MAC mini and Photoshop CS6

Dear all,
I want to swich to MAC from my current Windows PC.
I'm thinking about to use a MAC mini because I have a good external display, so the iMAC is not necessary.
But I would like to know if the MAC mini is powerful for using Photoshop CS6 (image editing, no 3D).
Does someone has experience with a MAC mini and using Photoshop??
Thanks a lot in advance for your support!
Alecs

The mini uses Intel's integrated graphics rather than a discrete GPU which puts it at a small disadvantage compared to the iMacs.  I'm not a graphics professional but I use Photoshop extensively in my work and use it on my MBA (which is a bit slower than today's minis and also uses Intel's integrated graphics)  as much as my much faster iMac. Since loading and saving large PS files can be time consuming you might want to consider the Fusion model to get the benefit of SSD speeds.

  • Using Mac Mini with Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom

    Hi
I use Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4 mainly as I am a photographer. It involves both programmes live and some huge PSD files kicking around. I would be interested in hearing from any one who does similar on a high end mac mini. I am thinking of getting the high end new i7 with 16g and an SSD.
    Any good ?

While it will not deliver 'blazing fast' performance, it has tested OK with Photoshop CS6 MGE recently and it has faired decently well in some benchmark reports. Since the OP insisted Mac Mini, I think he can go for it. Also, since his work demands more 'Photo-specific' editing, I guess he should be good. Not much 3D I assume!
    Here are some references:

And I haven't heard of a 'reported failure' per se yet.

  • New Mac Mini and Photoshop CS3

I'm thinking of getting a new 2.0 GHz Mac Mini but am wondering if the built-in Intel GMA 950 graphics processor has enough horsepower for moderate-duty Photoshop CS3 work (all photo editing) using a Dell 24" Ultasharp widescreen LCD monitor? All the specs I read seem to suggest that the 950 can handle what I'm asking, but I'd like to hear from somebody who is doing CS3 work on a Mini with a 24" LCD monitor before taking the plunge.
    Thanks.

It does indeed mean that if you put 4Gb RAM in a Core 2 Duo mini it will only be able to see 3Gb of it. There is, however, no real downside or risk in fitting 3Gb RAM into the system even though Apple only specs it up to 2Gb. The only 'issue' is that to fit 3Gb, you would need unmatched RAM modules (1 1Gb and 1 2Gb stick) which means you loose the optimum performance of matches pairs of RAM. However, the loss of performance from that would generally be exceeded by the gain in performance from the additional 1Gb RAM available to MacOS.
Upgrading RAM yourself is not easy, but it is certainly not hard for someone with a little experience of working inside computers and who can do such work with care. You need a couple of thin putty knives (or pastry knives if you are more at home in the kitchen than garden) to get the case open, and some disassembly is required, but it isn't a difficult task. If you look down the page at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/mac_mini/intel you'll see links for a video of what's entailed.

  • Mac mini and photoshop elements 4

hello, i'm using a mac mini intel solo with photoshop elements 4 and it is unbearable!!!
has anybody else here experienced extremely slow reactions with this set up?
i think it may just be a memory issue, i have the standard 512mb and the page outs go through the roof in no time at all!
    any help would be appreciated

    roon

Keep in mind, that PhotoShop Elements has not been re-written by Adobe to run natively on an Intel-base Mac. Because PSE is running in emulation with Apple's "Rosetta" technology, you can expect slow performance no matter how much RAM you have. Of course, you can never have too much RAM! But you can't expect more RAM to solve all the issues.

  • Intel Mac Mini and Photoshop / Illustrator CS2

What is the performance of CS2 PS & Ill like on the Dual Mini like.
I currently have a PB 1.33GHZ / 768 MB RAM and thinking about getting DC Mac Mini with 2GB RAM.
    Any reports?

If you go to the Adobe site, you can read one of their white papers on their plans for universal versions. In short, there will NOT be a release of Photoshop CS2 as a universal binary; they're waiting for the next release (CS3?) which they hinted at 12-18 months. They also said that you will get performance degradation of Photoshop on the Intel boxes.
so, if a software vendor tells you that in writing, you can bet it will be worse than you expected, not better.
As for me, I'll keep my dual G5 PowerPC and CS2 until Adobe sees the urgency to release a universal product.

  • Mac mini and Photoshop

I recently bought an Intel Core Solo mini (used, but only two months old) as a way to switch from PC to Mac. I'm an illustrator and regularly work on midsize Photoshop projects (20-40 MB). I had done some research and thought that a mini would be sufficient, and in general it is. If most people buy too much computing power, I think I got just enough. So far I love the machine.
Anyway, Photoshop is a little chuggy when I run it, especially when I use my Wacom tablet. I have 512MB of RAM - would I see much of a boost in speed if I upgraded to 1GB of RAM, or would I need more? Or is it even possible on a mini?

The benefit of additional memory is somewhat dependant on what you run. To see if you can use additional memory, check the activity monitor.
On your hard drive, in applications/utilities, bring up your activity monitor and look at the system memory tab. Now look at page ins/outs, which will tell you if you'll benefit from adding more memory, based on the applications you currently run. If page outs are 10% or greater of page ins, you can use more memory. So, for example, if page ins are 8000 and page outs are 1500, you would benefit from additional memory. Page outs are when the system has to move some contents of memory to the hard drive to make room for something else. The relative size of the numbers doesn't matter, as they reset when you reboot, just the relationship between the two.
Adobe Photoshop isn't available as a universal application yet, so when you run it on the Intel mini, it runs under Rosetta, which will slow down it's performance. Adobe said that CS3 would be available in a universal version in Spring 2007.
Your system can support up to 2gb of memory.

I deactivated Photoshop CC on my Mac Mini and downloaded PS CC on my MacBook 1.1. I didn't realize the program will not run on MB 1.1. I uninstalled the app on the MacBook. I tried to reactivate on my Mac Mini and it tells me I already have the program loaded on two computers. How do I solve the problem?

The activation server shows that it is now activated on two computer, it has been deactivated once .
When you install it on the third computer or for the third time & when you to activate it, if it installed & activated already twice, there will be an option of deactivating it from the previous computers, please click on that.(To deactivate from preinstalled machine, Open any Adobe CC application > Help Menu > Signout.)
Next it will allow you to activate on your new machine,
Now you can go back to your first computer, log out & log back in of Desktopp CC App, launch any product, if there is any product to buy, in that prompt there will be an option to " license the software", please click on that & sign in.
It will reactivate the CC on the first machine.
You have already deactivated it from one machine, hence you can activate it on third computer.

I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements on an older Mac...just bought Mac Mini and migrated all my files...but 4.0 Does not work....can I upgrade PSE 4.0 to PSE 13?

Yes, any version of PSE qualifies for upgrade pricing, but if you're in the US you might want to consider running the trial  for now and waiting for the black friday specials, when the full version will be a lot less than the adobe upgrade price.

  • Where can I download Illustrator CS6 and Photoshop CS6

I am a Creative Cloud member and I can't find an online link to get Illustrator and Photoshop CS6.
I am on a Mac OSX 10.6.8, unfortunately I can't run CC programs all the time.
My illustrator crashed and I need to reinstall both CS6 programs.
    Thank you,
    Cindy

    John,
Thanks, but I found those directions but the link on that page doesn't take you to a application listing like shown. If you are able to link to the page that is shown under the header "Download previous versions" please post that link.
I actually went to a Adobe Chat representative, did not help.
Okay, after another hour of trying to resolve issues I have found some links that could help someone locate older versions. Not sure if it will resolve my problem but links may help someone that couldn't seem to locate them online.

  • Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 both will not allow me to print from them

Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 both will not allow me to print from them. InDesign will, but illustrator keeps popping up with "can't print the illustration." i have read other forums and i understand outlining typefaces, and spot colors but, it still will not allow me to print. Even if i open a completely new file and just try to print a black square it will not allow it. the problem might have started with an emailed EPS file? but im not 100 percent sure. i have disconnected and re connected the printer but the problem just seems as if all Illustrator, and Photoshop files will not print from the program and the connection with the printer is non existent (even though it says it is). please help!

  • How to download a font onto Mac version of photoshop CS6?

How do I download a font that I had on my older pc version of photoshop onto my new mac and mac version of photoshop CS6?

    Hi there,
If you still have access to your older PC, you can take the fonts from that computer by following these directions. You should be able to put them onto a flash drive or external hard drive, then install them on your Mac from there. Depending on how you got the fonts in the first place, you may be able to download them online (be wary of font licenses, however—make sure it is legal to be using them). To install a font onto your Mac:
    1) Locate the font file on your flash drive/external/CD/downloads folder (I'm installing a downloaded font in this example). Double click to open the folder.
    2) Double click on the font file (typically a .ttf or .otf file) and the following window will pop up. Click "Install Font."
    3) This automatically opens FontBook, which is the basic font management software that comes with your Mac. You will then be able to see the font in your installed fonts list, which will make it available for use within Photoshop.
I hope this helps. Let us know if you need more assistance!

  • I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • My Indesign and Photoshop CS6 are telling me not enough memory

I have the new iMac with a 3.11 TB fusion hard-drive and 16 G of memory. My Indesign and Photoshop CS6 are giving me low memory warnings and are very sluggish. According to everything I have found there should be no reason for this. So far it is slower then my old mac pro which I used CS3 on.  I realize that the new CS is a RAM hog but what I have should be more then enough to build a half page ad with 22 placed photos or a game-board which is mostly vector art without it acting up. Has anyone else had this issue. Is there a way to allocate more memory to these programs?

You know Mr. Mylenium, the more I think about the more I don't want you to explain yourself unless you can be helpful. The reason I try to avoid using these forums is precisely because of answers like yours. Completely snide and unhelpful. I have been doing graphic design for 14 years now and have always used macs. One of my frustrations is that they are not as easy to get into as they used to be. That being said, I am a designer. I think with the creative side of my brain not the technical. If you cannot be helpful then please don't answer. I have no time for that kind of stuff.
One more thing... just in case it helps you give an actual answer (yes my snidish frustrated side is definitely coming out right now)... the programs did not start out slow. I've had this since January and last month is when it started. Because of my many years of experience I am thinking that it probably has to do with some incompatible upgrade.
