Mac mini, bluetooth keyboard and mouse problems

My elderly father is trying to use bluetooth (USB adaptor) with his mini, and Apple bluetooth keyboard and bluetooth mouse. He has the mini about 6 feet away in the entertainment center partly behind the cabinet door. He keeps getting a message that his keyboard can't be found. I've had him wiggle the key board, check the batteries etc. to no avail. He bought this Mini 5 months ago to be able to get DSL, and so far he hasn't been able to get hooked up because his keyboard never works enough.
I live 400 miles away, so can't go over easily to help out. He doesn't want a keyboard with a cable, because he wants to sit in front of the TV, which he is using as a monitor.
Any suggestions? The mouse works more reliably, by the way.
I don't know what brand USB adaptor he is using, he got it from Fry's, but the Apple store says they recommend only certain brands.
thanks,
Lory

problem solved. Replaced key board, mousse and changed brands of USB bluetooth adaptor, which is now a D-Link brand I bought from an Apple store. Works like a champ.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and mouse problems

    Dear friends,
I think something is wrong with my bluetooth devices... They work perfecly well for a period of time (maybe 1 hour, maybe 2 minutes) and after this period they stop working well. They are not disconnected, they keep working, but they are super lagish, e.g. the mouse cannot be controlled, the keyboard have super latency or it keeps repeating a button i selected.
When this occurs I turn off bluetooth from my status bar, and turn it again on right away. That solves the problem for again a period of time. This issue was first introduced to me after I installed Lion on my mac. After this and some other problems I experienced in Lion, I decided to switch back to snow leopard again. The thing is that the problem persisted...
    Any suggestions ???
    Thanks

    OK. New input...
Updated again to Lion. As soon as I updated the problem began again. Once again I deleted the com.apple.bluetooth file and reset both pram and smc.
For two days my bluetooth devices were working perfectly fine. None issues.
Today, I was in a hurry and put my mac on sleep by closing the lid. As soon as I opened the lid again
    the problem unveiled again.
What on earth is happening ?? It cannot be a keyboard or mouse problem, can it ??
Little help, please... It seems managable, but performing a smc and pram reset every couple days doen't
    seem right...
    Regards

  • I am having trouble getting my My Mac Book Pro 15" Retina to wake up with an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse while Docked in a Hengedock vertical docking station.

I am having trouble getting my My Mac Book Pro 15" Retina to wake up with an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse while Docked in a Hengedock vertical docking station. The Keyboard and mouse work great with the laptop lid open but when closed in the docking station the bluetooth signal does not seem to transmit.  Is there a setting that can be changed to allow an Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to wake the computer while docked?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Just bought a new mac mini, wireless keyboard, and track pad. My track pad will not synch. All advise I have been given is to change items in the setting menu, but I cant because I still have to get through the setup!!

Just bought a new mac mini, wireless keyboard, and track pad. My track pad will not synch. All advise I have been given is to change items in the setting menu, but I cant because I still have to get through the setup!!

The power button for the Trackpad is on the right hand end of the battery case. Press that button to initiate the pairing process. On the top of the Trackpad just above the power button is a tiny green light (you probably cannot see it unless it is lighted). That light will indicate ehther or not the Trackpad is discoverable. If the Trackpad has discoverable the green light will blink on and off. If it does not pair within 3 minutes you will have to press the power button again to re-initiate the pairing process. Once your Trackpad has paired, you can just leave it on and it will pair automatically when you reboot your Mac.
If you are having problems pairing, try turning off any other Bluetooth devices within 30 or so feet of your Mac mini. That includes other Computers, iPhones, iPads, etc. that may be in the area. Once your Trackpad has pairedwith your mini, you don't have to be concerned about other Bluetooth devices.
One other hint, I find that although the Wireless Trackpad does not eat batteries as fast as the Magic Mouse it still uses more than the Wireless Keyboard. It is a good idea to keep a supply of AA batteries around. I have used Apple's Rechargable batteries, but found they did not last that long before needing to be recharged. I have had the best battery life from Duracell Quantum batteries.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and mouse disconnect issue

I have a 20" Aluminium iMac with the bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Recently i've started to have some issues where the keyboard keeps disconnecting & reconnecting, also the mouse going slow and jerky. They have been working perfectly fine for the past year but only recently started to play up. I have gone into bluetooth prefs and deleted them and re-connected, this seemed to be a temporary fix but after a while it started again, although not as bad as before. I usually leave my Mac on all the time and just put it in sleep mode, the issue now seems to be waking it from sleep as well. I have tried restarts and re pairing as i said before but nothing seems to be solving the issue. Any ideas or fixes would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I have an MacBook with the bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I've had them for about a year and they've worked perfectly; this problem has only showed up in the last couple of weeks. I didn't know whether it was a hardware problem or software (perhaps a recent software update), but considering the exact same thing is happening to someone else I'm inclined to think software rather than hardware.
The keyboard disconnects and reconnects (immediately) a couple of times an hour. It's not such a problem with the keyboard, but whenever that happens, the mouse goes very slow for several minutes, until it finally works out. The mouse doesn't disconnect (I have hardware growl on and am notified of disconnections/connections); it just goes very slow.

  • Buzz / Hiss sound when using apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse w/heaphones

When I use the apple wireless (bluetooth) keyboard and mouse with my 1.42Ghz G4 Mac mini, there is a constant buzzing or hissing noise. When I turn the keyboard and mouse off, it stops. I've updated the firmware on my mac mini, but I couldn't update the firmware on my keyboard and mouse:

    (thanks, apple)
Is there a way to fix this noise? Would updating the firmware solve this? Has anyone else experienced it? It's driving me crazy!
    Thanks!

would you have another computer available that has 10.3 on it? it would probably help. pmu reset may also help http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300574. good luck. [ : ) ]

  • Multiple bluetooth keyboard and mouse

I will be using 4 Mac mini's with bluetooth keyboard and mouse at a trade show in a convention center. Will the bluetooth devices have any issues being placed next to each other, if not what is the setup procedure?

    Hello Billy:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I have never done anything like the process you describe. However, I think the BT devices will only pair with one system at a time.
Frankly, I think I would test everything before I set it up at the show. I would also have a wired KB and mouse available - just in case (voice of someone who has had live presentations go poorly!).

  • Mac Mini + Bluetooth Keyboard initial setup

    On this page :-
    http://www.apple.com/uk/keyboard/
It states that an "Existing keyboard and mouse for initial setup" are required.
If I buy a new Mac Mini with apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse, will it all just work or do I need usb devices to set things up?

You just need a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. First it will ask you to pair the mouse with the mac mini if it doesn't automatically pair it. Just turn off the mouse by sliding the cover down and back up...then you'll finish the install of OS X, and then it will ask you to turn on your BT keyboard, and you'll just need to press the power button on the right hand side and push until it blinks and then type in a code that will appear on the screen. It's all quite simple as soon as you try to do it. The directions on-screen are quite self-explanatory.

  • Macbook pro does not respond to bluetooth keyboard and mouse at login screen

i've seen this question floating around and i don't think i've found one that has been resolved. i'm hoping someone may have an answer by now.
i do not have this issue when i boot into windows 7 (bootcamp) the macbook pro responds to keyboard input and mouse input immediately on the windows 7 login screen. when i boot into mac, there is no response from either. i've seen suggestions of waiting for 30 secods. i still get nothing after waiting for over a minute.
what i do right now is use the built-in touch pad and keyboard of the macbook pro to get past the login screen. once i'm logged in, i can see that the bluetooth devices are not yet connected (the three dots that go across the bluetooth symbol at the top right of the screen are not yet there). then after a while, maybe about half a minute, the bluetooth keyboard and mouse are connected and i can use them normally.
it is not a big deal but it is very annoying.
i am using a logitech bluetooth mouse (v740) and an adesso bluetooth keyboard (wkb-4000bm). i also tried an azio bluetooth keyboard and had the same issue. all these keyboards are made for mac.
    thannks in advance.

just a correction, the keyboard and mouse don't always automatically reconnect once i'm logged in. most of the time i have to go click the bluetooth icon at the top right of my screen, select the mouse and then select "connect". i have to do the same to the keyboard.

  • Installing Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse in Windows XP Bootcamp

I just installed windows XP in bootcamp. Problem is that my bluetooth keyboard and mouse aren't connected. Short of getting a USB mouse to connect them, is there any work arounds?

Yeah. You will need a USB connected Keyboard and USB Mouse too!.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and mouse not function on BootCamp3.0 + Windows 7

    Hi,
    I am 24'' iMac user.
I have installed boot Camp 3.0 on Windows 7, all devices functions well except bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Both of them cannot be found and paired.
Any one know how to slove this problem?
    Thanks.

Have you tried reading the many other posts on this forum that talk about this issue? It seems that by default the services are not enabled for some peripheral devices. Try right-clicking the bluetooth icon, selecting "show my bluetooth devices" (or similar i dont ahve it in front of me), then right click the keyboard/mouse, go to the Services tab and make sure the services are enabled.

  • Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse

I jursted bougth a HP Envy 23-o014 All-In-One.  It came with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse now they are not working?  How can I get this fixed?

I have the same computer - less than 6 months old -  and the same problem (which started after an update on 3/12 - ?).  The diagnostics I ran told me the keyboard and mouse were no longer compatible with 3.0.   I was able to regain function by restarting with f2 to try to correct.  Worked fine for a while then the mouse eventually became more and more erratic. On the next restart the keyboard was unresponsive again.   The tech guys removed the dongle (from the back panel behind your screen) and plugged into the external port - after that, everything worked fine again ..... until the next restart.  Since the system is under warranty, they just replaced the keyboard and mouse.  Again everything appeared to work fine so I brought it back home and guess what - same problem!  I remove the dongle from one drive to another - then it worked fine again.  I restarted to test it, when it came up the screen went immediately to something that said "keyboard error" but went immediately to the hp start screen before I could catch it.  When I began to log in after that, the cursor would jump to the left side of the letter I just typed - it would only go back and forth.  I removed the dongle and reinserted - problem fixed.  This is not how it should work - someone has to know the root cause for this - ?

  • Bluetooth keyboard and mouse compatability

    Hi,
Does anyone know if the older bluetooth keyboard and mouse will work with a 20" imac duo core? The numbers are as follows: Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard (A1016) & Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse (A1197). The imac number I believe is: MA200LL.
I haven't received it yet though ebay but would like to do the bluetooth thing to keep my desk as clutter free as possible.
    Thanks!

Taking this a step further; I bought the aluminum wireless KB with my 20" 2 GHz Core 2 Duo. I don't like the layout, so I bought the older style wireless KB (A1016). However, I can't get the Mac to recognize the new KB. I've even gone through the Bluetooth setup assistant to no avail: it just can't find it. I tried having the BT Setup Assistant look for ANY BT device and it sees the KB that way. I can get through to the point of entering the passkey on the computer but I seem to get hung up when trying to enter the same corresponding code on the new KB.
Any ideas? Do I need to disable the wireless aluminum KB?
