Mac mini + ASUS VW192s - not detect !

Hi.
ASUS VW192s detect on Mac mini as Standart VGA monitor without wide resolution 1440x900 !. How fix it ?

It might also be that the preferences file for displays has become corrupt. Try the following; in /Library/Preferences find the file com.apple.windowserver.plist and throw it in the trash. Find also in /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost the file com.apple.windowserver.xxxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxxx is a string of letters and numbers and yourusername is the name on the main user account and throw that in the trash, too. Then restart and see if the wide screen function returns.

Try SwitchRes X to build the missing resolution as a custom resolution.

I recommend the SwitchRes X Control Panel version over the full version for your application.

  • Mac mini server - will not take 4GB so-dimm in bank 0

Mac mini server - will not take 4GB so-dimm in bank 0
    Hello,
Memory works ok as long as the old 2gb 1066 so-dimm is in bank 0.
Switching the dimms around is no go. It seems to need that bank 0 populated with an old 2gb.
I can use only one 2gb and one 4gb for the mini server to boot.
It seems to have a hard time figuring out the 2x4gb configuration.
Tried PRAM and NVRAM reset. Always getting 3 beeps.
Any chance of getting the full 8gb detected?

    Hi All,
I had the same problem that you, I had a mac mini server late 2009 with 10.7.3 OS X, with 4 GB of memory.
I have got these two memories on amazon:
    "8Go mémoire - Kit double canal SAMSUNG original 2 x 4 Go 204 broches DDR3-1066 PC3-8500 SO-DIMM (2x M471B5273BH1-CF8) mémoire portable ordinateur DD"
First test to install in the mac mini:
    Slot 0 - 4 GB
    Slot 1 - 4 GB
    3 beeps
    2nd test
    Slot 0 -
    Slot 1 - 4 GB
    OK
    3rd Test:
    Slot 0 - 4 GB
    Slot 1 - 1 GB
    3 beeps
    4th Test:
    1 - 1 GB
    2 - 4 GB
    OK
    5th test:
    reset PMU
    Slot 0 - 4 GB
    Slot 1 - 4 GB
    3 bips
    6th Test:
I did a test of the 2x4 GB in a mac mini 2010
    OK
    7th test:
    Slot 0 - 2 GB
    Slot 1 - 4 GB
    OK
After to read this forum I gave up and I decided to let the mac mini with 6 GB. Well, as I wanted to try it again one last time, I tried to put the slot 0 memory forcing a bit. But I did not noticed nothing special.
Well, at this last time, it works. 8 GB in the mac mini server

I hope this info will help you to resolve this problem. But seriously, I am not giving you nothing else than hope

  • Dual Monitors on Mac Mini Late 2014 not working on Dell S2340Lc

    Hey guys,
Got a mac mini and using it mainly for work. Working for an ISP and no one has used macs and I've opted to be the poor sucker that gets to deal with old people that don't know how to mac very goodly.
I have two Dell S2340Lc monitors. I have one connected up via HDMI and that works perfectly fine. I turned off the mac, I plugged in Monitor 2 with a MiniDP/Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, powered on the mac and whilst it was booting, it had the Apple logo and the loading bar on the Dell display plugged in to the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and then once it loaded up the log in screen, it went to the HDMI display. I logged in and in the displays section, the monitor plugged in to the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter isn't being detected, however I can plug it in to a Samsung 55 Inch Smart TV and it works just fine. I can set up dual monitors between the TV and the monitor in HDMI, but the Dell S2340Lc will only work with a HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the mac mini and will not work through the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter. On the display it just says that there is no signal coming from the computer.
Just wondering if any of you apple gurus had any ideas as to why this isn't working?
    Thanks!

    What if you switch monitors?
What happens if yo only have the Thunderbolt>HDMI>Dell monitor connected?

  • Mac mini late 2012 not working with small VGA monitor

I got a mac mini (late 2012 10.8.4 all updates installed) and it is working fine with samsung b2230 via VGA adapter. There is a small VGA monitor (PL8006 max at 1024*768) which works fine when connected  to a PC.
When I connect the small VGA monitor to mac mini it is not displaying anything (monitor shows blue screen with letters VGA so I assue it is not getting any signal). Mac's resolution is set to 1024*768 with 60Hz (even tried with 800*600 without any success). Monitor is also not working with win 7 installed in mac mini using bootcamp.
    Any thoughts?

i just found that when the VGA cable of the small monitor is slightly inserted into the VGA adaptor it works fine (this is not usable because there is no way to keep the pins at that level) and when the pins inserted fully / moved little it is not working. Since this happens only between these two devices can't find which one is faulty.

  • New mac mini system will not recognize wireless keyboard and trackpad.

My brand new mac mini system will not initialize properly.  The return on the track pad are not being recognized, although scrolling is. Any others find this?  Support could not figure this out on the phone.  They sent me out to get new batteries and now they are closed.  Batteries have been changed and still nothing.

My Mac MINI gave me one heck of a time trying to get it  to recognize my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. both Apple brand.
I finally had to connect an old USB mouse and keyboard to get the silly thing to connect.
    Don't forget to repair permissions.
I also had to shut the computer down and start it back up a couple of times before it would connect.  I think it has to do with the new Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology.
I also turned off my Bluetooth devices and turned them on again, then I pulled the batteries out a couple of times and tried again and again.
I also put in new battries even thiough the ones I replaced were about a week old.
Finally, the MINI recognised the mouse and keyboard.
I wish I could tell you which thing did the trick.

    Hello Partii,
It sounds like you may use a POP account for your email.  With a POP account, email applications like Mail and Outlook can remove emails from the server, so when another device tries to check the server for new emails, it doesn't see any.
You may need to adjust settings in Outlook so that the emails are not removed from the server when downloaded.  I found an article with more information:
When using a POP email account with multiple devices, email messages may only appear on the first device that receives them. This occurs when an email client is configured to automatically remove email from the server once an email client has received it. You can configure your email client (or clients) either to keep a copy of the email on the server, remove it after a certain number of days have passed, or keep it until you move it from your Inbox.
I recommend reviewing the full article for steps on adjusting these settings; you can find the full article here:

after installing osx 10.8.2 to my mac mini it will not recognize my admin account. how do i uninstall

    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • How to solve: The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/IP's Mac mini.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error -1).

    Hi,
    Please help!
I set up my time capsule yesterday, and it worked perfectly initially.  However, after I used the same time capsule HDD as network file sharing with my MacBook Pro and two other PCs, than the hourly backup failed and gave the following error message.
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/IP’s Mac mini.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1).
Please help telling me what to do to restore the backup function.
    ipmt

First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
    Try again to back up.
If you still can't, open the Time Machine preference pane and delete the TC from the list of backup destinations. You may have to unlock the settings by clicking the lock icon in order to do this. Then add it back.

  • Mac Mini Airport Extreme - Cannot detect any wireless networks

    Hello,
Last week my Mac Mini (Power PC)'s hard disk crashed. So I did a DIY replacement. I managed to re-install all the software, and installed all the latest updates.
However, for some reason, the Airport Extreme is not detecting any wireless network after the re-install.
My own wireless network router is a third-party, which has been working well for the last 2 years. My Window PC and laptop still connects to it fine.
I can see the Airport icon but it doesn't how any detected networks (and there are quite a few in my neighbourhood). I did Apple Hardware Test and it shows the Airport card to be working ok.
    Any help would be wonderful!

It still may be possible that the antenna wire is not placed properly within the Mini. Here are an excerpt of the DIY instructions for installing the wireless antenna. Hope it helps...
    - Make sure that the antenna cables are firmly seated in the mezzanine board.
    - Pass the antenna cables through the gap at the rear of the internal frame.
    - Carefully lower the internal frame down onto the motherboard. Make sure that the wires are routed to the right of the interconnect board.
    - Snap the AirPort antenna onto the black plastic column next to the rear port panel.
    - Tape the AirPort antenna wire to the edge of the DVD drive.

Mac Mini G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Sorry for the cross-post. I posted wrongly in Airport Express previously.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I saw the thread before I posted and I'm hoping this will be solved soon.
The main thing that worries me is that in my case, the Mac Mini is not even seeing any networks - zero in an apartment block where there is at least 5 network on the air at any time

  • Mac Mini (server) 2011 not accepting 4 GB

My Mac Mini Server (mid 2011) does not accept 4 GB of memory. It does boot succesfully with a 2 GB SODIMM in slot 0 or in slot 1, but when I insert 2 2GB SODIMMs in both slots, it does not boot. It does give the start up beep and then after a few secs it 'restarts' or so and beeps again. It repeats so continuously.
When I insert a 4 GB SODIMM in either of the slots, the issue is exactly the same.
I've been trying several things regarding memory placement. 2 GB in slot 0 and 4 GB in slot 1. 4 GB in slot 0 and 2 GB slot 1, 2x 2 GB in slot 0 and 1. All the same result.
Only once, it somehow did start with a 2 GB and a 4 GB SODIMM installed and then OS X did report 6 GB in total, so somewhere both slots do work. However, on next day (after power down) the same issue of continuous beeps reoccured.
I inspected both memory slots but could not see any dirt or mishap. I cleaned both slots with cleaning alchohol. I even "sanded" the contacts with a narrow piece of paper, folded to proper thickness. I've given the Mac a PRAM reset, an SMC reset. All to no avail.
Any idea what this can be caused by?
BTW, I do not know whether it is related: I also noticed that the 2 leftmost USB ports (seen from front) do not detect a keyboard when inserted in those. When the keyboard is inserted in one of the 2 rightmost ports, the kb is detected without problems.

    Kingston says it should work

I can't find where ICIDU says anything about supported computers
    http://www.icidu.com/en/memory/notebook-memory/sodimm-ddr3-1333-8gb-kit.html
Based on what you did and problem with UBS ports I suspect either a slot problem or a problem on the logic board.

  • Mac Mini (Late 2014) not recognizing SSD OCZ Vertex 2

    Hello community,
After days of tests and readings, I turn to you to seek for advice.
    Here is my problem:
I am trying to upgrade a new Mac Mini (Late 2014 model) from it's original mechanical HDD to a Vertex 2 SSD I have been using for a few years with no problems to report, great product.
First 1 cloned my HDD onto the Vertex 2 SSD using SuperDuper, all went well.
I then switched disks and set the SSD in the SATA III slot inside the Mac Mini and reboot... the disk would boot, the recovery system and the disk utility would not see the disk (or it would see it just long enough to try to make a disk verification and then would disappear).
Here is what I have already tried:
    - Boot from Linux LiveCD, I can see the Vertex SSD, I can see all it's file and browse them
    - Reformat the disk, in HFS+ with GUID partition table
    - Clean PRAM
    - Perform a Hardware Check - all good
    - Boot from the original HDD connected through a SATA-to-USB adapter - all good, i can boot the system, but i don't see the SSD drive (or only for a moment then as soon as i try some action on it (like a disk verification) it stalls and then disappears)
    - Try to OCZ toolbox to make a security erase and start fresh. I had here a major issue, the OCZ toolbox would not start, it froze after a lot of complaints a "Scanning for hard disk partitions and creating /etc/fstab" and wouldn't move.
    - Dissassembled the Mac Mini, removed the SSD, put it in a Macbook Pro, use OCZ Toolbox on it, this time, it loaded perfectly, identified the disk, i did a firmware update to the latest (1.37) and performed a security erase. All went perfectly. For verificiation I rebooted in recovery mode from the Macbook with the SSD and formatted properly the disk using the Apple Disk Utility (GUIP partition table+ HFS+ partition) and the system neatly identified it as a good host for system install. Then i removed the Vertex 2 SSD from the Macbook pro, put it back in the Mac Mini (reassembled it - god, that's a big pain !) and boot it again in recovery, only to see... nothing, the disk is still not recognized by the system.
Voilà... now I'm out of idea, It could be some low level hardware incompatibility, or anything else, i read about TRIM and Yosemite sometime not behaving well, about SATA II and SATA III compatibility problems, but so far, nothing clear.
I therefore welcome in anticipation your knowledge and hope we can figure this out. For the sake of extending the reach, I will also post this on Anandtech and Apple support forums.

Well, thank you tbirdvet, but the problem was actually an incompatibility at the controller level.
To quote the OCZ support :
The issue is incompatibility between the older SandForce 1222 controller used in the Vertex 2 and the newer Intel Haswell platform used in the Late 2014 Mac Mini.  The incompatibility started with the Intel 8 and now 9 series chipsets and spans across all products that used the controller regardless of manufacturer.  It is expected behavior to be able to connect the Vertex 2 then clone to it, but if you try and cold boot to it the detection will fail.  Unfortunately, the Vertex 2 and the controller it utilized are long EOL and never received a firmware update (if that was even possible) to adjust for the release of these new chipsets.
So I can stop looking around it simply wont boot, ever. Product being End Of Support, no new firmware will ever fix this.
So I guess, i'll have to look another SSD.

  • Mac mini (2009) does not work for s-video input on my  tv

    Hi,
I have a new mac mini (2009) and I want to use like a media center. I have an adapter at MiniDisplay port to s-video to connect to my tv. I do not have digital inputs on the tv, I only have s-video, rca and scart. When I plug in s-video or RCA I have no image on TV. The adapter I have is the original apple store. Can you help solve the problem? I do not like having to change the tv.

  • Mac Mini login GUI not responding (but SSH access OK)

I have an ongoing intermittant issue with my Mac Mini (running Lion).
I can see the login GUI but can't login!  Sometimes the mouse pointer moves in response to my trackpad motions but the "click" doesn't respond when I try it. Generally the keyboard doesn't seem to respond (but pressing "enter" does wake-up the screen).
I have the problem at the moment and have managed to actually enter 3 characters of my password, but now it's not responding.
VNC access is enabled and if I connect via that method the results are exactly the same (so it's not an issue with my actual/physical keyboard or mouse).
I have enabled SSH access and I can login via this method so the system is still responding.  I have run "top" from the SSH session and no particular process seems to be "hogging" the system.
So I am at a loss as what to do.
I would appreciate any advice on how to fault-find this via the SSH session.

In System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click the little + icon & add a new Admin user, log into that account & see if it works.
While in Safe mode/boot, in System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click the little + icon & add a new Admin user, log into that account & see if it works if you set the new user to Automatically login.
