Mac: lost MX 04 site definitions

Hi, all,
Thought I'd try to do a better job of explaining what my
issue is. In DW MX 2004, on my Mac G5, I removed and replaced my
preferences and library files to fix a problem Apple was helping me
with. In the process, I lost all of my DW site definitions. I have
the old prefs and library files and have put back everything that
looks Dreamweaver-ish, but the site defs are still missing when I
launch DW.
Is there a file or two that contains these definitions, or am
I stuck re-creating them?
Thanks!
Chuck

Yes, check the Dreamweaver FAQ. You'll be surprised what you can find in there. You're in luck because you're on a Mac. Windows users who fail to export their site definitions won't be so fortunate.

    deadlines.
If I re-import the definition it works fine again.
I just recently spoke with someone else that has the same

I also noticed there were some posts in here referring to IE
7 Beta as being the problem, but I have the regular version of IE 7
    and never installed the Beta.
Has there been a fix posted anywhere?

  • DW MX Site Definitions for Verizon FIOS? Mac

    Hello, Everyone,
First time poster, longtime user/dabbler. All help is greatly
    appreciated.
I'm using DreamWeaver MX for Mac and trying to do a site
definition for Verizon FIOS. The instructions on their web site do
not work, are sketchy at best anyway, and Verizon's tech people
don't give tech support on this in general and don't know the
    answers so far!
Does anyone know what to put in the fields for an ftp
connection in site definition? Really - is anyone successfully
using DreamWeaver with Verizon fiber optic?

Send me your connection info offlist, please -

  • Lost site definition in CS5.5

My IMac crashed and now l the Site Definitions file is lost, I have tried to do a restore from my Time Machine but I am unable to find the Site Definitions Folder
I have even tried reinstalling Dreamweaver as per the instructions in the Adobe support site after reinstalling DW I am still unable to make a new site, I am getting an error message that tells me that the Sprite Assets folder is not inside the site
Should I move the Dream Weaver application from the Applications Folder to the Trash and reinstall DW? or what?
    Some help will be appreciated

Whenever DW starts acting up, the first thing I do is clear the program cache:
    Deleting a corrupted cache file
If that doesn't take care of it, I move on to restoring preferences:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs4-cs5.html
If restoring preferences doesn't clear the issue, the "nuke it from orbit" option would be a fresh re-install using the Cleaner Tool:

  • Mac users: back up your site definitions before applying the 11.0.2 update

The 11.0.2 update to Dreamweaver CS5 is intended to fix the problem with FileVault on Mac OS X. I don't know the full details, but I presume that it locates the program settings in a different place or rebuilds them. Unfortunately, this has the effect of deleting login details for sites you have set up in Dreamweaver. Make sure you back up your site definitions before applying the 11.0.2 update on a Mac.
The update doesn't affect site definitions on Windows (at least, not in my experience).

One could also try a machine restart after the patch has been successfully applied.

  • Lost Site Definitions

    Hi All,
Using Dreamweaver CS3 & Mac OS 10.4.11, so no Time Machine
Opened DW this morning and ALL site definitions gone. Have some of them backed up to .ste so can recover them easily, only about 25% though.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Can I transfer site definitions from PC to Mac

More specifically, I have a registry export of all my site definitions from DW MX 2004 on a PC and I now have DW CS4 on a Mac. The registry export was the recommended way of exporting all sites in DW MX as it was only possible to export one site at a time using the export site tool. So I now have a file containing all my site definitions which I cannot use on a Mac.
Is there any tool to convert the registry data into .ste files so the sites can be imported on a Mac?

Mac isn't able to read Windows registry files as anything other than text.
If at all possible, I'd try to find a PC with DW and see if the registry files can be converted to .ste files.
CS4 on Mac will read the .ste and set all the site preferences.
I move my sites back and forth between a laptop (PC), a desktop (PC) and my MacBook all the time The easieat way to update my site cache is to reimport the .ste when I replace a site folder.

  • CS3 quit and lost all site definitions

I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary when Dreamweaver
CS3 suddenly quit. When I relaunched the app, all my site
definitions were gone. Any idea why or how I can get them back?

Had you EXPORTED your site definitions previously? If not,
    you may be out
    of luck.
It's always a good idea to keep a backup of your site
    definitions by
EXPORTing them from Site Manager to cover you for just this
    kind of thing.

  • Site Definitions Missing in DW CS6 Mac

I had to reboot my computer this morning and when I reopened DW, none of my 100+ sites were defined. After reading several forum posts I've restored both my site prefs and configuration files from Time Machine without any help. Is there any other way to restore them other than recreating them manually?
    Thanks!

If you previously exported your site definitions to .ste files & saved them in a safe location, you could import them into DW.  Site > Manage Sites > Import Site.

  • Site Definition losing FTP User ID and Password

    My configuration:
    iMac 2.4 GHz Intel C2D
    10.6.1 Snow Leopard
    DW v10 (Build 4117)
Not sure if my issue is related to the one described in this thread.
I recently performed a clean install of Snow Leopard and DW. Afterwards I imported my site definitions and everything was fine. On quiting and then re-opening DW the FTP User ID and (optionally Password) in the site sefinition(s) have disappeared. I re-entered them and am able to connect to my site(s) via FTP, but again on closing and re-opening DW the information has disappeared again.
    What I've done;
    - deleted and re-configured all Site Definitions several times.
    - deleted the ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS4/en_US/Configuration/ folder
    but still the problem persists.
Not sure if this a Snow Leopard/DW incompatibility issue, but I do recall this happening maybe once or twice with Leopard.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    I beleive this happens if:
    - you are using a trial version
    - you don't enter your keychain password to record this information
I lost my kechain passwordon my mac,and i have to reenter password and FTP info everytime. Very frustrating util I can find the time to figure out how to reset my Mac keychain password.

  • Site definition has disappeared

hey there, I did a disk cleanup last night and lo... this
morning I have no file information on dreamweaver. I have learnt
from this to keep a record of all the site definition data , but in
the meantime, as I hadn't made a note of those, I have lost all the
details for connecting to my three websites.
Can anyone tell me where this information may be and how I
can reconnect dreamweaver to it? I haven't emptied my recycle bin
yet but can't see anything in there that may contain this data.
    love Kim

What version of DW do you have, Kim? If you have 8 (I can't
    remember if MX
2004 had this or not .. been years since I used it), you can
    reimport the
site definitions (if you exported them initially). If you
    don't have the
ste files saved somewhere, then you'll have to rebuild them
    .. thank
goodness you only have 3 and not 30. :)
The site definition info is stored in the registry on Windows
    .. not sure on
Mac. However .. if it's gone .. it's probably gone from the
    registry as
well and unless you do it routinely, I don't advise people to
    mess with the
    registry.

  • Where have my site definitions gone?

I launched Dreamweaver CS5 today, only to find that none of my 30+ sites were available in my Site Management window, and I don't know why.  The only clue I have is that a couple weeks back, I updated all of my Adobe programs, for the first time in a month or two.  Dreamweaver was among them, as I remember it specifically.
Since that update, I hadn't launched DW until today, only to find my sites missing.
I've found a few posts about something similar to this, and have attempted their solutions.  These include verifying/repairing my keychain, and replacing my Site Prefs file (user>library>application support>adobe>common>10>sites) from a Time Machine backup.  Neither of these worked.
I have months of solid backups through Time Machine, at this point I just don't know what I need to restore though.  Does anyone have any insight or suggestions to how to remedy this problem?  It will be a major inconvenience to have to setup all these site again.
PS. Note that all my site files are secure, I have only lost the site definitions in Dreamweaver.
Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

I launched Dreamweaver CS5 today, only to find that none of my 30+ sites were available in my Site Management window, and I don't know why.
Nobody does!  This is an intermittent (luckily rare) problem that DW has had for years.  THe solution of course is to keep a full backup of your site definitions using the Site Manager's EXPORT function.
Anyhow, on a Mac, your site and site prefs are saved here -
    /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/11/Sites

  • Backing up and restoring site definitions

Losing your site definitions in Dreamweaver can be a disaster, but it does happen sometimes. The best way to prepare for such an eventuality is to back up your site definitions on a regular basis.
    Creating a backup
You can back up all your site definitions in a single operation by selecting Site > Manage Sites. In the dialog box that opens, Shift-click to select all site names, and then click Export.
In Dreamweaver CS6, the Manage Sites dialog box looks like this:
In earlier versions of Dreamweaver, it looks like this:
Dreamweaver asks if you want to include passwords and login details (this is the default option). Whichever option you choose will be applied to all sites, so click Cancel if you want to treat some sites separately, and export your sites in two sets by using Ctrl/Cmd-click to select them.
When you click OK, Dreamweaver asks where you want to export the definitions. Navigate to a suitable location, leave the File name field unchanged, and click Save. Although only one site name is listed in the File name field, Dreamweaver exports all the site definitions as .ste files in a single operation.
NOTE: This process backs up only the details of your sites, such as the location of the root folder, FTP details, and so on. It does not back up the actual files in your site, such as .html (or .php, .asp, .cfm) files, images, and style sheets. It's a good idea to use your normal file backup routine on your actual files from time to time, as well as exporting the site definitions.
    Restoring site definitions
In the event of losing your site definitions in Dreamweaver or moving to a new computer, open the Manage Sites dialog box, and use the Import button to navigate to your backup .ste files.
    What if I don't have a backup?
Often, if you don't have a backup of .ste files, you need to go through the whole process of re-entering the details for each site manually.
However, you might be able to restore them by using a restore point on Windows or Time Machine in Mac OS X.
On Windows, the site definitions for Dreamweaver CS6 are stored in the Windows Registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Common\12.0\Sites.
In Mac OS X, they are at Macintosh HD:<username>:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common:12.0:Sites:Site Prefs.
In recent versions of Mac OS X, the Library folder is hidden. In the Mac Finder, select Go > Go to Folder, type ~/Library in the search field, and click Go.
Dreamweaver CS5.5 site definitions are in the same location, except use 11.5 instead of 12.0. The numbers for CS4 and CS3 are 10 and 9 (without a decimal fraction) respectively. For earlier versions of Dreamweaver, substitute Macromedia for Adobe, and adjust the number accordingly.
If you don't have a backup of the actual files on your site, download the files from your remote server.

    Hello,
We are running iPlanet 5.2 Messaging Server and need
to migrate to another (duplicate) 5.2 Messaging
Server. We have all the software installed and the
LDAP user accounts created. Now we just need to move
the existing mail from one server to the other.
I found the Backing Up and Restoring the Message
Store section in the Admin Guide says to back up and
restore your data, Messaging Server provides the
    imsbackup and imsrestore utilities.
However I am wondering about the Queue?
    Under <instance>/imta/queue
What is the difference between the Message Store
and the Queue? The Message Store is where messages get delivered to, so you can read them.'
The queue is where messages are temporarily stored, pending delivery to wherever they go.
You can use tar, cpio, or what have you for the queue. Stop the server first. . .
You then just restore the files to the new server. No need to restart or anything like that. Just dump the files in, and run
    imsimta cache -sync
to tell the MTA to re-read the queue.
Can I just backup and restore the
    Queue using tar or cpio?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Unfortunately, no. I'm not sure where site definitions are
    kept on a
Mac, but on a Windows machine, they're stored in the Windows
    registry.
Site definitions can be automatically rebuilt only if you
    exported them
    in the first place.

  • Site definition settings - simple question

When I use Dreamweaver to FTP my site elements via my Mac I
have no problems. Sadly not the case with a PC though. I cannot

my Mac. Is this a simple problem to solve?

As David says, such problems are almost always the result of
    Firewall
intervention. You might consider disabling the firewall
    altogether if you
are using a Router for your internet connection, since the
    router also
    provides this functionality.
