Mac mail stuck in loop

setting up an iMac for my folks.  I think.. I tried to send an e-mail out without any acts set up… it is stuck in endless cycle. Turning machine down for 24 hrs didn't stop it.  I cannot stay in the mac mail long enough to do anything & have had to use force quit to get out of it.  I got this for my folks because for a year I've been telling them how wonderful Mac's are…  My dad is going nuts for  his mail.
I have a 17" iMac, used, 10.7.5, with approx. 143 GB of storage… 2 GB Memory.. Any help??? Please..

Back again, and you are very welcome...off on vacation right now, but since we are all fellow users on here and not Apple employees, that doesn't mean much.  Had to have some grand-kids time and steamed crabs
Sounds like you managed to get the account set up pretty well for your dad...did you go to the Advanced button on the Accounts page and setup that something like:
While this may seem intimidating to many users, it really isn't, you can always go back and edit the fields.  Providers often change settings and send subscribers info that forces them to go into the Mail Preferences and change their own account settings.  My provider did that a couple months ago and it meant changing the incoming and outgoing server names, ports, and security on my computers and iPad and iPhone...the only way to deal with that is sit down with the hardware and change them one at a time and just be patient.
Anyway, hope your dad is up and running and all goes well now.  If anything else comes up, be sure and come on these Communities and ask...we are all very happy to be able to help a fellow user.

  • Voice mail stuck in loop

I just went to set up voice mail, picked a password (same as the one I was using on the Palm Centro my iPhone replaced), recorded a custom greeting, went to save and got this message: "Voicemail Unavailable. Unable to connect. Try again later."
I have tried repeatedly but get the same message every time. When I try to cancel out of the setup process, the phone app just kicks me back into voice mail setup and puts me back on the screen where I am supposed to save the greeting. I can't break out of this and get back to the phone keyboard and other features.
I tried force quitting phone, but I'm still stuck in the same loop when I reopen phone. Any ideas?
    Neil

If you press "Cancel" on the voicemail process and (as soon as the telephone menu shows up) you press any other menu option (like Contacts or Keyboard), you can eventually get out of the loop. It has worked for me a couple of times.
This is terribly annoying, by the way.

  • Yahoo mail continues to check mail stuck in loop, drains battery, heats up.

Using Yahoo mail on an iPhone 3GS with iOS4 then upgraded to iOS4.0.1, same issue.
Set Yahoo mail (pop) and it seems to check mail the checking mail spins, then it seems to start looping checking mail, it seems that it finds a different # of message that need to be loaded in. As an example, it will flash just below the message in the inbox:
    Load more messages...:
    39 total, 2 unread
Then checks mail again and flashes the same "Load Messages..." but the # are a bit different 34 total, 4 unread, flashes, then loops again back to the Load more messages... 39 total, 2 unread
Also, when I try and delete messages it will say unable to move message to trash and then the attempted "deleted" messages will pop back into the inbox of all messages.
And also sometimes it will when I try and go into the "all boxes" the message will be there, then disappear and then re appear later, or while I am reading the 1st unread message it will attempt to refresh and all the messages dis appear then quickly re appear. All this crazy mail has happened since the iOS4 & 4.0.1 update. besides being a total drag, the looping is killing the battery and heats up the iPhone in my pocket and when I hold it the unit is hotter on the backside????/

I have had the same problem - especially when out and about with 3G on. Turning the phone off and then on again [press and hold the power button] does work every time but it is a bit of a pain.
The other way is to press and hold the home button which will kill the last app [email] running or the one you are in. I've found that maneuver stops the program from continuing to check for mail and running down the battery. It is less effective at getting mail to connect properly again.
I have not found it necessary to delete and add accounts and so forth.

  • .Mac account stuck in loop.

I was going to send an email with 40 or so pictures weighing in at about 300+ MB and then realized that the maximum email size was around 25MB haha. I deleted the pictures from the email (or so I thought) and then tried to send that same email with an explanation as to why I couldn't send the pictures. Unfortunately I guess I didn't actually delete the pictures and sent the email.
It took forever to send and so I tried to cancel it. Now, every time I activate my .Mac mailbox, it tries to send that email. I've deleted it from the drafts folder, I've deleted it from the outgoing folder, but it always reappears. Any ideas on how to destroy this little guy?

    Hi,
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and locate the Outbox.mbox folder. Delete it, relaunch Mail, and when you next send, Mail will create a new Outbox.mbox.

  • Mac Mail incoming messages stuck in endless loop

My Mac Mail (Version 7.3) suddenly went crazy on me this morning - when you check for incoming messages, it will show under mail activity that it is checking but the progress bar will fill 80% of the way then stop, with no messages downloaded. And if you go to check for incoming messages again, the total number of messages will double. On and on like that in an endless loop toward infinity. I was able to see that I do not, in fact, have thousands of e-mails waiting for me by clicking account info -> messages on server. Like a dummy I deleted my account (without backing up my sent and drafts, much to my combined shame and dismay) but that didn't fix the problem. I only have one account, a POP3, in my Mac Mail. OSX version is 10.9.4

First thing to do is never post your actual email address in the forums; you don't want to get lots of spam as a result of spambots harvesting that address.
Next, login to the web interface of your .mac account and verify how many messages are actually there, both new Unread messages, and already Read messages. Write those numbers down and then logout.
Quit Mail and go to Home/Library/Mail and remove the mailbox for your IMAP (.mac) account. Then delete any files that start with Envelope Index.
Restart Mail and wait for it to download your .mac email again and rebuild your Mail index; then check to see if the problem continues.

  • I've stuck with Entourage way too long. Now I don't dare install the Mavericks OS because all my Entourage files will go away. And my iMac won't open Mac Mail (probably because I've never opened it in the 5 - 6 years I've owned the Mac.) Any suggestions?

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.
If there are specific tasks you need help with:

  • Possible to get loop to PLAY in an EMAIL automatically? ? ? ? (Mac Mail)

WHen theu user opens his / her email, is it possible to get them to hear the loop snip play automatically from mac mail?

I think you will have to re-phrase your question to get an answer, because it doesn't make sense.
What does "to hear the loop snip play automatically" mean?
Can you describe exactly what you want to do?

  • Mac Mail downloading emails in an infinite loop.

    I can't sort this out:
When I opened my brand new MacBookPro today OS X 10.6.7 was frozen and I had to force a shut down.
Once the computer was back on I tried to open Mail but I had a message that said that the index was corrupted and I had to create a new one.
Once a new index was created, Mac Mail has started downloading the last 480 emails I received in an infinite loop. It has already downloaded over 10K times the same emails!!
I have tried to rebuild the mailbox and I have deleted the index file a few times but the problem persist.
Please help!! I got a lot of work right now, I need my Mac Mail.

Well I'm having the same problem after also trying to send an email with photos as attachments.
The email keeps getting put into my draft mailbox "On My Mac". I've tried removing the attachments and then deleting the email,I've tried deleting the mailbox, I've been to the server and deleting the email I found there, but as you say, everytime, it comes back from the dead. I've gone to my mail preferences and changed the port and nothing seems to work. What is strange, is that everytime I click on the OK button on the error message, it starts again and puts another copy of the message into the draft mailbox, so I end up with multiple copies of the same email, complete with attachments.
I've tried turning airport off while I do this, and then turning it back on after deleting, but it hasn't helped.
I'm baffled as to what to try next.

  • Mac Mail "Incoming Messages" seems to be in and endless loop.

When I open Mac Mail it automatically stars downloading new incoming mail messages. The indicator bar in the bottom left of the mail window indicates incoming messages 1 of 20. It seems to go for ten minutes or so, then increases to 4 of 58, then increases to 10 of 112, then increases to 14 of 197... This continues endlessly until I eventually have to force quit the application. Seems like something is corrupted in one or several of my many mailboxes I monitor with Mac Mail. What can I do to fix this?

  • I suddenly cannot search my Address Book (Contacts) in Mac Mail.  Seems to be "stuck" on one contact

I suddenly cannot search my Mac Mail Contacts.  Normally, when I type in a name, it immediately comes right up to that contact.  Only way I can see a particular contact I want is to double click on that name.  I want to be able to see it to the right of the list of all my contacts on the left.  Thanks in advance for your help.  I've tried quitting the application, but it's not helping.  I've also checked and all my Software Updates are up to date.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
Not exactly clear, but in Address Books tool bar, is Groups & Names shown, or just Names?

  • Mail stuck in outbox. Mac locks up

I know there is a known issue with mail and there are numerous threads on the mail memory leak.  I am amazed a core app like mail has been neglected by apple for so long but anyway.   I have a mail stuck in the outbox and cannot get rid of it due to the memory leak.  Within a few seconds of launching mail the app hogs 10gig of ram and counting which doesn't give me change to get to the offending message.  I cannot rebuild mailboxes either.  I have been told it might be a gmail issue but I cannot do a thing once I click the dreaded mail icon.  Any pointers would be appreciated

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then launch Mail and wait for it to do whatever it's doing. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • How to reset mac mail & retain folders - Please Help!

Long story short - I need to save a backup copy of my mail folders which I think I've done, then reset mac mail & load the saved folders back into mac mail.
I need to reset mac mail so it gets out of the stuck loop it's been in for 3 days as it uploads 25,000 (literally...here's where the long story could come in...) emails off my server for the second time.... quitting, force quitting & turning the computer off & on have already been done...anyway...hoping someone out there can give me either a place to find easy to understand step by step instructions on how to reset mac mail, or give me the steps themselves here.
thank you so much - you all are my last resort!

again - you guys are my last hope - any thoughts????
