Mac Mini 2009 issues

Hi,
Just bought a mac mini last week for my music studio. I upgraded it to 4gb of memory myself and installed 10.6.1
The mini connects up to the following devices
usb:
-Ext 1tb HD
-Midisport 8x8
-Midisport 4x4
-Midisport Oxygen 8 keyboard
-Roland MC-808 Groovebox
-Mac small keyboard
-Mouse
-USB 2 ext powered hub
firewire
-Presonus FP10
The problems I am having
1) When turning on the power at the wall and then pressing the mac power button (after any amount of time) the mac will often not power up. If I remove the mac's power supply unit from the power, wait, reconnect it will usually power up.
2) When I boot up the mac continues to set the internal sound as the default input/output rather than my FP10 which is annoying!
3)The midisport 8x8 continues to flash (no connection) and is unreliable (used on prev systems no problem).
Can anyone suggest whats going on?
Thanks!

Unfortunately that isn't possible in this case (all the time) but I will test it temporarily set up this way. I was wondering if it was struggling with the amount of USB devices, will also try unplugging them all and seeing if it still happens.
Seems odd how I have to pull the power out of the mac for a while and then back in before it powers up (regardless of if the psu is connected to the wall or not). Doesnt sound like a faulty PSU but im open to being told it is
Also, FYI with the midisport it has had the firmware update (new chips) applied and was working with them under windows xp on a different box.

  • Expanding the Mac Mini (2009) over due?

I, and I guess many more, need to discuss the expansion of the current Mac Mini (2009). By it's very design the MM depends on expansion.
Currently discussion of the 2009 MM expansion issues are taking place in the 'prior to 2009 MM expansion' sub-forum.
I feel the introduction of a dedicated sub-forum for this is particularly important given the differences between the current and previous models, and the introduction of the server version.
Please will someone consider this request?

Thank you, that wasn't intuitive! but once you know, it's quite easy. All I have to do is remember it!
You can also just click the "quotes mark" icon in the Reply window (it's in the line of icons - B, I, U, etc.). That will quote the post to which you're replying, as in this post, and you can then edit as you desire.

Thank you Dave. I expect once you are used to it manual, is a easy.

  • Mac Mini Overscan issue 10.6.2 Samsung 42" Plasma

I connected my 2009 Mini OS10.6.2 to my PN42A450 via HDMI.
The top menu bar is mostly missing, so I then tried a using SwitchResX to make some modifications based on a few postings that I found online. The program then wouldn't let me save my settings once I figured I was getting close (I guess since it is a 10 free trial, and I had to reboot ten or so times) So I am still standign with the same issue.
I am willing to purchase SwitchResX, if I know for sure this issue can be corrected with my model TV.
I've seen the tons of posts where other people have the same issue on other TV brands or sizes. So I am just looking to see if anyone else found a resolution to this issue, and if it was by using SwitchResX, what the custom settings used were for the Front Porch, Back Porch, etc....
Any information would be helpful, I really purchased this with the intent to use it with the TV, and not another monitor.

Before messing with the resolution of the TV, you should first just try to change one setting on the Mac Mini:
Click on SYSTEM PREFERENCES and then DISPLAYS and the OPTIONS tab, and unselect OVERSCAN. That was enough to resolve the issue fully for me on a MAc Mini 2009 and Sony HDTV.

  • Mac Mini 2009 SL 6.0.1 won't sleep with Wake on Demand turned on...

I'm having an issue where my Mac Mini 2009 won't go to sleep at all when I have Wake on Demand turned on. I have been manually making it go to sleep and then loath and behold its back on a few minutes later. I know it's supposed to turn on once every two hours or so, but my Mini appears to not be sleeping at all after it turns back on. I thought this feature was supposed to save me electricity and money, not the opposite. I also have the Mac to go to asleep after 5 minutes. It's not doing that either. I haven't checked the logs to see what's going on. Any ideas?

Nope. I did change a few settings and the mac now manages to sleep. However, it wakes a few minutes later and then eventually goes back to sleep. This process cycles.
I found some good info on this site...

I basically just went into the terminal and with root privileges did a "pmset -a ttyskeepawake 0" which turns off the possibility of a remote login event.
Because my initial error message also was saying something about my airport I assumed it might be worth turning on AirPort on the Mini and forcing it not to make any connections to my AirPort Extreme station. At this point, I have turned off AirPort to see what it does with just the ttyskeepawake option turned off.
I might try a PMU reset to see if that has any effect.
Another thing that comes to mind is I have the Mac Mini hooked up to a Denon AV Receiver and then to an HDTV via a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Perhaps, the Denon is waking it up?

  • Mac mini (2009) does not work for s-video input on my  tv

    Hi,
I have a new mac mini (2009) and I want to use like a media center. I have an adapter at MiniDisplay port to s-video to connect to my tv. I do not have digital inputs on the tv, I only have s-video, rca and scart. When I plug in s-video or RCA I have no image on TV. The adapter I have is the original apple store. Can you help solve the problem? I do not like having to change the tv.

  • Windows 7 on Mac Mini 2009

    Hi
I did install Win 7 64 usisng bootcamp app on my SL installation.
Win 7 works fine, but the Boot Camp driver from my SL DVD wont install. It quits with an requester saying:
'boot camp x64 is unsuported on this computer model'
I checked sveral times now the support and readmes. The Mac Mini 2009 is supported. How can I install the 3.0 driver from my SL DVD?
Message was edited by: Helge Schwarz

    quick answer:
    When you are in Windows
create folder ("Apple Boot Camp Drivers" for instance)
copy the contents off the OS X DVD \Bootcamp
    navigate to \Apple\Drivers\Bootcamp64
Instead of just Open or run,
control + click and choose "troubleshoot compatibility"
chalk it up to weak support for Windows on Mac etc
PS: the error message? made it title, and it gets asked regularly.

lllaass speaks the truth. Macs have always been "plug & play" with everything except cameras. That's the one area where you MUST have compatible hardware or you're simply S.O.L.

  • After changing my mac mini 2009 with a mac mini late 2012, and using Time machine for the reinstallation, Lightroom is operational but Photoshop elements is said to have a license no more valid (code error 150:30). I tried all solution I found to no avail

After changing my computer from a mac mini 2009 to a late 2012 version, all reloaded with Time machine, Lightroom works fine but Photoshop elements refuses to start (error code 150:30; "license no more valid"...). No solution found on the internet works. Any advice ? possibility to reload the application (I have kept the number of license etc.) ? Thanks in advance to anyone who could help.

Alain Picard this error often occurs due to incorrect file permissions or corruption of licensing data during the Time Machine restore.  What version of Photoshop Elements were you using?  I would recommend that you remove and reinstall it using the uninstaller located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.

  • 3 displays on Mac Mini (2009)

I know this has been discussed and there is stuff out there on this, but I need clarification.
I have a Mac Mini (2009) and currently have separate 24" dell monitors attached for the dual display. I want to add a third monitor, also 24" with same resolution (1900x1200).
what is the best way to do this to extend the desktop across the 3 monitors, rather than having a mirror on one? Will a DVI splitter only give me mirrored images on 2 of the 3 monitors? Is there a special adapter or cable I can use to get two out of one of the ports on the Mini and one on the other to come up with the 3 displays and extended desktop?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide on this.

If you don't need high performance on the third monitor, then a usb adapter might be an economical way to go:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/VIDU2DVIA/
This would give you 3 displays and an extended desktop, AFAIK.
The specs (Supports up to 2048 x 1152) suggest you'd come up just shy of 1920x1200. I suggest contacting macsales (Other World Computing) as they have good tech support.
A splitter would only mirror the displays shared on the splitter.

  • Can not get Samsung 22" LED TV to work with Mac Mini (2009), 'No Signal' message. any suggestions?

I've just purchased a Samsung 5000series 22" LED TV to use with my Mac Mini (2009). I'm connecting using VGA with VGA adapter to MacMini. The TV is reading an error message saying there's no signal. Already tried with a 32" LG and it worked, as well as with a Dell moniter but can't seem to get this Samsung to work... PLEASE HELP!!

That is not totally true. Instead of using an analog VGA connection, try using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and HDMI cable with that Samsung Monitor.

  • Mac-mini 2009 airdrop not compatible in Lion??

Airdrop doesn´t work in Lion with Mac mini 2009 model.
Anyone thiks ther will be a firmware update or anything similar to fix this problem??

From the little bit of research I have done on this subject, AirDrop compatibility comes down to specific versions of the wifi chipset  (Atheros / Broadcom) in the computer needing to support simultaneous networking via infrastructure mode (most common) and ad-hoc.
On those that do not support it, as it is a chipset hardware limitation, there will be no firmware update fix.
Without some type of a software fall back in AirDrop (think Bonjour sharing on the local network) a substantial number of recent systems are missing out on AirDrop.
I am still puzzled why Apple would use the compatible chipsets in some of their notebook systems as far back as 2008 and leave them out for another 2 generations on other systems like the mac mini and macbook air (mid-late 2010). It must have been some engineering and space limitation.
Copied from Apple here, for discussion clarity for other readers:
AirDrop supports the following Mac models:
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
        MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)
        iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
It does not look like my spring 2010 Mac mini is supported.

    Hi,
Have you tried some of these? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
The first things I would try would be to press shift during start up, this will boot into safe mode.
I think you'll need to purchase a copy of Snow Leopard to re-install the OS.
There's another couple of suggestions here; http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417 where you can boot into single user mode and look at repairing disk permissions if that's the problem.
I would hope that if you could boot into safe mode or single user mode, then that may automatically rectify your current issue. If not, then I'm pretty certain that a fresh install will be the ultimate answer.
