes when being booted into recovery mode or when rebooting into a USB boot disk. Either the spinner freezes or it moves to a screen with just the Apple logo.
    Thanks in advance

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

My phone keeps going into recovery mode. I've had rest 5 times now. I was told I need a new phone. Any resolution??

Maybe you should consider that new phone recommendation you got...
    Who told you that?
Is the phone jailbroken? Was it hacked to unlock it? Has it been physically damaged? Did you get it wet?
You haven't provided anywhere near enough information.

  • OS X Lion 10.8.2 won't boot into recovery mode

Help! OS X Lion 10.8.2 won't boot into recovery mode, I get a grey screen, the apple icon and the spinning symbol...Does anyone have any suggestions?
Have a MacBook Pro (2009) and had no problems until upgrading to LIon from Snow Leopard... thanks!

Hi there - thanks very much for your suggestion, it did reboot eventually but took a long time to get there.
I've have run Disk Utility. After Verifying the disk it said it needed Repairing - so tried doing that and got the message " Error: Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files" I have got Time Machine but haven't backed-up since Dec 12...Can I use "Restore" to copy the MBP HD to an external HD and then re-install Lion?

  • Booting into recovery mode and Web service in 10.7 server

I have two servers: Server A is running 10.6 server and server B is running 10.7 server. Both are on the same LAN at a data center. My questions are as follows:
1 - is there a way to restart server B into recovery mode remotely? (and not using a KVM)
2 - if server B was booted successfully into recovery mode is there a way to screen share with it from server A? If so how would this be done?
3 - can Apple Remote Desktop reboot a 10.7 machine into recovery mode and still continue to see its screen?
4 - in the Server app of 10.7 server there is a default website setup in the Web service. it doesn't seem possible to edit any of the information for this default website, is this true?
5 - is there any way to get the Web service in the 10.7 Server Admin tools? it is missing among many other services.
    Thanks

Probability is very high that you have a hardware failure. You should get an external bootable drive (or startup with a bootable DVD if you can) JUST to prove that it's not the motherboard, but probably the hard drive that's failed.

  • Ipod Touch Keeps Going Into Recovery Mode

Hi, I've had an Ipod touch for about 6 months now and haven't really had any problems with it to date. Recently (around the time I installed the 1.1.3 firmware), it seems to be randomly going into recovery mode.
When I plug it into my imac, Itunes says it detected an ipod in recovery mode, and I have to restore it. During the restore process the screen lights up with apple logo and spinning wheel, it says successful restore. But the ipod doesn't restart... just goes straight back into recovery mode. It usually takes about 2 or 3 restore attempts before it works properly. I resync and everything goes back to normal for a few uses. Then I go to turn it on and nothing... itunes just tells me to restore again.
Anyone else seen this issue before? I'm pretty sure the batteries aren't flat (since when it finally does restore, they usually start around half full... and I've tried leaving it on the charger for a few hours to no avail). And I only turn wifi on when I need it (usually turned off). I've tried pretty much everything I can find in the help files (hold button, hold+power, hold while connecting to itunes, nothing seems to wake it up... just black screen until a successful restore happens)...
    Thanks in advance...

I had the same problem with my Touch but it started the first day. It was also doing weird things like telling me the battery was full then half an hour later warn me there was only 10% left. It got better for a while but long syncs with iTunes usually threw it into restore mode again.
I finally brought it to the Apple store nearby and they were able to recreate the problem when they tried a sync on their machine. They told me it was a hardware issue and did an exchange right there. I have heard bringing it to an Apple Store will increase your chances of an exchange. Sending it in may or may not get you a new one. Good luck.

  • IPhone keeps going into recovery mode while playing mp3's through Ford SYNC

    Hi There,
I have a 2008 Ford Focus with the SYNC iPod connectivity. I have the latest SYNC software update installed in my car.
Twice now while playing songs via the USB connection with SYNC, my phone has suddenly dropped into recovery mode when it finishes playing a playlist.
Can anyone offer a solution ? It is really annoying having to restore my phone all the time

Ooops sorry about that. It must've been 8.1.2 then? I honestly don't remember.. I wasn't paying attention when I updated since I regularly do it for my iPad, other phones. Anyway, whatever is the latest version of the iOS, it got me stuck in recovery mode.
really sorry about the 8.2 Info

  • Cannot boot into Recovery Mode but need to reinstall OS X, any suggestions?

My Mac boot is stuck at the Apple logo with a progress bar, and even when booting Recovery Mode (Command+R) it is stuck. Hence I don't think I can use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what to do? Thanks!

    FYI:
I have tried booting into Single User Mode, using fsck to repair permissions, but to no avail. However in the Single User Mode I did notice something unusual. When trying to reboot using the command 'exit', a long list of errors came out.
Most were Library/Extensions/... .kext is not authentic; omitting from prelinked kernel.
Some errors were ...: No such file or directory
And afterwards the errors were stuck there and no reboot occurred. I also couldn't type anything.

  • Keeps booting into safe mode ..

I just tried to install the newest version of Lion and it didnt install successfully and now it boots up in safe mode every time. Please help I'm a new mac user and this is not a good first experience for me..
Oh and when I actually boot it into safe mode myself, it says no hardware installled on the wifi.

What happens if you boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
The screen should give you these choices...
    Restore from TM backup
    Reinstall Mac OS X
    Get help online
    Disk Utility
First run Disk Utility Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed". Then, choose Reinstall OS X. This will be an install "in place" and shouldn't effect any of your own data or settings.

  • Mac only boots into recovery

it cant boot into internet recovery and when i boot into option my Macintosh HD does not show but in disk utility it shows up it wont show in startup disk and i cant buy buy osx lion please Help

Do you see this screen? BTW, do you have backup? Previous CD installer for your MB? You could try booting from the install CD to run Repair Drive from Disk Utility.

  • Macbook only boots into recovery mode

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. The other day I was watching a movie on Quicktime and out of nowhere the computer froze up. I waited a minute and then finally just did a force shut down of the computer. I then started it back up but instead of coming to the login screen, it started up in recovery mode, where I get the OS X Utilities window.
I opened disk utility where instead of the normal Macintosh HD listed on the sidebar, it says "disk0s2". I tried repairing the disk and it came up with an error saying it couldn't be repaired and I have to reformat the disk. I took it in to the genius bar and they ran a battery of tests on the hardware and it all came back fine, so he told me it must be a software corruption issue.
Now I could just reformat the disk, but being the idiot that I am, I haven't done a Time Machine backup in several months, so there's files I would really like to recover before going through with the reformat. The guy at the genius bar seemed to think it wasn't recoverable, even by a data recovery company, but he said there's always a chance. Is there a chance? And is there anything else I can try to do at home? I've heard good things about Disk Warrior, but how would I run it if I can't even get to my desktop? From another computer?
I have a 2013 Macbook Pro, retina display, 256GB SSD, 8GB memory, running Mavericks.

I was afraid the Apple Store wasn't going to be an option.

  • IPhone 4 keeps going into recovery mode

Every other day I pick my phone up off a table and see it not responding...the first time I connected it to my computer and it told me the phone was in recovery mode; then began to download software....eventually errored out. But then I found out I could hold sleep/wake and home keys to get it to restart. I missed a few calls from the last time it did this, and I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm definitely taking it to the apple store, but wondering if anyone else is having this problem.

I got home a few hours ago (7:00 PM EST time) and I noticed there was a new iOS 4.0.1 software update, so I decided to it update. The file downloaded just fine but when it tried to update my iPhone it failed (am guessing) now my iphone is in a constant "Restore Loop" and is unusable! It's a BRICK now instead of a phone.
I have tried restoring my iphone from my second computer ( MacPro Laptop ) to no avail, How do I get my phone working again?
