Mac Mini 4gb RAM installed; 2gb showed

Hello everybody; I've bought a Mac mini (1,83 ghz, 500gb HD 4gb ram) and it's only showing me 2gb of ram. (I know that I usually can put only 2gb in it) my question is: how can I get the full 4gb?

Hi Tom,
while 800MHz RAM should work, there are numerous reports that only one 800MHz module runs successfully, while two of them somehow prevent Macs from starting up.
So my proposal would be to use two 667MHz modules.

  • 07' Mac Mini 4GB Ram Upgrade Not Working.

I have a 2007 Mac Mini (Intel Core 2 Duo) which runs slow with 1GB ram. I purchased two 2GB sticks of ram and replaced the two stock ram sticks previously making 1GB ram - But my Mac Mini will not boot with 4GB ram in it. I tried taking one stick out, leaving one 2GB stick in with no luck, and so I have no other ideas. I was told that this would be no problem, and I installed it all correctly following every procedure necessary.
    Can anyone help me?

Komputerbay ram is sketchy at best, and another user here:http://forums.macrumors.com had the same experience you are having with that memory, the Mac will not even boot.
The memory for Macs has to be very precise, 5300/5400 is not acceptable as a rule.  It must be straight 5300.  If you can, return the memory modules and buy some guaranteed to work with your Mac.  Go to OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com who guarantee their memory to work or your money back.

Does Windows XP 32Bit still use all 4 GB but only showes 3GB?  Or if I want to use that additional 1GB I need XP 64Bit?  If I install x64 will it work with 32 bit applications fine?
"Does Windows XP 32Bit still use all 4 GB but only showes 3GB? "
    no.
"Or if I want to use that additional 1GB I need XP 64Bit?"
    yes.
"If I install x64 will it work with 32 bit applications fine?"
yes. pretty old 16 bit application will refuse to work, also you will need to use x64 drivers.

    what should i do?

OS X 10.8.5 is the latest version of Mountain Lion. The latest version of OS X is Mavericks 10.9.1 which is available as a free download from the Mac App Store. It's not an update to 10.8.5, but a new version of OS X.
If you do upgrade make sure you have tried and tested backup (Time Machine or a clone) that you can restore to the previous state from should you find you need to, for whatever reason.
Edit: Here are the tech specs for Mavericks: https://www.apple.com/osx/specs/

There is a problem on my mac mini. I install windows7 in my mac then i cancelled the installation did not finish..after that i saw the black screen on my monitor untill now the monitor is black..

It maybe trying to boot from the incomplete install.
Try starting your Mac while holding down the Option key, it should then list all the available boot drives including the Mac OS X one. Boot from the Mac one and then you can wipe the damaged PC one or set the Mac to stay booting in to OS X.

    Generally YES.
It's possible to hold separate iTunes library's on a single machine.
Generate two new folders inside the Music folder of the Mini and name them differently; e.g. man and woman.
Copy your whole library into "man" and your wifes into "woman"
Go to sharing in the system settings of the Mini and share the Music folder in your network.
After copying the whole library's to the Mini you may point iTunes to the new location at startup by holding the option key (alt) at the keyboard.
iTunes will then ask you where the library is located.
Point it to the matching library on the Mini.
    That's all.
    Lupunus
PS ... If you both use only the Mini you have to setup a user account for each and just copy the whole library to the Music folder in particular.

  • Hi Guys, I have a problem with Importing Pictures onto my Mac mini with Lion installed by using a Card Reader, What is the problem here so I can get Pictures onto my Computer. ,

    Hi Guys,
I have a problem with Importing Pictures onto my Mac mini with Lion installed by using a Card Reader,
What is the problem here so I can get Pictures onto my Computer. ,

    Hi Noob Søren
There are a few things that are confusing in your question.
As far as I know, you dont have to install Time Machine on this OS as it is already installed for you. You only need to connect a hard drive to your computer via firewire or usb, click on the Time Machine icon, Open Time Machine Preference in the drop down menu and select a disk: your connected hard drive.
You can of course reformat this connected device, partition it into a few volumes to organise data if you so wish.
I find it strange that your mac's hard drive is divided into two volumes... perhaps this was created through bootcamp?
You can access the configuration of your hd through Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities.
Clicking on one of the icons on the right hand panel will bring the details of the contents of your hardDrive and volumes. From there you can decide to erase a partition, reformat etc....
If your hd contains more than one volume, and one of them is empty, you could decide to remove it. Back up all your important data before doing so.
    Hope this helps

  • Mac Mini 10.4 install disk work with a macbook?

    Hello All,
Will my Mac Mini 10.4 install disk work with a Macbook? I believe the model is either a MB061LL/A or MB062LL/A.
    Thank You in advance!

Yes, and possibly the system that disc can install is not Intel compatible. It would have to be a late 2006 model, which was the start of the Intel series of Minis.

  • I recently purchased new Mac Mini with Lion installed. Now I can't get iTunes to sync iCal from my iPod Touch (3rd gen) to my Mini.

I recently purchased a new Mac Mini with Lion installed. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes. Now I can't get iTunes to sync iCal from my iPod Touch (3rd gen) to my Mini. Everything else syncs great, and iCal syncs from my Mini to my Touch. My Touch has the latest iOS installed. I have tried rebooting my Touch, removing the sync calendars option from iTunes>Info and checking it again after applying and closing iTunes, and restarting my Mini. Any help will be appreciated!

i downloaded iWork 09 on my mac mini - how do install it on my two MacBooks?

If you purchased Pages, Numbers or Keynote in the Mac App Store, you can install these applications for free on your other two computers. In them, open the App Store, go to Purchases tab and download them for free. Your MacBooks must be running OS X Lion or Mountain Lion

  • Apple Store purchase being downgraded by new 2010 mac mini 4GB - 2GB

Placed order for mac mini with 4GB RAM option just before the new (2010) mac mini announced. Apple kindly advised I'll be getting the new 2010 mac mini - but with 2GB of RAM - no change to pricing AUD 1100.
    Love the new 2010 mini.
I like my workstation to be as low wattage as possible - but with heaps of RAM. I multi-task to be efficient.
Guess I'll be able to slot 8GB in myself, but would prefer to start with 4GB - it might just be enough.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If your new Mac mini has not shipped, consider calling Apple to upgrade to 4 GB and I suspect you’ll be fine.

  • Mac Mini 2011 - 2.3Ghz - 2GB Ram running Lion Server

    Hi guys.
I’m in a processof deciding whether to buy or not a mac mini.
Since the$599 version comes with Lion, 2.3 GHz i5 and 2GB of ram, is there any problemto upgrade from Lion to Lion Server? Or the server is reserved to the Mac MiniServer.
Since Ialready own one Apple Time Capsule, do you see any inconvenience to put’ it ontop.
    What shouldbe best?
The Timecapsule on top on mac mini or the mac mini on top of time capsule.
Currentlythe time capsule is only a NAS/Switch which means that the radio if off as wellas other components. Bridge Mode. I guess that with the radio off he will warmbut not that high.

Hello, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Mac Mini and RAM upgrade

i have been interested in the Mini for basic computer use since i can hook up to my samsung 32" tv but am also interested in the occasional gameplay. it looks like it has received some pretty good reviews for its size but i am a little confused about something. if i am reading the below links correctly, if i were to increase ram from 1GB to 2GB on the lower model i would get hte 256MB graphics output?
    http://www.macworld.com/article/139273/2009/03/macmini_games.html
^Plus, if you put in 2GB RAM, the mini's graphics will allocate up to 256MB of system RAM for its own use, handy for frame buffering in those complex games.
    and
    http://www.macworld.com/article/139267/2009/03/macmini2009.html
^When we tested those same games with the standard 1GB of RAM installed in the entry-level Mac mini, it suffered about a 15 percent performance hit compared to the same system running with 2GB of system memory, which allows access to the full 256MB allocation of memory for graphics.
i know still not the best machine for gaming, but it is what i really like right now and like i said its occasional.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes if you put in 2GB or greater it will jump to 256MB of RAM. Do yourself a favor and upgrade it to 4GB so you only have to open the thing up once. Also, if you want a larger HDD do it at the same time.
If you need placed to look for RAM:
    [Newegg|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148191] for $52.99, [Crucial|http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=AE7BB1EEA5CA7304] for $65.99, or [Macsales|http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/8566DDR3S4GP > for $64.99.
If you need a hard drive, I've put a link to [320GB, 500GB, 5400 RPM, and 7200 RPM HDDs|http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=Property&Subcategory =380&Description=&Type=&N=2010150380+1035915133&srchInDesc=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=& PropertyCodeValue=359%3A15133&PropertyCodeValue=3097%3A33643&PropertyCodeValue=3 097%3A40009&PropertyCodeValue=355%3A7777&PropertyCodeValue=355%3A7776]. I would personally recommend Hitachi drives as they have the best prices. Also, I'd personally recommend the 7k320 Hitachi.
Plus, at Newegg/Crucial you can get [cash back|http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=DMMneqKtzskNampKdYmMZA%3D%3D].
