.mac mail problems since 10.4.8

Ever since upgrading to 10.4.8, I have to constantly reenter my .mac password to receive mail. I'll notice my mail icon bouncing, and when I check it, I get the message that I my password for .mac mail has been rejected and I must reenter it. I do so, add it to my keychain, and it works for awhile. Then for unknown reasons, same message, etc. It's getting really old. I'm curious how many others are having this same experience. I'm about ready to do a warranty "chat" with Apple and officially report the problem, since they don't seem to be doing anything about it.
Two other POP mail accounts I have work fine.

I having problems with both of my mac's when subscribing to .mac e-mail service. My G4 machine just beachballs and the Intel mac is constantly asking for my .mac password.
There's a message on the .mac home page that suggests to take your mail account offline and then online again to force it to connect. This is a temporary fix while Apple is working on the problem.
"We are aware of an issue that can cause an unrequested dialog box to be seen when checking for new messages using an email application such as Mac OS X Mail. This dialog can consist of either a request for the account password or a message informing you that the connection to the mail server has timed out.
Workaround:
Should you be presented with either of these messages, click the Cancel button which will place your account into offline mode. Then take the account online again by either selecting Go Online from the Mailbox menu or by clicking the lightning bolt icon displayed to the right of the affected account's Inbox folder icon in your mailbox list. This should make your account active again.
If the previous steps do not restore access to your mail, quit and reopen Mail. We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this.
Sincerely,
The .Mac Team"

  • Mac Mail problems since day one

    1. Through numerous OS's and different computers, I have always had to drag open my mail page a bit to get the missing part of the mail to pop in. In other words I open an e-mail the first paragraph is there nothing else. I click on the bottom corner drag open a bit and the rest of the mail pops in.
    2) When I use the Bcc. address field, the addresses used ARE NOT SAVED with my mail in my sent mail folder. I have no way of knowing whom I sent my mailing to.
    Any remedies to these problems

I just hate looking at all those long headers on each
    and every email.
No need to do that. Just select View > Message > Long Headers (or use ⇧⌘H) for the individual messages as necessary. To make it really easy, add the button to the toolbar. The option toggles between long & default headers, so a quick pair of clicks shows & hides the extra info.

  • Macbook Pro Retina - Mac Mail Problem

I've just blown a fortune on a brand new retina display macbook pro. It's time for a fresh start after years of bugs and slow laptops so I've decided I don't want to migrate from my old macbook. I have multiple email addresses, some are pop and some are imap. I spent hours setting up all the addresses in mac mail only to find about 90% of the sent messages from one of the imap email addresses are missing (the most important adderss too!). The only ones in the sent folder are the ones sent using my iphone. Would I be correct in assuming all my sent message are no longer stored on my imap server? I can see them all if I use my old laptop so they must be lurking in a folder on that laptop somewhere. I've tried everything!! I tried deleting the mail folder from the library of my new laptop and the com.apple.mail.plist from the preferences. I then replaced them both with the ones on my old laptop... still the same problem. Any suggestions???

I've been using Mozilla Thunderbird on both Win PCs and Mac's for some time now and have no problems accessing both POP and IMAP accounts with it. I have 4 POP accounts and 2 IMAP accounts.
Switch to it from Windows Live Mail, which IMHO is just the pits, and then when I got my Mac and tried Mac Mail I said There has to be something better and found that Thunderbird also has a OS X version. So that is what I installed.
Been using it on Mac for almost 8 months now. No problems, at least none for me.

  • Mac mail problem with gmail smtp server

    I had 2 gmail addresses.
about 3 weeks ago mac mail decided to always send email from both addresses as if they originated from only one address.
I did not solve this problem.
For non related reasons, I got another gmail address.
    The same thing started happening.
I now had 3 gmail addresses, but recipients were receiving all email from only one address.
I went to email preferences and started exploring and experimenting.
I was able to reconfigure so that the new gmail address sends from its proper smtp address.
However, there is nothing I can do to get my second email address to send from its proper smtp.
For some inexplicable reason the dialogue box beside "Outgoing Mail Serve (SMTP): tells me that smpt server is offline.
I have no idea how to get it back online.
(In the server editor, there is one more gmail smtp server than I need, 4 instead of 3 and 2 are offline - one just went off tonight)
All relevant mail boxes are online.
Does anyone know anything about this problem?

    Jack,
There are mail forums in the forums for OS X, because you are using Leopard 10.5.6 (why haven't you upgraded to 10.5.8?) you should re-post in that forum. Mail comes as part of the OS that is why they're there. The address is:

  • Mac Mail problems using AOL

Having mail problems after updating to 10.9.2 using Mac mail with AOL....
Most everything I compose is being saved as a draft.  Sometimes several copies of the same mail.
When I put mail in the trash and delete them, they come back with up to 20 duplicates of the same message.
Anyone know of a fix for this?
    Thanks.

After 9 months with the  macbook pro and no problems watsoever, my AOL mail suddenly started having problems but not on my iPad or iPhone.  There's no doubt that the problem was intitated by a change made by Apple to the software on my computer.  As others have noted files with the email settings get scrambled.
The symptoms come and go,  sometimes closing the mail program and rebooting will cure the probems.   Apple recommends waiting 10 minutes ,  are you nuts?  Trip (with appointment ) to Santa Monica Apple store  and the tech was less than helpful , struggling under Apple's   work two customers for their allotted 15 min.
Sorry for ranting in tech space but one of the benefits of paying the premium for Apple products is that they work.  Apple we have a problem here, but you have a far larger problem .....  as a iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple stock owner I see the handwriting on the wall....

  • TS3276 Mac Mail Problem

    Hi Folks,
on my PowerBook (OS X 10.8) my Mac mail cant send and receive E-Mails from one day to the other. Nothing was changed; on other devices the accounts are still working with the same config data. Disabling firewall temporally cant fix the problem. Is there a repair option available? Should I use TM to recover?
    regards

Hi BDA, thanx for trying to help!
I have Mac mail on my PB G4. I had the problem resolved my getting rid of a Daemon as well as making more space on my hard drive that was almost maxed out at 11Gigs.
All that was slowing me down to the point of crawling even though my other comp the IBook had a download speed of +20mbs.
So all is well for now!
    Regards and thanx again.

  • Using Time Machine to "go back" before Mac Mail problem

My wife's Mac mail account stopped receiving email 3 days ago.  Attempts to fix it have been futile.  (It can send but not receive.  The activity monitor suggests that it is getting hung up on a particular email as it stalls at 13 out of 233.)  Considering using Time Machine to go back to just before the problem.  Questions: Is it possible to limit TM to (1) my wife's acct only or (2) Mail only?
My wife will definitely provide me a gruesome death if I lose her emails!
    Cheers,
    Nigel

Thanks, applefandan.  I just haven't used Time Machine quite enough to a gained confidence, but after a little bit of experimenting and a bit of Youtube coaching (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fes93NW_KE0) I went back to pre-problem, and had no trouble getting back the mail my wife had lost over the past several days.
Now on to the next problem! . . .

  • RoadRunner SMTP and Mac Mail problem

Hello all. I have set up my new iMac, and am attempting to get my RoadRunner email working. The inbound server (POP) works fine. I can receive email without a hitch. However, the outgoing server is not working, and I get an error message saying that I need to double check the password and username. I have verified with RoadRunner that my server addresses, username, and password are all correct. The RR webmail works fine sending/receiving. The issue seems to be with the Mac Mail program. Any ideas on how I can get it going? I am connected to the internet via my Airport Express wireless network if that matters. (And a RR Cable Modem.) Thank you for any help!

Road Runner SMTP mail is surprisingly difficult to get working with Apple Mail, even if you have all the values exactly correct. I had this issue at a client last week, and these are the instructions I followed to get it working. See the second post in the thread - it does have some confusing steps, so read the following posts too, which clarify them. Basically you're going to set up the account again, manually, but with no SMTP authentication.

    Hope that helps

  • Mac Mail problems...never seen before???

Mac Mail hangs, won't download all emails, and then won't fully quit...?~!
I just reinstalled the Bundled Software, but now I'll bet Mail isn't in that bunch, but comes with the System software. Oh, well...
    Any help...from any quarter?
    TIA
    Lanny

Did you just install the Software Update for Safari 4.0.1? This happened to me, same symptoms. Suddenly any time I tried to access my email Mail died a lingering death.
Try launching Safari, opening its Preferences, selecting Security, and unchecking "Warn when visiting a fraudulent website".
A serious bug and a serious and disappointing gap in QA before releasing such a vital component.

  • Intel Mac OSX - Mac mail problem

After reindexing mailboxes i'm now getting 5 or 6 duplicate emails. how do i stop this? thanks!

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • HT6030 Having major Mail problems since I updated Maverick on my 27" iMac. Delays deleting emails and moving emails to other folders. Anyone else having this issue? If so, any known fixes?

I have an iMac that around 3 years old. Just installed Mavericks when it first was released. I also have a Time Capsule (2TB) that runs my network to my other three Apple devices: iPad2, iPhone 5s and a new Apple TV. Having major Mail issues here. Everything is very delayed and extremely slow. Moving emails to other folders sometimes takes a few minutes and the same goes for deleting emails. Delete them and they don't go into the trash for several minutes. It's getting very frustrating to say the least. Mail also quits very often. Mail also will freeze with the little color ball spinning, therefore I would have to force quit Mail. When the errors occur, it's automatically sent to Apple but there hasn't been an update since 10.9.1 that has fixed it. Apparently, that update was only for gmail issues. Anyone having the same problem? Fixes please?

I have my entire network and all Apple devices setup as IMAP, not POP. If your settings are setup as a POP account on all devices, emails will not erase when deleted on your other devices. Just something to keep in mind. I'm sure you're aware of this but just wanted to throw it out there. Google IMAP vs POP. However, it seems like your having the same issues as I am. I'm going to swing by an Apple store by me and speak to the genius bar and see if they can come up with something or are aware of this issue. Keep you posted.

  • Mail Problems since updating to Maverick 10.9.1

My Macmail on all my Apple devices no longer works since updating yesterday to Maverick 10.9.1. I have restarted, deactivated and reinstalled gmail via Macmail on all my devices (Macbook Pro, iPod 5, iPad and iPhone 5s). On my mobile devices the "Checking for mail wheel" just keeps spinning and spinning. On my Macbook I can't even get through the initial sign-in stage before an "unknown error" pops up. I have enadbled via Gmail the IMAP and POP. Nothing works. Anyone have a similar problem, hear anything about this problem or have a fix? Thanks for your help!

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website.

  • Mail problems since latest OSX mountain lion update

Since I updated to the latest version of OSX Mountain Lion my Macbook Pro is very slow starting (up to 2 minutes) and my mail program is always stucking (colour-ball turning) so that I have to shut down and restart.
Does anybody have a solution for these problems?
    Thanks!

So it's a new 2012 non-Retina model... there are a couple of things that you might want to try - even with only 4GB of RAM (and I truly feel that 8GB is the 'sweet spot' for any modern MBP) you should be having slow startup or Mail beachballs.
First, let's boot into Recovery mode by holding down the Command and R keys during startup. At the bottom of the window, you'll want to open Disk Utility. Select your hard drive from the left pane and verify and then repair permissions. Some won't be 'fixed' but that's OK. Then with the hard drive still selected, verify your hard drive. If any errors pop up, go ahead and repair the hard drive.
If neither of these things fix the problem, you might want to redownload and reinstall 10.8.2, using the 'combo' updater found here. Also make certain that you install (or reinstall) the 10.8.2 supplemental update - here.
And if that doesn't work, we'll just have to dig a little deeper.
    Clinton
