Mac loses Time Capsule (3TB, MD033) disk all the time

Hello! Strange problem - my OS X devices (iMac 2012 27* and MacBook Retina 13 2013)  lose Time Capsule 3TB disk all the time.
To be more precise: in finder when I click AirPort I have a "Connecting..." rolling all the time.
2-3 minutes pass and iMac connects OK. Only to lose this disk again some time later.
I would blame malfunctioning TC but I replaced it already to absolutely new one and have EXACTLY the same problems.
The most amusing - is that physically connection is perfect. If you opened file from this disk (for example, watching the film, or copying the  file from or to it) it NEVER fails. you watch the film from TC disk dor few hours and everything is fine. Besides, my PC connected to the same TC NEVER loses connection. But iMac (wire connection) and MacBook - have same symptoms.
Furthermore - Time Machine (both on iMac or MacBook) NEVER loses this disk and makes a backup even if I cannot access this disk from Finder.
And one more strange thing - the Time  Machine WAS losing disk, before upgrade to 10.10.1 (from 10.10). But after installing 10.10.1 the problem was gone from Time Machine but remained for Finder.
I wonder - what's wrong with it? Is seems so unlikely for apple to have such bugs.

Oh you are quite wrong.. Apple have heaps and heaps of network bugs.. Yosemite went a bridge too far with the wireless handoff to iOS.. that causes mayhem.. but there are other issues as well.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
This user has had success and a few others as well.

  • Time Capsule - leaving it on all the time?

Hello: I have a new Time Capsule, and use it as my primary network; it is connected to a DSL modem. Anyway, is there any reason that I should not leave it running around the clock? I have other people in my apartment who use it, so it would be inconvenient to turn it off and on.
    Thanks

Mine has been on continuously since buying it when they came out in the UK in March. One thing it does very well is power up and down, minimising energy use. And the hard drive is supposed to be 'server-grade' or some such marketing tag.
Seriously I think it really is meant to be left on all the time, otherwise, as you say, your network will come and go. Uses 30 watts according to the spec, but I don't know whether this is with the disk spinning or static.

  • Time Capsule Hard Drive Sleeps All The Time!

    Hi All,
does anyone know whether it is possible to change the settings on the time capsule which decide after what period of time to sleep the HD? At the moment it seems very short, this basically means the hard drive is having to spin up from stationary almost every time I use it. Some applications don't like the 2-3 second delay in getting a response from the filesystem. I'd rather it go to sleep after 10-mins of inactvity. i think it's set to seconds at the moment. probably is not great for the HD either.

    vadalus wrote:
yes, i know all those things. i was asking whether this could be changed.
no, you can't change this setting.
But the hard disk drive in the Time Capsule is enclosed in a very small case: it's better to have it in the idle state every time it's possible.

  • Mac Mini extremely unresponsive, pinwheel of death all the time, fails reboot.

I got my mac mini 2011 the MC816LL/A model in February and don't give it much usage so I was surprised when it started behaving erratically and and giving me the pinwheel of death all the time, the issues started all of a sudden a couple of months ago. Even when I force reset the computer fails and then i have to turn it off completely and wait more than 15 mins to be able to use it again, totally ridiculous... I've read all the threads about the issue and they mention OSX lion being sluggish and also to reset PRAM as last resort after I've tried everything under the sun(uninstalling buggy software, repairing disk permissions, general maintenance... etc) I know there has to be something wrong on the software side because I still own an old PowerBook g4 that i got back in 04' and it has never given me any issues so I'm extremely fed up with this issue since this computer is supposed to be better. Any suggestions??

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than ten or so files or folders on your Desktop, move them, temporarily at least, somewhere else in your home folder.
If iCloud is enabled, disable it.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
    Select the CPU tab.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

Boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility. The startup disk may need repairing.

  • Time Machine backs up everything all the time

Time Machine is backing up every file all the time. This is a recent development.
Don't know if this is related but I installed 10.6 on an external HD recently. I was told there wasn't room on the time machine disk so i turned off time machine. I used that boot disk for a week and then switched back to the 10.5.8 drive. After that but I can't be sure the exact date is correlated I noticed the Time Machine backup.

    trinko wrote:
I figured out how much is being backed up by looking at the size of the files on the time machine disk in the finder and with omnidisksweeper.
Those won't show an accurate picture. Time Machine uses an unusual and complex structure, involving multiple hard links (sort of like aliases) at both the file and folder level. The files that were the same at the time of each backup will be counted +*in each backup,+* although they were only backed-up once; the total will exceed the total amount of space used on the disk.
For some reason on Mar 6 Time machine did a new full backup--650GB. Then it said it couldn't do any incremental backups because there wasn't enough free space--the drive had about 300GB free but Time Machine said it needed another 302GB which makes me think it wanted to do another full backup.
Yes, that's possible. Some of the common causes are listed in #D3 of the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
When TM decided it needed to do a full backup, it likely deleted all but the last one, trying to make enough room. Unfortunately, your logs for March 6 are probably gone by now, so we can't figure out exactly what happened then, much less why.
I then excluded all but 100G of files. Time machine did a full backup of that 100G and then on the next days backup it also did a full backup. Files that hadn't been touched were copied based on looking in the Finder and omnidisksweeper said the files were taking the full amount of space as well.
Again, that's not necessarily so. Click here to download the TimeTracker app. It shows most of the files saved by TM for each backup (excluding some hidden/system files, etc.). Some prefer the BackupLoupe application.
Either one should clarify whether everything is really being backed-up each time. Take a look at the subsequent backups from after you excluded all but 100 GB, and post back with your findings.

  • Should Time Machine drive be connected all the time?

I have just bought a Western Digital hard drive, connected it to our imac via Firewire 800, and started the initial Time Machine backup. As the iMac only has one firewire port that I also use for connecting other devices such as my DV cancorder or my Edirol audio interface, I am wondering what happens with Time Machine when it's hard drive is not connected, which will be when ever I am using the firewire port for other things? Time machine is defaulted to back up every hour which it won't be able to do if it is not connected.
Will Time Machine just pick up and do a back up when it is reconnected?
Or, would it be better to use one of the USB ports, even though this is slower, and leave the hard drive connected all the time.

This might be better, especially after your initial full backup, just so you don't have to be fooling with the plugs all the time, and perhaps forgetting to re-connect. If your incremental backups aren't large, the speed difference probably won't be significant.

  • How can i fix my mac book pro. My safari crashes all the time, my screen will turn black for no reason, My iPhoto crashes during upload from my iPhone, I can't highlight anything and I can't drag anything.

Someone PLEASE help me! I cant figure out what is going on with my computer.  I don't install anything weird, but my brother does.  He's very good at computer tech stuff and is in I.T, but I cant help but blame him for all the problems my Mac is having.  Nothing works like it should.  My safari will randomally crash, my screen will randomally turn back, my iphoto will crash during uploading from my iPhone, I cant highlight anything, I can't drag anything.  When I want to click on something, I have to click over and over again just for it to even register.  I know everything is up to date and recently reset my PRAM.  I'm running Lion and have a lot of room on my hardrive.  I have an external harddrive and I'm wondering if I should just move all of my important files over to it and completly wipe out my computer's hardrive and start from scratch.

Some folks can't leave well enough alone, and insist on downloading all sorts of additional "stuff" that ends up making their Mac unstable.
Standard Mac OS X on properly-operating Hardware does not crash, unless you start installing too many add-ons.
You can run "just the basics" by holding down the Shift key at Startup. This does one pass of Disk Repair, then loads a minimal set of extensions, and comes up in Safe Mode. If it works OK that way, but crashes in "regular", it's the add-ons.
There ia another layer of add-on junk that can be added to Safari. If the only remaining problem is Safari crashing, those add-ons can be disabled as well.

  • Time Machine runs huge backups all the time.  Any Idea Why & How to Fix It?

Right now System Preferences for TM says there is 881MB of available space on my Time Capsule with 998GB of storage.  The TM system preferences has been stuck for hours saying it's backed up 31GB out of 68GB.  No error messages.  My wife and I only use the TC for TM backups.
Any idea why I'm not getting the much smaller incremental, hourly backups that I"m expecting?  This is really slowing down my system.
    Thanks,

  • Saving to SharePoint works only half the time for Windows 7 Users--all the time for Windows XP users

We have a SharePoint 2010 Environment with hardware load balancing, 2 WFEs, 2 Apps Servers and 1 SQL Server. This was built in October 2013. Office Integration and Saving back to SharePoint works all of the time for users on XP. It works sporadically for
users on Windows 7. When Windows 7 users do the following:
Opening an Office Document from computer and saving it to SharePoint
Within a Document Library, using Save As from an opened document
When selecting in a Document Library from the Document Tab> “New” and then the desired content type
Send> Save to SharePoint from within Office Document
They may either be brought to the SharePoint library (correct) or to My Documents (incorrect).
In the case of number 1 (Opening an Office Document from computer and saving it to SharePoint)--using Save and Send will sometimes open the SharePoint library and sometimes open My Documents.
    Our URL is https://CompanyName.domainname.com/Sites/SiteCollectionName
The intermediary "Sites" is actually a blank path.
When My Documents is opened I've noted with Fiddler (a web debugger) that we get a 404 on sites:
    Could this be the issue?

    Some things to double check:
Ensure that you have sticky sessions enabled on your load balancer
Check that your WebDav calls are making it to the server
Ensure that you have a root site collection in all your web apps
Just out of curiosity, what is the http request look like for the 404 error?

  • Mac Slow: I am getting beach ball all the time

    Hello Guys,
I hope you can help me with this issue. Since last week, the beach ball appears frequently, creating some lag (2-10 secs) in my actions i.e. when i want to type in Safari, when I want to write an email, when I open finder, etc. As you can imagine this situation is very annoying given the week before everything was fine.
I haven't installed any new software however updates run automatically.
I decided to do my first backup (yes, shame on me for not do it before), it took almost 3 days to finish!.
I already have run "Disk Utility" and it said "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK."
Please find attached my etrecheck report that could give you more information. Any suggestion is really appreciated.
    Thanks for your help.

  • After latest FF upgrade, on Mac OS 10.6.7 FF crashes all the time now

About a week ago I installed a Firefox upgrade and since then I have been getting lots of crashes. It opens a window to send a message to someone, Apple I think. I am using a Mac with OS 10.6.7. How do I get some help? Where will I find a reply to this message? Will it come to me in an email?
I got an email to confirm I posted this message a few minutes ago and I clicked the link to confirm it and it took me to a page that says there is an error in confirming me. What is going on? How can I get some simple help? How do I remove the latest upgrade?

  • HT1338 my mac pro started running very slow not all the time it is only 2 months old

My new macpro has been running very slow off and on (mostly on) it is only 2 months old I took it into the genius bar and they could not find anything wrong.  I took it home and it ran fine for a short while then started up again. I have watched activity monitor and can see no direct corellation.  Anyone have any ideas?

Did you install anything new lately?
Run any programs that purport to "clean", "speed up", or "optimize" your Mac

  • Since Lion, time machine says 'backup delayed' all the time??

Why, even after I have just completed a back up using time machine, is there an exclamation point and it says 'backup delayed'.  It never did this before I upgraded to Lion and it doesn't show me the 'oldest backup' in preferences anymore..just a dash mark..almost like it's not been saving my backups?  Anyone else experiencing this?  Is it keeping track of my backups?

For those interested..I reported the bug to Apple and this was their reply.  It is a known bug..so we just have to wait for the fix:

  • Network Mac PC crashes all the time

I use three Macs and a PC in the office. The PC is only to store files that are used on Macs. My network works, but crashes all the time. I tried changing cables, but still does not work. Anyone have any suggestions? The other PCs on the network running the whole time. Only Macs lose network.

when you turn on the computers, the network operates normally. the only difficulty is that while you are browsing folders on the pc, it takes 15-20 seconds to display the content. In the midle of process, Macs not access more the pc. If you're looking for files, finder  just stop. it stops responding. You can't force Finder to restart, you have to turn off the power button. when the engine does not stop responding, and you try to access the PC a message appears: there was a problem to connect.... If you press command K : the was a problem... When one mac dont access the pc, all the Macs dont access the pc.
