Mac makes "waking out of sleep" noise without screen turning on.

I always put my Mac to sleep. For a while now, I would notice the Mac would make the noise randomly (middle of the night lets say) as if it were coming out of sleep mode yet the screen wouldn't turn on. Only when I physically bring it out of sleep mode the monitor obviously turns on. Any reason for this? Thanks!

It seems I've seen a few posts about the Logitech drivers causing KPs recently. Try doing a search on "Logitech" for recent posts. I would do this for you, but the forums are running slow right now.

  • Waking up from sleep with blue screen

Waking up from sleep with blue screen
Since a few days my MBP wakes up from sleep by showing a blue screen for 30 seconds or more, instead of jumping to the login window (password needed after sleep)
I looked in the forums for blue screen but found many problems non related to this.
    Any ideas?
Could it have to do with the fact that about 4 days ago I upgraded to 4.8 from 4.7?

    Hi ChangeAgent,
    FINDER> FILE > FIND
Use the FIND file from the Finder, not Spotlight, to find the folder called Receipts and click on this folder. Scroll down to see if you have this Security Update installed --
    Security Update: 2006-008
it may be causing general problems to everyone.
I have only seen this BLUE SCREEN since I installed this security update.
    It's the very latest one.
The Blue Screen is not my only problem:
I have had two system crashes (computer waking up with DARWIN window error, fixed when I re-booted).
Scrolling has slowed down in some applications.
The update in Microsoft Office vX was reverted, yesterday I received a message that said: Welcome to Microsoft Office (how can it welcome me when I have been using it every day for the past 15 years?)
Dashboard: It takes 3 minutes for the Widgets to upload.
SOMETHING is not right with this Security Update. Apple, please HELP!

  • Microsoft Word crashes when Mac is coming out of sleep

On both Microsoft Word 2008 (and Excel) I get crashes whenever the Mac comes out of sleep mode or I unhook my extra monitors. This is on Yosemite, 10.10.2, but goes back for quite some time, and I am running on MBPro Retina 15" first gen. It seems like a rendering issue if the screen buffers get changed around in some way. Has anyone encountered this at all?

I used to have the same problem several OS points before and it suddenly stopped occurring. After the last update (10.4.9), it started happening again. Basically, when I close the laptop cover, it goes to sleep. WHen I open the cover, it occasionally remains with the screen black. I can't figure out the cause. I have reset the PMU, NVRAM.
The only other thing that I noticed is that the ENergy Saver preferences are no longer followed on my system. For example, I have the setting to 'sleep' at 15 minutes of idle. It never kicks into sleep by itself.
I am not sure if it has anything to do with the latest OS update. It may be a coincidence. Intuitively, I feel it is a hardware failure, but I am too lazy to test it out. I am waiting to get a new laptop, transfer my files and then wipe the hard drive clean with a fresh OS install to see if the problem persists.
ANyone else having the same problems?

  • My Mac is waking up from sleep without reason.

    So this is what happens:
Sometimes I send my iMac to sleep and then I go away, but after I return, I've noticed the hard drive is working as if the computer were awake, not sleeping. For some reason it is waking up.
Sometimes I'm sitting at my office, and then I just hear the hard drive started buzzing, just like it does when it comes brack from sleep mode.
Nevertheless the screen remains off. But if I click on the trackpad, or press any key, it turns on and shows that the computer was already on (it's different when it's returning from sleep, it takes a little longer and you can hear the click of the hard drive being activated).
I don't know what is causing it to wake up!
    Does anybody know it?

First: reset the > System Management Controller (SMC)
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Second: check for a loose power plug and/or have an electrician check your homes power circuits, because it sounds as if your iMac is loosing power and then restarting when the power is restored.
Lastly: to prevent the iMac from restarting when there is power problem, go to: Apple / System Preferences / Energy Saver and uncheck the box for "Startup automatically after a power failure" that way the iMac will remain off when there is a power problem....

  • Locking iphone without screen turning off?

Is there any way of being able to lock my iphone without the screen going black? The top button and home button are no long working on my iphone and I can't afford to get them repaired right now. Because of this I can no longer lock my iphone which means I have to have it on home screen all day, meaning alot of unwated texts/tweets/photos happening. I try carrying round my charger but it's an inconvinience having to find a plug all the time as my work eans I'm always on the go and outside. so is there anyway of being able to lock my phone but not so the screen switches off completely? :S

I'm not sure what you mean by locking your phone without the screen going black. But you can have your phone lock automatically, without having to use the buttons. Go to Settings and select Auto-Lock - you can select it to look for different durations - you might want to select 1 minute?
Does that help, or did I miss your question?

I'm having the same problem with a Black Macbook C2D 2.4Ghz. Installed Snow Leopard over 10.5.8 and whenever the computer sleeps, it completely hangs on wake. I've installed the system twice and the behavior is the same. Tried pulling each of the RAM sticks. No difference. Anybody else?

  • Display is all snow coming out of Sleep mode

Just replaced a 17" LCD (using the mini-DVI-to-VGA) with a new Acer 24" widescreen LCD (using mini-DVI-to-DVI). After a little fiddling with the profile, I've got a pretty nice picture. Problem: coming out of sleep mode, the screen is all snow. If I pop the monitor off and on, everything comes back normal. I did NOT have this problem with the older 17". This is more of an annoyance than a major issue, since just a couple of hits of the on-off button correct it. But it ain't right, so I'm hoping I can fix it for good. It happens whether the Mini goes to sleep by itself or if I put it to sleep. I don't know if it's a DVI issue, monitor issue, or something goofy with the Mini's video.
I did a search and found similar issues, but not exactly the same, and saw no suggested resolutions that fixed them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks ...
    Ed

The 9400M device driver on our Macs appears to be really bad.
My buddy tried to put a Sharp LCD projector on the external port on his Mac laptop, which also had a Nvidia 9400M, and it was not usable. The picture kept coming and going. The projector screen would go blank, then a picture would come up, go blank, and then the picture would come back again, over and over. Being an experienced Mac, PC, and Linux user, I attempted to help him get it working using the display properties page in the System Preferences. Nothing helped.
I'm having similar troubles with the second port on my 9400M on my new Mac mini.
The primary display is fine. I have a 24" Acer LCD on the miniport to DVI converter for my second display, and it works most of the time, however the picture goes to snow fairly often, and blacks out sometimes, too. It usually comes back. Occasionally, I have to power cycle the LCD to get the picture back.
Seeing similar problems with two different DVI display devices, when these devices work fine on our PCs, seems to point the problem at the Mac Nvidia display driver.

  • Monitor does not come out of sleep Mac-Mini Mini-DVI to Dual  DVI-D cable

I have an August 2009 Mac-Mini that I'm using with an Apple supplied Mini-DVI to DVI adapter along with a DVI-D Dual Link Cable connect to a Sceptre X7XV-Naga+ LCD monitor.
The monitor is going into sleep mode on its own with no way to disable this feature on the monitor itself. I've disabled sleep mode on the Mac-Mini in the power setting in System Preferences.
When in sleep mode and I move the mouse or press a key, the monitor will not come out of sleep mode. From other posts, I read that the issue might be that I wasn't using a Dual-Link DVI-D cable, so I bought one and installed such a cable. That has not resolved the problem. The monitor will not come out of sleep mode. When I have the monitor connected with a mini-display port to VGA adapter instead of a DVI-D cable, it will come out of sleep mode every time.

I know it's a year later, but I'm not finding much through search.
I have the same exact problem.  Difference being I'm using an iMac with 10.7.5.
Same video board and monitor - ATI Radeon HD 6750M video card connected via DisplayPort to Samsing S24A850DW.
I've tried two different mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables and no change.
I think I read that 10.8.3 might fix the issue.  Anyone that can confirm that, or has another solution?

Paragon even has non-destriuctive conversion utility if you do want to change drive.
Hard to imagine using 3TB that isn't NTFS. Mac uses GPT for default partition type as well as HFS+

  • Is normal at power mac make noise from the optical drive?

when I power , the mac make some noise from the optical drive , I guess, This is normally? this noise just appear when I update my Mac to Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    Thank you everyone!

Normal, normal, normal. Don't know the reasoning behind it - I suppose the MBP is trying to load anything that might be in the drive at startup. Had me confused for awhile, way back when...

  • Why does my MAC sometimes crash when coming out of sleep mode?

My mac freezea sometimes when coming out of sleep mode, and occasionally the screen will go black. At other times I will be using the MAC and it will just freeze. The only way to get out of it is to kill power and reboot. It seems to be happening more frequently.
It was suggested that I fix permissions and start in sleep mode. This has helped in the past, and I am going to do it again now. I also recently upgraded to 10.6.8, and after that the crashes were fewer, but now they are increasing again.
I am including a log of the recent crash a few minutes ago.

Okay thanks, but I am a newbie who is not a very tech kind of a person. The only periphals I have are a kodak camera dock, a Canon 310 copier/fax/scanner and a pair of altec speakers. How do I determine  if they all have drivers for my MAC? They all seem to work okay, if that is a sign, though the Kodak camera Dock is a bit slow. How also do I determine if they are Apple energy compatible? With each of these peripherals, do I simply disconnect them from my MAC one at a time to see if there improvement?

  • Mac crashes after coming out of sleep mode

    Hi,
Sorry - I'm not good with computers.  Last time I posted this someone was really helpful.  Does the below allow any further info on why my Mac comes out of sleep, then after a second reboots fully?

Boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then uninstall all of them and reinstall them, one at a time.. If KP, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by Rember.  See

After installing OC X Snow leopard my Mac won't go to sleep. unless I close everything out.  It wasn't like that before the "upgrade".   I have looked at the Energy saving icon and everything looks OK.  How do I fix it?  Thanks

    OK I solved it.
    I followed instructions from http://superuser.com/questions/214943/what-is-preventing-my-macbook-from-sleepin g/409481/
Go to Utilities in the Applications folder and open the "Terminal" app.
Type pmset -g and hit Enter
If "sleep" has 0 next to it and the words "imposed by" or "prevented by ; The number next to the imposed by is the process ID causing the problem. Copy that number.
Type ps -e | grep <process ID here> and hit Enter. This will list all running processes that have that ID (will also include the grep process)
For me it turned out to be Internet Sharing enabled that prevented my MBP from sleeping.
