Mac Mail stopped accepting Gmail (cure)

So, I've had my mac mail configured to grab my gmail account for what seems like FOREVER. And all of a sudden, on Friday afternoon, it stopped working. Each progarm pointing the finger at the other, providing solutions that failed to resolve the issue. UNTIL TODAY! If you're having the same issue I've been having, that being:
1. Gmail working fine on day... and POOF, you can no longer send or recieve from Mac Mail 6.5
2. You can still access your gmail from EVERWHERE ELSE, browser, iphone, etc.
3. Your settings for IMAP/POP in gmail and passwords, ID's are all triple checked and correct
Here's the potential problem that some failed to mention: (at least throughout all the blogs and help columns, I could not find)
For some reason, back when I purchased my new computer in February, Mac Mail and Gmail were happy buddies and configured as they have been all along; GMAIL being a GMAIL POP account within Mac Mail. THIS IS THE ISSUE!
And for some reason, this STOPPED BEING OK Friday afternoon, as I was preparing to send off that very important PDF for my deadline! (why does it always happen when you have a deadline??)
SOLUTION: You'll have to recreate a NEW GMAIL IMAP account, the old POP won't work anymore, after I tried all the solutions listed.
After setting up a new Gmail IMAP account in Mac Mail, problem solved! Now, I am just waiting for all my history of mail to redownload. UGGGH. What a nightmare!
I hope this helps others out there who are experiencing this problem and don't know what to do to fix it.
Happy computing!

Try deleting your GMail account and re-adding it.

  • Moving mac mail messages to gmail through imap

    Newbie question so be gentle
Looking to move my Mac Mail to Gmail through IMAP - this is to ensure I can access my mail from any machine whilst I'm on the road working plus if my hard drive dies (which it did a year ago) I won't loose any messages/folders.
Currently have a couple of email addresses coming straight into Mac Mail and have numerous folders set up. Want to know if I link the Mac Mail to my Gmail account using IMAP will all my messages plus folders simply sync online with no issues? Will the folders remain intact (I understand Gmail uses 'labels' as folders)?
Looking forward to hearing from you and thanks in advance for your time.
    Peace
    DK

you can configure your gmail account as an imap account in mac mail. Then you can drag and drop either way between the 2 accounts. Once you have done that when you login to gmail webmail the mail will have been added there.
If you want to configure gmail webmail to recieve mail from a different mail account other than your gmail then you need to goto the gmail website for answers as this is not related to apple.

  • Mac Mail stops recieveing mail with Gmail Accounts and Google Apps

    Hi,
We're having some chronic issues with our corporate Google Apps / Gmail service when used with Mac Mail. Regardless of the OSX version... when it's not one thing it's another. It's nice to see that 10.9.4 finally correctly inserts the proper, full username in the SMTP field for Google Apps users.
We still have some problems where users stop receiving mail silently in the middle of their workday. It wouldn't be such an issue, except that Mac Mail pretends nothing is wrong and suddenly the person realizes they are 3 hours behind on their emails. Magically, quitting and re-opening mail resolves the issue. Even more disturbing, is this article on apple support which lists this stupidity as the official workaround
OS X: New email messages not received until Mail is quit and reopened
I suppose one could argue that Outlook 2011's integration with gmail accounts is even worse. There's something to be said about "AirMail" being the #2 app in all the appstore currently. Clearly Apple and Google aren't putting their best foot forward to make this work.
I guess what I'm looking for is something concrete other than "Restart Mail to get mail coming in again". Is there some workaround to see the connection status to see if something is stalled?

Googles version of an IMAP system works poorly with most clients. If you are going to use it then choosing a client that works the way Google wants them too is a wise course.
Of that breed MailPlane is easily the best, AirMail is a solid second.

  • Why has my mac mail stopped working with gmail

when i try to use the mail programe for gmail it has randomly stopped working
    can anyone help me please

    Great news....
and I am posting this all around.
This morning Sep12 I woke up and I was checking my email on the iPad and I noticed over 50msg... there were just a few last night...  Then I saw... OVI 50msg!  What?
I got to it and there it was... OVI mail working.
I re-edited my ipad config because it was setup for POP and I tried to change it to IMAP... I messed up, but realized... I could not simply edit on the iPad, so I deleted the email account and re-created using IMAP. It worked!!!
I have the OVI mail now configured on both my iPad and on my new Samsung S4 mini.
Here is what I am using:

  • Repeatedly mac mail corrupt with gmail

    Hi,
On a client's macair with IOS 10.9.2 he uses Mac Mail, with 4 mail accounts. Two are simple POP accounts.  Two are IMAP accounts sync with business Google Gmail accounts.  Three times in the past 6 weeks one of his Gmail accounts (e.g. [email protected]) becomes corrupt where Mac Mail does not send.emails and stops showing new incoming email.  Just this one Gmail account.  Mail continues to work OK from other devices with this account loaded (e.g. iPhone, one other machine with this account loaded or via browsers).
Connection Doctor, Rebuilds do not resolve the issue.  Plenty of free space on the unit.
To fix it I remove this account then add it (as new) again.  Then all works well for a week or two. Fortunately as an IMAP account no emails or information is lost.  About 2.04 GB in this account, so it takes time to re-download.
So what s the underlying issue and what do I do to prevent this from recurring?  Help!
    Thanks

update. Maverick Version is 10.9.4, Mail is V 7.3
Within Mail, going to Mailbox, Sync shows just this one account greyed out.

  • Exchange mail in mac mail stopped working

I have been using a exchange IMAP mail on my mac mail for several years now. Recenty the volume of emails in my inbox was exceeding the size limit set by the administrator. I created seperate mailboxes on my mac to store old emails, which was working fine for sometime. However, all of a sudden one day, my mail stopped working correctly: The inbox is constantly thinking (the circiling bars are always circiling), it does not move emails to my offline mailboxes, it does not erase emails, it take at least 15 minutes to receive and/or send emails. I have tried to update the envelope index but no change. I have the same account on my ipad and iphone, and both work fine, only on my mac book (lion ISO) is it not working.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • Mac mail stopped working with Yahoo! mail

Last month my mac mail app stopped downloading any of the normal mail from my frontier.com mail account hosted by Yahoo!
All I see is Apple mail coming in occasionally. This is beyond strange and it looks like a problem specific to Mac Mail as Thunderbird downloads everything using the same settings.
Has anyone else run into this with Frontier? Please help!

Sometimes this issue is caused by a misconfiguration or incompatibility of the Exchange server, or perhaps by a bug in Mail. If so, you won't be able to resolve it yourself. The fact that your iOS devices may be working well with the same account isn't relevant, because iOS uses a completely different protocol (ActiveSync) to communicate with Exchange servers. By default, OS X Mail uses the EWS protocol.
Each of the following steps has been reported to help, at least temporarily, in some cases (not all):
    1. Back up all data. Open the Internet Accounts pane in System Preferences and check to make sure you don't have duplicate Exchange accounts. If you do, delete all but one of the duplicates. If there are no duplicates, delete the account and recreate it with the same settings.
    2. Rebuild the affected mailbox.
    3. Reindex messages.
    4. Follow the instructions in this support article to disable autodiscovery. You may need to get configuration details from the server administrator.
    5. In the Keychain Access application, delete the password item for the account. The next time Mail tries to access the account, you'll be prompted for the password. Check the box to save it in the Keychain.
    6. If you've created subfolders of the Exchange inbox, log in to the server through its web interface, move the messages out, and remove the subfolders. The inbox should have no subfolders.
    7. Synchronize with the server using IMAP rather than EWS. This is only possible if IMAP is enabled on the server.
    8. Consider using Outlook instead of Mail to access your Exchange mail. It uses yet another proprietary protocol (MAPI) that isn't available to other mail clients.

  • Mac mail problem with gmail smtp server

    I had 2 gmail addresses.
about 3 weeks ago mac mail decided to always send email from both addresses as if they originated from only one address.
I did not solve this problem.
For non related reasons, I got another gmail address.
    The same thing started happening.
I now had 3 gmail addresses, but recipients were receiving all email from only one address.
I went to email preferences and started exploring and experimenting.
I was able to reconfigure so that the new gmail address sends from its proper smtp address.
However, there is nothing I can do to get my second email address to send from its proper smtp.
For some inexplicable reason the dialogue box beside "Outgoing Mail Serve (SMTP): tells me that smpt server is offline.
I have no idea how to get it back online.
(In the server editor, there is one more gmail smtp server than I need, 4 instead of 3 and 2 are offline - one just went off tonight)
All relevant mail boxes are online.
Does anyone know anything about this problem?

    Jack,
There are mail forums in the forums for OS X, because you are using Leopard 10.5.6 (why haven't you upgraded to 10.5.8?) you should re-post in that forum. Mail comes as part of the OS that is why they're there. The address is:

  • Mac mail not recieving gmail account

I have a problem recieving gmail into my mac mail, it is constantly asking me to verify password which I know is correct. I have tried differnt IMAP settings withing my gmail, but nothing seems to change which my constant trouble to send and recieve mail.

Does it ever let you send mail? Like if you type it in does it send the mail? Or if you type it in does it receive the mail?
I would guess its two step verfication. Try this page: http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=ch_b%2F0%2FSmsAuthCon fig&answer=185833

  • Is mac mail better than gmail?

Right now I use gmail but am interested in giving mail on my mac a shot. Is it worth it? Right now I dont see any features that compare to gmail.

Sometimes people refer to MobileMe mail services as Mac mail, but that is different from the application Mail (known as an email client) that works with many mail accounts and servers.
If you are trying to compare MobileMe with Gmail, it is not an equal comparison. MobileMe, a subscription service, provides much more than email service, and you would have to read about that in total, and judge its desirability on factors other than emailing.

  • Mac mail not accepting password

Hi, my name is Christine. I am trying to connect to my mac mail account. It keeps prompting me for a proper password, however, when I type it in, it declines it. I am not sure why. I've tried different passwords but it still won't go online. Any suggestions?

    Check the correct mail parameter.
    SMTP/POP3/IMAP server, port, authentication
    account name and password.

  • G4-Tiger -When I use OS Classic, Mac mail stops sending  mail.

My G4 Flatscreen has latest tiger, and latest mac mail, but
when mail is open and I open classic and macwrite pro to get old documents, mail will not allow me to send or reply to email. it receives incoming mail fine. The Reply button just barely blinks, and the new mail button does nothing.
3 trips to Apple Genius Bar only told me that the "genius" are only good at IPod repair for teenieboppers. They had no clue. I dragged in the G4, and after an hour they gave up.
The only fix, after running all the fix programs, and archieve and install was a total erase and reinstall of Tiger and hence Mail. Now I am stuck, how do I get old documents that AW6 will not recognize, and Text Edit butchers so badly that it is useless. I have had to wipe hard drive 4 times in 5 weeks. this is getting very old.

I think that you give less credit to 'most users' than they deserve. Speaking in generality confuses people and provides them little or no information. It also makes it appear that the person making the statement has no solid information and is merely "hand waving".
Although 'most users' may not understand the technical details they don't want to be talked down to. They would rather be given the information and then digest it at their own rate. Saying that almost anything can cause interference with your wireless network will cause a lot of misunderstandings.
I looked at the sites that you have in your post and they have a lot of detail especially compared to the statement I questioned.
Let's examine your original statement:Almost anything that emits a signal and or using High or Low Frequency signals can possibly affect your Network if the conditions are right. Now, let's say that there are 2 people talking face-to-face. They are emitting a signal. As they talk they use both high and low frequencies. Their conversation will not affect the performance of your wireless network.
That statement can certainly cause fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) in those less technical that are using or contemplating a wireless network.
Last but not least, In my opinion there are ton's of users that decide they want wireless technology, without doing no more than plugging in and expecting it to work without doing any homework on the pro's and con's of the technology and the use of the same.
Sure, I agree with that. I don't think that has anything to do with this discussion though.

  • Why has mac mail stopped displaying images in emails?

upgraded to ML when it came out, all fine, but 2 weeks ago, mail suddenly stopped displaying any images in my emails.
how do i get them back???
    thanks in advance

Re:  my Mac also JUST stopped showing embedded images in my email several weeks back.  I've done it all to fix it including reloading mail program but still no luck.  this is really ticking me off because I can not even tell what the emails are about.  what the heck, doesn't someone from Apple review these posts once in a while.

    Hello again, WZZZ,
Here's an update. I was successful in creating two partitions on my internal drive, and in installing OS 10.6.6 on the second partition, as per your guidence. I now have it up to 10.6.8 with all the security updates and AppleWorks. A great thing.
    Some thoughts:
    • The partitioning had one hitch; it failed at first. But once I "repaired" the disc with Disc Utility the partitioning went thru.
    • The partitioning took a long time in 'resizing the partition.' A few hours I think it was. Lots of progress bar watching.
    • If I had it to do again, I'd size the two partitions differently. My original data was occupying about 230 Gb of the 320 Gb disc. I made the new partitions share the space, about 230 and 75Gb. That left very little available space for the main disc. I ought to have put some breathing room in there. As it is, it's an incentive to clean up all those files, especially all those iTunes files. I now have about 10% of available space there and mean to continue deleting.
So, all in all a good project that got me where I wanted to go. Thank you for your help.
    Appreciatively,
    wallah

  • Mac Mail stops receiving mail after Shut down.

It's hapend occasionally ever since Apple switched on iCloud and i moved from mobile me to iCloud. But now it seems everytime i shut my computer down at the end of the day then turn on in the morning i find Emails have stoped being recieved from iCloud.
I try taking accou ts offline then back online to try and kick it inot action. I've tried Syncronize with iCloud with no results.
The only solution seems to be to delete the iCloud account from preferences which deletes every email from my Mail client, then recreating the iCloud account. The result is that Mail then syncs and downloads all my emails again from iCloud but at least it starts working again.
But if i shut down my computer for the night, the problem is repeated.
I know, so from now i wont shut down the computer, ill just put in sleep mode. Just thought i'd let others know whats happend to me in case it's of help.

Carolyn,  I have done this but as soon as It starts back up, the same problems occur. Update requests a restart, mail cancels.
