Mac Mail 3.3 not RECEIVING certain attachments/java attachment?

I normally get every attachment, outside of from the helpdesk at work.
when it sends out a .pdf, I do not see an icon, or anything.
if someone else in the list (on windows) detaches the attachment, then reattaches it and sends it to me, then I receive it normally.
the support for the helpdesk product said
you need to check in your email client "Leopard" whether its blocking the java attachments in the email
but I can't find any options on that, then gave up knowing nothing about "Mail" on leopard when I asked for more information.

Well, your helpdesk at work is absolutely worthless; apparently they know nothing about Macs or email, or they would have known that there are no such things as Java attachments, and certainly not as part of a PDF file.
From my perspective, the problem is that whomever is sending these PDF files or other attachments is doing it from Windows, which uses a different encoding scheme than Macintosh, so you aren't seeing the attachment, even though it is there. The person who sends it to you must be re-encoding it to be compatible with the Macintosh encoding scheme. Of course, they could avoid this trouble by simply compressing these attachments into a Zip archive and emailing that, but that's probably too simple for them to consider.

  • HT4061 Emails not being delivered via mac mail - recipients claim not receiving

A colleague and I have discovered over last 2 weeks issues with mac mail.
Emails are not being received - but it appears to be RANDOM.
We both use mac mail and have .me accounts.
He sent a group email that I never received until 3 days later when another colleague NOT on mac mail replied to all and I saw that I never received original note.
This colleague sent email to his attorney weeks ago -- and it was just delivered to his attorney's inbox YESTERDAY.
The colleague has also send me a several SENSITIVE correspondences that he confirmed via phone last night that I have still NOT received.
What is going on? is is a mac mail issue or an iCloud issue?
Need some help to get this reported and resolved.
    thank you!

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
For info, CP (Critical Path) has been in use for a few months now for the conversion from using Yahoo! mail servers.
What version of Outlook are you using ?
In the smtp setting, try removing @btinternet.com or @btopenworld.com from the username - despite what the online help might say.
You might like to try port 25, with No security or SSL/TLS setting.
Is it all emails that are failing to send ?
If emails have been fine for years, do you know what the previous settings were ?
As for disabling firewalls - this doesn't always help - as they can still block emails! What security package are you using, and have you checked the settings within that package ?
    Sorry for the extra questions.

  • Mac Mail POP Account Not Receiving Messages

Using Mac Mail, I am suddenly not receiving messages in a POP account. The gmail account I use is working normally. Under connection doctor both accounts are green. Help, please?

Same problem here since upgrading to Mail 7.1 (1827). All the settings are seemingly correct. The emails are marked as 'Read' on the server but are not downloaded.
The emails are also deleted a week later as set in preferences.
Thinking the emails may have gone elsewhere I used Spotlight to look for them. No success there.
Real puzzle and yet another glitch on the latest Apple Mail.
Come on Apple, get your act together.

  • Not receiving certain e-mails but can receive these e-mails on PC with Windows Mail

Not receiving certain e-mails on iPad but can receive these  e-mails on a P C with Windows Mail

Right-Click (or Ctrl-Click) on any mailbox and choose Get Info (you can also invoke this window by typing Command-I). Now, in the Account menu, choose the account that isn't working properly. Does Mail display all your messages there, even those that it fails to download?
If the answer is yes, don't close the Get Info window yet. I'm going to propose a solution that will cause all your mail still on the server to be re-downloaded again as if it was all new, no matter how old it is or whether Mail had already downloaded it. Hence, before proceeding, you may want to delete any messages still on the server that you don't want to be downloaded again. You can accomplish this in the Get Info window by selecting the messages you want to permanently delete from the server and clicking the Remove From Server button at the bottom right of the Get Info window.
    Now, follow these steps:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. In the Finder, open the HOME/Library/Mail/POP-<account-name>/ folder.
    3. Move any files in that folder whose name starts with MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded to the Trash.
These files keep track of which messages have already been downloaded, so that Mail does not download them again every time it connects to the server. Moving them out of the account folder causes Mail to forget that information and start downloading from scratch all over again.
For some reason, the information in these files can become inaccurate at some point for people with Comcast accounts. I'm not sure it is a file corruption problem. When these files are the problem, Comcast seems to always be involved. I wonder why your wife has not experienced the same problem, though. Maybe she just hasn't yet or maybe Eudora keeps track of downloaded messages using a different technique...

  • One Yahoo! mail account does not receive email sent from .mac

OK, this is an odd problem, and any help would be appreciated.
My girlfriend's Yahoo! mail account does not receive email sent from my .mac address. If I send email from my Gmail or Yahoo! accounts she receives the message. No one else has informed me that they haven't received email from the .mac address. Additionally, the .mac account is in her address book.
Anyway, has anyone seen a similar pattern with Yahoo! or any other email provider?
    Thanks.
    - Jennings

Thanks for the reply . . . and yes, the recipient's email provider likely holds the answer.
However, I was hoping someone here might have had a similar experience and could answer as the email provider is Yahoo, and they are slow in responding to help requests . . . for a period I hosted a personal, paid website through Yahoo Domains and help tickets lingered for several days on multiple occasions (this being the reason the site is no longer hosted by Yahoo). I also doubt Yahoo will expend too much energy resolving a problem for a free email account.
Anyway, I posted in the Yahoo mail forums, and hopefully something will come-up . . . .

The 'Winmail.dat' problem has been extensively covered in these forums, I would search for that (a Google search works well) and unfortunately I have not seen the pdf print problem before, but assuming the software is current and functions normally (other than the pdf print problem) I have no suggestion other than the obvious (but time consuming) re-installation of Office.

  • TS3276 Mac Mail on Lion stopped receiving emails on 1 of 3 accounts, but not showing any errors. I can still receive on iPad

I have 3 POP accounts set up on my MacBook Pro all witht eh same provider. No problem sending email. Then the main account suddenly does not receive any email. No error messages and I only worked this out when no emails ther ein the monring. Checking on webmail and on iPad I see lots of emails but then why is the MacBook not getting them. The other 2 accounts work perfectly OK.
    No settings have been changed
    A big puzzle!

    I found the problem.
I had a 21 MB email sent to me. Mac Mail obviously was unable to get it due to some form of time out (but no error messages) and since this one could not be downloaded it prevented everything else after it to be downloaded.
Surprisingly the iPad + iPhone showed the headers and thus allowed all other emails to be also displayed after it.
Deleting this big email from webmail cleared the way.
    Problem solved

  • Not receiving certain messages on iPad and Mac

I'm not sure how long this has been happening, but I recently discovered I'm not receiving some of the emails people are sending.  It seems to happen only a small percentage of the time, but there's no rhyme nor reason to it.  I'll receive most messages from, say, my husband or mom, but then they'll ask if I got a particular email and I haven't.  I've looked in the spam and trash folders, nothing.  This is happening on both my ipad and my mac.  Tried looking for a solution and found nothing with no options to email Apple about it.
    Ideas?

Oh, and no, my folders are not full.  I delete messages and trash regularly.

  • Recipients not receiving identical attachments

On a daily basis, my server-side Java application sends email to various recipients in a single send operation. The emails have a comma-separated values (.csv) file attached of about 126 kB. The strange thing that happens is that some of the recipients have the numbers messed up like 1..5848 instead of 1.5848. Only a few out of thousands of numbers have a decimal symbol that is printed twice, but that is of course enough to break automatic processing.
How can it be possible that the recipients do not receive identical files? Only 1 file is generated and it is sent in a single send operation. If I turn debugging on, I see that the Content-Type of the attachment is application/octet-stream, which seems wrong since I am sending a plain text file. However, adding "text/plain csv" to mime.types, as described in the JavaMail FAQ, does not solve the problem.
I do realize that this is a vague problemI don't have any error messages to show youbut perhaps someone has some hints for me where to start looking.

I have created a reproducible test case and selected two recipients: one that always fails and another one that doesn't experience the problem. That's very interesting. If you send the same message
to two different recipients, and one experiences the
problem but the other one doesn't, that means it's
very unlikely that the problem is in the SMTP communication
with the server. (Unless you're sending two separate
messages to two different recipients. If there's a bug
on the JavaMail side, it's almost certainly very dependent
on the exact size of the message, including the headers.)
The only trace I have so far is the output of mail.debug=true, which displays the content of the attachment correctly, but you are referring to something else? No, that's it.
By the way, if I change the list separator into a semicolon (instead of a comma) and the decimal symbol into a comma (instead of a dot), then both recipients do receive identical attachments.Which pretty much confirms that some software
somewhere has a bug with handling the "." at the
beginning of the line in the SMTP or POP3 communication.
After you send the message, how do the two different
recipients read the message? Is JavaMail involved
    in either case?
