Mac Mail: On my mac mailbox deleted my emails.

Hi,
A couple of days ago out all my "on my mac" mailboxes dissappeared. The emails which came from my IMPAP account were still available on the main inbox whereas the ones that came from another account (an exchange one) dissapeared and I cannot get them back.
Some of the rules still appeared on the preferences but some didn't.
I then re-created all the mailboxes and after a couple of days it would not let me move messages between inboxes. I read on this forum to try adn rebuild the mailbox, which I did, but it only resulted in deleting all the emails in that folder!
Any one know what is going on and what I should do?
Thanks,
G.

Unless you have a backup I don't think that you can recover them.

  • Why can't I use Yahoo mail? It won't delete any emails. Google chrome does it right. Fix it or you will lose our business

Yesterday, Aug. 22, Mozilla suffered a massive & complete breakdown in handling Yahoo. Originally I thought it was a virus. I immediately switched to Google Chrome & worked on it w/o difficulty all day long. Yahoo was pushing all data/articles to the left side of the screen. That fixed today, Aug. 23. HOWEVER, the problem with Yahoo mail persists. Out of the blue, it's impossible to delete any Yahoo emails on Mozilla. If you single click to select a list of emails to be deleted, they open automatically. There's no "delete" at the top of the screen to get rid of it. It's very annoying. Somebody's messing with your system (alone). Google Chrome & Microsoft Explorer worked just fine all day. FIX IT!

YES!!! IT WORKED!!! THANK GOD! Mozilla is so much more fun than Google Chrome--- All my bookmarks were saved & my passwords, too! And now my Yahoo Mail is working beautifully again! What a relief!

You can't delete the email service, but you can just remove the email account from your computer and devices and thereafter won't be getting that email.

  • On 10.4.11 Mac Mail I get this: Mail cannot update your mailboxes because your home directory is full. You must free up space in your home folder before using Mail. Delete unnedded documents or move documents to another volume. I can't open mail.

On 10.4.11 iMac Mac Mail I get this message: "Mail cannot update your mailboxes because your home directory is full. You must free up space in your home folder before using Mail. Delete unneeded documents or move documents to another volume." I can't open mail to do this. I have reinstalled software but no effect. How do I get into Mail to delete?

Found this on the "more like this" Worked like a charm!
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Go to Home > Library > Mail > Envelope Index. Move the Envelope Index file to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and you will be prompted to import mailboxes. Select OK and allow the import process to complete.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully imported and available, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old Envelope Index file from the Desktop and this should resolve the problem.

  • How do I delete an infected piece of mail in my mac mailbox?

I have bitdefender for mac and it has found tp pieces of mail in my saved mail boxes and it won't let me delete it. It says I don't have permission to delete or move this mail. I have reindexed the box but it did not work.
    any suggestions?
    thanks

I've never heard of bitdefender, and I'm familiar with most of the major AV programs available for the Mac.  There's gotta be a reason for that.  You should read my Mac Malware Guide, and if you still want AV software, you may want to consider getting something else, like the free and excellent ClamXav.
Regarding the mail, it's fairly common to find messages with Windows malware attached in the Junk or Trash mailboxes.  That kind of spam arrives all the time.  It can't hurt you, though, and I've never yet heard of any Mac malware being delivered via e-mail.  To get rid of it, find the affected messages in Mail, delete them and then empty the trash.  I don't know how bitdefender works, but in ClamXav, you can get information about malware that has been found, like where the file is.  If you can do that, find the message file (which should end in .emlx), double-click it to open the message in Mail (don't worry, opening a message with a malware attachment in Mail is not dangerous) and delete it.

  • Using OS 10.4 Mail. IMAP mailboxes filling up on server. How to periodically archive on my Mac but delete from server?

I'm using OS 10.4, Mail. Accessing IMAP accounts on mail server. The server mail boxes are filling up and bouncing mail. How can I archive the old mail on my computer and delete it from the server to make room for new mail? Will creating an archive mailbox "on my mac", copying old mail from my inbox to the archive mailbox, deleting the old mail from my inbox and then synchronizing with the server work? Will moving the old mail to the archive mailbox work? Thanks in advance for any insights.

    Great news, thanks!

  • I deleted all mail on server. How do I restore .mac mailboxes from backup?

My .mac mailbox was almost full so I went to my .mac account through my browser and deleted everything and emptied the trash. Then when I looked in my mail.app on my imac all my emails were gone from my .mac account. I have a complete backup, but when I copied to user/library/mail/my .mac folder (which has about 6 subfolders), nothing showed up in my mailboxes on my desktop. How can I restore my .mac mailboxes.? And how do I setup my .mac mail so it doesn't stay on the server at all but only on my own hard drive?

    Hello,
Either resetup your .mac account as Account Type POP, or simply create some On My Mac mailboxes and move the messages from your .mac Inbox to these one or more On My Mac mailboxes (created as New Mailboxes).
When set up as Account Type .mac, it is the same as IMAP, and the Inbox resides on the server, as normally does the Sent mailbox. The strong point of IMAP accounts is that the Sent and Inbox synce between computers since the mailboxes reside on the server. Most people choose a .mac account specifically because the mailboxes reside on the server.
When you first reconnected with Mail, after using web access to delete, it synced the empty Inbox, as would be expected with an IMAP or .mac account. If you have a backup copy of any xxxx.imapmbox folder that once existed on the server, then you can rename that to be xxxx.mbox and Import it into Mail. This would include the INBOX.imapmbox folder from the copy of your .mac account folder.

  • If OS X Mail gets msgs from gmail, then will deleting msgs on Mac also delete on gmail?

I have an e-mail account on gmail.
On my Mac, Mail 5.1 syncs to my gmail account, downloading messages to my local disc.
I want to free up space on my Mac by deleting local copies of gmail messages.  However, I do not want those messages to be deleted from the gmail server.  I want continued access to all my gmail messages by web browser.
Question: will messages deleted from my local disc also be deleted from gmail servers?

When you delete a message from a GMail account from within Mail, whether or not you empty the trash afterward, the message remains in the All Mail mailbox.  Only when deleting from the GMail web interface does the message get deleted permanently...  but that is not the topic of this discussion.  Also, the behavior is not the same when deleting from an iPhone...  but again, that is not the topic of this discussion.  We are discussing deletion of e-mail from within Mail 5.1 on a Mac, and the behavior is as I described.
This was verified with testing back when I wrote the article I referred to above, and was just verified again now, just to make sure nothing has changed.  But if you still don't want to take my word for it, perhaps you'll take Google's:

  • Cannot delete On My Mac mailboxes

I have several empty mailboxes On My Mac. I right-click on them, select delete mailbox, get the warning dialog box, select delete. Mailbox still exists. How do I get rid of them?

That list *_does not_* show mailboxes, it shows accounts. If you delete one of those accounts, you'll lose all the mail in all mailboxes associated with that account (unless those messages are still stored on the server), as well as no longer being able to send or receive mail using that account.
As to the error, I'm not sure what it could be... possibly a permissions problem in the folder where Mail stores the mailboxes. "On My Mac" mailboxes should be stored in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ (where the '~' means "your home folder"). You could try quitting Mail, then moving the affected mailbox from there into the trash in the Finder. Start Mail again and the mailbox should be gone. If something goes wrong, just quit Mail and move the mailbox back from the trash to where it was. And, of course, it's always a good idea to have a good backup whenever trying something potentially destructive like this!

  • How can I set up my email so when I delete mail from my Mac it deletes from my iPhone as well?

How can I set up my email so when I delete mail from my Mac it deletes from my iPhone as well?

That is a function of your email account, if it is an Imap account it will sync, if it's a POP account, it won't.
    Who provides your email.

  • The past few days my Mail app has started downloading multiple copies of e-mails from all pop servers.  This is only happening on my Macbook not other macs.  Deleting mail from server does not help. I ran ClamXav found 2 viruses deleted problem continues

opps.  Long title there... The past few days my Mail app has started downloading multiple copies of e-mails from all pop servers.  This is only happening on my Macbook not other macs.  Deleting mail from server does not help. I ran ClamXav found 2 viruses deleted those.  Checked for software update and installed suggested downloads.  Problem still contintues.  Any suggestions?

    Folks,
even after having repaired the inbox folder under "properties" a few times, I still had some e-mails where the contents are different from the subject line.
In other words in the inbox there are two e-mails: one with subject line "abc", and another one with subject line "def".
When I display the e-mail with the subject line "abc", the contents are from the e-mail with the subject line "def" in the in-basket.
What else can be done to correct this problem?
    Thanks and best regards.

    Hi k:
That file is in your home folder ~(symbol for home)>library>preferences.
A preference file may (rare, but it happens) become corrupted. OS X rebuilds them as needed. You will need to enter any personal preferences that differ from the default settings.

  • Junk Mail - On My Mac - Problem Deleting Junk Mail

In the Junk Mail box, there are two sub-folders under it. One says "On My Mac" the other says "Home". The main junk mailbox looks empty. The "On My Mac" mailbox looks emtpy too, but there is an icon next to the folder that says there are 95 messages in there. When I select the folder and go to "Erase Junk Mail" nothing happens. Still nothing is appearing in the main window, but the little icon still shows 95! That number keeps getting bigger too.
How do I get rid of those once and for all. And I kinda want to see them to make sure they are really junk.
    Thanks

    Phil,
I don't have time this morning, before having to go to two church services, to stay with you, but will later in the day.
I need to know all the types of accounts you have. It appears you have at least one .mac account, and one IMAP account. The later is based on the report of the Junk (home).mbox in the Mailboxes folder. With a POP account, the Junk.mbox would properly be in the account folder, and not in the Mailboxes folder.
Regardless of that, the Junk(.mac account).mbox should be at the first level of the Mailboxes folder, and not WITHIN a plain Junk folder. With this structure so mixed up, it is possible to have important messages that you have not seen.
    More info, please.
