Mac Mail slows other apps when first opened...
When I open Mac Mail on OS 10.4 it seems to hog the process time and other apps are affected. I do have about 7 e-mail accounts that I have connection to, like gmail, office mail, etc.
Powerbook G4 12" Mac OS X (10.4.8)
It shouldn't hog 100% of the process time but with 7 email accounts and if each account is set up to be automatically checked for new mail, the incoming mail server is checked for each account, the spam filter checks each received message along with any other rules created in Mail including sorting for any Smart Mailboxes. If any of the 7 email accounts is an IMAP type account, all server stored messages/mailboxes are also synchronized with the server so quite a bit of activity is going on with the Mail.app when first launched over and above the activity when launched and running.
Do you quit and re-launch the Mail.app often during a normal work day? I generally keep the Mail.app launched and running 24/7 so I haven't noticed the same.

No acute accent in other apps when Netscape open
This post in the AppleWorks board hasn't had a solution. Perhaps some of the OS9 gurus here could take a look at the problem for the poster:

GUI = Graphic User Interface. GUI enjancers are programs that change the way the Mac's normal GUI works, usually by adding features, changing the appearance, etc.
There are many GUI enhancers, such as Kaleidoscope, the various Action utilities, BeHierarchic, many others - even ATM (Adobe Type Manager) can be considered one, though most folk think of it as a necessity rather than an add-on.
One of them, Default Folder I think, among other things added the ability to add keyboard commands to menu items in any program.
By "dumb-simple" I meant the method of adding or removing an added keyboard command to a menu item was extremely easy and non-complex - so intuitive it was dumb.
I would look carefully through all the menu items for Netscape, looking for Option-e to the right of one of the items in each menu. It may appear as an E preceded by a symbol other than the usual Command-key (cloverleaf) symbol.
If you find it, try highlighting it with the mouse (don't click it), and while it is highlighted press the Delete or Clear key. -
Links from within Firefox windows open new tab, but links within Mail, MSWord, and other apps attempt to open another copy of Firefox, and I get the "Close Firefox: A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time." This just started happening less than a week ago. I don't know when FF updated to version 22.0.
My problem seems to be fixed--I cannot reproduce it now, though it had been consistently happening for the past 3-4 days. The suggestions above do not seem to apply in any case: I do not want to open another instance of Firefox but simply to connect with the one that is already running; and I do not seem to have a .parentlock file.
If the problem returns, I'll be back. Meanwhile, thanks for the suggestions. -
I ended up having two id's, one being my original when first getting into itunes and the other came when I opened a me account. I have purchases under the original id. How do I merge the old account into the new account
Sorry, but it is not possible to merge two Apple IDs/iTunes Store accounts.

I've stuck with Entourage way too long. Now I don't dare install the Mavericks OS because all my Entourage files will go away. And my iMac won't open Mac Mail (probably because I've never opened it in the 5 - 6 years I've owned the Mac.) Any suggestions?
If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.
If there are specific tasks you need help with:

Can no longer send mail from other apps
Problem:
If I go into any app (other than Mail) and try to send a message (via email) and I either get nothing or some apps will say that "Mail needs to be configured in order to do this." After doing a restore on my iPod touch (4th Gen., running the latest iOS5) I had only configured a few accounts under "Mail, Contacts, Calenddars", and *was* able to send mail from other apps just fine. Now that I have 13 accounts I cannot; not only is Mail configured and working fine (by itself,) but I now only have one account with "Mail" activated, and it is indeed set as the "default account" in Settings anyhow. This is frustrating since some apps depend on email to let me export its data but is also a nuisance since it makes it more difficult for me to share content with others.
Has anyone encountered this bug and/or have a tip?It is possible the Evil Starbucks empire has blocked SMTP sending as an antispam measure. You would need to log in to your email server using the smtpauth protocol. For example, Earthlink has an smtpauth.earthlink.net server for secure sending, which I was able to use sending from any public AP. Possibly T-Mobile has a similar authorized server.
But nowadays I just use Gmail, they make it easy and reliable to send from anywhere because they use a custom smtp port. Yeah, Gmail solved a multitude of problems with mobile sending.

Is there a way to increase the font size in the sidebar of Mac mail and the Finder when running OS 10.6.8?
The only way to increase the size of the onscreen text in the Finder Menu Bar and in the Side bar in Finder Windows is to change the screen resolution in the OS X Preferences Pane under the Displays icon.
What Mac and screen size are you using? -
Why has Apple decided that online orders for Macbook Air display and speak VO when first opened from the box? I"m guessing 1%or 2 % of your customers know what it is or want it.
You are not talking to Apple, we are just users like you. Only Apple knows that answer.

Viewing document without any guides showing WHEN FIRST Open
I know how to turn off the guides when the document is already open. But I don't have a clue how to save the document, so that the end user can open a clean page?
As far as I know, View > Grids & Guides > Show/Hide Guides gets saved
with the file. If you Hide Guides and save the file, the next person to
open the file shouldn't see guides.
This is not technically "when first open".

TS1702 my ipad mini is being a pain, if i update an app when i open it it turns right off
my ipad is being a pain, if i update an app, when i open it will blink and shut off
It sounds to me like your apps crash after you update them. Try this now and see if it helps at all. Close all of your apps in the recent tray at the bottom of the iPad, and then reboot the iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -

Has anybody lost the ability to scroll in Mail? Other apps scroll just fine.
Has anybody lost the ability to scroll in Mail? Other apps scroll just fine. Mail did too, before Mavericks.
Primary,
I have shot tethered in 4.1 and planned to do so in 4.2. Which 5D do you have? The first one? FF but 12Megapixels? My 5D's are a Mk2 and Mk3, but only the 5DMk2 was supported in LR4.1.
Very strange that no one has replied with a setting to check. Please write back here if you found out what happened.
