Mac mini 10.4 will not start help me please!!!

Please help somebody. I've tried to turn my mac mini on today and it's suddenly decided that it doesn't want to play any more!
I keep getting the grey screen and a message coming up saying that i need to reset.
I have followed all the options of taking out printers etc, safe booting, resetting PRAM etc etc.
All I have left to try now is re installing from the software CDs.
But that's where my problem gets worse. I've been pulling my house apart for hours but cannot find my CDs anywhere.
Does anybody now how or where I could get replacement tiger CDs?
Thanks for Reading.

While performing disk maintenance is advised from the boot install discs of
the correct version Mac OS X your computer has installed, it may be possible
to resolve a few startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility
and also attempt some repairs with a command known as fsck.
The latter does not require the boot disc version of Disk Utility to perform a
few basic functions, it does however require using a single-user startup.
In Tiger 10.4.x, it is always better to be able to use the correct Disk Utility on
the 10.4 booted installer disc; since fsck is not as thorough.
"Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility & fsck"
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417 - an Apple Support knowledgebase article.
This won't fix disk drive corruption, or directory failures; other disk utilities
are good at doing that; and the installer disc's Disk Utility is a primary tool.
There are third-party disk utilities that can do several specific things the
included Disk Utility on bootable install disc generally won't.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • New HD and new motherboard on Mac Mini and OSX will not start.

Long story but will do my best to keep it short...
Purchased Mac mini #1 at CompUSA years back and bought their extended warranty. Mini died 2+ years later which coincided with CUSA going out of business. Problem was a flashing folder with the Mac logo and a "?" at startup. My CUSA store was closing out and would not service my machine and gave me a phone number for the outsourced warranty/repair department. The tech took my info and decided a new HD was in order. I rec'd the new HD in the mail and a local tech came out and installed it (but refused to test it). After the tech left the same problem was found. Called warranty department immediately (literally 5 minutes later) and they siad they would send another HD as well as a mother board which I recieved a few days later. However, this time the local tech never showed back up and after a few weeks of calling the warranty number went dead. We ended up getting a new Mac mini which has been running fine since.
My daughter needed a computer so I figured I would give it a shot. It was actually very easy to replace the HD and MB. I tried starting the mini and it powers up but I got the same flashing folder so I put in the OS intall disc and after I select the language, I get a prompt that says "This software cannot be installed on this computer". I am using the original discs that came with this particular mini. I cannot get disc #1 out of the drive now but disc #2 says "Mac OSX Install Disc 2", "includes Mac OS9.2", and Disc version 1.3 2Z691-5533-A" on it. The mini itself says Mac mini 1.25G4/512MB/40GB/Combo/Modem on the underside.
Is this due to the fact that the entire inside of the Mini is new and now not compatible with the original software? How would I know what software to buy? Am I better off just taking it somewhere to get serviced or calling it a total loss? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

One the one hand I am being told that my OS discs are not working because they are unique (or keyed) to the original machine and since that machine essentially no loger exists due to repalacing the MB, I will need to purchase new software with a new license agreement.
It is true that computer specific install software is specific to the software with which it shipped. However replacing the logic board means that the new logic board is part of the computer. Unless the logic board was not an exact replacement, it should not make a difference; the original disks should work. In other words it has to do with the hardware not the license. The software license agreement allows the installation of a certain OS to one computer at a time, unless you have a multi-user license such as a family pack, which allows installation in up to five computers in the same household. The original computer specific software can be installed on a single computer no matter how many times. If that OS in that computer has been upgraded to a later OS, that installer can be used to install to another computer of the identical model so long as it is not simultaneously installed elsewhere. However, even then, it can technically be installed on another computer of the same model although installation of a single user licensed software will be a violation of the terms of the Software License Agreement.
The second opinion was that the original mini was equippmed with a powerpc processor and that the new MB I received is equipped with an intel processor.
True. Models of the mini released in 2005 and Early 2006 have PowerPC processors. Late 2006 and later have Intel processors.
Therefore, that pesron recommended that I purchase OSX 10.5 Leopard as this OS will cover both of those processors.
    Partly true.
    i. If your mini was released with Tiger it will support OS X 10.5x and later. If it was released in Early 2009 with Mac OS X 10.5.6 (9G2030) it will only support versions of Leopard earlier than 10.5.6 and, certainly OS X 10.6x.
ii. It will only both computers if you have a multi-user license.
iii. New Leopard installers will only install on your old mini if the original installer itself was the problem. If the problem is elsewhere, it is not quite as certain. Unfortunately there is no sure way to know that unless you buy the Full Retail Version of Leopard and attempt installing it.

  • MAC MINI (Intel 2GHz version) - NOT STARTING!!!

I have a MacMini Intel 2.0Ghz which I barely used. . . I thought the other day to fix it on another TV perhaps it would be used more in the living room area. . . But it would not start up. . . I am not sure what happened. Tried another adaptor and still same. . . Tried RESTING SMC but still same. . . So some told me is the LOGIC BOARD!!!! Shoooooooooot!!!! can it be the LOGIC BOARD burns so quick!?!?! Kindly if you had similar experience or know what could be going on, please let me know. Thanks.

My second Intel Mac Mini will not start after a normal shutdown. No response or sound. My first dead mini was 3 months past warranty and they said it is the logic board. When a logic board is half the cost of a new one it is hard to justify. I now may have to get a new logic board to be able to retrieve the data on the two mini hard drives. I would welcome any suggestions. Should a buy a new mini and use it to retrieve the data on the two dead mini hard drives or just get a new logic board? Yes, I tried re-setting the SMC. Is it possible the internal battery is causing the problem?

  • Mac book pro (2008)will not start up,command-v gives (error) Import:Importer start failed for 89(kr:268435459)invalid destination port)

    will not start up.
    tried Command-v
    message reads
(error) Import:Importer start failed for 89 (kr:268435459)invalid destination port)

First, uninstall "SuperTV" (whatever that is) according to the developer's instructions. It isn't working and it's filling the log with noise.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Mac Mini - Disc Warrior - Will not respond to new startup Disc

    Problem:
I ran disc warrior and rebuilt and replaced the directory simply as maint and to deal with a few crash issues. After quitting Disc Warrior I held the option key (on a new low profile Apple Keyboard - wired) to open startup disc assistant. Computer continues to boot from the disc. I cannot find a single way to change the startup disc from within Disc Warrior either.
I then determined that there is no power going to the keyboard until after the time period needed when holding the option key or even trying to use the firmware keyboard shortcut. I determined this by pressing the caps lock key. The green light on the caps lock does not come on until well after the initial startup sound.
Is there a way to open terminal when the computer is booted from a disc? Is there a way around this? I've tried unplugging every peripheral except the keyboard and the power issue still persists.
No matter what I do, the computer still boots from the disc. I tried opening system prefs from the apple menu but it is grayed out.
Any help would be great. Thanks

Unfortunately, this seems to be an issue with the new aluminum keyboards: they do not seem to allow you to access the Startup Manager. Do you have a wired mouse? If so, you could plug it directly to the Mini (just to be safe), start the Mini, press and hold the mouse button right after the startup chime until the CD ejects. The Mini should then boot to Mac OS X.
If you have an Intel Mini, it may be even easier: pressing and holding your Apple Remote's "menu" button right after the startup chime should have the same effect as using the Option key on a keyboard.

  • Mac Mini (PowerPC version) will not boot - or reinstall...

All of a sudden my MacMini is playing up. It will not boot. I have tried leaving it overnight and reinstalling the OS to no avail.
It boots from CD and reads the install disc, but it hangs everywhere for ages. It verifies the install DVD - then just fails to install. And I have tried installing to external USB drives too with the same result.
I have run DiscWarrior twice and that sees no problems...any ideas? Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Neil

  • HP Mini 2133 notebook will not start up but recharging light works and on off and hard disk light

My HP Mini 2133 will not show anything on the screen however the power light and hard drive lights all work and the fan comes on and it will charge up anyone help

It could be the power supply, shorted device of any kind attached (bad printer, flash drive, keyboard, mouse, network connection), memory problem, video card fan not spinning and the video card could have overheated, bad capacitors (rounded or leaking a brown or dark substance). The first think you should do is make sure it is not under warrantee.  If it is, contact HP.  If it isn't, remove the cover and inspect the board for bad capacitors, fans not turning, disconnect all non essential items like the hard drive, DVD, floppy if you have one, all external devices (yes the monitor) and turn on the computer. Does it appear to stay on? If yes, shut it down by holding in the power button for 5 or more seconds or flipping the power switch on the power supply or pulling the plug. Connect the monitor and then one item at a time leaving the hard drive with your important data as the last item. If it didn't stay on. Try to use only one piece of memory and try each memory slot, try the next piece etc. If that doesn't work, the best guess is the power supply (if you have an ohm meter - test the power supply first).

  • HT1338 I bought a new Mac Mini and tried to pair my keyboard with the Mac Mini. They will not pair via Bluetooth. What is wrong?

I have recently bought a Mac Mini and tried to pair the new apple wireless keyboard with the Mac but after trying 6 times no luck. What can I do about this?

    try this method:
You need at least a USB mouse. If you don't get any option to pair a keyboard, click through the setup until you get to the "Create Your Computer Account" screen, right click in any of the text fields and select Substitutions --> Show Substitutions.  From there click on text preferences.  The preferences pane will popup and from there you can just click the back button (next to show all) to get to the full preferences menu.  Next click on keyboard, then select setup bluetooth keyboard and you're golden.
