Mac mail: slow reply button

Help!
I literrally make a living from my mac mail. It has many improvements, but when I click on REPLY on my inbox to any email, it takes 2-5 seconds, and sometimes I see the dreaded colorful ball and my comptuer doesn't work while this happens.
Thank you!

Keato..
You are not the only one completely perplexed by this issue. I have been working with Apple for more than 3 months to try and resolve the issue with little luck.
My normal speed is right around 90-100 Mbits with Mail running it's 27-29 Mbits.
The only thing I haven't done recently was to reset Mail and rebuild all my accounts and database to see if that resolves the issue.
I'll keep in touch,
David

  • Mac Mail - Compose, Reply, Forward not working

    Hi there
Running MacOS 10.7.2 - since this morning my Mac Mail will not allow me to Compose new mail (I click on the button but nothing happens), ditto for Reply or Forward. I checked console and this is what I get every time I try to do any of the above...

  • Mac Mail slow to sync after upgrade Yosemite 10.10.2 and OS X Server 4.0.3

We have deployed server OS X Server 4.0.3 and all client computer configured with DNS, Open Directory and Mail Server of OS X Server 4.0.3. It is quick to deliver mail before upgrade. And it is quick to deliver mail from iOS now. But it too slow to use Mac Mail. Even send to myself from intranet it costs 3 mins.

I have no solution but have experienced failing sync settings (quite often) in both 10.6 Server and 10.9 + Server 3 (upgraded from 10.6 Server) in the same way as you described, it syncs too much. We have given up on synched home folders and will cut them and use other backup methods since we’re not so dependant on switching between different devices. Our users usually have one computer, one iPhone, one iPad and stay with those until it’s time to exchange them.

  • Osx mac mail cant reply or start new message, but stores as unworkable drafts

osx mac mail suddenly cant reply or start new message, but stores as unworkable drafts
Dont think I did anything to provoke this, can still access on server sites, but heh I'm used to to mac mail

As per usual, I spend days working on a problem, finally give up and post to the discussion groups, THEN find the solution. It was the Signature file. It had either become corrupt (it contains graphics) or the bug fixes in 10.5.5 didn't like it. Either way, removed the sig file and everything works great again! Thanks!

  • Inbox Problems - Mac Mail Slow due to too many messages (45,000+)???

I have more than 75.000 messages in Mac Mail (mobile me). I need all these messages and constantly refer to them - they stretch back several years. I use the search system in mail to locate the one I need, when I need it etc.
Recently I have noticed that mail is getting slow to download new messages. I have been watching the activity window and see that mail seems like it checks each message for flags/changes before downloading new mail.
I am running several Macs in several locations and need all my mail to be available on all machines - hence i se IMAP not POP3.
I am wondering if I can speed things up by moving and sorting the 45,000 messages in my inbox to folders etc. Yes? No?
Also, if I create folders, I assume that I should create these on Mobile Me (not 'on my mac')?
    Thanks for any advice!
Message was edited by: Nick Syrett

I think that sorting them out to folders on the server would help this.
In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced what is your selection with regard to Keep copies of messages (and attachments) for Offline viewing?

  • Mac Mail slows other apps when first opened...

When I open Mac Mail on OS 10.4 it seems to hog the process time and other apps are affected. I do have about 7 e-mail accounts that I have connection to, like gmail, office mail, etc.
    Powerbook G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It shouldn't hog 100% of the process time but with 7 email accounts and if each account is set up to be automatically checked for new mail, the incoming mail server is checked for each account, the spam filter checks each received message along with any other rules created in Mail including sorting for any Smart Mailboxes. If any of the 7 email accounts is an IMAP type account, all server stored messages/mailboxes are also synchronized with the server so quite a bit of activity is going on with the Mail.app when first launched over and above the activity when launched and running.
Do you quit and re-launch the Mail.app often during a normal work day? I generally keep the Mail.app launched and running 24/7 so I haven't noticed the same.

  • How do i auto reply on Mac Mail 3.6?

Hello helpers. I'm running Mail 3.6 (old - I'm due to get new Mac soon). How do I set a Rule to auto-reply telling people I'm away, please? Last time I tried it, it was a disaster - resending old msgs out to 100s of people. Thanks, any help really appreciated.

  • Mac Mail Button Funtions Not Working; "Reply, Forward, New"?

    Problem:
Recently the buttons in my Mail program seemed to have stopped working. My "Get Mail" button works properly and retrieves mail as it should. However, I cannot "Reply, Forward, or compose a "New" message. The buttons change color as I hover over them and click on them but nothing happens. Has anyone experienced this problem before or aware of any possible fixes?
I get a console error as follows upon clicking on the "New" mail button:
    2010-06-12 23:09:44.761 Mail[443] * -[NSKeyedUnarchiver initForReadingWithData:]: incomprehensible archive (0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)
    KNOWNS:
I am not aware of making any changes that could have effected this functionality. I have tried numerous fixes:
    Disk Utility: repaired permissions
    AppleJack AUTO: system clean
    plist file: moved to desktop
accounts: tried deleting and creating fresh email accounts in preferences
    file scan: viruses etc
users: logged in as a different user (no luck)
I have googled around and looked through the forums with no luck as of yet. I found info on possibly downloading 3rd party software and installing ONLY the MAIL program from the OS install disk as a re-install but was holding out on this as a last resort; unless it is the only option as of now.
I want to say I remember this happening either to myself or on my brothers computer; where a certain attachment in an email was glitching the mail program; but I cannot remember exactly if this was the problem. I searched through my emails around the time of this issue but didn't find anything out of the ordinary as far as attachments.
I have been using Thunderbird which is working alright but I do like my Apple Mail. And I get annoyed when I can find a fix for something in particular. I'd like to get my system back to normal.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    MG

Hi MG, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Are you running any Mail add-ons, or 3rd party System add-ons?

  • "Reply" button shuts down Mail

All of a sudden, when I try to reply, the program hesitates a few seconds and then shuts down Mail. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it? I don't get an error message. I have tried the various ways to make the program reply. All of the reply buttons and commands do the same thing.

I also run into same problem.
When I hit Reply/Compose/Forward, mail crashed.
I have emptied /Library/mail and move out com.apple.mail.plist but seems no help.

  • Mac mail - can't type message and reply not working.

mac mail working fine until today. Tried to set up a new message. Added address okay, put in subject okay but when I came to type text into main panel I get about three letters typed and the curser vanishes and I get an alert sound. And that's the way it stays.
Tried reboots and all the usual tricks.
Also trying to reply to an email does not work
Everything else appears alright. Incoming mail is okay.
Can anybody help me out here? Desparately need to be back online.

This problem in Mail is usually caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services -- the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, this other article provides links to some utilities that can be used for troubleshooting and cache cleaning:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
It seems that the most appropriate utility for solving this particular problem is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Click Maintenance. In the Reset section, check LaunchServices database.
    4. You may uncheck any other pre-checked options if you wish.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.

  • When I hit reply on the .Mac Mail site, an incorrect address is generatedW

When I'm using the mail program on the Internet .mac site, and hit reply to respond to a letter I received, inevitably the automatic address generated by the program won't function. The reply button puts the person's name and then e-mail address in brackets on the address line. When I hit the command to send, I receive a message that the address is not a valid e-mail address. Then I have to go back and erase the name and remove the brackets-then I am able to send the e-mail. Is everyone having this problem with mail on the .Mac site? I mean I am not typing in the e-mail address incorrectly. The program generates the return e-mail address when I hit reply and it is always incorrect because it puts the person's name as part of the e-mail. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks
    Jim Lindsey

    Hi,
This happens to me when the person's name you are
replying to contains a comma and webmail tries to
    send it to two people.
eg if a mail comes from SURNAME, FORENAME
    <[email protected]> then I will get an
error as the program thinks that SURNAME is an
    invalid address
but I get an error message every time. It brings up the person's name followed by the email address in brackets. Then when I try to send, I get the message that this is not a valid address. Is this happening with everyone on .Mac site? Surely not or they would fix it.

  • Very Slow POP3 access in Mac Mail

    Hello All,
I have found that downloading email via POP3 is extremely slow compared with IMAP for MAC Mail.
I received my new imac a few days ago and have being trying to setup my mail account with Mac Mail (I've updated the system software to the latest).
When I tried the Mac mail application with my Gmail account via POP3; it was extremely slow to download emails (10 to 20 seconds for each email to download). Plus when I sent an email to myself, checked that I had received it in the gmail web interface, and then did a 'get mail' in Mac Mail, the email didn't appear!
So I switched to IMAP and found that it downloaded much quicker (several emails a second) and I can send/receive emails with no delays.
While this problem is solved for me, my wife uses yahoo mail, which doesn't support IMAP!
Has anyone found this problem with their pop3 email accounts? I've also found that the pop3 seems to download multiple copies of the same emails.
As you can imagine: this is so frustrating, email is such a basic feature that I would have expected it to work straight out of the box. Anyway, so much for buying a new mac and expecting a smooth experience (unlike the problems I was having with windows)
Does anyone know how to fix this??
    Cheers,
    Don
P.S. Apologies for the rant! Besides this email issue, I am very impressed with Mac OS X

Try resetting some of the hardware involved (PRAM~NVRAM). See this Apple KB for details, etc.:

Can't hurt to try, and apparently this has helped others recently.

Trouble with slow Macbook Air. I have first generation MacBook Air and have a hard time keeping hard drive from being full. After trashing many docs, I have almost 5 gigs available, but mac is slow and I keep getting color wheel when I use Mail. I'd like to install Lion, but now I'm afraid it will slow down my machine even further. Do I have enough free hard disc space? Is Mail problem related to free hard disc space? Thanks for your help!

7gb of free disc space is required to install Lion.  Read this about how to free up disc space: http://pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html.  Also, advice on how to speed up your mac: http://www.maclife.com/article/feature/25_ways_speed_your_mac

  • Mac mail keeps sending emails from different accounts even though it says correct email in "sent" folder. Recipients reply and it goes to different email address. So confusing.

mac mail keeps sending emails from my different accounts even though it says correct email in "sent" folder and correct email account was highlighted. Recipients reply and it goes to different email address. So confusing and annoying.

    Hi Mike,
I had the same issue and managed to solve it.
    Go into Mail>Preferences>Accounts
Then in the account information tab, at the bottom should be outgoing mail server (SMTP) and click the drop down box
Mine had a few different servers in it so i went into edit SMPT server list. Click advanced and it will tell you which ones are going from which email address.
Delete the ones you dont want, and it should work or instead of deleting click use only this server, i imagine that will work to
    Hope This Helps
