Mac Lightroom 4 Videos not importing

I'm running Lightroom 4.1 on Mac OS X 10.7.4.
I just installed Lightroom. Lightroom will not import any of my video files. After import fails to import them into the lightroom library it tells me "there is a problem with the video file" and it lists all of my videos.
90% of my videos were shot on various iPhones.
I have read the troubleshooting video (http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/lightroom/kb/troubleshoot-video-issues-lightroom-4. html#main-pars_heading_3) and did not find it helpful.
Google searches are not panning out either.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't help. Must be something to do with my OS or the way it's configured (maybe some installed codecs?) as it works on my desktop but not laptop. But then I have a whole bunch of other stuff on my desktop that may have changed the basic configuration. One thing I notice is that there is no preview possible in the import window on LR with my mov files - from memory (not at home ATM) the preview was there on my desktop. So that maybe points to a codec issue?

I have recently exported a catalog from my main database (on a mac) with about 700 photos.  Including negative  files
We opened the catalog on a PC machine in the same version of lightroom. 3.5 camera raw 6.5.  The images were given new keywords and then exported as a Catalog  including Negative files.
The original catalog has been deleted from the main database on the Mac.
The  Catalog with the new keywords  saved across the network to the Mac.
Permissions are open to everyone on the folder the Catalog is in.
When I try and import the catalog in lightroom I can see the thumbnails,
However get this message. I’ve lost many hours trying to get the catalog bak into the main library.
I can open the catalog on its own in  Lightroom, just when I try and import the catalog  I get the bellow message.

I see others have had similar problems however do not see a clear answer.
    Has anybody a solution?
    Thanks Patrick

I'm having this issue as well, and honestly I've *never* been able to get "import from catalog" to work. In my case I have a catalog created on my Windows 7 laptop in LR3.5. I've copied it to an external drive, plugged it into my PC running Windows 7 with LR3.5. And I get the "could not import this catalog because of an unknown error" message.
I've confirmed every image in the catalog I am trying to import is accounted for and isn't "missing". There are no duplicate images between the exported catalog and the one I'm trying to import in.
    Thoughts?

Lightroom will not import my photos.   It did up to a week ago.   I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago).   I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto.   I get the following error message:
Some import operations were not performed.
The following files were not imported because they could not be read  [followed by a list of the files I wanted to import]
Thumbnails show up.  LR just will not import them.
Any idea what is going wrong?

If the Import button is not clickable, that means that Lightroom thinks you have no new photos to import (one possible reason is that they are duplicates)
So, you need to figure out why Lightroom thinks that. The way I would do this is to search your Library module for at least one of the photos, by file name. To do this, you would follow all 4 of these steps in sequence:
Click on All Photographs in the Catalog Panel on the left of the Library Module
Turn off all Filters (Ctrl-L or Cmd-L once or twice)
Expand all stacks: Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks
Search for one or more of the photos using the Filter Bar (press backslash), search by File Name

  • I keep getting the error:  "lightroom could not import this catalog because of an unknown error" when trying to import from a catalog?

I have around 400,000 photos of 15 years so given the high number, I organized all my photos into 6 catalogs to avoid potential problems. All the photos and the catalogs are in a 4TB Seagate external hard drive. I use Adobe Lightroom 5 and I use a PC with the latest Windows Office 2013.
I wanted to have a NEW Catalog of all my rated 1 Star+ photos of all the years in a single Catalog. So I created what I called Star+ Catalog and I was told the best option is to import a Catalog at a time and given that there is no means to filter importing only Stared photos, I would import all the photos and then delete all the UnStared photos. I did that for Catalog Year 2014 but at the end gave me the message: "lightroom could not import this catalog because of an unknown error". It actually had imported around 40k photos from about 50k total. I tried again and again and every time I end up with the same thing. I created another new Catalog and stared from scratch and the same ting happened: the ONLY EXACT 40k or so photos were imported and the rest were not!! When I imported Catalog Year 2013 of around 45k photos, it worked perfectly. But when I imported Catalog Year 2012 of 35k photos, the same thing happened!!
I then tried exporting the needed photos to a new Catalog and that worked.  But then when I try to import them again from my Master *+ Catalog I get the same error again!!
I also tried creating a new Master *+ Catalog and tried to import the Catalogs of each year into it and the same error happened again!!!
Any advice: 1) on how to solve this? and 2) if there is a better and easier way to create this Master Catalog of All Stared Photos of All my Catalogs?

OK, my starting point is that LR can happily contain 400000+ photos, and it's a mistake to create a 1 star plus catalogue as you suggest. Instead, I'd recommend you create a master catalogue of all your photos, which you can then query however you want - 2 star, or a certain keyword, or with "xyz" in the title etc.
If you are intent on going that way, you could try a slight change from what you've done so far. Instead of trying to import an entire catalogue and then delete no-star pictures, take the 2014 and 2012 catalogues and select only the 1 star photos. Then do an Export as Catalog for these items, and import the 2014-1star and 2012-1star into your new catalogue. That may get you past the problem images which I suspect are the problem.
If that doesn't work, or if you follow my initial advice, you're going to need to identify the image where the failure occurs. You may have a corrupt image file, and replacing it from your backup may be sufficient to resolve the problem. Alternatively, it may be a corrupt record in the catalogue, and in this case it may be sufficient to remove the image from the catalogue and import it again. You might try selecting everything in the 2014 catalogue and seeing if you can do an Export as Catalog, creating a clean 2014, and deleting 2014's previews folder might also get rid of a potential problem. Something else is to try the Export as Catalog for images 1-40000, then a second Export as Catalog for images 40002-50k.
So a few things you'll need to try, rather than a magic bullet, and a recommendation to change the underlying direction.

  • Video not importing

I did two videos this weekend using the Sony FX1000, with Sony HDV tapes, but the video is not importing.  I open the import dialogue box, select auto, the tape rewinds, but no video shows up on the screen (I've also tried using manual, and on two different computers).  The tape in the camera continues to play, but nothing gets imported!
I've used this same camera and tapes in the past without any issues.
    Thoughts and suggestions?

Did you resolve this problem? I'm having the same issue and was hoping that someone had worked something out.

  • Lightroom 5 not importing photos directly from card

I have Lightroom 5, and it's not importing photos directly from the memory card, either via card reader or with the camera plugged in.  I have a Canon 60D, and am shooting in RAW.
LR5 opens, and the photos show up as thumbnail previews.  I click to import, and I get a message that the files could imported because they could not be read.  If I immediately go to the "my computer" icon, the card reader (or camera, whichever is plugged in) does not show up as being connected to the computer.  If I unplug the card reader (or camera), let Lightroom open, then immediately go to the "my computer" icon before I try to import via LR5, the card reader shows up then.  I have to drag the images from the card onto my desktop, then import the images to LR5.
Anyone know why LR5 is doing this?

Greyed out photos means you have previously imported the photos into Lightroom, and there is no need to import them again (nor is it a good idea to do so). You need to go to the Library Module (not the Import dialog box) and find the photos and use them as you want.
If you try to import a not-greyed-out photo, and it takes "forever", close Lightroom and try deleting your preference file: Preference and other file locations in Lightroom 5

  • Lightroom does not import my images from 70d camera sd card when there is video on it

I am attempting to import images into Lightroom 5 from a wedding that was shot on a 70d canon camera and recorded to an sd memory card. There are also two short videos (less than 2 minutes each) on the card. Lightroom acts as if it is importing with the progress bar showing but it just hangs there and nothing gets imported. I even tried unchecking the two videos but still nothing. I had no trouble importing images when I didn't have any videos on the card.

I have the very same problem. I only noticed it in LR 5.4/5.5. If there are any videos on the card, then Lightroom is unable to see or import any of the RAW files on it. I currently have to import the videos, disconnect the camera, delete the video files, and reattach it before Lightroom can see the CR2 files. This was not an issue in Lightroom 5.2/5.3 as far as I know. I have not changed SD cards or anything else other than upgrading to Lightroom 5.4 (and later 5.5 when I found the problem). Any help is appreciated.

Working on Premiere CS6.  Mac OSX 10.9.5

    Thanks Kevin,
I'm not sure if you can see my question, but I'm working in CS6 (not CC).  I can import audio off .mxf files but the video won't accompany it.  I've attempted conversions in various software & the result is the same.  I get audio only, and no video--but I can see still images of the video periodically.)
So, if you have an solution for that specific problem, I'd love to hear from you.

  • Lightroom is not importing all photos in a folder

OK, so converting tags back and forth does not seem to help. The only way I've been able to get iTunes to recognize these tracks is to completely remove the id3v2 tags. If I readd the tags after that, it works too.
I have around 5000 tracks (randomly located, of course) that are messed up, so my only option would be to use some tag program to remove all tags from my library (around 15,000 tracks), and then to readd them. Not an attractive option.
I'm really pretty disgusted with iTunes at this point. It seems that, well, 1. using it to convert my id3v1 tags to id3v2 screwed up a good chunk of my tags, and 2. any other mp3 player can recognize these tracks.
Between my wife and I, we have 3 ipods, so it would be nice to get some support directly from Apple at this point. Sorry to vent, but my wife wants to kill me because she can't get the Smiths or the White Stripes, among many, many others on her ipod. Argh....

  • AVI video not importing correctly

My codecs just got messed up today when I was trying something out and so I had to download new ones. When I try to import .avi files now, the footage, during certain times, has some issues. (It's hard to describe) I wouldn't just say it's pixelated, but large pixels are distorted showing other colors, in the shape of some objects in the video. It does this every few seconds. The video is compressed, too. Even after I render the movie, it still does this. The playback speed is normal, it's just these pixels that keep destroying the footag. It's almost as if the program is not conforming the video correctly when I am importing it, and it's corrupting the video. What do I need to do to fix this? Additional codec(s)? I used to be able to import .avi movies with no problem. This is really bugging me. Thanks!

If you look at the CODEC, it is Xvid, the opensource version of DivX, just as I suspected. These will almost never work in PrE. The best workflow is to go to before the Xvid compression (these are heavily compressed, loosing a ton of data and quality), or to convert them to DV-AVI Type II files with 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. I use DigitalMedia Converter, but it is shareware. Many users sing the praises of the free Prism to do the conversions. I have never used it, but many here have, and give it very high marks.
Note: no conversion program can ever reclaim that lost data and quality. It is lost and gone forever. That is why my first option was to go back to before that compression was applied. However, conversion will yield files that can be edited with both Video and Audio.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] not sure why/how they were working before. Usually, with either the Xvid, or DivX CODEC's, one will get a Cannot Import error, or will get either Audio, or Video only. I have never been able to edit any Xvid, or DivX files, in either PrE, or PrPro - never even once. I just convert, if the client cannot get original source files, and I even have a quality loss diagram to show them how the footage will look - not very good, IMHO. I make them sign-off on that quality loss, before I start.

Tihs is not likely to be happening because of anything on your system (the pattern would be a bit different usually.) This happens because the hardware is dropping frames that cannot be properly translated.
Analog tapes may often contain spots where the magnetism is weak, the tape is stretched, warped etc where the signal that is read off of it when sent from the VCR incorrectly. The reason is that the VCR doesn"t build the signal; it simply does a straight electronic conversion of the signal on the tape to signals on the wire. The problem is that in order for a computer system to understand it as video, the signal must adhere to a strict structure.
When the signal becomes out of order or a part of the signal drops out, a video computer will have a problem and will lose frames unless hardware is present that can anticipate and fill/repair the missing component (most commonly, time-base correction.) These bad signals don"t typically manifest themselves visibly on an analog monitor unless the defect is prolonged (such as distorted video at a bad warp on the tape or the bad video between multiple recording sessions) but they are still there and anything that is trying to compute data from those signals is going to have a problem.
The only thing you can do is try to clean the heads of your VCR or Camcorder using a cleaning cassette or try to run the video through hardware that can do video enhancement/time-base correction, which will repair the signal thus allowing it to be captured uninterrupted. Every time the signal is interrupted, the video processor and DV compressor will take about a second to sync up and resume capture and that is what you"re seeing in those drop-outs.

  • Lightroom adjustments not importing into photoshop

I have edited dng images in lightroom 3.2. I have selected lens profiles to correct vignetting. When I click open in Photoshop CS4, all the edits except the lens profile corrections export to Photoshop. The lens vignetting returns. Is there a setting somewhere that I can correct so that all editing in lightroom is reflected in Photoshop CS4. Has anyone else experienced this?
In addiion, is it possible to have a trial version of Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop CS5 installed at the same time.
    Jim

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the link. Before I got the link, I downloaded a trial version of Photoshop CS5. This fixed the problem. However, as a CS4 bug I also tested this with CS4 as a second edit-in preference in Lightroom. This also worked, however I am not sure that this was a valid test. Once I downloaded CS5, it became the default editor and there appears to be no way to remove it as the default editor without uninstalling.
Please note that when editing in Photoshop that the resulting psd (I have not tested other formats) imported back into Lightroom is about a half-stop brighter. I noticed this before but never reported it as a bug. It would be nice to fix this before 3.3 is released.
Is there any way that Lightroom will remain in the Edit module when doing a Compare. This drives me crazy. Many times you want to edit images by having them side by side with previous shoots or images that someone has sent you. Now it is constant bouncing back and forth.
    Thanks for the fast feedback.
    Jim
