Mac Mail question - [Bulk]

Why do some of my emails come in as [Bulk] mail? They are from someone I know, and not from a website or company.

Hello,
But you can setup iCloud email on you old Mac!
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
• Server name: imap.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 993
• Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
• Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 587
• SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
• Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • Compare Entourage v Mac Mail Question

In MS Entourage's address book, you can assign a category to a name and color code it. Then names appear in their assigned color you can sort by category. This gives me a fast way to pick out or sort specific groups.
I've been using Entourage and would like to switch to mail, but this feature in Entourage is very important to the way I work and keep track of groups.
Color coding also appears in the message list in mail. I can the quickly see if a rule has not worked or if it inadvertently placed the message in the wrong mailbox.
Am I overlooking something in Mail that will let me do the same or similar action.

    Hi Robin,
That's the way it is on y 10.5.8 Mac, only boxes in the "On My Mac" section are ones I created that don't exist elsewhere.

  • Mac Mail question.

Hi, I am not sure this belongs in this discussion, if not I apologize for the incorrect post
I was wondering if anyone knows of an app or plugin type of program that will display the number of unread emails in teh dock/toolbar as outlook for windows does? It gets to be a pain always having to move my mouse down to the dock for the icons to pop up and to see if there is a little red circle in the mail icon that tells me how many messages I have to read. I also liked the quick notifier feature that outlook offers, I am using Herald 1.3.2, which is nice notifier and has plenty of custom features.
but the one thing that would be really nice is to always have that little reminder in the dock (or toolbar like windows offers) that tells you how many unread emails you have waiting for you. I could leave the dock up and not have it slide down, but I dont want to give up that screen space for that simple notification.
thanks for any information.. I hope that question makes sense and there is something out there, or maybe there is a setting I have missed in mail.app.
    Chris

Try moving the dock to the right side of the screen, and make it small-ish.  You won't miss the screen space over there very much, most likely, and then the badge will remain visible.  If that's not a satisfactory solution, I'm sure there's a third-party solution for showing your unread mail count, but I don't know what that might be.

  • Really simple Mac Mail question about the Delete button

When at a message, the Edit menu shows Command+Delete as being the proper keystroke for deleting a message.
Just pressing Delete also removes it from the Inbox.
What is different between that and Command+Delete?
    Thanks,
    doug

    Hi,
I don't have a very good answer to you other than the fact that the Macbook does not have a proper DELETE-button.  You delete by pressing cmd/backspace.
If you want to delete something through Finder you have to press cmd/backspace.  In orher programs, like Mail, you can delete by pressing only backspace.  In iPhoto you can delete pictures by presing backspace and conform with return.
The reason for these different solutins are not known to me...

  • Password issues with Mac Mail-help!

I created a new email account through my internet provider (Comcast) and I can no longer access my email although it is showing up on webmail. The comcast person said I would probably have to change my password. I tried doing this on Mac Mail but there doesn't appear to be the usual place to type in new password and then confirm. I am not sure what password they are asking for. The mail account was set up so long ago that I have never used any password when checking my account. I also notice if I delete the password, the password dots are back when I open preferences up again. I don't understand this and Comcast will not help with Mac Mail questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said you never used a password when checking you mail. You must have a password on the account, I don't see how you couldn't.
When you go to www.comcast.net and go to the webmail client, you must enter your username and password in order to get your messages. It's this username & password that Apple Mail requires in order to access your email.
If you want/need to change your password, you can do this at www.comcast.net from within the webmail client. When you are at your inbox on the webclient, on the left side of the screen there is a link for "Preferences". Clicking that will take you to another page and one of the options is "Change Your Password". That's where you would go to change your password for that specific email account.
    Good luck,
    Bronson

  • Probably incredibly simple question, so sorry. I have just changed e-mail after many many years and I want to e-mail everyone in my mac mail client with the new e-mail address at the same time.

Probably incredibly simple question, so sorry. I have just changed e-mail after many many years and I want to e-mail everyone in my mac mail client with the new e-mail address at the same time.

If you are using Address Book, open it, create a new Group, select all you contacts by click the top one while holding down the shift key and then select the last one. Drag the contacts to the group, then send an e-mail to the group.

  • Dumb question Mac Mail inbox synchronisation

I'm really sorry if this is a dumb question...I have just started using Mac Mail (from Entourage) with a .Mac account and want to synchronise my messages across my two Macs. I thought that if I deleted messages on one mac, they would be deleted from the server and when I checked mail on the other Mac they would be gone. However, this does not seem to be the case - instead, I need to delete them on both macs. Is something in my setup wrong?
    Thanks for any help

I haven't....are you saying you think I should? Funnily enough, after never having had a problem before, I had a problem syncing my bookmarks yesterday, so maybe I should resetting the SyncServices.
Also, on the .Mac preferences - does it matter if the syncing schedule is set to be automatic, every hour, manual etc? Previously I had it set as manual, but maybe I need to set it as automatic?
Thanks again so much for your help.

  • Mac Mail with Yahoo address Question

I have several email accounts, yahoo, hotmail, etc set through mac mail. I have all the boxes checked to preserve the message from
the beginning. I have one client whom I email frequently back and forth with and I was just recently told that they cannot see the
message string that it is cutting off my original message. Can anyone help me with what is going on. I have tested it between my emails
and I can see verything fine. I have also went into Yahoo and chnaged settings and still nothing. I have a feeling it is something on their end
but not sure. Any help is appreciated.

Honestly, this does sound like something on their end.  Send an email from your account in question to another person (say your parents, spouse, etc.) and see if they notice the same problem.

  • Search Question for Lion Mac Mail

In recent weeks, I've figured out most of the thorny issues with Lion Mac Mail, but maybe someone can help me with this one:
When I search "Sent Mail', the results come back with my name showcased in bold (which serves no purpose, I mean I'm searching from my Sent folder, so we can assume they're all from me). In earlier versions, however, the name of the recipient would be showcased. Much more useful.
Let me give you an example. I'm trying to find emails where I mentioned a Golden Spatula. I know I wrote to several people about this sacred utensil. Okay, in the past, the search engine would list all the emails where this term arises, and they would be distinguished by who I sent them to.
Now, I see a list of all the emails, but my name in bold is the only term I can quickly peruse.
Know what I'm talking about? Any suggestions?
    Thanks.....T

If no one answers here please post in the Lion Forum forum, because Mail is considered part of OS X that is good place to look too. Also look to your right under More Like This to see if there are any answers there.

  • Question about importing from mac mail to folder in address book

Is it possible to place imported email addresses (Mac email) into specific folder(s) in Address Book rather than into just the All Folder.? For example, I have several business addresses that I want to import from Mac Mail automatically into my Business Folder and several others that I want to go into Friends Folder. Can this be done? If so how? Thanks
iMac Intel Duo 20" Mac OS X (10.4.10)
      Mac OS X (10.3.7)

The Address Book database is similar to the iTunes database and iPhoto database.
If you use iTunes then you know you can't place a song in a playlist without the song being in the primary iTunes database first and the same with iPhoto. You can't place a photo in an album with the photo being in the main iPhoto library first.
The same with Address Book. You can't place a contact in an Address Book group without the contract being in the primary Address Book "All" Group and I'm not aware of a way to place a contact in the primary All group and in a designated group at the same time.

  • .mac/apple mail question

My .mac mail is no longer appearing in the desktop mail app. Cannot send or receive and folders have disappeared. Have not changed anything that I am aware of. My other account is fine. .mac mail comes in fine on iphone and ipad. When using my laptop I can get to it and send from the icould site. What would have caused this/how can I get it back? It is still listed as an account in mail preferences. Thanks.

So, I just did the above (deleted my account). Now, it won't let me set it up again, I get this message:
"Logging in to the MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages."
I tried the 2 passwords I might have originally used, neither work. I was just now able to add in my gmail account with no problem. I got continual messages the other day about passwords (asking for the password and saying it had been rejected by the mail.me.com server) out of nowhere, I hadn't gotten that before. THe same 2 passwords I tried just now, did not work then either. THen the account just went away.

  • My question actually has to do with mac mail. someone has corrupted it, and is using it to send out emails, which keep getting rejected. some of the strangest address's and so forth. anyone else had this problem? where and what can I do about it.

my mac mail is corrupted or being infiltrated. emails are being sent to whomever and where ever. the recipients are not from my known contacts list, and these emails are also being rejected.  where can I report this problem to, specifically what can I do about it.

Thinking about it, ClamX will find Windows as well as Mac malware. This might not have been a Mac trojan. Here's a list of recent Mac malware in the ClamX catalog.

  • Mac Mail collaboration question

Hi, myself and a colleague have both step Mac Mail to receive emails from a business email address (IMAP). Everything's working fine and emails appear in both our inboxes as expected. I'm very organised and like to keep my inbox as clean as possible so tend to frequently drag mail from my inbox to folders on my iCloud account to keep things tidy. The problem is that that email then disappears from my colleague's inbox on their machine.
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem hoping that there might be some kind of archival process whereby all emails could be put in a folder that we both had access to so that it didn't matter that emails disappeared from my colleague's inbox as the folder would contain a complete history of all mail sent and received from that account (I hope that makes sense).
    Any bright ideas out there???

Thanks Eric that might work but I was hoping for something a little more 'elegant' rather than having to manually export mail every time a message arrives in the inbox.
I setup a new iCloud account thinking that i could share the password and then I could just drag messages into iCloud folders as I do at the moment with my personal iCloud account but that doesn't seem to work as it just gives me a new entry in the Mailboxes section of Mail. Is it possible to have multiple iCloud accounts displayed underneath my mailboxes???
    Thanks

  • Mac Mail Importing Question

First, I could not find a better place for this topic as it is not a covered application on the forum, so I thought I would start here.
I set up one of my email accounts using Mac Mail.  I then imported the mail from Thunderbird over, but it will not load into the email account.  It shows as a separate folder under "on my mac"  I would like my sent emails from Thunderbird to be in the new Mac Mail email account.  I have tried dragging the "sent" email folder to the new Mac Mail acount, but it will not do it. I have tried several importing options, but to no avail.
Below is a screen shot of the what I am talking about and trying to accomplish.  I would like the "send" folder next to the red arrow to be move the folder where the green arrow is (green arrow is a little off, should point to "sent" folder.  How do I do this???  Thank you in advance for any assistance.

    Adam,
Thank you for the suggestion and quick response, I did try that multiple times and just couldn't get them to move.  After walking away from the issue for a couple of hours, I did figure out the answer.  Perhaps it's a Lion issue, who knows.
What I did was click the folder for the imported "sent" mail folder, clicked Edit, Select All and then clicked on the "sent" folder under the new email account and clicked Edit again and then Paste and miraculously they all moved over.
    Thanks again!
