Mac Mail 6.0 (Mark As Read)

There is one thing stopping me from fully utlising iCloud, Mac Mail etc and that is being able to set a delay before the message is marked as read.
There was the plugin TruePreview which worked on Mail 5 but not on 6.
Are there any other ways to make this happen? With this I could have All Work and Personal accounts all together and up with iCloud.
Any suggestions / solutions?

I completely agree with you and have the exact same issue. True Preview does not work on Mail 6.
I found another app called MailActOn that has the same feature (not marking as read until I tell it to).
It also has some other great features... esp if you're into using quick key commands to manage your email.
The app is not free like True Preview, but its only $25.

  • How do I set Mail to not mark as read every time I click on a message?

I have an IMAP account which we share in the company between several of us. Basically, if there's a case that's unread its fair game. Thing is that every single time I go over a message with mail it's marked as read and sometimes I forget to mark it as unread again. On Thunderbird and other programs I can have a time limit before it is set to read. Is there such a thing with Mail or with any of its plugins?
    Thanks.

Turn the Wireless receiver off on your laptop, then your laptop won't connect to your modem. Or, use the reset button on the back of the modem to reset your modem.

  • 2 mail accounts, emails marked a read when not

Hi, I have latest mac os and using mac mail. I have 2 accounts and I have similar mail sent to both accounts. When I read an email in one account it registers as read in the other as well. I don't want this to happen. How do I set mail, I can't find any setting to turn on or off.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Mail on iOS 5 and iCloud sync (Mails are not marked as read when I read them on my MacBook)

    Hello everyone,
I am an iOS 5 and OS X Lion User in Germany and I have following question concering Mail on iOS 5 and iCloud.
I have a MacBook Pro 13" with OS X Lion 10.7.2 and an iPhone 4 with iOS 5. I also have an iCloud account (I switched yesterday from MobileMe).
When I receive a new e-Mail it will be pushed immediately to my iPhone an my MacBook. When I open this new e-mail on my iPhone, it is immediately marked as read on my MacBook. But when I open the new e-mail on my MacBook, it is not marked as read on my iPhone. I have manually to sync mail first.
Does anyone know if this feature is not supported on iCloud and iOS 5? Thanks for your help!

Add me to the list of people having this problem.
I have 1 Gmail account a 2 Google Apps accounts and this happens with all 3. If I read a messaging in Mail.app, it DOES get marked read on my iPod Touch, though.
If I read the emails on my iPod Touch, BlackBerry, or Gmail web interface, the read status does not get synced back to Mail.app unless I close and re-open it.
Not sure if this is an Apple issue or a Gmail issue, but it's VERY annoying and somewhat defeats the purpose of using IMAP.

  • Really Apple? Mails still automatically marked as read??

    Dear Apple,
you have still not managed to include an option into your mail app to prevent mails from being automatically marked as "read"? I actually would have loved to switch to your app for a long time, but this point just leaves it unusable.
Does no one else think this is crucial?

You want to have them marked until you are done working on them?
Make a rule that puts a flag on every received message. When you are done with it remove the flag.

  • Using Mail - items being marked as read before I have read them

    Hi
How do I stop Mail marking an item as read as soon as I move the cursor away from it in the ail listing? Just because it is shown in the preview pane does not mean I have read it yet.
In Outlook I can change a setting so that items are not marked a s read until I double click them to open them fully and read them - how do I do the same in Mail?
Also if I delete an item from the list, the cursor moves UP to the previous item (I have ordered the list so that newest mail is at the top. I then start reading from the top down..). Can I change a setting somewhere to move the cursor the other way after processing an email?
    Many thanks

The only way to have it not be marked as read is to turn the preview pane off (then you double-click each message to open/read it).

  • Mac Mail with question mark

Help - just tried to open Macmail on my old IMac. Suddenly a question mark appears covering the MacMail icon in the dock. It won't open at all. Any thoughts? Many thanks

    Hello DM Edmonds,
    From Mac Help:
The Dock contains a question mark icon
If you delete an application or document that has an icon in the Dock, the Dock >icon changes to a question mark.
To remove the question mark icon:
    Drag it from the Dock.
To add a new item to the Dock, locate the item and drag its icon to the Dock.
It is my understanding that if the Dock icon of a particular application changes to a question mark it means that the application has been deleted or is damaged.
I assume you will have to reinstall Mail.app.
First try to open the Application from it's icon in your Applications folder. Does it open? Is the original application missing from the Applications folder?

  • Gmail forwarding to Mac Mail

I just set up my account to have my gmail account in my Mac Mail.
I am new to macs altogether so my question might have an obvious answer. When I read new mail through Mac Mail, it is marked as read. However, when I then log into my gmail account directly online, the same email that had been read on Mac Mail is marked as new on gmail.
Is there a way to have an email be marked as read in gmail if it has been read in Mac Mail, and vice a versa? Similarly, if I delete an email in Mac Mail, is there a way to have the email be deleted from my gmail?

Yes - you need to set your GMail up as IMAP, not POP. Make sure that you have IMAP enabled in your GMail's webmail (the same place where you enabled POP), and then delete and re-create your account as an IMAP version. You'll need to use the GMail server settings - eg "imap.gmail.com" for both incoming and outgoing servers. Check these articles carefully:

  • Gmail: Mails sent to myself are marked as READ when using IMAP -how to fix?

I just started using IMAP with my Gmail account and Apple Mail. But when I send an e-mail to myself (from my imap account to my imap account), the e-mail will of course go to my inbox but it will be marked as read.
I don't have the option to "mark as unread" in either Apple Mail rules or Gmail filters, they both only have "mark as read".
If I do it using Gmail webmail, then the e-mail is not marked as read, so I don't know if it's something Apple Mail is doing to my email? If I right-click it and "mark as unread", the message will be marked as unread both in my "inbox" and in my "sent mail". But I don't want to right click all my "to do mails" to make sure I see them.
(I'm aware this is not the best workflow, but I like it..)

Alas, I'm still having problems with Gmail. Now what happens is that I'm getting the "caution" triangle next to the account which indicates a problem. The error message when I click on that triangle is: "Unable to Connect There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account “Gmail” or try again. The server error encountered was: The connection to the server “imap.gmail.com” on port 587 timed out."
Also, something else is strange. When I look in the account settings window, my password is not there. It's blank. So I enter it. A few minutes later, when I check, my password is again no longer there.
Regarding your suggestions to move the mail folder, I really don't want to do that because I have about 20 mailboxes full of important saved messages. I can't afford to lose those. Surely there must be some other way?
Leopard is the worst OS upgrade in Apple's history, IMO. It's caused more problems for me than I could have imagined.

  • Mail being marked as read automatically

I have iOS 6.1.4 on iPhone 5 and multiple mail accounts.
Gmail or Exchange - mail is being marked as read automatically even if I have not touched the mail. Not sure why this is happening but it is definitely an issue. I also beta tested version 7 beta 2 ios and it does the same thing.
with 5 minutes of the mail running on the iphone and no user intervention mail files are marked as read. The read is then synced to Gmail and Exchange accounts so you miss mail as all are marked as read.

I have stumbled across and answer to a similar question posted in 2012.

    It is not possible apparently.

  • Messages automatically marked as read in yahoo and unread in Mail

I typically use yahoo.com to view/read my yahoo mail, but I would like the option of viewing in Mail as well. However, when I launch my Mail account, all messages remain "unread" (whether I've read them or not in yahoo.com). And when I go to my yahoo.com account after opening Mail, all messages (whether I've read them or not in Mail) are automatically marked as "read". This is extremely frustrating as I would like both Mail and yahoo.com to reflect read and unread emails appropriately.
I do not have this problem when I use the Mail app on my iPhone.
    Please help! Thank you!

UPDATE: In addition to all mail being marked as "unread" in yahoo.com, most messages older than a few days old are also deleted. They still appear in Mail, but I need to read them in yahoo.com as well. In addition, Mail does not contain the folders from yahoo.com, so all messages appear in Mail as one big "unread" mess in my inbox. Again, these issues are not a problem with the iPhone app. Thank you!

  • Mac mail not reading emails

    Hi All,
So my mac mail on mavericks isn't reading any of my emails when highlighted... sometimes it closes and creates and error... any idea how to fix this??

    You are welcome.
    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • How to restore old emails from Outlook to Mac Mail?

I have recently configured my email account (server type POP3) on Mail. It has retrieved my emails from last few weeks. However the older emails are missing. I was using Outlook and Mozilla thunderbird as email clients on Windows computer. I do have a backup of the data from windows computer on external hard drive. Can someone explain my how to I restore those old emails to the newly configued mac Mail account?

I had about 7500 emails, and they converted OK...took awhile because each one has to be converted, but it finished fine.
Although you can export from multiple Outlook folders, Mac Mail doesn't have a very slick importer for multiple mailboxes.  So, you'll need to export the mailboxes from Outlook (which will create 25 different files, each full of email), and then import each of those into Mail. In my case, Mail created a separate folder for each exported file, but the folders all descended from the root folder (not nested), so I had to create my own nesting.  This is more a limitation of the mbox standard that Apple uses than it is a limitation of Mac Mail itself, from what I read.
    Happy new year!
