Mac mini and mavericks

When my Mac Mini wakes up from sleep, the monitor screen is pixellated and the computer won't respond. Has anyone experience this and do you have any suggestions for fixing it? Many thanks.

we tried a few other things and then made an appt at the apple store.We went out and were home fairly quickly,unbelievable imo. They had to completely erase and then reinstall. The test they ran told us it was a software issue so then we knew it was most likely fixable. We brought it home and we seen to be fine.
It was a bad install I guess. I did everything the exact same way but somehow it got locked in this loop.
There was no charge and our helpers were great. I am gonna be install shy for a while though.

Mac.Mini and Mavericks failure

Hey there,I am trying to upgrade a 2011 mac mini to.mavericks. The installer quits with a failure notice and then restarts only to fail again. I am stuck in the loop. Does anyone have any advice on this situation. Thanks for any help and advice.

When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer. The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to access the printer. Any thoughts?

The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to share the printer. Does anyone else have this problem? My printer does not have on-board Wi-Fi but, otherwise, works fine. I shouldn't have to buy a new one. Is there a OS patch out there that would open the printer port for my PC computers?

I'm assuming that on the Mac, the System Preferences -> Sharing -> Printer Sharing -> [X] HP printer -> Everyone can print is selected? That is to say, the Mac will allow anyone to print using the printer, and that you did not try to restrict who can print.
How is your network configured? Bonjour as a protocol will NOT cross a router boundary. If you have 2 or more subnets active with the PCs on one subnet and the Mac on another, that would block the PCs from seeing the Mac.
You could have multiple subnets if you have more than one router, such as an ISP provided broadband modem/router and another WiFi Router. If the PCs are talking to one router and the Mac is talking to another, that could be a 2 subnet situation. The additional routers must be put into bridge mode, which is done differently depending on the router. But the basics are to diable DHCP and NAT services on the secondary router(s) having just one active router on the network.
Also, using Bonjour Browser on my Mac, it is showing me that the printer is being advertised as using Internet Printing Protocol, so if that is something selectable on Windows, maybe you can bypass Bonjour on Windows.

File sharing between Mac Mini and iMac "breaks" after reboot of either device, and won't restore. Why? Running Maverick 10.9.1 on both. File sharing is setup on both. Help.

I'm a new user - recent convert from longtime Windows to Apple. Thought having desktops and computing aligned with phones and tablets would help. Not so far.
I have a MacMini running Mavericks 10.9.1, and an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.1. File Sharing is set up on both. If either device is rebooted for any reason, file sharing from the Mac Mini to the iMac "breaks" and will not easily restart. Various things eventually brings the connection back - usually having to do with checking and unchecking File Sharing, the AFP button, and/or the SMB button on the iMac - but never the same procedure twice in a row. File Sharing from the iMac to the Mac Mini is never disrupted - always comes back up without a problem. Screen Sharing also works between both without fail, and comes up after reboot of either. No problem there. Only difficulty is from Mac Mini to the iMac.
Why? Any ideas?

Should also clarify - usually takes multiple hours of checking/unchecking file sharing settings in order to restore the share between Mac Mini and iMac. NEVER happens automatically.
This is disruptive because I've got the Mac Mini pointing to several file locations on the iMac for various things - photos, music, etc. - and they all hang up unless the share is restored. Real bummer.

Did you use any Nikon software to transfer the photos to your computer's hard disk?

My new mac mini with Maverick does not go to deep sleep even if i press power button or Apple-Sleep mode.

I have my new mac mini with Maverick that does not go to deep sleep even if i press power button or menu Apple-Sleep mode. He goes only to something like stand-by (power lid is on; after i turn off and then turn on the power he does not wake up just starting). I tried "sudo pmset -a hibernatemode X", tried mode 0,1,3, and even 25. nothing helps. he goes to deep sleep (when all data on HDD) only first time after i change hibernatemode couple times and force it to sleep. Today i even tried to force it to sleep (menu Apple-Sleep mode) and NOT turn off the power for whole night, in the morning he is in this "stand-by" mode anyway.
Could anyone help me please? i need it sleep but don't want to keep my power on for whole night.

Mac Mini vs Maverick upgrade

Hi - I've got a Mac Mini and am currently on 10.8.5. My boss has just upgraded to Maverick and I can now no longer access her Pages and Numbers docs. When I try to upgrade Pages and Number the apps store tells me I need to upgrade my system. Is this right ?

The newest iWork applications have got a different iWork format that isn't compatible with older iWork versions. If you want to use her documents, you will have to upgrade to OS X Mavericks. As your Mac mini has got OS X 10.8.5, you can upgrade to OS X Mavericks, so open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks free of charge.
Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
After upgrading, open the Mac App Store, go to Updates and install the most recent iWork version

No sounds on Mac Mini after Mavericks Installation

I recently installed Mavericks on our Mac mini and there is no sound. We have a set of speakers
hooked up and havent changed the settings. Please advise!

Using iMac6,1 Intel Core 2 Duo with Mac mini for Mavericks?

I am using iMac6,1 (white) Intel Core 2 Duo which works perfectlly fine and I hope to keep using this machine as long as I can.
I've learned, however, that OS Mavericks does not run on my iMac6,1 and Apple will no longer support it.
I am very attached to this machine and am not ready to face a new iMac display with a bold black frame...I just don't find it very attractive.
So I came up with an idea to buy a Mac mini and use my white iMac as a display.
Does this idea work?
I know nothing about computer so please laugh if I am being silly.

Mac Mini and DVI to ADC adapter

I have an old Apple Cinema Display with an ADC port. I have the DVI to ADC adapter, which I have been using to connect to an old Power Mac which is on its last legs. I want to replace the Power Mac with a mac mini and connect it to the display from the HDMI-DVI cable (included) to the DVI-ADC adapter, and then connect on to the Display. The Apple sales representative (after laughing for a while, which I thought was fairly insensitive) said that I won't have audio with this setup, and I will have to get a whole new display. Is this true?

Mac Mini and thunderbolt/vga to LCD TV

Hi All,
Here is an interesting one......
I have just taken delivery of 5 new Mac Minis which have the thunderbolt port on them. The Mac Minis each connect using displayport tb/vga adapter to a switch then on to 5 LCD TVs.
The HDMI/DVI is not used.
In this config, if I start a Mac Mini the display will not route through the Thunderbolt/vga adapter to any of the TVs (even though I have selected them on the switch). The display seems to want to go through the default HDMI port.
If I connect a standard PC monitor to the tb/vga adapter and reboot, the screen shows correctly on the monitor. If I then change cables without a reboot, the LCD TVs show correctly!
I can add the PC monitor as a second monitor using HDMI/DVI and ensure that the outputs are mirrored AND that the VGA display is the primary. However, on reboot it's as if the details are all forgotten!
Searching around it seems that there are issues with Mac Minis and VGA connections to LCD TVs. That said, I wanted to put my environment out there and see if anyone had an ideas.
Interestingly enough, with older Mac Minis (without the tb/vga) it works perfectly well, indicating a problem with the new Mac Minis.

You have explained exactly what happened to me last night. I was afraid it was part of the 10.8.3 update or the latest ATV software update that hit this week. I tried from my macbook pro and the airplay from 10.8.3 and the atv software worked fine.
Previously my mac mini was connected to a monitor in my basement but last night i made it "headless" and moved it to my "server closet" airplaying prior to the move worked great ... then last night 4:3 Green Screen.
My guess is the computer needs to be connected to a external display in order for airplay resolution to figure itself out. Via Logmein i could see that the Mirror mode wanted to use the resolution that fit the mac and not what was best for the Apple TV ... Even forcing the change made the setting go right back to this mac.
Looks to be a bug in a plist file that apple would need to fix as many people run headless mac mini's and now wish to AirPlay to their Apple TV's without the need for a external cable run.

The latest Apple driver support begins with the MP 171.
Here is Ricoh's official driver download page specifically for the Afico MP 161. Note that new drivers for this device were released on Aug 2, and include Lion and Mountain Lion.
