Mac Mail- all incoming photos are corrupted- but only on my MBP, not my iphone. Any ideas?

My Mac Mail is driving me bonkers!
For the last week or so, it's been extremely erratic on my Macbook Pro (seems fine on my phone). First it dumped all of my sent messages- then it gradually loaded them all up again, over the course of a couple of hours.
Then it dumped three year's worth of messages from my inbox, slowly adding them back in again over the next couple of days (this still seems to be happening in some form or other in that my mail activity frequently tells me that 800 emails (for example) are downloading.
Most irritating of all, I can't receive any images without them being corrupted. They're fine on my phone- this is definitely a MBP only problem.
I've not changed anything recently- and my phone is still running iOS 6.1.3
Any ideas?
I switched around 9 years ago. Second Mac, first problem I've ever really had in all that time. It dumped another 30,000 emails this morning- including ones that I need to work with right now. Still receiving garbled images.
Went to schedule a call with Apple- see if they can shed any light on it. Going to get back to me in 6 days. Brilliant.
It's just not good enough. This isn't what I'm paying for.

Where did you keep your iPhoto Library? In your Pictures folder, as is the default? Or on an external drive?
Look in the folder with your iPhoto Library.
You should be seeing two libraries, if you already let Photos upgrade the iPhoto Library:
Your iPhoto Library, now called .migratedphotolibrary
and the new Photos library:
are the libraries there? and how large are they? -
I have 8 apps that, when I tried to update, are now stuck on "installing" in the box that says update. every time I try to update another app, it gets frozen like this as well. I was able to quit all apps, but these, as they do not respond. Any ideas?
Reset your iPad by holding the home and on/off buttons together for 6 or 7 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Then update your apps one at a time. Do not start the next app until the current one downloads and finishes installing.

last night I updated both mine and my husband's iphone 4 and his still has all his photos on it...but mine does not. Any help would be appreciated.
Same situation for me also today. synced my phone again on itunes where it gave me an option to sync picture folders which i did and this worked. sorry i cannot be more specific about where i saw this on itune page but this was after it completed the sync process. I am new to iphones so i paniched when my wife "lost all her pictures"

My 2006 - 2008 Mac Pro running Lion will not play HDV 1080i60 footage in FCP 7. When I open the sequence settings, all HDV codecs are hdv1, hdv2, hdv3, and so forth. However, when I open the project on my other Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and FCP 6, the footage works fine as it does on my newer Imac running Mavericks and FCP 7. I have tried a Quicktime update on the Mac Pro that the footage doesn't work on but it says that I already have the newest version of Quicktime installed. I have also tried reinstalling the Final Cut Pro Studio twice, still no fix. I'm completely out of solutions and need to be able to edit HDV footage on this machine. Any help would be great. Thanks.
there was a recent software update that seemed to screw HDV up. Do some searching here over the last month or 2 and you'll find a bunch of posts and some possible solutions.
Worst case scenario, do as Shane suggests. But might I suggest you take a look at the user tips section of the forum. there are some great tips on how to prevent these sorts of problems by cloning your startup drive, etc. -
When I start iphoto08 all the photos are black.I only can see the comment to the Picture.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
from some reason (i'm not sure why..) my whole iphoto library got deleted. I restored the whole library from my backup. Now all the photos are blank but steel have the photo info. (date, res., size etc.) Do you know what's the prob.? why can't i see my pics.

The original image files are missing form your iPhoto library or iPhoto cannot find them, because the link to the originals has been broken. The image info is stored in the internal libraries, independent of the original files. That is, why you are still seeing them.
I restored the whole library from my backup.
Try restoring from an older backup, from before you first noticed the problem.
How large is the library, that you restored? Is the file size large enough to hold all your photos, or has the size been reduced? If the library is still large, the photos may still be inside, even if iPhoto cannot find them.

What happened, before your iPhoto library got deleted? Which applications have you been running, or which new software have installed or upgraded? Have you moved the library to a different disk or tried to use it from different user account or access it over the network? -

I'm using the latest version of mail but not very good in dealing with computer problems. My email supplier is Bt Internet.
Can anyone helpI have seen something similar once. A message on the mail server was corrupted and the download would never complete, but would always start the next time I launched Mail. It was the oldest message, so Mail always started with it, blocking all other mail. Deleting the file on the server was the solution. Don't know if that fits your situation. Good luck. BTW, I called my ISP's tech support and they watched the server's actions and could see that the file was not actually transferring. Give yours a call.

I run 3 email accounts on Mac Mail, all 3 disappeared after doing the latest OS X update. I have tried adding the accounts back but no mail appears. Help!
The mailbox list is divided into categories with headings in caps, such as ON MY MAC. When you hover the cursor over one of those headings (except for MAILBOXES), you should see the word Show or Hide on the right. Click Show. The MAILBOXES category can't be hidden.
In each category, the mailboxes are arranged in groups, such as Inbox. To the left of each group is a small disclosure triangle. If the triangle points to the right, click it so that it points down. -

MIf you have emmptied the iPhoto trash then you're going to need a file recovery application like File Salvage

If your phone (plus syncing) is the only place you keep your pictures you are asking for trouble, theft or not. Back up onto an external hard disk which is only mounted when you need it, then nothing external can erase them. Then make use of Apple's facilities for protecting your phone:

I have tried wating 15min for it to be pick up.....I have shut down my computer and re booted with no luck. I am devasted as all my photos are on it. Any suggestions anyone????
Was this your first TIme Machine backup or were you running an update to Time Machine? If the latter then most of your data is probably recoverable from that disk. If not proceed with this emergency recovery. I would not erase the Time Machine backup you already have in case there is data on it you can recover, even if it did not complete. (I don’t know if Time Machine will wok on a partial backup.)
Before proceeding further you should try to secure your data. You are close to losing it (or have lost it) and the instructions below will try to make a copy of it without having to boot the operating system. You will need an external drive which you will erase as part of this procedure.
Boot the recovery partition:
• Press the power button and as you hear the bong,
hold down the Command and R keys.
Once booted, click on Disk Utility.
Format (and erase) the destination recovery disk:
Plug in the drive you are about to erase.
Select the volume that is NOT your system disk.
Click on Partition.
Pull down under Partition Layout to 1 Partition.
Click on Options…
Select GUID Partition Table.
Name: Emergency Backup
Format: Select Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Click Apply.
Click Partition.
Make a copy of your system disk on the recovery disk:
Drag and drop the named system disk to Source (often called Macintosh HD):
Drag an drop Emergency Backup to Destination:
(Do not reverse these.)
Click Restore (the lower Restore button).
Be patient for it to do a full backup of your system disk.
Save the ailing disk/SSD. You might be able to recover data on it buy placing it in an external enclosure. Once the disk is in an external enclosure, if the disk will not spin give it a gentle tap. I have revived several disks that way. If it still won’t spin then bother with the recovery software below.
If it will spin try using DiskWarrior or uFlysoft data recovery.

thx for help !!!!!Which photos? If the missing photos were synced to the iPod then you have to get them from where you got them the first time. Synced photos are not in the backup that iTunes makes.

What a mess, 20,000 photos. How can I restore my folders?

I needed memory to upgrade so I exported all of my iphoto to an external hard drive. I then deleted and emptied the trash. The photos are fine but the videos are blank. Is there any way to recover the videos? Any software recovery programs apple supported?
no official way but if you open the Apple TV and put the hd in the external case it should mount and give you access to the data on it
