Mac Mail misbehaving with formatting

Hi all,
I have an intermittant issue in Mac Mail 4.5 which has been reoccouring since I bought this computer 18 months ago.
Whilst composing, if I delete a line, cut and paste or try to move text by draging the text jumps to a line above where I move it, cannont be moved back into place and refuses to merge with previous lines.
The only work arround that has been sucessful is to retype the message from scratch without cut or paste.
I've updated my software, run permissions repair and have restarted many many times.  I'd appreciated hearing if any other users have suggestions as to how to address this issue.
Thanks,
J

If you don't get an answer here soon you can try the Mail forum. Each OS has a Mail section, so go to the Snow Leopard forum, click Refine This List and choose Mail & Address Book.

If you are using Address Book, open it, create a new Group, select all you contacts by click the top one while holding down the shift key and then select the last one. Drag the contacts to the group, then send an e-mail to the group.

  • Mac mail program with complex HTML and ability to send hyperlinks?

Alright, here is the issue I've been struggling with forever.
I'm responsible for sending out my band's emails to our mailing list. I need to add hyperlinks and insert pictures that will show up in the body of the email for both mac and PC users.
In Mac mail with Panther, my hyperlinks come out fine for both Macs and PC users. However, my inserted pictures show up in the body of the email only for other Mac users. Most PC users only see the pics as attachments not in the body of the email.
I've also tried Entourage X, but the opposite problem occurs. Using HTML mode, my pictures always show up in the body of the email for both PC and Mac users, but when I'm in HTML mode there is no way to add hyperlinks.
What is my solution here? Does anyone use other email programs that would allow me to fix the problem. Perhaps I need to compose complex HTML messages in order to ensure hyperlinks and pics appear in the body of emails? If you agree with this, where would I begin to learn how to do this?
    Please help!
    Danny

I have been searching for how to create custom HTML emails in Mail, in a way that would work with OS 10.3 and 10.4, so as not to rely on the user having Tiger. After reading through many posts, I came up with a script that creates a new HTML message that you can still edit in Mail itself before sending, and you don't need Safari 2. I'm new to scripting so please let me know if this is useful.
    Jodain
Part I: defines the HTML code; you can make something in the script itself as long as the string this_html ends up in proper formatting. I actually came up with this primarily for pasting most the html code in the script itself, with a few changing variables. If you do paste or type html code in the script, make sure you use \\ for every \, and \" for every ". If you're using TextEdit to alter the html, use find and replace in that order (\:\\ then ":\").
Part II: builds a message in Mail with the html content... an undocumented property of a Mail message. However, it only works when visibility is false, so unless you send it right away, the user is not able to still type the recipients and edit the body in Mail as he/she might be used to. Which brings me to...
Part III: takes the saved draft and opens it up for editing. The open command only lets you view the message, even if it is outgoing, so I had to come up with a work-around so you can still edit as if you're composing it for the first time.
    --Part I
tell application "Safari" to set this_html to source of document 1
tell application "Safari" to set this_page to name of document 1
    --Part II
    tell application "Mail"
    activate
set theMsg to make new outgoing message with properties ¬
    {subject:this_page, html content:this_html & ¬
    return & return, content:""}
tell theMsg to make new to recipient
    save theMsg
    --Part III
if not (exists the front message viewer) then make new ¬
    message viewer
    tell front message viewer
    set selected mailboxes to {the drafts mailbox}
set sort column to date received column
    set sorted ascending to false
    delay 3
    set selected messages to {first message}
tell application "System Events" to tell process ¬
    "Mail" to keystroke return
    end tell
    end tell

  • Mac Mail 3 html formatting issues

I have some people I've been working with who recently upgraded to Mac Mail 3 and since a quarantine report they receive about email that was filtered no longer displays correctly. It displays correctly for anyone using anything other than Mac Mail 3 but for them, the first line of the report looks fine but everything after that looks way oversized. The report comes in an html format. Does anyone know of any issues with Mac Mail 3 displaying html formatted emails correctly and if there are any fixes for it?
    Thanks

    Hi 2point5,
THX for help, but that didn't help me. Maybe I didn't describe my Point exactly.
I receive a email, which have two alternative contents. One is HTML-content and the other is the TXT-content.
When I receive the email with 10.4.11, mail.app offer me the second alternative view (View->Message->Plain Text Alternative (AltAppleP) ) So I can see the TXT version of the mail.
In mail.app 3.5 (Leo) the point is grayed out, like as there is no txt version of the mail. (Same mail…)

  • Repeatedly mac mail corrupt with gmail

    Hi,
On a client's macair with IOS 10.9.2 he uses Mac Mail, with 4 mail accounts. Two are simple POP accounts.  Two are IMAP accounts sync with business Google Gmail accounts.  Three times in the past 6 weeks one of his Gmail accounts (e.g. [email protected]) becomes corrupt where Mac Mail does not send.emails and stops showing new incoming email.  Just this one Gmail account.  Mail continues to work OK from other devices with this account loaded (e.g. iPhone, one other machine with this account loaded or via browsers).
Connection Doctor, Rebuilds do not resolve the issue.  Plenty of free space on the unit.
To fix it I remove this account then add it (as new) again.  Then all works well for a week or two. Fortunately as an IMAP account no emails or information is lost.  About 2.04 GB in this account, so it takes time to re-download.
So what s the underlying issue and what do I do to prevent this from recurring?  Help!
    Thanks

update. Maverick Version is 10.9.4, Mail is V 7.3
Within Mail, going to Mailbox, Sync shows just this one account greyed out.

  • .Mac Mail incompatible with Firefox?  Also, outgoing mail problems in Mail.

I run Firefox on my Apple as well as on the PC I have to use for work. When I visit my dotmac account and go to my mail, in Firefox on either of these computers, I can read e-mail but cannot respond or compose a new message. When I try to do either of those things, I just get a big empty, blank box that won't let me type in it.
I can compose and reply just fine on Safari.
I've been searching the web for discussion on this, but haven't seen any so I'm starting to wonder if it's something I'm doing wrong. My settings haven't changed, the old .mac mail worked just fine.
    Any thoughts?
My second problem, which I believe is unrelated as it only started happening recently is my .mac account within the Mail app will not send mail. I recently had my system crash and had to erase the hard drive and re-install the OS. I saved my data with the Firewire disk mode and my iMac. But ever since, my .mac e-mail refuses to send mail. The User name and password are correct, the outgoing mail server is just like it always was. It tries to send the message then tells me the message can't be sent with the server smtp.mac.com

    Try this-
Find Firefox preferences, and be sure that popups are not being blocked.
Not sure about that, but it sounds like popup problems.
In Apple Mail, try entering the smtp server for your ISP (comcast? roadRunner?) some ISP's force you to use their mail servers. (don' tchange anything about POP, just change smtp.mac....to smtp.[ISP's_servers]
Your password may need to be adjusted.
I know you say "like it always was", but something might have changed during your hard drive erasure.

  • Mac Mail converting with hotmail !!

    HI guys...
i would really like to have my hotmail account as my Mac mail account. I would really like to have my hotmail account to be linked or "run trough" mail via Mac mail. But I do not know how to set it up or if, what settings to choose?
Could some one please help me,
    Best regards
    /Eric S

You will need to download and install httpmail plugin from www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com. This will enable you to use Mail for your hotmail account.

  • Mac Mail Problem with AOL

Hi. I keep getting the following pop up window error message with my Mac mail: "Mail can't connect to the AOL account...." Is there anything I can do to resolve this?  Please help.  Thx! :-)

After 9 months with the  macbook pro and no problems watsoever, my AOL mail suddenly started having problems but not on my iPad or iPhone.  There's no doubt that the problem was intitated by a change made by Apple to the software on my computer.  As others have noted files with the email settings get scrambled.
The symptoms come and go,  sometimes closing the mail program and rebooting will cure the probems.   Apple recommends waiting 10 minutes ,  are you nuts?  Trip (with appointment ) to Santa Monica Apple store  and the tech was less than helpful , struggling under Apple's   work two customers for their allotted 15 min.
Sorry for ranting in tech space but one of the benefits of paying the premium for Apple products is that they work.  Apple we have a problem here, but you have a far larger problem .....  as a iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple stock owner I see the handwriting on the wall....

  • Mac Mail flooded with spam emails

My main email has been hacked & I'm getting "Mail delivery failure" emails by the 1000's over 3 days now.  Genius bar couldn't fix it.  Ran Norton & they couldn't find a virus so I think it's coming from another source rather than my computer.  Which is good.  I have 15" MacBook Pro running 10.9.4 latest software.
It's coming in in iCloud mail as well as my .mac mail which I've used EVERYWHERE so I don't want to delete it.  Help!

Change your password immediately. This will stop any future hacking using your account. If possible add two step authentication. This will require a device capable of SMS.
    http://www.wired.com/2013/03/apple-2-step-verification/
Setup using Manage my Apple ID: https://appleid.apple.com/
Once you’ve changed the password for your email account it is important to change the password of any other accounts with other services such as Facebook, Twitter, Amazon or your internet banking that may have had the same password.
Never use the same password twice.

  • Mac mail problem with gmail smtp server

    I had 2 gmail addresses.
about 3 weeks ago mac mail decided to always send email from both addresses as if they originated from only one address.
I did not solve this problem.
For non related reasons, I got another gmail address.
    The same thing started happening.
I now had 3 gmail addresses, but recipients were receiving all email from only one address.
I went to email preferences and started exploring and experimenting.
I was able to reconfigure so that the new gmail address sends from its proper smtp address.
However, there is nothing I can do to get my second email address to send from its proper smtp.
For some inexplicable reason the dialogue box beside "Outgoing Mail Serve (SMTP): tells me that smpt server is offline.
I have no idea how to get it back online.
(In the server editor, there is one more gmail smtp server than I need, 4 instead of 3 and 2 are offline - one just went off tonight)
All relevant mail boxes are online.
Does anyone know anything about this problem?

    Jack,
There are mail forums in the forums for OS X, because you are using Leopard 10.5.6 (why haven't you upgraded to 10.5.8?) you should re-post in that forum. Mail comes as part of the OS that is why they're there. The address is:

  • Mac mail issues with Mavericks?

Recently, I have downloaded and installed Mavericks OS. I have an intel based Imac and use Mac mail as my mail client. I have cable internet thru Cox.
When I try to forward an email message, I can't seem to be able to input an address from my contacts list. I used to be able to just double click the address in my contacts list and it would go right into the address box on my forwarded message. Now, that doesn't happen. Anyone have a similar proble or solution?
    Thanks, barry

Try deleting all old unnecessary emails in Gmail.  I had a sync problem (new emails would never show up) after upgrading to Yosemite.  Finally deleted 4000 old gmails and now it works.

  • Mac Mail Compatibility with Recipients who use Outlook

    Hi,
I use Mac Mail while the majority of the recipients that my work emails go to use Outlook on a PC. Here are the issues I am encountering:
    1. I am aware that font recognition is different on a Mac vs. a PC, so I set my font to Times New Roman which I understand to be standard across all platforms.
    2. When I send an email, the Outlook recipient receives my message and the font and my signature is at least 2-3 font sizes larger than the size in which I wrote the email in Mac Mail.
This makes for very unprofessional looking emails. Additionally, I am very surprised that Apple has not figured out a way to easily allow us to create and use signatures that include logos, etc.
Interestingly enough, when I send email from my iPhone and someone views on Outlook, it looks just fine!
    I am on Lion.
Any comments are welcome, and thanks.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

  • Mac mail/creating new format style

    Hi all,
I sometimes send emails with a good amount of copy ( I have my compose preference set to RTF). I notice that the default format style for macmail is Left aligned, Spacing 1.0x. (no leading or 'set solid'). I'd like to create a new 'favorite style' that includes the basic type 'Geneva' and flush left alignment but with more leading, maybe '2.0' so that the copy is more readable. I go to the menu Format-->Style-->Styles. A styles info box comes up:
Can anyone tell me how to create a new format style with greater leading than the
default style then add it to favorites? Will a person who receives my email who is using a different email client necessarily receive the formatting I am sending?
I hope I'm not missing something obvious. lol.
Also, if anyone knows the html code that would center my image in this email, please pass that along as well. I tried the <center> tags but they didn't work.
Thanks in advance for any input.
    Regards,
    Dennis

Replying to myself to add some more information, and ask some additional questions:
Poking around, I have found some information -- a few years old, unfortunately -- that seems to indicate that you cannot create aliases to associate with a mac.com account. What I may have to do is add an address in the primary account, in the Email Address field of the Account Information tab, where she currently has this:
    [email protected], [email protected]
If that works, that'll be great, but one flaw in this method is that you can't specify a different sender name. Her customers at "herdomain.com" will still just see her name, Jane Doe, when what she really wants in the sender field for that e-mail address is "Jane Doe, Director, Her Domain Inc."
Can anyone verify if I am finally understanding this correctly? Or if there is something else I can do to get her that alternate identity on her mac.com account?
    Thanks.
