Mac Mini Airport Extreme compatible with LEAP?

I'm looking into having our department buy a Mini for some Mac support we offer, and we'll have to use the wireless because nobody has a free port in their cube. Our wireless network uses LEAP authentication, and I'm not sure if the Airport Extreme support this. I checked Cisco's web site for vendor support, and Apple isn't listed there. (Or are their Airport cards manufactured by a 3rd party?)

I did a little more searching, and found that the Airport Extreme is compatible with LEAP.

Apple TV mirroring issues even with Mac mini, airport extreme bought at the end of last year, and an iPad 2

I have the same issue with ATV3 and iPhone 4S. Everything works properly, no buffering issues when watching netflix, vimeo, youtube BUT when I try mirroring even a small 15sec iPhone movie it stutters and buffers and results to a choppy playback..same with larger mp4 files such as 1-1.5GB, buffers forever and never plays, I just re-encoded the same movie to 700MB and plays perfectly..
Why Apple, why?..so close..I can accept the bigger movie files issue, but not being able to playback properly an iPhone movie is funny..I recorded a movie with lower bitrate through Filmic Pro (Economy mode, up to 16Mbps)
    and plays properly.
Is there an upcoming software update going to solve the problem or is it hardware related and therefore not fixable.
Please don't reply with a network related answer, by 2012 we know how to set up our networks and everything else runs flawlessly.
I'll apreciate a fast answer, we love Apple, but if it can't play an iphone movie (or a high quality movie from iTunes) it's just not up to my standards.
    Thanks again.

  • Is Mac mini (G4 PPC) compatible with latest AirPort Express?

    Hi,
I'm trying to help a friend get his Mac mini (PPC) networked up to his ADSL connection. I was intending to use an AirPort express which I would wire to the mini over ethernet, then connect to his main wireless network that way. Would this be OK? Is the AirPort utility compatible with his machine also? Thanks!

You will need to do what is called a Wireless Distribution System setup on the Airport Express for it to share the wireless of another wireless router in the house. That way it will echo the internet to the Mac Mini over ethernet.
Some Mac Mini G4s came with built-in Airport Extreme cards, whereas others you had to get a special build to order Airport Extreme card. The 1.42 Ghz Mac Mini was built-in whereas the 1.25 Ghz had to be build to order. This would only effect if you wanted the Airport Express to have a wireless signal to your Mac Mini.

The bad news is that your Mac is NOT compatible with the AirPort Extreme card.

  • Mac Mini Airport Extreme - Cannot detect any wireless networks

    Hello,
Last week my Mac Mini (Power PC)'s hard disk crashed. So I did a DIY replacement. I managed to re-install all the software, and installed all the latest updates.
However, for some reason, the Airport Extreme is not detecting any wireless network after the re-install.
My own wireless network router is a third-party, which has been working well for the last 2 years. My Window PC and laptop still connects to it fine.
I can see the Airport icon but it doesn't how any detected networks (and there are quite a few in my neighbourhood). I did Apple Hardware Test and it shows the Airport card to be working ok.
    Any help would be wonderful!

It still may be possible that the antenna wire is not placed properly within the Mini. Here are an excerpt of the DIY instructions for installing the wireless antenna. Hope it helps...
    - Make sure that the antenna cables are firmly seated in the mezzanine board.
    - Pass the antenna cables through the gap at the rear of the internal frame.
    - Carefully lower the internal frame down onto the motherboard. Make sure that the wires are routed to the right of the interconnect board.
    - Snap the AirPort antenna onto the black plastic column next to the rear port panel.
    - Tape the AirPort antenna wire to the edge of the DVD drive.

Mac Mini G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Sorry for the cross-post. I posted wrongly in Airport Express previously.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I saw the thread before I posted and I'm hoping this will be solved soon.
The main thing that worries me is that in my case, the Mac Mini is not even seeing any networks - zero in an apartment block where there is at least 5 network on the air at any time

  • Is airport extreme compatible with windows 8?

I have an airport express conected to my network, however I'm planing to buy a new airport extreme. Even though my ariport express works fine with my applec computers, I'm not able to print through it using a Windows 8rt Surface. Does anybody know if the new airport extreme is compatible with windows 8RT?

Hi - the answer is yes - it is compatible - most of the computers in our office use Windows 7 Professional and we have 10 Extremes in the network.

  • Is Airport Extreme compatible with G4 iMac?

I have purchased a Linksys Wireless router. I also have brought home from my office, a Dell PC.
What do I need to get the router to connect to my iMac? Do I need the Airport Extreme Card? Will it work with my PowerPC G4 iMac?

The easiest solution is to cable your iMac's ethernet port to one of the LAN ports on the Linksys router.
If you want the iMac to connect wirelessly to the Linksys wireless router, you will need to install an Airport card into it. Whether or not your "iMac G4" requires the original Airport card (no longer sold by Apple, but available used on EBay) or the Airport Extreme card depends on which exact iMac model you own. See this Apple article: iMac: AirPort- and AirPort Extreme-Ready Models
I'm guessing you probably own one of the first so-called "iMac Flat Panel" models (see this table ) and if so you need an original Airport card.

  • Windows XP client can't connect to AirPort Extreme AP with WEP enabled.

    Hello,
I have big problem with Mac Mini AirPort Extreme working in AP mode with Windows XP client.
Some time ago, AP refuse to connect Windows XP clients (notebook) when WEP is enabled (40/128 bit, same problem), while before that, everything work perfect.
On other hand, iPhone can connect using WEP without an problem.
When WEP is turned off, XP client can connect but this is not acceptable for me.
I must notice that friend of mine have absolute SAME PROBLEM which rise almost at same time few months ago. They have Mac Mini and XP notebook (different then mine) which can not connect with WEP turned on, while his iPod touch work!
I guess that this happened due AirPort Firmware upgrade included in some of Apple software update.
Does anybody have similar problem or know the solution?
    My AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)
    Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.4.16.2
    Current Wireless Network: Mac mini
    Wireless Channel: 11
    Tnx in advance.

Sorry but this is a known issue.
The only solution is to get a real wireless router instead of using your Mac mini as a base station.

You can setup an Airport device using the Apple Airport Utility for iPhone

It's under "Utilities" and the "Top Free" utilities.

  • How do I use a Mac Mini + Airport Express + Time Machine disk to backup another iMac

How do I use a Mac Mini + Airport Express + Time Machine disk to backup another iMac?
The question pretty much says it all.
I have a Mac Mini with an attached 3TB Hard Drive used for Time Machine Backups.
I have an Airport Extreme base station which services that machine plus several others.
I would like to backup my new iMac and a MacBook Pro to the Mac Mini.
What do I need to do on the mini to export that hard drive so that it can be used as a Time Machine target from the other systems?
    All systems are running 10.6.8.

Well you would have to do backups over a network which is much slower and has highest chance of becoming corrupt. I think your best option would be to get an apple time capsule to act as a network and back if thats how you wanna do that

  • Mac Mini Airport Problems

    Hi,
My MacMini is disconnecting very frequently from my home network. Using my MBPI I cam access the internet. So I know the problem is not with the internet service provider or wireless router. I re-started the MacMini and try accessing my home network and get asked by my wifi network password. However it times out and boots me out. Ocassionally, when I manage to connect to the internet I check for Mac software updates but again it times out. Ii seems that the problem is with the Mac Mini Airport. Any ideas?

The values for the mini are very low.
This message gives guidelines for evaluating a signal-to-noise ratio (the signal value minus the noise value):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10329543&start=1
If your noise level is in the middle -90s (a very good value), that would give you a SNR of 10 to 17, which would be considered a low or very low signal. I think the explanation of the mini's connection problems is that it isn't receiving a strong enough signal.
There's a way to use a command-line airport utility to learn the actual noise level. Let me know if you want more details.
Can you move the mini or the base station so that they are nearer to each other? Is there anything on top of or next to the mini that might be blocking the signal that you could move? Can you try rotating the mini to see if that improves the signal?
The ultimate fix would be to connect the mini to your AirPort Extreme with an Ethernet cable, either directly or using some sort of "PowerLine" adapter.

  • Airport Extreme Compatible?

Trying to figure out if my eMac is Airport extreme compatible or not. I'm not sure what model I actually have. I looked up the serial number (N9J) and mine doesn't seem to be listed. So I'm not sure which model it is. It has most of the Ati specs, but it has an Nvidia Geforce card..... Anyone that could shed some light on this for me would be greatly appreciated.

Your eMac is most likely the original model; the original eMac and the ATI Graphics model have very similar specifications. One way of telling is checking the processor speed in the About this Mac menu item; only the original eMac came in a 700MHz configuration, and it did not come in a 1GHz model. For an 800MHz eMac, open the Displays pane of System Preferences and check the resolutions; the original eMac will have a 1152 by 864 resolution while newer eMacs have 1152 by 870. There are some differences in the frequencies for the lowest two resolutions as well. The original eMac cannot accept an AirPort Extreme card.
Edit: based on the information you subsequently posted, your eMac is definitely the original model.
