Mac Mail losing account info

Hi,
Every once in a while, and I don't know why, MacMail just loses my account info.
For example, everything was perfect (even this morning) until I came back from lunch today. I opened up Mail and just got the spinning wheel next to my account name and then the circle with the triangle & exclamation point inside. Doesn't show any errors at all. Just no incoming email. This account is for an account on my web host, not gmail or yahoo mail or other webmail thing.
Also, for another account I also get the spinning wheel and then I get a message that says "The POP server "pop.sbcglobal.net" rejected the password...." This also used to work fine and I don't know why it would suddenly lose the account info.
The first problem is more of an issue for me because I don't get any message that tells me what's wrong.
Any help is appreciate.
Rob

MacMail just loses my account info.
Mail is not losing your account info; it's just unable to establish a connection to the mail server for some reason. Happens all the time, around the world, so it's nothing to worry about. It should correct itself on the next attempt.

keeps asking to put info on keychain.
    misplacing incoming mail.

If I have a virus or corruption, how can I flush and restore?
I already had a copy of my 10.2.8 OS update and ran that but no help.

Only old copy of Disk First Aid. Will try to get fresh copy online (?)
Not available online and what does old copy of Disk First Aid mean?
Your OS detail provided indicates you are running 10.2.x which is code named Jaguar.
Assuming 10.2.x was pre-installed on your Mac along with the corresponding install package that shipped with your Mac when new, where is your 10.2.x install package which you need to boot this computer from in order to run Disk First Aid repair on your boot volume?
Reran OSX 10.2.8 copy to reset priviledges. (took 20 minutes or so.)
Found discrepancies but repair didn't solve issues.
Reran OS X 10.2.8 copy of what to reset disk permissions? Is this the 10.2.x install package that shipped with your Mac when new and if not, a 10.2.x retail install package that you used to upgrade this Mac to 10.2?
Either way, this is the install package that you can and need to use to run Disk First Aid repair on your boot volume. Inset the install disc and select restart via the Finder to restart the computer. At the startup chime, press and hold the "C" key until the computer boots from the install disc.
Navigate to Disk Utility via the Installer menu bar. Select Macintosh HD in the drives and volumes window and under the First Aid tab, select Repair Disk. If any problems are reported and successfully repaired, run repair again until no problems are reported.
If there is a problem reported that cannot successfully repaired after running Repair Disk several times, the problem is substantial and you have two options if so.
Purchase and use a more substantial disk repair utility such as Disk Warrior (with no guarantees but DW has been known to work miracles) or backup all data and reformat your hard drive (which completely erases the hard drive) choosing HFS+ with Journaling enabled before performing an Erase & Install which can be done with Disk Utility when booted from your 10.2.x install package.
21G hard drive with 19.14 used.
This is not adequate free hard drive space required for OS X to function properly which is likely the cause of your problems.
Not having adequate free hard drive space can cause the loss and/or corruption of application and system preference files, data corruption and in data loss.
You need to free up some hard drive space with a preference being having no less than 5GB free at all times.

  • Mac Mail POP accounts + iPhone

Hello, and please forgive me in advance if this has been covered.
I'm trying to sync all of my Mac Mail POP accounts to the iPhone, which at first seemed simple, which it was until on the Mac side Mail started to ask me for passwords over and over again... though on the iPhone side everything seems groovy.
As a work around I've selected only the .Mac accounts to be synced for now.
I'm sure it's an easy fix, just wanted to put this out there in case I'm doing something wrong

Honestly, 'sync' and 'POP' don't belong together in
    the same sentence.
You should seriously take a look at using IMAP
technology wherever it is available, converting your
POP3 mailboxes where you can. Mail service at .Mac is
offered in both flavors, and you are far better off
    using IMAP.
This is not an iPhone specific matter, as the POP3 vs
IMAP issue comes up almost daily in the
Mail & Address Book forum. You might want to
browse or search it to learn why IMAP is the answer
to those who seek to 'synchronize' mail content.
    thanks for your reply.
What I meant by putting 'sync' and 'pop' in the same sentence was syncing the Mac Mail accounts, not necessarily the emails. I understand the difference between pop and imap.
The point of my question revolves around what I've already stated. I'm not looking to argue about semantics, how many terms I've decided to use in one sentence, or a discussion on your opinion of pop vs. imap; just trying to figure out why all of a sudden Mac Mail on the host computer is asking me for passwords over and over again after hooking up the iPhone and attempting to 'sync' mail account information over.

  • Mac Mail - Add Account Options

My mac mail will not give me "account type" options. How do I get the option to select an account type. When I go to preferences and click on the "+" button to add an account I just get the screen that says enter your name email address and password. I don't get a screen that says "choose a mail account to add". Please help. I'd like to add an exchange account.

Try holding down the option key when you hit continue. That should allow for a manual setup.

  • Mac Mail 2 accounts sending issue.

So my question is similar too:
Mac Mail not sending from correct account.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3863408?start=0&tstart=0
So basically, I started using mac mail about 4 months ago. About 2 months ago I deciced to add a second email to the list, my "junk" email address. Both are hotmail accounts.
When you have 2 accounts it gives you the option when you send new mail to choose from which email acccount the email will be sent from... from the drop down menu.
I started noticing that people were reciving emails from my jumk account, when i had clearly been selecting the proper account from the drop down menu. So i used that other post to check to see if my outgoing servers were correct and everything was in order. Still continued to happen.
This is where i am completely stumped.
I removed the junk account completely from the Mac Mail application. Started just accessing it through a browser. BUT I still am continueing to have the problem of people receving emails from my junk account when I send emails from the proper account using mac mail.
How do I go about fixing this? i am thinking I will have to re-install, but is there another way?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    System Preferences / Accounts tab
Make one for each of you.
Don't use a browser to view your email. Set up the Mail application to get them.

  • How can I import 1000s of Emails from Mac Mail (Exchange Account) into Gmail and Retain Labels?

I have an old exchange account in Mac Mail, disconnected, but still with 1000s of emails in a folder structre. I'd like to import all of those into my Gmail account, and retain the folder structre as Gmail labels). What's th easiest way to do this?

That is a question for Google, as far as I know Exchange does not use labels, the folders are (unlike Gmail) real.
But Google support may know a way.

  • Mac Mail POP Account Not Receiving Messages

Using Mac Mail, I am suddenly not receiving messages in a POP account. The gmail account I use is working normally. Under connection doctor both accounts are green. Help, please?

Same problem here since upgrading to Mail 7.1 (1827). All the settings are seemingly correct. The emails are marked as 'Read' on the server but are not downloaded.
The emails are also deleted a week later as set in preferences.
Thinking the emails may have gone elsewhere I used Spotlight to look for them. No success there.

  • Mail erases account info and now requires a new port number to send mail

well like the topic said, my mail tends to erase all my account info, and when I re-enter it it says I cannot send or receive mail.
I somehow now got it so I can GET mail but it still won't let me send mail citing that the port number is wrong and now asks for an IMAP path prefix... sheesh...
    any suggestions?
    thanks!

OK...OK I think I fixed it... sorry for the crazed post
i was trying to change the port in the wrong window... i did the old 'change to port 587 trick' ...whew
but this does happen a lot... any reason why?
    or is mail just buggy??

  • Sync keeps losing account info/connection:

I started sync in ffv7. It lost all settings (ID, password, & key) in move to v8. But still loses without further upgrade after re-instating sync. How can I fix?
Also, if all sync account info is lost on main PC, what's the procedure to re-instate?

    Hi,
As Richard mentions, you may want to review your Privacy settings: [[Options window - Privacy panel]]
Almost every case similar to yours is because of a too aggressive Privacy setting where you reset your passwords at the end of each session. You can use Custom settings and make sure that your passwords are saved. After all, if you want to sync them, you want to store them.

  • Suddenly I can't send emails on mac mail iCloud account.  Actually I can, but only one line of text!!

It's really odd.  I can send a 'blank' mail, even one with a few lines.  Anything more than that and the activity window shows it 'trying' to send then it just stops. If I then try to send a short mail after any larger one this is also stopped.    As an aside I also note from the activity window that mail appears to be downloading 1000's of messages but I don't see where these go.   I have a few machines and all of them are experiencing the same issue.  I have attempted uninstalling the account and then reinstalling it but no change.  Does anyone know what this could be as it really is driving me nuts!   I have used macs and mail for years and it's all been good until now.

Apple sent an update for iMac and after installing it my e-mail is working fine.

  • I just lost all of my Mail, and Account Info ?!

In Mail preferences, I'm running 10.8.2 and Mail 6.2, I've lost all of my earthlink.net account information and it's been replaced with MobileMe info ?!?!?!
My life is in my Mail program ... what's happened ?!
I had hit Rebuild Mailbox for my InBox ... addresses were loading super slow, ie. I was getting the ring of death when asking Mail to finish email addresses ... and then something happened. Something like this has happened in the past. I just quit Mail, reopen it, and everything goes back to "normal."
My old emails don't seem to be in Time Machine, even if I go back to before this incident earlier today.
I've had my earthink account infor in Mail Preferences for so long I have know idea what info I need to get it back on track.
    Thanks ....

Quit Mail. In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. Restore the following items from the most recent snapshot taken before the data loss:
    Containers/com.apple.mail
    Mail
    Relaunch Mail and test.
Note that if you have an IMAP account, messages may not be stored on your computer at all. They may only be on the server.

  • Mac Mail other accounts "lost"

I am running iMac with Lion 10.7.3.  I had a power outage this morning which shutdown my iMac.  After powering up my Mail now only has one email account available, I should have nine. I researched online and found suggestion to restore my permissions file from Time Machine. I did that, rebooted and run Repair Permissions from the Disk Utilities. All to no avail.  This is now critical as while I can retrieve emails for all my accounts the sent mail folders from my iMac are very important.  I am now getting a little desperate, could someone help please.
