Mac Mail "Unread" Column Not Variable in Yosemite

I just made the leap from 10.8 to 10.10 and I've encountered a problem in Mac Mail.
Since I prefer the classic view since unread messages can have bold type, I now have a super-wide column for the "Unread" button / "Replied" icon. I cannot adjust the width in the usual way...it won't allow it. (See screenshot) I tried moving it all along the bar. No luck. Can anyone help me shrink this down? Thanks!

  • Mac mail rules do not display properly

I use Mac Mail rules to manage my mail, but I am having trouble using them because, many time the "Perform the following actions:" display gets so scrunched together that I cannot see what I've already entered or, if I'm editing a rule, what needs to be changed (see image capture, below).  This does not happen with every rule but it happens on many of them.  It occasionally (but less often) happens with the conditions entries too.
I've had this problem for some time, but it's gotten much worse since I upgraded to Yosemite.
Another problem I'm having with the mail rules is that sometimes the "Stop evaluating rules" option is grayed out and I can't enter it as an action.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Mail sees the number of .Mac mail messages, but not anything else about 'em

    Pretty straight forward problem.
Mail says I have .Mac mail on all of my .Mac accounts yet when I click on them in Mail they cannot be seen in the list.
ALL SOFTWARE IS UP TO DATE/LATEST AVAILABLE.
Do ports have to be opened up for Mail to work? If so, how do people like me with five computers in their house each use Mail?
In the left pane under the INBOX, I see all of my accounts.
For one/my/main .Mac account, I hear the chime of NEW MAIL and see the red circle/dot with the number of new mails.
When I click on the .Mac account, the right/upper pane shows nothing - it is blank.
All of my other myriad of pop/imap accounts defined in the mail.app work perfectly well.
    .Mac mail accounts.
    email accounts from .Mac.
Family pack gives a person five accounts. I mentioned that so that it the fact it happens with all the subaccounts and all my computers would eliminate any individual account and any individual computer from being significantly different than any other typical setup and thus eliminate them from being the focus on any suggested fix.

I'd suggest creating a new test user account from the system preferences. Log in, open Mail, enter your .Mac settings and see how it goes.
Alternatively, you can try to reset Mail.app by renaming (for backup purposes) the following files: (This will affect your other mailboxes as well!)
    Preferences: your_name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    & Mail folder: your_name/Library/Mail/
Assuming a new Mail setup actually works, post back in case you need help on importing your old POP3 messages.
If not, I've no idea what to do... Your firewall should not affect .Mac behavior. (I got to admit, I don't particularly like Mail.app's buggy IMAP implementation.)
    Good luck!

  • Mac Mail slow to sync after upgrade Yosemite 10.10.2 and OS X Server 4.0.3

We have deployed server OS X Server 4.0.3 and all client computer configured with DNS, Open Directory and Mail Server of OS X Server 4.0.3. It is quick to deliver mail before upgrade. And it is quick to deliver mail from iOS now. But it too slow to use Mac Mail. Even send to myself from intranet it costs 3 mins.

I have no solution but have experienced failing sync settings (quite often) in both 10.6 Server and 10.9 + Server 3 (upgraded from 10.6 Server) in the same way as you described, it syncs too much. We have given up on synched home folders and will cut them and use other backup methods since we’re not so dependant on switching between different devices. Our users usually have one computer, one iPhone, one iPad and stay with those until it’s time to exchange them.

  • Mac Mail: smpt password not being recognized

Short version: I had to update my ATT modem and this prompted me to re-establish a connection with ATT.net. Given that I never use my ATT browser mail, I called tech support for the password. Once set, I was up and running on the internet. Even received emails via MacMail, but no outbound. ATT said I needed to match the "browser-based" password with the smpt in the account settings within Mac Mail.
Did it. —>quit—>restarted—>checked for password case sensitivity and even blind spaces. I got nothin'. I gotta say ATT tech's were consistently nice over the 4 hours I dealt with four people and in the end could offer no high level tech support as they are not familiar yet with Lion. I'm pretty techie, but the simple things here are mind melting me.

Thanks for all of your responses.
I redid everything you guys mentioned and at one point I got a message that it wasn't reaching the server. The option to "resolve to server" came up (which wasn't the default option) and I clicked it for the heck of it. Sure enough, it fixed the connection. Again, what was odd was that the deault was "try again".
It's working fine now, but since I don't know what caused the disconnect in the first place, I'm hoping the connection doesn't break again, I accept a meeting, and it doesn't get added to iCal. You'd think there'd be a redundancy for .ics files where it would say:
You have responded to an invite. Would you like to add to iCal?
    [Yes] [No]
[ ] Never ask me again
Or it would there would be an option in Mail that says "Display Calendar invites as [] Attachment [] Email."
I know the preferences should take care of this, but meetings and appointments are important enough for this type of anal retentiveness.
Thanks again fo rall your help.

  • HT1277 Mac Mail receiving but not sending. smtp not working

I have been using Mac Mail with my Gmail account without any trouble for the last few years and just for the last 2-3 weeks I cannot send any e-mails. I am receiving without any problems, but no matter what I do it won't send, not even an e-mail to myself. My Calendar is set up to send my notifications and those won't even go. I have verified my settings (time and time again), I deleted and reset-up my account, in the last two weeks I have done everything I can, but can't figure it out so I am getting kind of desperate. I am sure that it is something to do with smtp but all of my settings for that are right too (in accordance to the Gmail and Apple sites). What I have done is just read and responded to my e-mails (when I do it offline) and then I have to log into my gmail account and copy/paste ALL of my e-mails manually, which I am sure you can imagine is extremely inefficient. Thank you to anyone who can help!
Running Mac OS X 10.6.8 with Mail 4.5 and accessing Gmail

Here is a screen shot too, not that it says much, but this is what I always get, no matter the settings (since they are all correct! OH! I guess I should also mention that I currently live in Africa and that I am using my Blackberry Bold as a modem to get internet on my computer, but I have been doing that since last year and never had a problem until now.
Also, I did just very recently (as in a couple weeks ago), insert a new modem to my computer to try a second method of getting the internet on my computer other than my phone, and it didn't really work so I am back to just the phone again... would that simple installation have anything to do with Mail not sending e-mail? I can't imagine that it would, But I have seen stranger things.

  • Mac Mail: Unread mail counter on dock icon shows "phantom" unread mails

The mailconter of my Mac Mail icon on the dock shows 25 unread messages, but I'm unable to find these inside Mac Mail as unread messages.
I did check all mailboxes and their subfolders for any undread messages that might be inside them, but I didn't find any.
Is there any way to reset or recalculate the unread mail counter for the dock icon?

    Hi Robert
The proposed rebuild did suddenly reveal the 25 unread mails insinde my archive mailfolders. By marking these as read again now shows the correct count of unread mails on the dock icon.
Thanks a lot, your hint was most helpful!

  • Mac Mail Inbox will not update

I have a user using a Macbook Air running Mavericks.  He has three accounts setup in mac mail.  2 are gmail accounts he's had in there for months.  The third is our exchange account which he's added more recently (only be in mail for the past 2-3 months vs 8-9 with the others).  Today he stopped recieving email in his exchange inbox, but only in mac mail.  He can still send email fine and recieves email in our web portal and on his iphone.
I tried removing the exchange account and re-adding it but that did not help.  It download 6 mails into the inbox and then stopped.  I then changed the name of the account from Exchange to his name and clicked save.  As soon as I did that, it downlaoded 5 new email and then just stopped again.  Manually clicking get mail does nothing.  I also tried changing th eaccount prefrences to check mail once every minute and five minutes vs automatically but neither helped.  It can still send emails just fine and his iphone/web portal work just fine (sending/recieving).
One of the two other gmail accounts works just fine with full functionality.  The other is an account that got disabled within the past week (not sure exactly when).  So it has no functionality as far as sending/recieving goes.  I dont want to remove the disabled box, because he wants the emails from there.  I havnt had a chance to export them or anything but I will try that soon and THEN remove the account.  but it should work without having to do this, shouldnt it?  Or do you think this might be causing mail to hang when checking the exchange account?
    Any other suggestions/options?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Removing the account will only delete the emails on the mail.app, meaning they should still be on the actual website from which you receive mail.  Try selecting the mailbox that doens't work and go to the menu bar and hit mailbox>rebuild.  If this doesn't work immediately don't give up.  It has to download all the emails again and how soon you will see them again depends on how many you have.
    Hope this helps,
         Jack

  • HT4061 Emails not being delivered via mac mail - recipients claim not receiving

A colleague and I have discovered over last 2 weeks issues with mac mail.
Emails are not being received - but it appears to be RANDOM.
We both use mac mail and have .me accounts.
He sent a group email that I never received until 3 days later when another colleague NOT on mac mail replied to all and I saw that I never received original note.
This colleague sent email to his attorney weeks ago -- and it was just delivered to his attorney's inbox YESTERDAY.
The colleague has also send me a several SENSITIVE correspondences that he confirmed via phone last night that I have still NOT received.
What is going on? is is a mac mail issue or an iCloud issue?
Need some help to get this reported and resolved.
    thank you!

sorry gg30340 , Yes webmail works fine and I can receive from Outlook fine, just sent emails seems to disappear into a black hole from Outlook
    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
For info, CP (Critical Path) has been in use for a few months now for the conversion from using Yahoo! mail servers.
What version of Outlook are you using ?
In the smtp setting, try removing @btinternet.com or @btopenworld.com from the username - despite what the online help might say.
You might like to try port 25, with No security or SSL/TLS setting.
Is it all emails that are failing to send ?
If emails have been fine for years, do you know what the previous settings were ?
As for disabling firewalls - this doesn't always help - as they can still block emails! What security package are you using, and have you checked the settings within that package ?
    Sorry for the extra questions.

  • Mac Mail spins, but not load

I have 3 different mail accounts that Mac Mail downloads from. 2 of them work fine, but as of yesterday one of the accounts simply spins, NEVER stopping and never downloading mail from the server. All of my settings (smtp, etc) are correct. While the account spins, I can't quit mail and have to force quit. Once I re-open mail after a force quit and shutting down, the spinning on that one account continues. I've checked with the server, and we can't find any problem on that end and I can go directly to the server and have mail in the "broken" account forwarded to one of my other 2 e-mail accounts that Mac Mail has no problem with. I'm stumped. Any ideas?
    Dan

    Hi Dan.
It's a POP account and "remove copy from server after retrieving a message".
Not sure what you mean. You haven’t really answered my question, have you?
Try this to determine the scope of the problem:
    1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts, and create a new user account for testing purposes.
    2. Either log out of your main user account or just quit Mail so that it does not interfere with the other user account.
    3. Log in as the newly created user and set up Mail anew there with the problematic POP account.
    4. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced and disable Remove copy from server after retrieving a message if it’s enabled.
    5. Check whether the problem also happens when logged in as another user.

  • Mac Mail POP Account Not Receiving Messages

Using Mac Mail, I am suddenly not receiving messages in a POP account. The gmail account I use is working normally. Under connection doctor both accounts are green. Help, please?

Same problem here since upgrading to Mail 7.1 (1827). All the settings are seemingly correct. The emails are marked as 'Read' on the server but are not downloaded.
The emails are also deleted a week later as set in preferences.
Thinking the emails may have gone elsewhere I used Spotlight to look for them. No success there.
Real puzzle and yet another glitch on the latest Apple Mail.
Come on Apple, get your act together.
