Mac Mail only imports part of Yahoo mailbox

I am trying to setup my new mac to work with my Yahoo email. I have a large amount messages in my email box, and only about 2/3 will import. I can not get my messages from the last year to pull over. I have tried it twice and have the same result. When I click check mail it says there are still about 1900 messages but then the status bar quickly fills and no new messages are imported. I have tried to delete a portion of the old messages that were imported, but I am still not able to get any new ones. New messages push just fine to my iphone.
Any thoughts or ideas....

I just wanted to say, I'm having the same problem. One of the accounts got everything, but the other has only got emails up to May this year...
So, sorry I can't help, but hopefully someone else can!

  • Mac Mail deleted inbox messages from yahoo mail, how to get them back?

I recently started using the Mac Mail client with my yahoo-plus email account.
What Mac Mail did was delete ALL inbox messages from my yahoo account, after one week from importing them to Mac Mail.
The inbox messages can still be found in the Mac Mail inbox, but not in yahoo's inbox.
I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve these deleted messages back to my yahoo inbox.
Also, I was wondering about the sync feature on the Mac Mail and what will actually happen if I use it. Does it apply to mail messages, or to address book and calendar entries?
I would appreciate you help on this issue.

The Yahoo server did exactly what you Mail program told it to do.
Mail/Preferences/Account/Advanced - This setting is adjustable for each mail account.
I didn't know about this feature until it was too late. I have already unchecked it for future emails.
I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve these deleted messages back to my yahoo inbox.
Not Really, you could forward them to your account, after you've told your mail program not to delete the emails at all, but they will show up as being from you instead of the original sender. The originals at Yahoo have been dumped and probably purged. It would take an IT manager at Yahoo to manually replace the emails, not much chance of that.
I've already asked yahoo to "restore" my inbox to a day ago. That should help me with retrieving some of the messages back, I hope.
Also, I was wondering about the sync feature on the Mac Mail and what will actually happen if I use it. Does it apply to mail messages, or to address book and calendar entries?
The sync feature refers to IMAP email accounts like .Mac or .Me or an Imap gmail account. I didn't think Yahoo offered IMAP email accounts.
Apple's MobileMe membership will let you sync your Mail, AddressBook, Calender, personal website with iWeb, etc.
"MobileMe is a service that pushes new email, contacts, and calendar events over the air to all your devices. So your iPhone, Mac, and PC stay in perfect sync."
    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/
I wanted to use Mac Mail, see if I liked it or not, then decide to get a MobileMe account. However, this is still a side note, since my yahoo account is my main email client.
You seem to be very well informed, and I was wondering if I can ask you to clarify a point for me. Do you know how to archive the inbox in the Mac Mail?
And thank you for answering my queries.

  • Can someone explain the icloud to me please? Where are all my old pictures and how can I see them? Photostream only holds 1000 and when I sync my icloud to my mac it only imports what is on my photo stream.

Can someone explain the icloud to me please? Where are all my old pictures and how can I see them? Photostream only holds 1000 and when I sync my icloud to my mac it only imports what is on my photo stream.

When you enable photo stream on your Mac, in imports photos currently in your photo stream.  However, photo stream only keeps photos for 30 days, even though up to 1000 photos will remain on your device until you delete them.  When you enable photo stream on your Mac, you will only receive photos added in the last 30 days, as the others are no longer in your photo stream.
If you want to get all your old photos on your Mac, save them to your camera roll (if they aren't already there) by opening your photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Once they are in your camera roll, import them to your Mac as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Another option would be to create a shared photo stream containing the older photos and invite yourself (as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99).  Then check Shared Photo Streams in iPhoto>Preferences>Photo Stream and you will see this shared photo stream on your Mac.

  • Mail only imports a few messages from old version...

    Hi there!
Just got my new machine and am in the process of copying all my stuff over from the old one.
I have 7 email accounts, all of them POP except one, my Hotmail account which uses Daniel Parnell's httpmail plugin so I can send and receive from within Mail.
I used the normal 'import mailboxes' command and successfully imported everything into the new version of Mail (I was using Mail previously as well, on 10.3.9) except for the inboxes of 2 accounts.....the Hotmail account and one of the POP accounts. On these, it imports about 50 of the most recent messages and ignores the rest. I tried several times and always get the same result! I know the mail is there, it shows when I open Mail on my old computer....but it just refuses to import into the new version of Mail.
These are also my oldest email accounts.....with the most messages.....could that have something to do with it? The largest account has about half a gigabyte of email in it.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated! Anyone else have this problem???
    Thanks in advance...
    Steve.
    Macbook Pro 17"/Dual 2.33   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   100 gig 7200 rpm HD, 2 GB RAM

I have a variation of this same problem.
    HISTORY:
Yesterday I began to create a new mailbox to be stored on my Mac for Sent Mail from 2006 to be transferred from another existing Sent Mail mailbox (also on my Mac) that, via Mail Rules, I have all sent mail from a single AOL account archived in--I wanted to begin feeding the last days of 2006 mail into it, and then let the pre-existing Sent Mail collect messages for 2007. The 2006 file was just over 125 MB, and along with a 2005 Sent Mail file and a 2005 Received Mail file of AOL archives, was to reside in a parent folder for AOL, simply called AOL Past Mail. Simply put, I have separate annual Sent and Received mailboxes stored on my Mac for two of my three e-mail accounts within larger folders labeled Past Mail for each account.
In a long story made short: I went to Rename (under Mail>Mailboxes menu) the parent mailbox from "Past AOL Mail: 2005" to "Past AOL Mail: 2005-" (thus with a dash to let that folder be open-ended for subsequent annual mailboxes to be added for each year). I got a message that Mail could not rename the box, and the next thing I know, there is my old Parent mailbox/folder (Past AOL Mail) whited out with four blue mailbox/folders filed within it (these included 2 folders for Received Mail for 2005 and 2006 and the Sent Mail folders for the two years). When I selected the whited out parent folder or one of the blue-colored sub-folders (the Sent and Received mailboxes) it said I had "0 Messages" in each.
After initial panic, I realized that I had my entire hard drive backed up (just up to the day before--this is a complete bootable clone of the laptop that these mailboxes are on, made by SuperDuper! software). After reading Mail Help (and BEFORE coming to this discussion forum), I tried to do an Import Mailboxes (under File in Mail menu) from the external back-up HD (over the standard FireWire 800 cable connection) by choosing the "Other" option.
The Import began smoothly enough but when it finished it had only copied mail from Jan. 1-April 10, 4:00pm. I repeated this process several times (even once with a second back-up HD that was not quite as recently updated, and once with the "Mail for Mac OS X" option) and every time got 229 messages of exactly those dates and time. Yet the messages in the "mbox" on the back-up HD clearly showed over 1,000 files dated through Dec. 24.
    THE CURRENT PROBLEM:
Now what was once a single archived mailbox of AOL mail from Jan. 1-Dec. 24 exists in three separate locations--at least the files exist.
    1) LaCie back-up HD: April 10, 11:45pm-Dec. 24 (Oddly the efforts to "Import Mailboxes" under Mail>File seem to have removed the 229 messages that were partially imported.)
    2) In various Import Folders "mboxes": Jan. 1-Apr. 10, 4pm.
    3) On the IMAP server (AOL), which can be dragged to any reassembled folder on my desktop, if done before the messages expire on the AOL server:
    Dec. 1-current.
    QUESTIONS:
1-Instead of deleting the whole Library>Mail folder from my laptop, can I just remove the broken folder I am trying to reconstitute from Library>Mail, and replace it with the (nearly) complete folder from the back-up?
2-If I were to do step 1 above, should I remove all other files from the mbox folder (Info.plist, content_index, and tableofcontents) that I am draggin in from the back-up, or leave them?
3-Having read the suggested steps for similar, but it seems significantly different, problems in this thread, my big concern is with the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. I don't want to remove it from my laptop if there is a risk that other perfectly good mailboxes on the laptop would be adversely affected. If it is necessary to allow Mail to read the full mbox being transferred from the back-up, would there likely be any difference in the com.apple.mail.plist from the back-up, which was made just 7 hours before this whole nightmare happened?
Enormous thanks for any guidance you can give to this.

  • Mac mail not importing mbox archive from gmail

Hi, I'm terminating an email but want to import my existing email messages to date into Mac mail. I have the archive of my emails via google, which put them in .mbox format. When I open my mail program, click on "Import mailboxes" and choose the .mbox archive file it acts like it is going to import, but never does.
I've searched threads on here and have not found a solution. Someone please help? Thx!

Not sure what OS you're on, but if that mbox contains .emlx files, Import emlx to mbox, See if this helps...

  • Why can I not print multiple files to one sheet and create a PDF of that format via Print dialogue on Mac? Very important part of workflow!!!!

Try this if you use mac.
Create a multiple page PDF. Three pages.
Go to print.  - Multiple pages per sheet so that you see all three pages on your sheet to be printed.
At this point, on a windows machine, you can print this as a PDF.  On Mac, it only lets you save as PDF (Not with the format selected).
WHY has this functionality been removed from the Mac version of Acrobat XI??? Adobe?

    Jon,
Unfortunately, Rave's response is quite incorrect on two major points.
The Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance was indeed part of the Macintosh version of Acrobat Pro until a few years ago.
However, it was NOT Adobe that killed the feature. Apple did! In one of the MacOS updates, Apple fully removed the capability that Adobe had to support this virtual printer. There was nothing that Adobe could do about this, regrettably. Adobe didn't cripple anything. Complain to Apple!
However, Adobe does provide a replacement for it that will yield similar results, but it is not available in Acrobat or Adobe Reader!!! In most applications' print dialogs (such as Word) - which printer you select is irrelevant, click on the PDF button and select the Save as Adobe PDF option. This will save your document as a PDF file with Adobe technology. But again, this is not available from with Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
However, you should note that the process that you previously followed and you would like to continue to use is commonly referred to as “refrying a PDF” and is strongly discouraged even where it continues to work under Windows. Why? The print function of Adobe applications including Acrobat and Reader is optimized for PostScript for printing, not for creation of PDF. Resultant PDF files have lost any transparency (it has been flattened) and all color management has been lost.
What you are really trying to do is to create a pre-imposed PDF file from an existing PDF file. Going through PostScript was and still is a very bad idea.
There are some third party plug-ins to Acrobat, such as Quite Imposing (Quite Software, <http://www.quite.com>) and PDF Snake (<http://www.pdfsnake.com>) as well as some “free” (you get what you pay for) solutions you can look up on the web that can do PDF imposition without ruining your PDF via PostScript.
    Hopefully this can assist you.

  • Mac Mail doesn't detect my selected mailbox

    Hello!
Hope you're having a great week.
    My situation is as follows:
I have several mail accounts in Mac Mail. Normally (and it used to work this way), when I started a new mail or replied or forward another, the "From" field would show the current mailbox I was using. I could still open a list there and pick another one of my addresses/mailboxes, but it would automatically choose the one from the current mailbox. For example, if I was replying or forwarding a mail, it would pick the address where I received the original mail. And if I was starting a new mail, it would pick the address from the mailbox I was last checking.
Now, it doesn't automatically chooses the right address/mailbox and I have to open the list and pick it by myself.
It isn't so much of a hassle but I want it to work again.
By the way, I already entered Mail Preferences and the option that exactly describes my situation, was already on the right option. I changed it to always be certain address and it works, but when I change it back to using the current mailbox, it doesn't work.
    Thanks in advance,
    Magias

After upgrading to Lion to use software that required the waistful upgrade and ******* away $20. It now has created more complications and issues. MAC mail does not work! and that's just the beginning. I too have to use either my phone or Ipad or even more lame log into the internet to see my mail. Yet, they have no answers to fix this. If someone out there can give a legit answer to fix it that would be great.

  • Mac Mail doesn't display new Yahoo messages

Mail application on my Mini was somewhat erratic so I did the usual trick of removing "com.apple.mail.plist" and restart application. Now all my accounts are working as they should be except Yahoo.
I deleted and added Yahoo account twice, the settings are OK but I can't see my new messages for this particular account. (IMAP)
Yahoo account is working. I can send and receive from my iPhone and iPad.
Mail displays the folders on Yahoo server.
I can see the "Sent" messages.
At the bottom left of the sidebar, I can see incomiing messages but once they are retrieved no new messages are in the Inbox.
    Can someone please help?

I checked email several minutes ago.  Activity Monitor now shows it as using 0% of CPU time.  When that's the case it's now using any power at all.  Every so often it will "wake up" to check for new mail.  When that happens it will briefly use some CPU power.  That interval can be controlled with the setting for "Check for new messages" in the General panel of Mail's preferences.
You didn't ask about RAM, but when Mail is idle I'd expect it put minimal demands on RAM.

  • ITunes only imports part of a song

I've tried uploading two cd's today and it begins to import all songs fine.
Then when approx. half the songs are imported, iTunes only imports a few seconds of each remaining song. I can end up with anything from1 second of a song to 2 minutes of a song that should be 4 minutes long.
I've run diagnostics and it passed all the tests, so I don't know what to do now?
ps I have the latest version of iTunes.

It is a bug. Some folks have found that putting the import settings on WAV corrects the problem. After you verify the WAV files are complete, you can convert to your preferred format.
If that does not help and you are tired of fussing with it, rip your CDs in another program, e.g. Windows Media Player, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.

  • Only imports parts of songs

I just bought Death Magnetic and am trying to import it into iTunes 8 (recently downloaded). Whenever I try, however, only part of certain songs are actually imported. In addition, changing the type of file to import them as (ex. AAC or MP3) affects how the songs are displayed in my library.
For example, importing the album in AAC format lists all the songs in my library, but only 4 of the tracks play for no more than a minute or so each while the rest have a time of 789:57:13. Importing the album in MP3 format only displays the 4 tracks that were partially imported.
Is this copy-protection on the CD itself or a problem with iTunes 8, and how can either be fixed?

Well, you're lucky. At least your machine sees the CD. Mine just spits it back out at me.

  • ITunes only imports part of myMusic folder

I want to add all my music files onto iTunes. All my music files are in my "myMusic" folder (on an external HDD), with subfolders by artist.
I used "add Folder to Library..." to do this. About half of the tunes uploaded. That's it. no errors, etc. Missing folders can be added manually one at a time but it will take forever to do the whole library this way.
How do I make sure the ENTIRE library gets uploaded???

This is the same problem I have as well. I just started having problems this last week importing files and folders. I will try and run an import and it doesnt bring anywhere near the songs I choose to load into ITunes.
I have tried importing folder by folder, but folders with large amounts of songs dont ever get imported. What do I do to get around this. I was readin around here and there were some people saying that it could be due to the upgrade and the difference the new ITunes has with dealing with write/read only files.
Someone help me here im dying without my IPod working properly!
Thank you for any help or advice someone brings to the table.

  • Mac mail 4.5 and yahoo mail

Anyone else having problems with mac mail 4.5 and sending mail with yahoo.mail server.  Mine is so erratic It's driving me crazy.  It works fine for a while then all of sudden it will just stop working for days at a time.  This happens without me changing any settings whatsoever.  I have other mail programs using the same servers AND THEY WORK FINE.  So this is total crap.  When I try getting help from my ISP they said it is a mac mail problem.  When I try to get help from APPLE (which is pretty much non existant) they say its an ISP problem.  The only thing I know is that its' my problem and I've given both these companies tons of money and they've left me hanging out in the breeze with arguably the most basic and important funciton of having a computer and an internet connection.  Screw them all I say.
Anyone out there to help with this quandry.  By the way I've used mail connection doctor.  It has problem connecting to the outgoing server, but then it does and says all is fine.  But I still cant send mail.  I go back to connecton doctor and do a "check again" and now it CANT connect.  Jeez this is just awful
