Mac Mail Importing Question

First, I could not find a better place for this topic as it is not a covered application on the forum, so I thought I would start here.
I set up one of my email accounts using Mac Mail.  I then imported the mail from Thunderbird over, but it will not load into the email account.  It shows as a separate folder under "on my mac"  I would like my sent emails from Thunderbird to be in the new Mac Mail email account.  I have tried dragging the "sent" email folder to the new Mac Mail acount, but it will not do it. I have tried several importing options, but to no avail.
Below is a screen shot of the what I am talking about and trying to accomplish.  I would like the "send" folder next to the red arrow to be move the folder where the green arrow is (green arrow is a little off, should point to "sent" folder.  How do I do this???  Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Adam,
Thank you for the suggestion and quick response, I did try that multiple times and just couldn't get them to move.  After walking away from the issue for a couple of hours, I did figure out the answer.  Perhaps it's a Lion issue, who knows.
What I did was click the folder for the imported "sent" mail folder, clicked Edit, Select All and then clicked on the "sent" folder under the new email account and clicked Edit again and then Paste and miraculously they all moved over.
Thanks again!

  • Mac mail import from excel email list

Using leopard on new imac. Could someone please give me some advice for importing to mac mail. I purchased 2000 email leads which was emailed to me in excel format. I can open in numbers fine and looks great. My problem is I need to import these leads to mac mailß, with email, name, address, phone, etc. and haven't found a way to do this. Can anyone help. Thanks in advance. Gary

Try importing them into the address book, this is where mail gets it's email addresses from. There is an option to import a text file. Just back up the address book before you import them since this could create a problem since it's dependent on file headers. i've never tried this before so I'm going out on a whim but the help files in the address book says that it supports importing of csv and tab deliminated files. I would not use the text file if it's been saved from numbers. Use the exact file that was sent to you by the company you purchased the contacts from. Good luck!

  • Mac mail Imports

How can I import emails and mail boxes from Ms outlook 2011 for mac in Mac mail?
I have around 5000 emails that are important and needed to be transferred immediately.
The system specifications are given and I hope to receive the solution asap.
    Thank you.

You can use an intermediary IMAP server, or simply create corresponding folders in Finder and drag and drop the messages from within Outlook to that folder. Then you can import to Mail from those folders/files.
Or you can simply look for third party tools for better and fast results, here is one recommended by apple store: https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/olm-converter-pro/id522796199?mt=12

When importing mail from mac mail 3.2 into mac mail 1.3.11 I get an empty file
Also when I move the 3.2 mail folder into the 1.3 mailfolder, the folder shows in mail, but not the messages.
    Anybody knows the answer??

  • Mac Mail collaboration question

Hi, myself and a colleague have both step Mac Mail to receive emails from a business email address (IMAP). Everything's working fine and emails appear in both our inboxes as expected. I'm very organised and like to keep my inbox as clean as possible so tend to frequently drag mail from my inbox to folders on my iCloud account to keep things tidy. The problem is that that email then disappears from my colleague's inbox on their machine.
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem hoping that there might be some kind of archival process whereby all emails could be put in a folder that we both had access to so that it didn't matter that emails disappeared from my colleague's inbox as the folder would contain a complete history of all mail sent and received from that account (I hope that makes sense).
    Any bright ideas out there???

Thanks Eric that might work but I was hoping for something a little more 'elegant' rather than having to manually export mail every time a message arrives in the inbox.
I setup a new iCloud account thinking that i could share the password and then I could just drag messages into iCloud folders as I do at the moment with my personal iCloud account but that doesn't seem to work as it just gives me a new entry in the Mailboxes section of Mail. Is it possible to have multiple iCloud accounts displayed underneath my mailboxes???
    Thanks

  • Mac Mail navigation question

Is there a button you can add to the toolbar of open mail messages in Mac Mail to allow you to open the next or previous email in the current folder?  If not, is there a swipe on the track pad that will perform that function?

  • Mac Mail with question mark

Help - just tried to open Macmail on my old IMac. Suddenly a question mark appears covering the MacMail icon in the dock. It won't open at all. Any thoughts? Many thanks

    Hello DM Edmonds,
    From Mac Help:
The Dock contains a question mark icon
If you delete an application or document that has an icon in the Dock, the Dock >icon changes to a question mark.
To remove the question mark icon:
    Drag it from the Dock.
To add a new item to the Dock, locate the item and drag its icon to the Dock.
It is my understanding that if the Dock icon of a particular application changes to a question mark it means that the application has been deleted or is damaged.
I assume you will have to reinstall Mail.app.
First try to open the Application from it's icon in your Applications folder. Does it open? Is the original application missing from the Applications folder?

  • Mail, import question

Now that Entourage is not being made anymore I'm starting to explore options.
How much is mail like Entourage? (I'm on 2004)
Will I get all my folders and contacts on an import?
Can I test this out? If I do an import, it will leave my Entourage folders etc alone correct?

How much is mail like Entourage? (I'm on 2004)
No idea, as I don't use Entourage... however, this is not a very productive question. The real question you should be asking is "Will Mail meet my needs?" And we can't answer that without more information, as we don't know what your needs are. Don't be afraid to learn a new interface or new ways of doing things if Mail will do what you need to be done. I've seen people make some very bad software choices simply because one program was more similar to something they were familiar with than the competition.
Will I get all my folders and contacts on an import?
Mail can certainly import Entourage mailboxes... I'm not sure about importing Entourage contacts into Address Book, though.
Can I test this out? If I do an import, it will leave my Entourage folders etc alone correct?
Importing mailboxes should be easy... if it doesn't work well, just delete the new mailbox in Mail. This should not make any changes to the Entourage mailboxes themselves.

  • Mac Mail Problem/Question

I'm having trouble with opening links via e-mail in my Mail application. When I open an e-mail and try to click on a link my web browser pops up and nothing happens. I've tested this with Safari, Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Mozilla is my current browser and the one I use exclusively...unfortunately it is also the only one of the three that will not open links from my e-mail. When I switch to Safari/Chrome as my default browser the links open fine. My question, is there a way to change which browser Mail uses without changing my default browser? Or is there a way to get Firefox working with my Mail application? I would like to keep using Firefox but it is a pain in the behind to have to copy and paste the link every single time.
    Thanks

Hi M, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, have you updated to the latest FF? If not, try that first.
You may want to play around with prefs in Mail and/or FF, but off-hand I cannot think of what it would be.
If that doesn't take care of it, try opening Safari, set FF as default browser and then do a PRAM Reset.
And if still no luck, try Safe Boot.

  • Hotmail to Mac Mail import taking days

I do have a ton of Hotmail messages in my Inbox (about 15,000), and am trying to import them into Mail. It is importing them, but only at a rate of about 1 per every 5 minutes. At this rate, it will take months to import them. Is there any faster way? The status in the bottom left under Mail Activity says it's importing about 5KB/s, although it really is much slower. Please advise.

  • Question about importing from mac mail to folder in address book

Is it possible to place imported email addresses (Mac email) into specific folder(s) in Address Book rather than into just the All Folder.? For example, I have several business addresses that I want to import from Mac Mail automatically into my Business Folder and several others that I want to go into Friends Folder. Can this be done? If so how? Thanks
iMac Intel Duo 20" Mac OS X (10.4.10)
      Mac OS X (10.3.7)

The Address Book database is similar to the iTunes database and iPhoto database.
If you use iTunes then you know you can't place a song in a playlist without the song being in the primary iTunes database first and the same with iPhoto. You can't place a photo in an album with the photo being in the main iPhoto library first.
The same with Address Book. You can't place a contact in an Address Book group without the contract being in the primary Address Book "All" Group and I'm not aware of a way to place a contact in the primary All group and in a designated group at the same time.

  • How can I import 1000s of Emails from Mac Mail (Exchange Account) into Gmail and Retain Labels?

I have an old exchange account in Mac Mail, disconnected, but still with 1000s of emails in a folder structre. I'd like to import all of those into my Gmail account, and retain the folder structre as Gmail labels). What's th easiest way to do this?

That is a question for Google, as far as I know Exchange does not use labels, the folders are (unlike Gmail) real.
But Google support may know a way.
