Mac keeps waking audio card during sleep
Hey all,
don't know which part of my chain is causing this issue, whether it's the:
- MacBook Pro 13"
- Apple Thunderbolt Display
- OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)
- Apogee Duet sound card
This is the issue:
When my laptop goes into sleep, I can hear the audio card waking up every 30 seconds or so, sending pops through my speakers. It's clearly something that the OS is doing by not completely going to sleep. I tried restarting and whatnot, but it doesn't seem to stop. It's been doing it since the latest update to 10.8.4.
Anyone else? Any suggestion?
Thanks,
Z

Mac Pro Ports cycling power during sleep - waking up drives
If I try to sleep my Mac Pro 6,1 under Yosemite, everything powers down as expected, I’ve even successfully used ‘Jettison’ to eject the USB drives on the first sleep power down. However, the Mac then powers its ports back up, awaking the USB and Thunderbolt drives, and other USB peripherals, and in doing so remounts the disk, which then when it goes back to sleep is incorrectly ejected.
There seems to be a roughly 2 minutes cycling of power of the ports when it sleeps. Powers all down in about 30 seconds, all lights out, screens go dark. Then maybe 30 seconds later the ports power back up, the drive lights (and other USB devices) power back up, maybe for 30 seconds before then powering back down. The screens do remain dark throughout this per Sleep. All this happens while under Sleep, and carries on cycling ports power this way, mounting and ejecting drives incorrectly each time as it goes….. This doesn’t seem right? It never happened under Mavericks. Have I got a Yosemite bug or a hardware issue cropped up by chance when I powered down my computer over Christmas and then installed Yosemite as a clean install?
The Thunderbolt Lacie RAID is NOT being incorrectly unmounted. That's fine.
The two 1TB WD drives in a Hornettek Serial ATA USB 3 connected enclosure are being incorrectly unmounted during sleep as detailed above.
Both these external drives are directly plugged to the MacPro.Whew, I thought I was the only one with this problem. I'm also getting the "double-click" sounds when trying to wake the machine up from the dead zone (after going to sleep- either on its own or after attempting to awaken it a few minutes after manually putting it to sleep).
I've had my computer serviced by a Mac-authorized repair center three times for this issue. The first visit resulted in an operating system upgrade to Leopard, which seem to fix the issue for a few days. When it reappeared, the second visit resulted in a logic board switch- the technician actually kept it there because the problem reoccurred after testing the new board. He then found a broken wire in the power supply and replaced that. On the third visit, they actually had to send it in to the Apple engineering department- who replaced the video card with an updated version of the same.
This is driving me insane- the repair center knows their stuff (I'm in IT, myself so I know they're not incompetent)... they've exhausted nearly every possible solution- replaced every component, different OS, etc... the apple engineers couldn't even fix it. I dread going to the Apple Store because I know the people at the Genius Bar are way less knowledgable than the guys I go to... but since I'm still under AppleCare, I may be able to get a machine swap if they can't fix the problem in a few weeks. -
Mac Pro 2009 RAID Card Prevents Sleep
Not a problem ... just an observation. After adding the Mac Pro Raid Card my 2009 Mac Pro won't sleep. Actually, it 'dozes' ... all programs stop and the displays go dark, but the computer fans keep slowly turning as the computer maintains power to the RAID card to keep the battery charged. Waking from 'doze' is faster than from sleep and energy consumption is minimal, but not zero ... maintaining the RAID card write cache and turning the fans takes some energy, but it seems that the hard drives are parked.
So, unless I plan to be on vacation, in which case I will do a shutdown, which will force the RAID Card battery to discharge, my computer is either awake or 'dozing'. Does anyone see a problem with that?I think it was designed that way...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1346
on the FAQ, the last question addresses the sleep mode. The problem with RAID 5 is that you have the gap problem and that is why the battery (should/is) there. If you lose any of the info on the cache, then you will have to re-build the strips....
(that is why I wanted ZFS as that problem is gone.. with RAIDZ)
It means more power consumption... -

Try ejecting and removing connected devices one-by-one. Turn off Airport and Bluetooth. Some programs may be preventing sleep; try quitting programs one-by-one to identify the culprit. -
Recording music w/G5 or other Macs, Delta 66 audio card or other?
I have a 3 yr old G5 which was a machine I originally leased for some basic in-home music production. I use M-audio's Delta 66 card in it with their mixer. I might upgrade the G5, but the sound card doesn't work with Intel Macs (yet). The recording is pretty basic, maybe live voice and keyboard and then mixing with Ableton Live or GB, using some loops, etc. The G5 may be more of a machine than I need for this. At the time, it was just a chance to get the most powerful Mac, but do I need it for this? This is really more of a music production question, but these boards are always a source of good Apple info, so what the heck.....
thanks!Just a quick follow-up. Today at work I was able to capture onboard audio with Audacity by using a male to male mini cable and looping from the audio out into the audio in port of my Powermac G5. I didn't spend a lot of time with it but basically I captured some Internet radio as a test. It sounded OK for what it was. So maybe that's not the best way but it will work in a pinch. I also sent in a purchase request for multiple seats of Audio Hijack Pro.

Done everything, yet my Mac keeps shutting down when in sleep mode
I have reviewed all the topics here and nothing quite matches my problem.
When I put my computer to sleep, after about 30 minutes, it shuts down.
I have vacuumed the vents.
I checked Console for warnings (there are none).
I reset the SMU.
I reset the PRAM.
It is out of its warranty with Apple Care ... is my computer dying??
Any ideas what to do next?ivanguy35 wrote:

My 3.5 year old 20” G5 iMac recently started doing the exact same thing! It does not seem to be heat related, and there are no warnings in the console either, and it was not part of the ones identified with possible power supply issues.
I’ve checked all of the preferences and settings, ran Disk Warrior and Disk Utilities, checked file permissions (all were OK). Mine only seems to power down after it goes to sleep (but not every time), never in the middle of doing anything. So far, I’ve only noticed it when some of my external fire wire drives are powered up, but that could be a coincidence.
I was beginning to think it’s some sort of software bug, but I suppose it could be a hardware fault with the logic board. But since you are having the same issue, maybe it is software afterall. My software is totally up to date, but it seems that I’ve only started having this problem after installing 10.5.6.

Im using this program called Tomato to download torrents, but whenever my MacBook goes into sleep, the torrent gets an error, then resumse the transfer when my MacBook is woken up. Is there anyway to keep the transfer going during sleep sessions? And if not, what is the best way to keep it transfering.
I don't know anything about Tomato (never heard of it, to be honest).
You probably need to keep it from going to sleep. If that's what you want, you can try a little program called "Jiggler". All it does is jiggle the cursor every so often so that your mac will stay awake. You can find it on versiontracker.com or macupdate.com.
Hope this helps, if not, maybe someone will have more what you're looking for.
cheers! -
Imac waking itself up from sleep mode
i am very concerned about my imac it keeps waking itself up from sleep mode. i checked the prefrences and its not scheduled to wake itself up, do i have a virus?
OK jon,
We stil don't know exactly which iMac CRT you have but this is based on the 350 - 400 Slot loader and is from the service manual:
"Resetting the PMU on the Logic Board
Resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit) on the logic board
can resolve many system problems. Whenever you have a unit that
fails to power up, you should follow this procedure before
replacing any modules.
1. Disconnect the power cord and check the battery in the battery
holder (BT1). The battery should read 3.3 to 3.7 volts.
If the battery is bad, replace the battery, wait ten seconds,
and then reset the PMU (refer to the next step). If the battery
is good, go to the next step.
2. Press the PMU reset switch (S1) once on the logic board and
then proceed to step 3. Do NOT press the PMU reset switch a
second time because it could crash the PMU chip.
3. WAIT ten seconds before connecting the power cord and powering
the computer on. If the computer powers on, go to the
next step. If the computer does not power on, there is something
else wrong with the computer, refer to the symptom/
cure chart, “No Power” in this chapter."

MacBook Pro keeps waking from sleep on its own
My MacBook Pro keeps waking itself from sleep for no reason.
I had the battery changed for free by Apple (apparently it's one symptom of a problem with the original battery) but it hasn't abated. (Occasionally it won't wake up from sleep too, but that's rare and so not much of a problem). The main issue is its inability to stay asleep.
Anyone else had this? I can't find any advice anywhere else and the Genius Bar at the only store I can get to is always fully-booked.
Any help much appreciated.

In addition to Michael's ideas, there have been some weird sleep issues caused by a System Preference, and although your issue doesn't sound the same, if you run on AirPort (and not Ethernet) I'd check it out anyway:
-Open System Preferences.
-Open Network.
-Click on Built-in Ethernet (note what it says underneath it: Not Connected or Inactive; Inactive is what seems to have caused the majority of other issues).
-Click the - button at the bottom of the window to delete the original Ethernet pref.
-Click Apply.
-Click the + button.
-For Interface, select Ethernet.
-For Service Name, enter Built-in Ethernet.
-Click on Create.
-Make sure your Location is set to Automatic or AirPort (or whatever you normally have it set to).
-Click on Apply and close Preferences. -
Imac keeps waking up immediately after being put to sleep
hi
firstly, apologies if this question has already been answered elsewhere in the community
i bought an imac in june of this year (running most up-to-date version of mountain lion), and normally when i leave it, i put it to sleep instead of shutting down
have had no issues in doing this until last night.. now, as soon as i put it to sleep, it goes into sleep mode and then instantly wakes itself up again
i have checked the battery on the mouse and the keyboard (98% and 100% respectively)
i have nothing plugged into any usb ports
any ideas on why it keeps waking up by itself and how to resolve this issue?
thankshello
thanks for your reply
i am new to apple products and to the community, and having read the community etiquette i apologise for not referring to the 'more like this' section before i posted - lesson learned
in respect of your advice, i checked the energy saver options as you suggested and the 'wake for network access' option was unchecked
interestingly, i have never had this issue until last night and i have made no system changes, downloaded or updated anything?
still a bit confused, will read through the 'more like this' posts and see if my answer lurks there somewhere
thanks again -
Mac Mini Intel Snow leopard often dies during sleep. What to do next?
During sleep the screen goes blank on a light grey color and I can only shut down using the power button. I am using an apple blue tooth keyboard and a logitech USB remote mouse. I have run Disk Repair w Utilities and also the MUG has tried Disk Warrior but problem persists. The Mac Mini is about 3 years old. It occasionally also crashes in Safari or Word. Please advise. Am worried about losing files, but so far so good.
I assume you have a current backup, so I would start by erasing the drive and reinstalling OS X.
Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Upon completion quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X. When completed you can restore your data from the backup. -
Mac mini crashes often during sleep
I have a mac mini about 6 months old. Everything was great for a while but for the past few months it's been crashing every 1-2 days during sleep (I go to wake it up and it says it restarted after a problem). I have a bunch of crash reports, I'll paste the most recent below...
When it first started I ran apple hardware test which found bad RAM. This was replaced by company but crashes continue (apple hardware test finds nothing wrong now).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think I had some trouble with my router in the past but have switched to using a TimeCapsule. I will try unplugging from my wired router and go with just wifi next.
If that doesn't work will try the suggestion for a new monitor cable.
After that I'll try replacing RAM with factory RAM again.
...and if that doesn't work Maverics should be out by then and I can do a complete OS reinstall.

I am trying to record in Garageband. I have a mic plugged in to my Avid Mbox and the Mbox into my Mac. The levels on the microphone keep automatically going down, during recording. This even happens when I set the track volume. What could this be cause of this?
Thank youThis causes problems for me. When I place a single .mbox file into a new folder and import that folder I get the following dialogue:
When I click 'continue' I get a new import folder, but the formatting is a garbled nightmare of seemingly random subdirectories upon subdirectories:
Each of the subdirectories under "ASV" should have just contained messages, not lots of embedded subdirectories. Am I doing something wrong?
P.S. I am trying to move mail from an iMac running 10.7.5 to a new iMac running 10.10.1
