Mac keeps crashing whenever using Office for Mac (possible graphic card problem)
Mid 2010 15 inch MacBook Pro. Played out perfectly for the first two years. As soon as the warranty expired, things went sideways. Do not know why but whenever I try to use Office 2011 for Mac the entire mac freezes for a millisecond and then crashes. Does this repeatedly whenever I try using Office.

I've done a couple of modifications on it but I dont believe they have affected it to such extent. I believe it might be a defective graphic card but at this point, believing the crash was induced by the usage of Office I have done everything possible short to dismembering the Mac and changing the Graphic Card. I have read somewhere that mid 2010s had problems with graphic cards. If anyone has found a way around the changing of the card, I would be very grateful of their opinion and suggestions.

I am using Office for MAC 2008, when I switch to other applications on my MAC, to copy and paste something for instance and then go back to Office window it never brings me back to the window/worksheet I was working on. When Flash "steals focus" from Firefox, you need to click outside the Flash presentation in the browser window, to regain focus in Firefox. A major problem arises when the Flash presentation is in the entire browser window, though. I have a mac book, with office for mac and iStudio installed. When I try to create a document using either one of these; after inserting several photos, the computer locks up and the only way I can get it to unlock is to do a force quit. Why does it do this, and how can I get it to unlock without having to do a force quit?
Are you using versions of the software that are compatible with the version of OS X you have installed? Very often such lockups are caused by application incompatibility.
The problem may also come from trying to use both sets of applications at the same time while not having enough RAM installed. Adding more RAM may fix the problem.
The problem can arise from corrupted support files such as preference files or Application Support files or corrupted cache files.
The image files you are using may also be corrupt thus causing the problem.

For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Other utilities are also available such as Onyx, Lion Cache Cleaner, CockTail, for example.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):

Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.

5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:

Visit www.mactopia.com where you can download the trial version of Office 2011. Install it then register it using your registration number that you have for the DVD.
It would be a good idea to uninstall Office 2004, but it shouldn't be necessary. You can dump the old Office 2004 folder in your Applications folder. -

I currently have 10.9.2 and just purchased Office 365. The 365 won't work for what I want to do. Need to go backe to Excell 2004. Is there anyway to do this with my current OS? Need to interface with a Windows 2003 Excell user.

First, MS Office 2004 will not work on versions of OS X Lion or later including your 10.9.2. On Mavericks you need Office 2011.
Second, the difference between Excel formats in Office 2008/2011 vs. earlier versions of Excel is that Office 2008/20011 uses the ".xlsx" filetype but earlier versions including Windows Excel 2003 use the older ".xls" filetype. The older versions of Excel can't open the newer ".xlsx" filetype ... but there is a way you can exchange Excel files between the newer and older versions of Excel!
In Office 2008/2011 just SAVE AS Excel 97-2004 Workbook (.xls) if you need to use or exchange your Excel file with earlier versions of Excel, Windows or Mac. And, going the other way, Excel 2008/2011 can open and use the older .xls files just fine. -

I have tried to recreate this myself, and your right even after changing ownerships and movie the iPhoto library to the public folder ( Harddrive/Users/Sharing) the second account is still not allowed to access the library. This is strange behaviour because moving the iTunes Music Library to Sharing does allow all users to access the library.
All I can suggest is that you deselect the option in iPhoto preferences (Advanced) to "copy files to iPhoto library" then store your photos in a folder that resides in the Harddrive/Users/Sharing folder - then your wife can use the import command to add them to her copy of iPhoto (she should also deselect the copy to library option)

I have been using Office for Mac 2011 for almost a year now and the issue started immediately after doing the upgrade.
When I start Outlook I can see that it takes 1 minute plus to set up the identity.
When it finally runs it is very slow and no fun to use. It seems that Outlook is using very few resources when I look at the activity monitor.
Overall it seems that my IMac has become slower than before upgrading to 10.8.
I do not have support with MSFT anymore and I do hope that somebody does report this issue to MSFT.
To me it seems to be very clear a result of the upgrade.

I have an iMac version 10.6.8/2.66 GHz Intel Processor and 4 GB memory, with Safari 5.1.10. I had used Office for Mac 2008 but had to upgrade for work. The download (from Amazon) went swiftly, but when I started Word, it did not function too well. Then about an hour later I noticed that my Yahoo email site stopped working, it lost all images and the text just jumbled up on the left side of the screen. No amount of emptying caches or resets/quits/restarts did anything. I called the Internet support, and they just said it was my iMac that had the problem. I have been reduced to using MacMail as my email, but this is tenuous, as my Yahoo account keeps holding things up and constantly asking me for my password (and sometimes it does not accept it). How can I get my computer back?

Actually, the download of Office 2011 for Mac probably was not legal and may have contained bugs or other things meant to make it unstable, or invite a host of issues. The usual path would be Office 2011 for Mac on DVD so you could reinstall it and add the extras from the disc as needed; or fix the installation later on. The updates for security were downloads from Microsoft servers. You'd need a legitmate version with pass code.
Options for Mac and office-like application suites include Libre Office, NeoOffice, and these run free. The latter supports up to Mavericks. 10.9.1 now. They have a word, excel, and other parts a lot like the real office.
If you have a working clone of the system prior to installing the Office 2011 for Mac download and any subsequent and perhaps unseen extras, you could revert to it simply by restarting the computer from the clone, where it resides in externally enclosed self-powered hard disk drive, of a type known to support OS X clones... With ports to help work with most modern Macs. FireWire + USB. Then, clone it back w/ carbon copy cloner.
Short of that, perhaps someone will see your post and offer some indepth method of hunting down bugs via use of Console logs; and maybe booting into Terminal utility to use unix code. It can be rather involved. Maybe Linc Davis will offer some detailed reply that will invite you to read carefully and try it.

No it is not possible.
You can use office for mac, on OSX, but not on windows.
You need to use the windows version, on windows 7. -
Parallel Desktop or Office for Mac?

I work heavily on Microsoft Excel in the office, and have been experiencing all the problems while trying to convert my numbers file to Excel or vice versa. I'm seriously considering of installing an Office for Mac to eliminate such problems. But I got a few questions regarding this issue.
Does the Office for Mac work perfectly in normal Microsoft Windows environment under normal PC? Any issues relating to the conversion so far?
Also I heard from a Mac seller that by using Parallel Desktop I can install all the windows programme that I like. Does this applies to Microsoft version of Office as well? Will it be working fine in my Mac OS? Or still by using Office for Mac would be a better option?

For general use fine, though we have had issues with Excel 2008 conversions to Excel 2003. Is your office using Excel 2003 or 2007 on the Windows side?
We have also had issues with some "features" when opening existing Excel (ie converting) documents with Excel 2008 and some crashes.

For "perfect" compatibility then running the Windows version of Office on your Mac is the "best" solution.
From my experience for 99% of the stuff I need to do either iWork or Office 2008 (even Office 2004) I don't have too many issues.
