Mac Mail DUPLICATES removal?

i am trying to google this and it appears that the scripts that someone posted don't work in Mountain Lion or Lion?
does anyone know how to do this other than setting up all my accounts in Thunderbird and having Thunderbird do this?
TIA

  • Mac Mail duplicates and spinning balls

I suddenly started getting email duplicates this morning and now my mac (iCloud) mail seems to be stuck spinning forever, no new mail coming in. 10.6.8 -  Mac Mail version 4.6, Mac Pro, working yesterday. I have it set up for IMAP. My mail is working fine on my phone and on my computer at home.
    Other mail accounts are working.
If I click the caution triangles I get this meassage:
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “mail.me.com” on port 993 timed out.
Is today the official cutoff day for Mobile Me or something? I thought that had passed a long time ago.
    Thankyou!
    Barb

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
    Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services > Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

  • Mac mail duplicates created in trash

Every email I send with Mac Mail is moved to the Sent mail folder, of course, but each sent email also is being duplicated repeatedly in the Trash mail folder, as well. I'm not talking about the Draft folder. I mean the Trash folder. Sometimes as much as ten copies of a sent email will appear in the  Trash Folder.
Can anyone explain why this is happening?  Can anyone give me a fix?
    Thanks!

  • Applescript Mail duplicate removal

    Hi all,
I have a problem with duplicate email messages and thought I'd take a stab at an applescript solution.  Tried using a few sorting/searching type strategies but the size of the mailboxes just made it too slow and unwieldy.  But I noticed that in the viewer, duplicate messages are not visible.  (Seems like if Mail has the ability to notice duplicates it should just as easily make it an option to flush them, but maybe I'm naive.)  Anyway, thought I would use that knowledge to remove duplicates myself with the script below.  It works so far, but my concern is whether there are *any* reason a message would not be visible yet not a duplicate.  Does anyone know?  This is lightning fast compared to my other attempts and so far seems to only find duplicates.
    tell application "Mail"
set theViewer to front message viewer
set msglist to visible messages of theViewer
              set IDlist to {}
              repeat with msg in msglist
copy (id of msg) to end of IDlist
              end repeat
set allmsgs to messages of theViewer
              set dupcount to 0
              repeat with msg in allmsgs
if (id of msg) is not in IDlist then
move msg to mailbox "Deleteme" of account "myaccount"
set dupcount to dupcount + 1
                            end if
              end repeat
say "Moved " & (dupcount as rich text) & " messages to mailbox deleteme"
    end tell

Did you have any luck with this script as I have also been looking for something to do this, at the moment I'm having to use Entourage to perform the function.

  • Mac Mail Always Removing Messages from Hotmail

I have a Hotmail account that dates back to 2005 and I have recently bought a new Macbook Pro and Mountain Lion. It took about 2 days to download all my messages into Mail.
The problem is that my Mail started to get delayed coming through and then stop occasionaly with a Port 995 error.
If I check the activity window I can see the potential problem but I don't know how to solve it:
The activity window says 'Fetching new mail' and underneath this it says 'Removing message x of 43,583' (x being the message number being removed)
I use my laptop pretty much all day, but somewhere along the line the process restarts and so it never finishes to remove the messages and this is obviously holding up the server.
Would anyone have a solution to this?
    Thanks

Having monitored the situation, it appears to be a software issue. There is in infinite loop with removing messages from the server. I found it completes the removal and then begins again holding up the server.
Every time it completes the 'removal' my new messages are downloaded. After this the 'removal process' beings again in the activity window!

  • Mac Mail - Cannot Remove Attachments

I have an intermittent problem in that I often cannot remove attachments from mail messages.  It is very inconsistent, and I cannot find a pattern.
Oftentimes, when I send an email with a large attachment, I want to keep the email text, but don't need/want the attachment (as I have it on my hard drive anyhow).  But when I select the message, Remove Attachments on the Messages menu is greyed out.  Again, it is intermittent as I sometimes can delete the attachments.
I am using Maverics and the latest software updates.  My mail server is Exchange.
    Any ideas how to solve?
    Thanks.

I have the same problem (and same configuration).  Either of the following works for me:
    1) rebuild the mailbox - sometimes I have to rebuild multiple times but eventually it works
    2) find another message where the system will let you remove attachments - select both that message and the problematic message and remove attachments - it seems that if the system is able to remove messages from at least one of all the selecte messages, it will remove the attachments from all of the selected messages
I'm getting a new laptop soon and have decided that I will give up on Apple Mail and switch back to Outlook with the new computer.  I'd had more problems with Apple Mail than I have ever had with Outlook.  (cannot remove attachments - entire message is corrupted when an attachment is removed - messages are not visible in the mailbox until after the mailbox is rebuilt - intentionally deleted messages reappear after the mailbox is rebuilt - custom stationary only produces the subject line and not the content of the message when applied to a new message - multiple copies of a single draft e-mails which cannot be deleted until I rebuild the mailbox to clean up the clutter)
I'm now rebuilding my mailbox at least 10 times a week just to simply manage the mail, and I'm just an average user - not trying to do anything special.  It's not worth the trouble.

  • Mac Mail won't remove copy from server

My mail remains in the ISP's Inbox despite the proper setting in my Mac Mail program to remove copy from server immediately after downloading. Even after I close my mail program, the old mail will not be deleted. I must go to my Inbox via the Net and delete the mail with a global tag/delete.
This problem began 5 to 7 months ago. Before that the auto deletion worked fine, and it worked fine in older versions of OS X. Is this an ISP compatibility? A bug in the current Mac Mail release? A bug in Tiger?
I asked my ISP and his first reply said this is one of many bugs in Mac Mail and I should switch to Thunderbird. I'll look at that but I prefer to use Apple software.
After 4 years I know how seldom Apple debugs Mail and Safari. Does anyone know if an update of Mail is on Apple's schedule?
iMac and others   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Try changing the setting to After one day or When moved
from Inbox (and leave it at that), to see whether it’s just the Right > away setting that doesn’t work or that Mail fails to remove messages > from that server no matter what the settings.
    I'll do that.
BTW, have you actually tried using another mail
    client such as Thunderbird
to check whether the same happens there as well?
My ISP, who hosts a university and has a higher percentage of Mac users than most, recommended Thunderbird so I presume it does well here at Ntelos.net

  • I remove the flagged status and the email disappears from STARRED in mac mail.  I want to keep it there, and I dont use "flags"

I have about 10 important files in my starred folder in Gmail - accessed using my browser.
using mac mail, the starred folder only contains mail deems "important" and "flags"
Not the important files I DEEMED as STARRED.
Why doe removing the flag delete it form starred folder in mac mail?
How do I get my starred folder in mac mail to contain those same 10 emails as Gmail website view?
and how do I get mac mail to stop flagging stuff it thinks is important?
(it doesnt know... no one knows. Only I know...heh)
    Thanks so much

    Anne,
AOL by policy deletes messages in the Inbox (and also the Sent) after 27 days. To save longer, the messages must be moved to the folder named Saved that AOL sets up on the server. There is nothing in Mail to cause this, but AOL's own action.
Is this perhaps what she is having issue with?

  • How to remove the mac mail Ying/yang icon on letters when printing

Whenever I print emails from Mac Mail 5.2  (OS 10.7.4) there is a symbol at the top right (I assume it is a Ying/Yang symbol).
How to I remove it?  It's wasting ink.

I don't know of a way to remove it, but it should be possible to replace it with an all-white image.  You'd first need to make, or acquire, such an image, then follow teh instructions in the Mac's help (I'm using 10.7.4):
    "Create a custom picture
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Users & Groups.Open Users & Groups preferences
Select your account, click the account picture, and then click Edit Picture.
    Do one of the following:
To use an image file, click Choose, select the file, and then click Open.
To take a picture with your computer’s built-in camera, click the camera button. After a countdown of three seconds, the camera takes your picture.
Drag the slider to change the size of the picture, and drag the picture to change which part of the image appears.
To save the picture, click Set."
    Good luck

  • Mac Mail to Gmail truncates attachments names and removes exstenstions

I have a user that has mac Mail 2.1.1 and is on OS X 10.4.9. Sometimes when he sends mails to his colleagues, the attachments are truncated and the extensions are removed. For Example:
In Mail, he attaches a file called "Heid Survey.doc". Mail sends the file and the Sent mail looks ok. On a windows machine, using firefox and gmail.com, another person checks the email and gets an attachment named "heid". It does not recognize it as a word file. If the attachment is downloaded and the .doc added to it, it will open. If the same recipient checks the mail message in Mac Mail, the email and attachment come through fine.
I have tried this using both "Send Windows Friendly attachments" and with out it.
This does not always happen he reports, but I was able to recreate it with my gmail account and his laptop consistently. My Mac Mail shows the attachments fine as well.
I also tried to zip the file before sending it to gmail, and gmail recognized that it was a zip file, but when I tried to save it to the desktop on windows, it only saved the truncated version after gmail un-zipped it.
I do not know if this is a Mac Mail or a Gmail issue. I am not sure what is happening to these messages. Can any shed some light or give me some troubleshooting tips? Anything that I can try would be great. Thanks!

It has nothing to do with the contains. I believe it's a bug, and if you search translators lists like Systran's, you will discover this issue is spreading virically. Do not know what happens. What is known about this by embattled Mac users who now have to stop using Mail app: the phenomena begins out of the blue, one day works, one do not, it affects every file type (seems to be a problem with the name only, nothing to do with ASCII issues) and also, activating the "windows friendly" part does nothing. My case is really funny because I have one mac account with several mail accounts included, and it began with the main one (the others sent files ok) and now every account is affected. My boss is crazy with this. After a certain amount of time in the gmail account, the names appear fully sometimes, but obviously you can't tell a client, "sorry, you have to wait one day to check your mail, because I'm using Mac and it looks great, but it can't send attchments". Google says it's Apple's error, and Apple do not answer.

  • Duplicate Emails in Mac Mail with two IMAP Accounts

I have all my email accounts running through Mac Mail (v 4.5).
Recently I added a work IMAP account in addition to my Gmail and another personal account. Since I did so, every time an email comes to the work account, a duplicate gets sent to my Gmail. No idea why, and it didn't start until I brought everything into Mac Mail.
I've tried re-adding the work account as a POP (just as an experiment) and the same thing happened. And again when I brought the work account back a third time as an IMAP.
Any assistance would be a big help.
    Thanks.

I'm having similar difficulties.  Mac Mail has been seriously disrupted with upgrading to Mavericks.

  • Removing Autocomplete of email list in Mac mail

I am having a problem with Mac Mail autocomplete.   In my address book, I have an entry that is a list of many Email addresses.   When I type that name in Mac Mail, it now substitutes an OLD list, not the current one in my Address book.  I tried closing both the address book and mail programs and re-opening them, but it does not change the problem.   I tried removed the group name from the Previous Recipients list, and that does not fix the problem either.  I also removed the list name from my address book and that also did not fix the problem.

  • I need to change the hyperlink in my mac mail signature.  I go to remove it and edit and the old one is still there despite copying in a new one.  Help!

I had a difficult time several months ago personalizing my mac mail signature, now I need to change a hyperlink and it keeps putting in the old one even when I delete it and copy in a new one.  Don't know what to do...

    Thank you!!

  • Mac Mail creates duplicate messages in GMAIL bin and various other locations...

This has been quite frustrating finding 20 copies or half written copies of my mail as mac mail saves it as a draft then moves it to the bin.
When i perform a search for something im greeted with 20 half written copies of an email?
Anyone know why this is happening?

I assume your Gmail account is set up as IMAP.
In Mail, go to Preferences, Accounts tab, select the Gmail account. In the right pane, select Mailbox Behaviors, and uncheck "Store draft messages on the server".
Draft(s) will the only be saved on your Mac and more "safely" deleted when the mail is sent. If stored on the server, a slow or shaky Internet connection can prevent from it happening.

  • PDF Attachments Removed from Mac Mail, show up in .Mac webmail

I have two clients that receive autogenerated PDFs from our ColdFusion server to their .Mac mail account. They had no problems receiving these attachment PDFs with Tiger, this problem is new with the Leopard 10.5+ operating system.
These e-mails have a little bit of text, a logo inline and a PDF attachment. In .Mac Webmail I see the image, the PDF attachment and all is well and good, strangely enough.
In the Mac Mail (v3.1) I see the text, the image and NO PDF attachment (it only says there is ONE attachment (the inline JPG), when in fact there are TWO. It seems that the PDF is being completely stripped from the message when received from .Mac's server. If I send the user a PDF from my MS Outlook, or any other e-mail client, it's received fine.
Anyone have a similar issue, and have you found a fix? Or any ideas where I can troubleshoot from here?
    I'm stumped.

The thread here discusses the same issue, and the Command Y hack worked for me. There's got to be a better way.
