Mac mail 4.5 and yahoo mail

Anyone else having problems with mac mail 4.5 and sending mail with yahoo.mail server.  Mine is so erratic It's driving me crazy.  It works fine for a while then all of sudden it will just stop working for days at a time.  This happens without me changing any settings whatsoever.  I have other mail programs using the same servers AND THEY WORK FINE.  So this is total crap.  When I try getting help from my ISP they said it is a mac mail problem.  When I try to get help from APPLE (which is pretty much non existant) they say its an ISP problem.  The only thing I know is that its' my problem and I've given both these companies tons of money and they've left me hanging out in the breeze with arguably the most basic and important funciton of having a computer and an internet connection.  Screw them all I say.
Anyone out there to help with this quandry.  By the way I've used mail connection doctor.  It has problem connecting to the outgoing server, but then it does and says all is fine.  But I still cant send mail.  I go back to connecton doctor and do a "check again" and now it CANT connect.  Jeez this is just awful

I finally got my "Send" to work:

  • Can I sync Mac mail w/iphone and Yahoo mail?

I'm used to checking my Yahoo mail on my Mac using the mail program (not Mobile Me). Now that I've got an iPhone it checks it on Yahoo mail and uses Yahoo mail folders. I've got lots of stuff stored on my Mac in mail folders and still prefer to check my mail there. When I send a mailnote from my Mac it, obviously, doesn't show up in my sent mail in Yahoo. Is there a way to sync all of this? I really prefer the Mac mail interface than Yahoo's web browser interface. Also, the filters (a.k.a. rules) work way better in Mail.
Thoughts or am I missing something?
    Thanks.
    -Robin

    Robin,
iTunes will sync the email account settings to the iPhone, not the actual emails and folders.
When you setup the account on the iPhone, by tapping Add Account> Yahoo!> entering you account info, it is setup as a IMAP account.
Heres a thread discussing not being able to setup up a Yahoo! IMAP account on a Mac or PC: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1020969
You can contact Yahoo! support here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/
Also you can workaround the issue by setting up a MobileMe or Gmail IMAP account.

  • Safari and yahoo mail not getting along

Safari and Yahoo Mail don't seem to be getting along this past month

    Hi powerbook1701!
It is a shame...Yahoo has always been bad with Safari...I think most people here keep a copy of Firefox/Camino for cases like this when webdesigners don't make their pages compatible with Safari. It's not much of a problem anymore but there are still a few sites depending on where you surf...
Actually the reason I started using Mail is because the standard Yahoo mail wouldn't display custom fonts, etc. on Mac. At that time not even with Firefox for Windows. But I'm glad that I switched because I enjoy using Mail much more that Yahoo's webmail which by the way was never good at searching...
Oops this sounds like Yahoo bashing!!! It's not meant to be...just letting you know other people have the same issues you're experiencing...

  • TS1843 Not receiving apple mail.  Connection Doctor says not connected to server.  Yet receiving gmail and yahoo mail.

Not receiving apple mail.  Checked connection Doctor.  Not connected to server, yet receiving gmail and yahoo mail.

No, I have a Mac and my email connects via our pacbell account we've had for years.  However, something in the Preferences/Accounts is not correct I am guessing.  Also, it asks for the password and if I put it in and click save through general or viewing, it's NOT saving it and still not allowing me to get email. My husband tried reading about this through our AT&T acct and said to change the incoming server to imap.mail.yahoo.com and outgoing smtp.mail.yahoo;[email protected], but now I can't receive or send any email on my Mac. In advanced not sure if it should be Port of 465 or 900 something or other and SSL checked or not.  I called AT&T and they want to take over my machine by charging $15/mos for a year to fix this.  Ridiculous.
So, everytime prior to yesterday, when my husband messed around with it, I was getting a POP needs password box, typed in my password, but to no avail..Then it Keychain password popped up and assumed it was the same, but there's no way to change or modify it even using the new password my husband set up through AT&T.  I am at a complete loss.
I can access mail through yahoo mail and it takes me to AT&T Yahoo Mail, but no contacts are there so needless to say this is a pain.
I appreciate any assistance you can give me so I can get back on my email as I have for 4 years.
Thanks Hackintosh...I look forward to hearing from you....you can use the email above and it will come to me through my yahoo web page....Thanks again and let me know if you need any other information.  If you respond on here, I may not get the answer from you as I didn't know you responded until I came on discussions.  THanks

  • Safari and Yahoo Mail Beta

I had already reported this problem three times through Safari, but I had no answer and yahoo mail beta is already unreachable with Safari 2.0 (mac os x 10.4.8)
    Here the first message:
    "Why miss out?
To see all the new Yahoo! home page has to offer, please upgrade to a more recent browser.
    Supported browsers include:
Internet Explorer 7 optimized by Yahoo!
    Firefox 1.5
    Safari 2.0 (I have this!)
    Opera 8.5
Then I try to access, I insert my user id and pwd but instead of looking the webpage I get a message (from Safari):
to set up UTF 8 in browser's coding; I click ok and the message come back (looply). Then I block the loading of the page, I change the settings under the view menu, but again I have the same message:
    What can I do?
    thx for answering!

  • E51 Gmail and Yahoo mail box access

    Dear All
I was trying to configure the gmail and yahoo mail accounts in the new E51 which I have bought. I have correctly configured the mail setup with the correct username and password. But I am getting an error "Invalid Mail for exchange credentials. Check credential settings". The pop up is coming repeatedly on the phone even if am not using the same.
Please help me out for the same.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Joseph

    Hi Guys!
I'm sure by now your problems are solved. Nevertheless, let me simplify this for you. I have both my Gmail and my Yahoo mail setup on my E51 and they work beautifully. One thing you should be aware of is that while Gmail offers mobile & POP access free, you need to upgrade to a business account in yahoo to avail the same. That being said, here are the settings for each:
    For Gmail:
    Connection Settings > Incoming E-Mail
User name: Enter your complete Gmail e-mail address including '@gmail.com'
    Password: Enter your Password
    Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
Access Point in Use: Select the active data connection
    Mailbox Name: Whatever you like
    Mailbox Type: IMAP4
    Security (ports): SSL/TLS
    Port: Default
    Connection Settings > Outgoing E-Mail
My e-mail address: Enter your complete Gmail e-mail address including '@gmail.com'
User name: Again enter your complete Gmail e-mail address including '@gmail.com'
    Password: Enter your password
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
Access Point in Use: Select the active data connection
    Security (ports): StartTLS
    Port: 587
    User Settings:
My Name: Whatever name you'd like to appear in your sent emails
Send Message: Choose 'Immediately' if you would like your phone to connect to the internet and send the message everytime you send an e-mail. Otherwise choose 'during next connection'
Send copy to self: Choose yes if you would like a copy of all mails that you send using your mobile, to be sent to your inbox too.Otherwise choose No.
Include Signature: Your choice. If you choose yes, enter the signature text
    New E-Mail alerts: On
Reply to: If you would like people to reply to a different e-mail id then the current one, enter that.Else choose Off.
Delete E-mails From: Select Phone or Server. If you select phone, th emails get deleted only from the phone, although the header still remains till the next time you refresh. What this means is that mails deleted from you phone will continue to remain on your server and will be accessible the next time you access your mail using a PC.
    Retrieval Settings:
E-Mail to retrieve: No choice here. Gmail only allows you to retrieve headers first. If you feel a mail is important you can select it and download the entire message later.
Retrieval Amount: Set how many e-mails you would like downloaded
IMAP4 folder path: This is set to 'Unix path' by default. Let it be
Folder Subscriptions: No changes required here
Automatic Retrieval: Select E-mail retrieval and set it to 'Enabled'.
    Retrieval Days: All Days
    Retrieval Hours: All Hours
Retrieval Intervalet it to 5 mins if you would like e-mails to get downloaded to your phone almost as soon as they arrive (Like Push E-Mail). Else select a time interval as desired.
Yahoo: (Provided you are subscribed to premium business mail)
    Connection Settings > Incoming E-Mail
User name: Enter your yahoo user name only (without '@yahoo.com)
    Password: Enter your Password

    APOP secure login: Off
    Connection Settings > Outgoing E-Mail
My e-mail address: Enter your complete yahoo e-mail address including '@yahoo.com'
User name: Enter your yahoo user name only (without '@yahoo.com)
    Password: Enter your password

    Retrieval Settings:
E-Mail to retrieve: Select 'Headers' only to retrieve headers first. If you feel a mail is important you can select it and download the entire message later. Select 'Size Limit' to set a limit to the size of e-mails that can be downloaded. Select 'Msgs. & Attchs' if you want everything to be downloaded.
    Retrieval Amount: All
Automatic Retrieval: Select E-mail retrieval and set it to 'Enabled'.
    Retrieval Days: All Days
    Retrieval Hours: All Hours
Retrieval Interval: Select a time interval as desired.
With this done you should have no poblems accessing both, your yahoo mail and gmail on your E51 over a Wi-Fi connection or a data plan from your service provider.

  • TS4002 Icloud and yahoo mails

I have lost my icloud and yahoo mail accounts. I have followed instructions and all tabs are as they should in my settings

Some things you can try include:
Force close the Mail application (from the home screen, double-tap the home button, locate Mail in the list at the bottom, then swipe up on the image above the app icon to close it).
Reset your phone by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.
    Restore your phone.
Try adding your mail accounts again after each one.

  • Apple Mail and Yahoo - Mail shows as opened in Yahoo?

I have Gmail and Yahoo mail accounts.  When I open my Apple mail, all my Yahoo messages show as opened; Gmail does not.  Is there a configuration I can perform to correct this problem?  I'd like it to function like Gmail, Exchange or iCloud.  Suggestions?

    dddog,
Are you accessing the Yahoo email or the email on your computer as POP3?

  • Can I setup Mail app to access Yahoo mail via IMAP?

Can I setup Mail app to access Yahoo mail via IMAP? I think that my iPhone is doing this, but what about the Apple Mail app on my Mac? I don't like the fact that the Mac downloads the e-mail messages and removes them from the server, therefore making them inaccessible from Yahoo's online mail or my iPhone.
I'd like to get to work just like my Mobile Me e-mail... Any thoughts?

There is an option in the 'Advanced' section of the account setup to delete the messages from the server after a specified period rather than immediately on download; you could leave them for a week or whatever, then they will still be there when the iPhone accesses them.

  • Mail 3.x and Ipswitch Mail

I've had problems similar to others reported on this forum with Mail 3.x and Ipswitch mail. After upgrading my MacBook Pro from Tiger to Leopard (archive and install), Mail ceased displaying messages from any of my Ipswitch Mail IMAP folders, including my inbox. From what I've read, there is a known conflict between Apple Mail's use of the IDLE command and Ipswitch's implementation of that command. Lots of fingerpointing, but no fix from either side. But I wonder if that's the whole story.
I recently decided to do an "erase and install" reinstall of Leopard on my MBP. I was just looking to clear out the junk on my partition in preparation for a major reorganization of the music/pictures/movies on my hard drive. After this reinstall, I reopened Mail to see if it made a difference with my work email (which uses Ipswitch). Lo and behold, all the messages loaded and I was able to open and read all of the messages. I figured that one of the software updates from Apple fixed the conflict.
To make a long story short, it didn't last. I am not sure if I actually sent any messages from this setup. But a couple of days after I set up the IMAP account in Mail, when I tried to send a reply to a message, the account stopped working. The messages that had been downloaded still displayed, but I cannot send or receive any new messages--basically back to square one. Here is the error message that displays (the same as ones that I saw prior to my "erase and install" of Leopard):
"Some actions taken while the account "midyork.org" was offline could not be completed online.
"Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox "Sent" in "On My Mac" so that you can complete the actions while online."
"Additional Information: The connection to the server "mail.midyork.org" on port 143 timed out." Also seen: "Operation could not be completed (MFMessageErrorDomain error 1028.)"
The fact that it worked for a while, then didn't, makes me wonder if there is a preference file or setting that is getting "stuck," if you will: For example, in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced, the option Use IDLE command if supported by server" is checked, and cannot be changed. Is there a way to turn off IDLE support for an account using a terminal command?
Any advice on a way to bypass the conflict between Mail 3.x and Ipswitch Mail will be appreciated.

  • Nokia 5800 - 'Mail for Exchange' and 'Nokia mail'....

Ok may be a silly question but while looking through my 'installed apps' on my 5800, since i was thinking of 'clearing some stuff out' to make that little bit more memory on the phone (Currently I'm ~ 3/4 full)
I noticed that although MOST of them (games etc) are already on my memory card there's a few stuck on the phone.
Many I guess can't be removed (such as 'Symbian OS' stuff, 'OVI Maps' or other 'OVI Store' stuff) but what about programs that seem to be 'duplicates' (i.e. seem to do the same thing) ??
Why should I have 2 'Map' programs or 2 'Email' program etc ??
In particular - why should I need to have 'Mail for Exchange' AND 'Nokia Mail' installed at the same time. Both are ~ 1Mb each and both seem to be related to 'Getting Emails onto the phone'
Can't I just stick to one one them - say 'Nokia Mail' & remove 'Mail for Exchange' ??
Doinf so will only free up 1Mb of phone memory, but it'll help - or does one program rely on the other ??
    Thanks in advance
P.S. I've just noticed there's a couple of other programs 'In Phone memory' that seem suspicious.
One is called 'Chinese Lion (164Kb Supplier: QTEL) and the other is called 'Diamonds' (102kb Supplier: WANGP) - anyone know what these are ??
    Motto: Illegitimis non carborundum

Most users don't need both, but each has a different purpose which is why both are offered. Nokia Messaging is Nokia's in-house push mail service available for all consumers (currently it requires a certain type of operator subscription, but I understand that is about to change so that it is open to all). Mail for Exchange is primarily for business users whose company uses Microsoft Exchange for corporate mail.
Likewise, you don't need to Maps apps - GPS-equipped phones always have Nokia/Ovi Maps preisntalled, unless youe phone is an operator-variant from a network which has its own GPS service or you bought the phone second-hand from somebody else, I don't see why it would have another similar application.
For general memory management, this post which I made in reply to another user with memory issues may help:
