Mac Mail setup pop, imap....etc Server Settings

Is there a list or spreadsheet showing all the mail service providers server settings?? I can setup .Mac, AOL. but in the case of Yahoo,, Earthlink, Gmail, Verizon etc. I can never get them to work. I've been through the setup assistant and doesn't help. I really dig the Mail app. but I have other email accounts that I'd like to bring em' to Mail app.
I work in legit theater and we're 95% mac and less then half use the mail app. for this problem.
I can never find server settings on their sites. If there was a list somewhere it would be helpful. Its easy enough to setup mail manually.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Andrew

For Gmail, you first need to enable POP access on the Gmail server.
For Earthlink, follow these instructions.
The server settings are usually on the ISP's site, if you search their support for "POP", "SERVER", "EMAIL" etc, you should be able to find it. There are a lot of servers, especially with the major ISPs that may run a different server for every geographic region they serve.- As an example, those Earthlink instructions are dependent on your email address.
If you still have trouble finding the server settings for a particular ISP, give them a call or send someone at their support an email.

What is your email provider (e.g Gmail, Microsoft, Yahoo, Comcast, AT&T, etc...), and what email client software are you using (Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc)?
It's likely far easier to just Google the correct settings for your mail provider and recreate the outgoing (SMTP) settings.

  • Mac Mail and POP Servers

I recently switched from pc to mac. My old MS Outlook program deleted messages from my pop server when i checked for mail and downloaded them. Mac Mail does not appear to be doing this. Is there any way to set it up so that this happens automatically when i hit the 'get mail' button?

    Hello Peter.
I think what Matt suggests only works for POP3 accounts
True and the same with a POP type account with any email client.
on my .mac account the only options seem to be whether to download
    it to the computer.
A .Mac type account is really an IMAP type account and behaves in the same way. This is beneficial when accessing the account with an email client on a different computer being able to keep the account's Inbox mailbox and any other server stored mailboxes synchronized with the server with both email clients.
With the Mail.app, you can create a .Mac account as a .Mac type (by default) or as an IMAP or POP type account.
With other email clients you can create a .Mac account as an IMAP or POP type account.
If you want to change the account type from .Mac to POP with the Mail.app, you must delete and re-create the account choosing POP as the account type.
Doing so will delete all locally stored messages in the account's Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes so before deleting and re-creating the account you must do the following.
Create/utilize "On My Mac" location mailboxes creating one for the account's Sent mailbox and another if you have any Drafts you want to save. No need to create additional mailboxes for messages located in the account's Trash or Junk mailbox unless you want to save these messages.
Transfer all messages from the account's Sent mailbox to the user created "On My Mac" location mailbox designated for the account's Sent messages.
Delete and re-create the account selecting POP as the account type. Any received messages that remain on the server when deleting the account will not be lost and will be downloaded by the Mail.app. Select the settings for removing messages from the server under the Advanced tab for the account preferences.

  • Mac Mail setup instructions incorrect

The instructions for setting up a BT mail account in Mac Mail are wrong. It says that the account should be a POP account and that the check box to set up automatically should be unchecked. Well, there is no checkbox (on my Mac, anyway) and the account gets set up automatically as an IMAP account with totally different settings to those shown in the setup guide. Never-the-less, it all works perfectly so there is no problem. I just thought you all should know.

  • Mac Mail Setup

I'm setting up a Mail account on my new Mac Mini (Lion).  I've set up everything like the Mail account on my original Mac, but I've got 3 problems:
1- The Incoming Mail Server setup box refuses to save the password I type in, even though I hit Save after I type it in.
2- I've set up the signatire correctly, but I doesn't show up on new emails.  The "chose signalture" option on the signature setup pane is always greyed out.
3- When I retreive emails from the server on my iPhone, and then on my Mac the email stays on my iPhone.

It's probably best to ask your Exchange support administrator for the correct EWS settings for your scenario.
Here are some guides for rackspace hosted email, but they might give you some hints:

  • Mac Mail and AOL IMAP

Recently it seems that my Mac mail program cannot connect to the AOL Imap server.  When I do the connectivity test in mail, the little ball is red.  Has anyone else noticed this?
Before you tell me to go ask AOL, I have already scoured the AOL help sites, and as of yet have not found an official AOL forum, which is why I am posting this here, as it is also a Mac related issue.

Please verify that you are adhering to these settings.

  • Access Microsoft Outlook WebAccess through Mail (No POP/IMAP addresses)

Hi--I would like to use Mac OS X's Mail to download my mail from a Microsoft Exchange server. I do NOT have any pop/smtp/imap servers...Microsoft's Entourage has a built-in feature to download emails directly from the Internet using the "https://mail.mydomain.com/exchange" URL. I've tested it, and it works with my username and password.
Supposedly there is not a way to do this with Mail since I do not have actual servers, only a webaddress. Can anyone advice me, or point me in the correct direction? Plug-in? Thank you!

Also, by default exchange server 2003 only allows relaying from microsoft products... see this comment froma a Microsoft tech document on enabling IMAP:
By default, Exchange allows relaying only from authenticated clients. It is recommended that you keep this default. Clients such as Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 and Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2003, and previous versions of Outlook Express and Outlook support SMTP authentication in addition to Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption."

  • Duplicate Emails in Mac Mail with two IMAP Accounts

I have all my email accounts running through Mac Mail (v 4.5).
Recently I added a work IMAP account in addition to my Gmail and another personal account. Since I did so, every time an email comes to the work account, a duplicate gets sent to my Gmail. No idea why, and it didn't start until I brought everything into Mac Mail.
I've tried re-adding the work account as a POP (just as an experiment) and the same thing happened. And again when I brought the work account back a third time as an IMAP.
Any assistance would be a big help.
    Thanks.

I'm having similar difficulties.  Mac Mail has been seriously disrupted with upgrading to Mavericks.

  • All sub-folders in Mac Mail cannot synchronize with Exchange Server 2010

    Hi all,
All sub-folders under Inbox in Mac Mail cannot be synchronized with Exchange Server 2010. There are 2GB messages size in Inbox folder and 500MB messages size under Inbox's sub-folders. All messages can be sent out and received and it can work in Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 normally. However, all messages in sub-folders cannot be synchronized (empty sub-folders).
Does this problem relate to message synchronization order of Mac Mail with Exchange Server? Do all sub-folders messages be synchronized after synchronization complete of Inbox? The synchronization of sub-folders will not happen if the synchronization of Inbox does not complete, doesn't it?
All messages synchronization is over internet. Can anybody help?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
1.please check the mailbox send and receive quota for exchange 2013 migrated mailbox.
2.Please check the email attributes of the exchange 2013 migrated mailbox because it seems to be a problem with that particular mailbox.
3.Then do the message tracking and that would be the only way to find the where the send messages has gone.
4.Please check and confirm you have an enough space on the disk where exchange queue database is residing.
I think I need to create a receive connector in the 2013 to receive from 2010 ?
No need ,by design  exchange 2013 cas server default frontend receive connector will be having an
entire ipv4 and ipv6 segment and anonymous connection is checked by default.
I think I also need to create a send and receive connector for 2013 users to each other?
No need , an intra organisation send connector and the default receive connectors in exchange will be used
for internal mail flow between the exchange 2013 users.
Please reply me if you have any queries .

  • Mountain Lion / Mac mail disconnects from MS Exchange server.

We use an MS Exchange account for our company email. We bought 2 new retina display MacBook Pros running Mountain Lion last Fall. My old laptop is still running Lion. Lion / Mac Mail works fine on the old laptop, never losing contact with the MS Exchange server. Mountain Lion / Mac Mail randomly loses contact with our exchange server on a regular basis. This results in a slow and painful re-download of 2 years worth of email while I have to resort to my old laptop to keep up with new incoming email. I check these discussions occasionally when I can find a spare moment and I have found some similar symptoms being complained about, but no solutions yet. There have been a couple of OS updates since we bought the new laptops, but alas, no mention of this problem. It seems no one is doing anything about it. Have I missed a post? Anyone have any suggestions? This is getting really old.
    Thanks!
    D

I was having the same issue! I finally found a solution to it!
    1. Delete your exchange account from the Mail, Contacts & Calendars pane in System Preferences.
    2. Go to Finder, click "Go" in the menu bar, click "Go to Folder" and type in "~/Library" (without the quotes) in the box. This will take you to your user Library folder.
    3. Use the search box in the finder and type in "com.apple.notes" and click "Library" in the search bar that appears. This should now find several folders and files related to the Notes app. Rename or delete everything except the help files (with the lifesaver icons on them). Just to be safe, I'll list the files and folders you should delete or rename and their directory paths:
    com.apple.Notes - /Users/danieloria/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/
    com.apple.Notes - /Users/danieloria/Library/Containers
    com.apple.Notes.plist - /Users/danieloria/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Preferences
    com.apple.Notes.savedState - /Users/danieloria/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Saved
    4. Restart your Mac. Put your exchange account back into System Preferences, you can go ahead and activate the Notes sync service.
    5. Open Notes and it should be working now!
NOTE: I also deleted all the stored information related to the exchange account in Keychain Access when I deleted the 4 com.apple files. This may or may not be necessary, but I just thought it was worth mentioning.

  • Mac Mail, iPhone, Edge versus WiFi (Corporate Settings)

I have Mac mail set up fine on the iPhone it works O.K. on Edge at the usual AT&T speed, but I am seeing issues when trying to access the web and Mac Mail through my work's WiFi network.
They offer a "public access" (this is a hospital), that when you access WiFi with the web-browser it passes you by a couple of agreement pages (it's a securlogin.arubanetwork.com address). It warns that the speed is throttled down to 0.5 Mb/second, the session expires after 8 hours and access is restricted to HTTP and HTTPS protocols but you can use VPN to tunnel to your home network.
If I acess through WiFi (it asks for an e-mail address) using the web-browser, then web access to Mac Mail and to web-pages are ok, the WiFi triangle is 3-4 bars and the speed is "good". However if I do this work WiFi web-access through the browser and then turn-around and access the Mail app on the iPhone and Mac Mail off that, then the WiFi "triangle" drops right down to the bottom line and "Checking for Mail" goes on-and-on (both at the top of the screen and the footer of the screen) ultimately nothing appears to update. I've checked against Mac Mail via a PC and confirmed that there are changes, but they do not come over under this mode. If I switch WiFi off and then check mail using Edge, the changes come right on through.
I am guessing that the work WiFi is the stumbling block, that even using the Mail app on the iPhone it is trying to reverify that web-access. Anyone got any ideas of any settings that I could use on the iPhone that may allow my to get speedy access from Mail through this WiFi process asking for a verified logon? Thanks.

    Malcolm Barnes,
If they are limiting access to just VPN, HTTP and HTTPS, then Mail.app won't be able to access the .Mac mailbox, but may try and retry a few different approaches to accessing the mailbox to work around that stumbling block. Working with just .5 MB, that could consume a good portion of your individually available bandwidth.
At that point, I suspect your network may start trying to block you, until you can make a new connection, because you are using ports that aren't allowed. (25, 143, 587 and/or 993).
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Mac mail: Use SSL on SMTP Server turning on

I recently received and set up a new macbook pro (OSX 10.8.3) and I use it in both a wireless and wired network state.
I set up some POP accounts in my mac mail, and everything works great.  But it seems that whenever I switch between networks, the "Use SSL" checkbox in my SMTP account for the mail magically turns on (I say "seems" because it could be some other factor such as actually changing to a completely different network location).  At this point I can send out no new mails.  I tracked this down fairly quickly, and annoying as it is, it *appears* at first glance to have a simple solution, go in and uncheck the box every time.  However, the frustrating thing is, as soon as this occurs, I can't get the unchecked box to save. I'll go in, uncheck it, close it down, mail still won't send, and when I go back in I find it's still happily checked as "Use SSL".
The only way I've found to solve this problem so far is to delete the SMTP account, and then create a brand new one with the option unchecked.  But having to do this every time I switch networks is ridiculous!
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what's going on or how I can *permanently* resolve this issue rather than resetting up my SMTP account over and over.

This seems to be a bug in 10.8.3. I submitted a bugreport and Apple replied this was a 'known bug'. Hope they fix it rather soon.

  • Mac mail problem with gmail smtp server

    I had 2 gmail addresses.
about 3 weeks ago mac mail decided to always send email from both addresses as if they originated from only one address.
I did not solve this problem.
For non related reasons, I got another gmail address.
    The same thing started happening.
I now had 3 gmail addresses, but recipients were receiving all email from only one address.
I went to email preferences and started exploring and experimenting.
I was able to reconfigure so that the new gmail address sends from its proper smtp address.
However, there is nothing I can do to get my second email address to send from its proper smtp.
For some inexplicable reason the dialogue box beside "Outgoing Mail Serve (SMTP): tells me that smpt server is offline.
I have no idea how to get it back online.
(In the server editor, there is one more gmail smtp server than I need, 4 instead of 3 and 2 are offline - one just went off tonight)
All relevant mail boxes are online.
Does anyone know anything about this problem?

    Jack,
There are mail forums in the forums for OS X, because you are using Leopard 10.5.6 (why haven't you upgraded to 10.5.8?) you should re-post in that forum. Mail comes as part of the OS that is why they're there. The address is:
