  • Setting the JavaMail properties especially: mail.smtp.timeout

    Hello,
    I am desperately trying to set the mail.smtp.timeout on a Spring JavaMailSenderImpl.
    Here is what I undertook:
    <bean id="mailSender" class="org.springframework.mail.javamail.JavaMailSenderImpl">
    <property name="host" value="${mail.server}"/>
    <property name="port" value="${mail.port}"/>
    <property name="javaMailProperties">
    <props>
    <prop key="mail.smtp.connectiontimeout">1000</prop>
    <prop key="mail.smtp.timeout">1000</prop>
    </props>
    </property>
    </bean>
    The javaMailProperties seem to be completely ignored by my Java Mail implementation. Can anyone please help?
    If I can't set this property through Spring, how can I set it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Julien.

    I notice the API documentation for com.sun.mail.smtp says that property should be an int. Is it possible that Spring doesn't know that, and sets it as a String by default? And that you should be specifying the property type somehow?
    Note: I know nothing about Spring except what it's for. This is just speculation.

  • I cannot send mail from 1 of my iCloud accounts using mac mail- smtp problem

    Slightly strange problem today with smtp server.  For some reason timing out on po4 on one of my accounts.  Another account uses po2 and is working fine.  If I log in to icloud I can send messages so problem appears to be in configuration of mac mail.  I have not changed anything, I can receive mail.  When trying to change smtp I cannot edit the smtp box or if i do it reverts to what it was previously.  Any suggestions ?

    Whoops have jus seen this thread which looks like it is a more widespread problem than just me

  • MAC MAIL (smtp server - offline)

    This is to address smtp server going offline:
    troubleshooting steps:
    Option 1.
    - Mailbox - Take account Online
    if that doesn't work...
    Option 2.
    - check smtp server
    - Mail - Preferences - Accounts - Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
    - remove current smtp server then add again
    - take account offline then online
    - quit and reopen Mac Mail
    Option 3.
    - delete and recreate account
    Anyone experiencing the same problem? I have att.net. One email working with same smtp server. Other email setup, same att account with the same settings but smtp offline. Is this a Mac update issue? Time warner email accounts having the same problem.

    I can send and receive (at my Mac.com mailbox) using att.net and gmail.com. The same message sent from the Mac.com smpt server fails as it is never sent.
    I have just been able to send mail again. It is 2222hrs., 23 May.

  • Issues with Mac Mail & smtp Settings

    For the past several days, I have had issues sending from Mail.  I get an error message that mail cannot connect to the server.  I've removed and re-added the outgoing mail settings and the smtp setting is correct.  I've installed all updates and shut down and restarted numerous times.  Every now and again, a message will get through and send very slowly, but most of the time, it just tells me it cannot send and offers me the chance to "Try Later" or "Try with Selected Server."
    Anyone else experiencing such issues - would love to know troubleshooting advice.
    Thanks!

    Hello kgoody,
    I have not been able to use my mac mail for 2 months now because of the server issue. "Try later" or "Try with selected server " were at the beginning of this nightmare. Since then I have not received a single email in the inbox. I downloaded an article "How to use Gmail with Apple's Mail" by Stephen Korecky and tried to fix the problem. It did not work because the Apple Mail windows did not show what they were supposed to. I called my software wizard and he said he will have to come and fix it. He did not show up yet. It is very frustrating.

  • Dot Mac Mail SMTP not accepting attachments over 2mb

    So i am trying to help my boss out with sending emails with attachments, but i keep running into the same problem. I can send normal emails just fine, and emails with small attachments work fine (i tried 50bytes, 750kb, 1.1mb, and 1.7mb) but once i get over 2mb i get the error message "An error occured while sending mail. The mail server responded: 4.0.0. Spam filter end message failed [slot2]. Please check the message and try again.". I tried both 2.4mb and 3.2mb files, but no luck. I tried sending with just plain text, and with sending HTML/Plain text. I tried every combination of SMTP server ports i could find, like port 25, no encryption, port 25 TLS is possible, port 25 SSL, port 587 no encryption, port 587 TLS if possible, port 587 SSL, and whatever the default SSL port is (i forget). The computer is one of the newer MacBooks, running BootCamp and windows XP. The mail application is Thunderbird, which i use extensivly on my personal computers. There are no firewalls up, even the router has the laptops IP on DMZ mode, and just to be safe, i made sure i could connect to port 587 with telnet from the command line. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

    Possibly so, but mobileme is currently having a lot of problems and that might have been reduced to lessen the strain on the servers.

  • Cannot send emails in Mac Mail using third party SMTP via BT Infinity Broadband

    EUREKA!!
    I have a Mac Book Pro and recently had my home broadband upgraded to BT Infinity. Prior to this upgrade sending emails via my Mac mail was working perfectly. Since the new installation I could no send any external emails using the Hotmail.co.uk or 123-Reg.co.uk smtp outgoing servers. Googlemail.com was ok.? very strange.
    So when I connected the same macbook to other wireless connections it would work perfectly.???
    So after many hours wasted messing around, I managed to get the right person at the right time via BT helpline in the UK not India. (India helpine just say "we are not trained in Apple".
    So the very polite man from UK Helpline provided me with the solution.
    GO TO > Apple Icon top left > System Preferences > Network > Wireless >
    Select your wireless connection > Click Advanced lower right on popup
    Select DNS tab
    Click on the + under DNS left pane and type the following :- 208.67.222.222
    Click Apply
    BINGO!!!!
    I hope this helps someone, as I know how painful these types of issues can be.
    Cheers

    Hi Haggie
    Had a similar experience but couldn't work out why macbook was working and imac not. I hate verification with bt. Anyway, tried your method and as you say eureka! Did have imac plugged in before and put it on wifi to try your fix  I will try plugging broadband back in to see if that works and will post back but at the moment just enjoying the moment!
    Just to say a big thank you for not only sorting the problem out but equally importantly posting the answer! Too many people sort out their problems without letting other people know how!
    Many thanks

    Hi, i am having trouble with my mac mail account, i cannot send or receive any emails because of the server connection problems. Message says it could not be connected to SMTP server. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello Sue,
    I have an iPad 3, iPad Mini and iPhone 5S and they are all sluggish on capitalisation using shift keys. I hope that Apple will solve the problem because it is driving me crazy.
    I find using a Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 phone, which I also have, work as well as all the ios devices before the ios 7 upgrade.
    It has something to do with the length of time that you need to hold the shift key down. The shift key needs to be held longer than the letter key for the capitalisation to work. For some reason, this is a major change in the way we have learnt to touch type on computers. I am having to relearn how to type!

  • VALUABLE HINT: How to send .Mac mail when SMTP is blocked

    See: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060113084246213
    Read ALL the comments...the info buried in them explains using SSL and ports and how to protect your .Mac account whether POP or IMAP.
    Help keep your dotmac password from being compromised.
    If you run your .Mac Mail through the Mail app, use the alternate port for the smtp server: 587 and click SSL.
    Go into Prefs and Advanced tab and click SSL to use the IMAP secure port: 993.
    READ THE HINT AND ALL COMMENTS. You will be glad you did.

    I configured the IDM from Configure--> servers -->Edit Server Settings page ,Email Template, as filled form:
    Default SMTP Server      192.168.22.222
         Use default
    Default SMTP Port      25

    Password      *****
    Default SMTP Enable SSL
         Use default (false)

         Disable Certificate Authentication
    When I run the "ALL USERS" report, I select the 'Email Report' and filled the mail address. But after running the report , I can't receive email and no error messages displayed.
    Could you tell me how to do I can debug or trace the messages if the IDM sent or not sent mail , if it connects to mail server ?

  • Problems with authenticated smtp on Mac mail 2

    I do support for a small ISP and we are seeing problems with Mac Mail authenticating to the smtp server. The settings that should work are:
    outgoing server: asmtp.gorge.net
    Username: full email address
    Outgoing server port: 2525 or 587
    We typically turn on password for the authentication type. In some customers, nothing seems to work. They get an error that their email address can't authenticate. Any ideas on what settings might work for this?

    Teri,
    Reading the guidance for Outlook Express, I note:
    "Step 11. On the Servers tab under Outgoing Mail Server, check the box titled My server requires authentication. Then go to the Advanced tab. Below select the option use same settings as incoming server. (emphasis added)"
    In Mail, this is normally the same as specifying authentication of None, and not entering the Username or Password again for the Outgoing Server. This type of authentication, does not result in appending the Username entry (Username corresponds to Account Name in Outlook Express). Mail will authenticate to the SMTP with the Username and Password used for the Incoming, if prompted by the server, and the separate, hard, (and redundant) authentication resulting from using Password in the Outgoing Server entry boxes will cause a failure. However, this type of authentication (which is often called SMTP after POP3, or POP3 before SMTP) is normally conducted on Port 25. In my experience, the use of Port 587 is meant for those SMTP that must have a separate authentication, and where you will see the name altered to include the Username. Hopefully this will work with Port 2525, but I have not confirmed. SMTP after POP3 authentication does not help sending from remote providers, such as found in internet cafes, and this is why some ISPs provide a SMTP that does require separate, Password Authentication.
    In the new Mail Setup Assistant, there is now the option to specify to use the same settings, but not enter the Username and Password -- this is not obvious, but well known by some ISPs, but not all -- this is really the same as changing to None in an existing account, and removing the Password and Username entries. Also, in Mail, I would NOT expect any default names to appear, unlike what your Mac Mail instructions imply.
    Keep me posted.

  • Mac mail: Use SSL on SMTP Server turning on

    I recently received and set up a new macbook pro (OSX 10.8.3) and I use it in both a wireless and wired network state.
    I set up some POP accounts in my mac mail, and everything works great.  But it seems that whenever I switch between networks, the "Use SSL" checkbox in my SMTP account for the mail magically turns on (I say "seems" because it could be some other factor such as actually changing to a completely different network location).  At this point I can send out no new mails.  I tracked this down fairly quickly, and annoying as it is, it *appears* at first glance to have a simple solution, go in and uncheck the box every time.  However, the frustrating thing is, as soon as this occurs, I can't get the unchecked box to save. I'll go in, uncheck it, close it down, mail still won't send, and when I go back in I find it's still happily checked as "Use SSL".
    The only way I've found to solve this problem so far is to delete the SMTP account, and then create a brand new one with the option unchecked.  But having to do this every time I switch networks is ridiculous!
    Does anyone have any thoughts as to what's going on or how I can *permanently* resolve this issue rather than resetting up my SMTP account over and over.

    This seems to be a bug in 10.8.3. I submitted a bugreport and Apple replied this was a 'known bug'. Hope they fix it rather soon.

  • Mac OS X Leopard Mail SMTP server keeps going offline and won't come on

    My SMTP in mail on my email accounts keeps going offline and I can't work out how to get it working again. My internet connection is fine. I am receiving emails. I was able to send earlier on my business email account but now my .mac account has gone offline and then my business on went on me.
    I only started using my business email account in mail today and loaded the account into mail. Does anyone have any answers for this as I can see there have been some other people who might have had a similar problem but I can't see any fixes?
    I have deleted and reloaded both my .mac and work account a couple of times now and restarted my computer but still no good.
    Can anyone help?

    I have that offline mail smtp server when I try to send emails from work with my macbook. I've always been able to send emails away from home using the login and password in the smtp configurations. It's a real pain since I use one email account for work and personal business. I can receive email but cannot send any. Everytime I have to answer an email while I'm working, I have to go to the browser, go to my provider's mail page, login and send from there my emails.
    Do we have the same problem?

  • HT1277 Mac Mail receiving but not sending. smtp not working

    I have been using Mac Mail with my Gmail account without any trouble for the last few years and just for the last 2-3 weeks I cannot send any e-mails. I am receiving without any problems, but no matter what I do it won't send, not even an e-mail to myself. My Calendar is set up to send my notifications and those won't even go. I have verified my settings (time and time again), I deleted and reset-up my account, in the last two weeks I have done everything I can, but can't figure it out so I am getting kind of desperate. I am sure that it is something to do with smtp but all of my settings for that are right too (in accordance to the Gmail and Apple sites). What I have done is just read and responded to my e-mails (when I do it offline) and then I have to log into my gmail account and copy/paste ALL of my e-mails manually, which I am sure you can imagine is extremely inefficient. Thank you to anyone who can help!
    Running Mac OS X 10.6.8 with Mail 4.5 and accessing Gmail

    Here is a screen shot too, not that it says much, but this is what I always get, no matter the settings (since they are all correct! OH! I guess I should also mention that I currently live in Africa and that I am using my Blackberry Bold as a modem to get internet on my computer, but I have been doing that since last year and never had a problem until now.
    Also, I did just very recently (as in a couple weeks ago), insert a new modem to my computer to try a second method of getting the internet on my computer other than my phone, and it didn't really work so I am back to just the phone again... would that simple installation have anything to do with Mail not sending e-mail? I can't imagine that it would, But I have seen stranger things.

  • Sent message from Mac Mail work email shows my personal gmail account as Mail to: and account summary shows outgoing mail server as smtp.google while incoming shows imap.google

    sent email from work through Mac Mail shows to the sender Mail to: (personal gmail). Account summary shows smtp.google on outgoing server and imap.google on incoming

    Is there a way to add this automatically?
    For a semi-permanent change, the Sending Server is named as "OutGoing Mail Server SMTP" on the Preference pane for each Mail Account.
    To change its specifics, move the mouse cursor over it and choose "Edit SMTP Server List" from the drop-down Menu. Then choose the SMTP Server you wish to inspect/change and its information will be shown. If using similar ones for two different email accounts, change the description field, e.g., change "gmail" to "gmail (work)".

  • Mac Mail trying to send over and over to bad smtp

    I have gone through a number of changes to my email lately.  I am now using a gmail account and have it setup correclty in mac mail.  The problem I am having is that every 5-10 min my email popups up, beaps at me and trys to send 4 emails using smtp.comcast.net which is not configured in mac mail.  I have tried removing the outbox.mbox file and that does not help.  Here is a picture of what it is doing. Thanks for any ideas.
