Mac Mini 2011 HDMI audio in Windows 7 64 bit

Hello all,
I thought I would share lessons learned from my Boot Camp install on a Mac Mini.
My config:  2011 Mac Mini 2.3, Intel 3000HD video
       .   .       upgrade to 8GB ram
Samsung 8000 series LED TV connected with HDMI
Memorex external BluRay writer(USB only power)
For Windows 7 install, I tried installing with the 64 bit DVD but this failed as documented elsewhere.
Instead, setup with USB drive, follow instructions available in bootcamp
After partitioning drive with boot camp and reboot, install Windows 7 with install wizard.
When asked whether to allow automatic updates say 'no', then complete installation and run boot camp tools for Windows.
Because the network driver gets installed prior to the Intel video driver, Windows will install the Windows Update Intel video driver which breaks HDMI audio.
When auto updates are off, the Intel video driver that is correct gets installed last.  HDMI audio works with this driver.
Apple should install the Intel video driver first and it would solve this problem.
I now have full blown 3D BluRay support on the MacMini with TruHD audio, fantastic!

UPDATE:
I just discovered a good clue on my problem.
I always use my A/V Receiver to connect HDMI devices.
I tried connecting directly my Samsung TV to the Macbook and Intel (HD) Graphics Audio recognized the TV and a new "Playback Device" appeared in the Windows menu.
So the currently problem is that (just in Windows 7, since in OS X HDMI audio is working with DENON A/V Receiver):
Intel HD 3000 graphics is not detecting <Denon A/V Receiver> as an "HDMI audio-capable device"
My denon A/V receiver ( DENON AVR-1712 ) is sucessfull detected by my netbook with Intel G45 Express Graphics, but not working if i use Intel HD 3000 graphics on my MBA.

  • Mac mini 2011 HDMI audio issues

What are the known issues with HDMI audio with Lion and the new Mac minis?
I'm in the process of swapping out an older Mac mini that was connected to my home theater (Pioneer SC-05 reciever, Pioneer TV), with a new 2011 i5 Mac mini.  The old Mac required use of a minidisplay port to HDMI adapter, and a toslink adapter to get audio to receiver through an optical cable.  Previous setup was working fine, but with the new 2011 Mac mini swapped in with the direct HDMI connection to the Pioneer SC-05 receiver, I'm not getting 5.1 audio.  The video is fine and is being passed through to the TV, but the receiver is only doing dolby prologic audio, even though the movies are Dolby Digital 5.1.
I'm using Plex .934 on the Mac.  Audio on the Mac is set to HDMI.  Plex is set to Dolby (AC3) digital capable receiver, etc.

Hi All, I have the new 2011 macmini to replace the 2010 version. I had issues with HDMI sound as well, but it turns out the issue lies in having AND the HDMI cable in AND a toslink/headphones cable.
In the 2010 version you could select the Sound output to go via HDMI or Analog.
In the 2011 version (if you have plugged-in a cable in the headphones) the HDMI sound output is impossible to choose. It is only selectable when you have unplugged the headphones cable. So what is the use of the Output settings if you cannot select anything if you have more than 1 output.....
The guy form AppleCare told me this is a firmware bug that 'should' be solved.....
When I unplug the headphones and start a movie in Movist, I have DTS and DD. With VLC it does not work, but that has to do with the upgrade to Lion (see the VLC forum).
I assume the firmware upgrade will come soon otherwise I will be VERY dissapointed in Apple quality this time and will certainly stop buying new Apple gadgets when they come out. As this was the reason why I switched from Microsoft to Apple......

  • Mac Mini 2011 boot camp freezes on loading windows screen.

I bought my mac mini 2011 server, have upgraded it to mountan lion and mountain lion server and wanted to install windows on it. I have microsoft windows 7 professional OEM system builder edition on a dvd, a LG portable super multi blue rewriter, a corded mac keyboard with number pad, a HP mouse, and a hdmi monitor. I have not upgraded any features on the mac, it is original.
I updated all software, well except a printer driver that I don't have the printer of anymore, and ran boot camp. I tried to partition my entire hard drive for it, however that did not work. I then tried to partition half of the first hard drive and that did not work either. I tried unpluging the mouse and keyboard and it still won't work. I bought the copy off of amazon and it appears to be legal. I just always get stuck on the "Windows is loading" screen. The loading bar, a white band across the bottom of the screen, always goes across the whole screen once fast, then makes it's way to the farther left side of the screen and then hangs there indefiniteley.
Any suggestions? more questions about the situation?

Mini mini, there are problems with mini and esp. server version.
What I think others have said: cannot use OS X Server, had to use Mac OS X client
External LG is not supported. Doesn't come with an internal SuperDrive though does it?
    The system builder is fine.
Just one story (there are others, I need to collect all the "Mac Mini Tips" together, I can't remember and keep them straight otherwise.

When I connect my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion to a TV via HDMI and an earphone cable is plugged in, it´s not possible to choose sound out via hdmi, as opposed to connection via the minidisplay port. Anybody knows how to fix this?

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

  • WiFi slow when running Windows 7 on Mac Mini (2011)

    Hi,
I have just bought a Mac Mini (2011) and used Boot Camp for installing Windows 7 as well. However I am experiencing some problems with the WiFi when running Windows. The speed is less than 10% of what it should be. I have tried connecting a network cable and then everything is running fine. When booting into OS X Lion there are no problems with running WiFi. I have tried to rightclick on the network adapter and select update drivers but it says that the driver installed is up to date.
    Any ideas?

Apparently it was a router issue. When I connected my old Cisco router as an extended access point both the Mac OS and Windows session connected as supposed to. I made a factory reset of the router provided by my ISP, configured it again and the problem apparently seemed to be solved.
However overnight the problem occured again - I swithed the router off and on again and was able to connect. I noticed in the DHCP log that when running Mac OS the computername "My-Mac-Mini" is sent to the router with the MAC address of the network card - when running Windows it is the machine name I entered during the Windows installation. Not sure if that is confusing the router from my ISP but after I changed the computername in Mac OS the connection seems stable.

  • On the mac mini 2011 how can I run windows 7 without the optical drive, On the mac mini 2011 how can I run windows 7 without the optical drive

On the mac mini 2011 how can I run windows 7pm bootcamp without an optical drive.  I watch lots of football on sop cast and other such windows based programmes but can't work out how to do it.

Actually Windows can be installed and booted from an external drive if the drive is connected eSATA (external SATA), since the drive is treated as if it's an internal HDD. I used the same method previously to dual-boot from 2 different HDD instead of partitioning.
Most PC motherboards come with them as standard so it's pretty much plug and play but I don't recall seeing a recent Mac with eSATA connectivity though, so that might not be an option for you.

  • Can I install Windows XP SP1 with Bootcamp on my new Mac Mini 2011 i7 ?

Can I install Windows XP SP1 with Bootcamp on my new Mac Mini 2011 i7 ?

Baiscally if your Mini came with Lion Pre-installed new then No you can't use XP.
The Lion installed computers no longer support XP OR Vista via Apple's Boot Camp.
For one thing Apple only supported XP with SP2 in order to install it on pre Lion computers.
If the Mini had come pre-installed new with say 10.6 then you could have installed XP and still of been able to upgrade to Lion without any issues as you already have the drivers for XP installed. Lion only has the drivers for W7.

  • Mac Mini has Distorted audio over HDMI

My brand new mid-2010 Mac Mini has distorted audio over HDMI. Ideas? Tried multiple connections, devices, but the Mini's audio flattens and distorts high pitch sounds. Really distracting, makes movie watching impossible. Thinking about returning it.

Update: After a bunch of playing around, it appears that I do, in fact, have audio output. What is missing are the up and down volume chirps. I can do without that.
Now, anyone know how to fix the Logitec webcam's input volume...?

  • Mac Mini 2011 screen blacks out during heavy screen activity

I have a Mac Mini 2011 i5 2.3Ghz with Intel HD video.  It's connected to a 30" LCD 2560x1600 (Dell WFP3008) via mini-DP to DP cable and a 22" LCD 1920x1080 (Samsung LCD TV) via HDMI to HDMI cable.
For the first few weeks I had it connected to the 30" only and it was fine.  Then I hooked up the Samsung as a second display and the problems started.
The problem is that the Dell blacks out briefly, then comes back.  It is not "drawing" the screen black, the signal to the Dell gets disrupted momentarily so the monitor has no signal so it goes black.  Then it resyncs with the signal and the display is back.  This only happens to the Dell, during the disruption, the Samsung image stays put.  I know it is a signal disruption because the Dell shows a displayport icon showing that it has just resynced to that input.
The problem happens more frequently when more things are going on; like if I have a window or multiple windows playing video, then the disruption happens more.  If I disconnect the Samsung, it happens less.  It could even happen if a web browser window taking up a large portion of the 30" screen does a full page update, it will disrupt.  If I am running Adobe Lightroom, it seems to happen more also.
When it happens it seems like messages like this appear in the console, although i can't say they are directly correlated:
6/1/12 8:28:46.000 PM kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero
I'm thinking perhaps the mini is running low on memory since the 2560x1600 is pretty high res and then add the 1080p screen and stuff being updated, perhaps it runs out of memory and disrupts the signal while it garbage collects?  Pure speculation.
Has anybody else seen this and have any clues on how to resolve it?  Thanks.

I should clarify that when I say perhaps the mini is running low on memory, I mean low on shared video memory, since the computer has 16GB installed.  I'm not sure how to view or test shared video memory allocation.

  • Opinions about if Mac Mini 2011 works ok with VGA monitors

    Hi Community,
I have a old HP PC, I want to buy my first Mac Mini and used the keyboard, mouse and VGA monitor (Mod. HP Pavillion mx50) that I have.
Before I purchase the new Mac Mini 2011 and Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter, I would like to know if it works ok with my old components, specially with the VGA monitor? I've read on this Community there some persons have monitors problems.
I don't want spend my money and then have problems with the Mac Mini.
    Thanks in advance,

MiniDisplayPort-VGA adapters.  Available in the online store, at Apple stores, or at BestBuy/MicroCenter/Fry's.  Plugs into the Thunderbolt port.
Usually works without issue.  But then I use monitors made by LG and Samsung.  Others use lesser known brands or models know to have quirks and encounter issues.
    Some things to watch for:
Soem adapters have too much plastic coveing the "connection plate", and the cable cannot seat fully.  If you just look at one that has too much plastic, you will know what I am talking about.
VGA signals from Macmini are not strong enough to get through mutliple adpaters.  If you want a VGA signal, buy 1 VGA adapter.  If you want a DVI signal, buy only 1 DVI adapter.  Do not get a DVI adaper, than add a mid-line converted to change the DVI adapter to a VGA port.
If you plan to run Windows under BootCamp, the Windows driver for the Tunderbolt port does NOT output snalog (VGA), just digital (DVI, HDMI).  So if you plan to use VGA to display Windows output, run Windws under "VM software" (Parallels or VM Fusion) so that OSX can make the VGA signal for you.

  • Flash player always using software video decoding in Mac Mini 2011 w/HD6630M

    Hello,
I have Mac Mini 2011 model with AMD Radeon HD6630M graphics.
Everything works perfectly on my system..games, videos in VLC,Quicktime..
Only problem is flash videos on youtube are always using software video decoding but using accelerated video rendering
Even in full screen or window mode its always the same!
I've tried all browsers..Opera, FireFox, Chrome, Safari..all have the same issue!
Even re-installed OS X Mavericks. Same Result!
I've used flash 11.9 & the Beta 12.xx as well..ran the flash uninstaller..nothing it just says the same!
I've checked the Hardware acceleration box & everything. Nothing seems to work!!
Seems to be an issue in Flash player with AMD graphics cards on OSX??
    Please FIX!
What else am I supposed to do?? Please FIX your app!

Well i have about 30 days left before the return period is up for the Marantz. I just did a complete restore of my mac mini just about an hour ago. I havent noticed the problem yet but I've only been using it for an hour or so.
I suppose using it without my Marantz would be a good idea. If i see the screen flash out again now, i'll try just connecting to the tv and painfully suffer through the audio on my tv speakers. lol

  • Mac Mini 2011 Fan is Noisy During Streaming Video

Mac mini 2011 2.3 GZ. When I watch Youtube streaming video fullscreen or video chat with someone on Skype, the fan kicks into high gear and gets really noisy. Fan gets to about 5200 rpm and CPU up to 75C. I don't get the heat or fan noise during avi/Quicktime/VLC playback, or an Skype, audio alone. I don't recall this on my 2009 Mac Mini. Is this normal?
Only variable is an 8 gigabyte RAM upgrade.

It's possible that hardware accelleration is not
enable for Adobe Flash.  Right click on the You
