Mac Mail is sluggish after Yosemite upgrade, does anyone know why or what to do?
Hi, I recently upgraded to Yosemite and have hated my mac mail ever since. I have noticed that my mac mail is extremely sluggish and I have had to re-start my mac multiple times.
It seems that everything else is working like usual, and I have read some similar forums and have tried re-indexing and re-building my mail boxes, but so far nothing has changed.
Any thoughts?
You restart your Mac because Mail is sluggish, not for any other reason? And is it still sluggish after the restart?

Does anyone know why or what is the reason when starting a new iMac with Lion, sometimes a gray bar appears under the Apple that begins to shade to dark as it loads OS? It does this on occasion. One time the system loaded was VERY slow and terrible colors. Pulled the plug, re-started the computer and it did not do this. As I say, its only on occasion, not every time. I noticed in the discussion page there were problems listed for 10.6 nothing for Lion.
Please advise, if possible.You should see this 4 option menu. Click on Disk Utility:
In Disk Utility, Select FIRST AID and then VERIFY and then REPAIR the disk.

Hi i have avi files saved in iphoto that i used to be able to play through quicktime. However in the last few weeks i cannot play many of these files. I can see the videos and click on them but nothing happens (i have version 7.6.9 of quicktime). Does anyone know why this has happened and what i can do about this?

As previously stated, AVI is a file container. It is somewhat old and its originator, Microsoft, dropped official support of it over a decade ago. However, it remains popular with PC users since almost any valid audio and/or video compression format can be stuffed to the file which synchronizes the content by interleaving the individual audio and video frames. The compression format is the specific manner in which the audio and video data are encoded as it is placed in the AVI container. You can find the compression format by inspecting the file in the Finder "Info" window, or in the "Inspector" window of the QT player (or other media player) if the file can be opened.
For instance, one popular compression combination would be to place DivX encoded video and MP3 audio in an AVI file container. However, neither DivX nor MP3 is natively supported by the QT player. (Although iTunes will natively support the MP3 audio.) Therefore, people who wish to play such files in the QT 7 Player would normally install either the DivX component or Perian but not both. Either installation will independently play such files in the QT Player, but if both are installed, the file will usually stop working since these two codecs can create a playback conflict.
However, the AVI container could just as easily contain DV along with DV audio. In this case, the file should play correctly in QT since this compression format is natively supported by the basic component configuration that comes in every current OS installation. Therefore, if such files suddenly stopped playing, this could be an indication that a component has been moved or deleted or that your system or QT embedded structure has become corrupted. -

Another question: does anyone know how audio linked to the glossary terms can be easily repeated? Currently, it's not possible to click on the term a second time to repeat the audio - I have to click another term, then return to the one I want to repeat (audio)
Message was edited by: Susan MartinUnfortunately Susan this appears to be a limitation of the standard Glossary widget. I have a client that wanted the exact same feature, click the term and hear the word again. I had considered using other Glossary widgets that are available but all of them seem to have one short coming or another. One option I considered was creating a small flash app/button (play audio) that contained the audio file and could be placed in the description like an image but this became to cumbersome for the number of terms we had to use and opened up all other issues and I can't even remember if importing a flash element is a feature of the standard Glossary or and third party.
I hope that someone else has some other insights for you. -
I created some ringtones and managed to get them into the tones section of my library on itunes. I can see and play them. However, when I try to drag and drop them into the tones library on my iphone it will let me drag them but not drop them in. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for any help
Email it to yourself, then save the file and then see if you can convert it to MP3.

Switching on and off iCloud Drive loses my smart mailboxes. I have to restore them from Time Machine. Thank God Time Machine still works properly after the upgrade. Anyone know why this happens? Twice now.
Because smart mailboxes are stored in iCloud Drive, so they can sync across your various Macs.
Are you regularly turning iCloud drive off and on? If so, this will keep removing your smart mailboxes. Note that if you turn iCloud drive back on, your smart mailboxes should show back up, as they're stored there and the data will be re-downloaded from the server.
Presumably if you have iCloud drive off, and you create smart mailboxes in Mail, then they'll stay around. But if you turn iCloud drive on and back off again, I'd expect them to disappear. -
I'm a video editor working primarily in FCP7 and just purchased the latest Mac Pro running Yosemite ? Does anyone know if any options have become available for running FCP7 on this platform ?
It would "run" (more like Sunday stroll or walk) if you installed Snow Leopard in a VM. Especially if you have 6-core (and would help to have 6 or 8 cores anyway if you were able to and intend to make best use of nMP for video editing).
If you "classic" Mac Pro was 2009 or later, adding two AMD graphic cards, upgrading the processor to 8-core 3.xGHz would have gotten you a FCP-X capable machine and still dual boot and use Snow Leopard as needed.
Any Mac Pro can now use 1000MB/sec SSD PCIe blade to boot from and/or for scratch and editing to help improve work flow.

Adobe Creative Cloud (Desktop) does not work properly. The application is blocked : it could not be launch neither stopped. I'm on MAC Yosemite OS, does anyone know how to remove it properly or to force its stop. It does not appear in the launched applications.
I received no error message. The application was just trying to find applications unsuccessfully.
I am using MAC OS 10.10.1
I tried to uninstall the application but it seems that a kind of deamon is still installed thus providing me to reinstall properly. Do you know where are the elements to remove in order to get my machine just like before ?
Otherwise I would have to reinstall everything and this would be a pain.

Does anyone know why since upgrading to ML notes are not visible in Time Machine. They used to be part of mail and could be recovered from Time machine but since ML I don't seem to be able to access notes in Time Machine. Any help would be useful.

Mail doesn't support notes. If you use iCloud, you have them in it because Notes is an application -
I am trying to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard. When I insert the disk and install starts, it states "This disk is used for Time Machine backups" and Mac OSX can't be installed. Does anyone know how to correct this (since Tiger doesn't have Time Machine)?

On my IPad 2 home screen, the mail app used to indicate the number of new messages with a number in a red circle, next to the app. This has vanished, I think about the same time as when I upgraded to the new OS. Does anyone know why and how to restore this feature?
