I have a similar problem!  The mini and iPhone 4 will not discover one another at all unless they are hot spotted!  I just want them paired via Bluetooth not hotspot!

  • My mac Mini has problem rendering images and video

    THE PROBLEM:
My mac mini has problem rendering JPEG image. There are strips on the images. Other images such as GIF, PNG, TIFF, and BMP are displayed nicely.
The images shown in the links below illustrate the problem:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/terencewong/71481156/
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/terencewong/73360989/
(Please note that this image is grabbed from my faulty Mac Mini and saved into TIFF. For uploading purpose, I converted it into JPEG on ANOTHER computer.)
For movies, AVI can be playback without problem. But when it is converted to MPEG, it looks like an untunned TV channel.
    FIXES TRIED:
I did erase and install 3 to 4 times using both the install disc and my Tiger Family Pack. All ended up with strips on the JPEG images and the generated MPEG movies.
I've also tried to flash the firmware to 113-xxxxx-124 using ATI's october 2005 universal ROM update, however, the ROM Revision shown in System Profiler is still 113-xxxxx-116 no matter how many time I reboot the system.
    INVESTIGATION:
Yesterday, I did some research and got to know that JPEG and MPEG are using DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) for decompression. And the ATI Radeon 9200 chip provide such a transform on hardware basis, which free the CPU from doing something else. Feel free to point out my inaccuracy.
    HARDWARE SPECIFICATION:
I bought the Mac Mini in the last Februray.
The system Boot ROM version is: 4.8.9f1
Display card is ATI Radeon 9200
    Chipset Model: ATY,RV280
    Revision ID: 0x0001
    ROM Revision: 113-xxxxx-116
    A POSSIBLE CONCLUSION:
I suspect that it is this part of the chip (the DCT) that is faulty.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
    Many thanks!

Assuming that your display is tightly connected, thus the problem is not caused by something as simple as that, the fact that a full erase and install has not removed the problem would, I think, point to this being a hardware issue, and given that everyone's mini (with the possible exception of some of the latest ones) has the same video chipset as yours, and do not suffer the problem that you appear to, it seems very likely that your mini has a fault which is in need of repair.
If you have an Apple Store nearby, I would take it there to have it checked out - at the very least they should be able to replicate your problem using an in-store display, and if not, thusly suggest it's something external to the mini and concerning your display or something very unusual in the immediate environment of the mini. If you don't have an Apple Store in reach, I'd take the system to an Apple authorized service provider since at the present time it is under warranty.

  • Mini Bluetooth Problems - Dongle instead?

Given that the new Mini has old Mini Bluetooth problems (and no solution in sight from any Apple folks), anyone have luck or solutions for disabling the internal 'radio' and using an external BT Dongle (say, D-Link)? When I turn BT off, and plug the dongle in, nothing happens - even after a reboot.

Well, - I'm having the same problem as described in the first post. The N97 mini connects flawlessly with some PCs, headsets, and handsfree car systems.
I disagree with the purpose of remote SIM mode as before mentioned. Remote SIM access is to support the rSAP (remote SIM access profile) installed in some premium handsfree systems (like in my Skoda Superb) and basically lets the handsfree system 'steal' your SIM, including PIN etc. over BT for use with its own built in phone.
But in my new Mazda MX-5 I am having trouble to place calls with the handsfree car system. It is not a rSAP capable system and I have tried with and without rSAP in the N97 mini enabled, to no avail.
The N97 mini pairs fine and I can receive incoming calls. Also, I can place calls from the device itself, but when I try to place a call over the car's handsfree system it basically freezes for a few minutes before the car system throws an error. During these minutes I can see on the car display that it looses connection to the phone, albeit the N97 mini still shows connected state. Once these 1 or 2 minutes have passed, the phone shows disconnected, and then reconnects immediately. By experimenting a bit, I found that when I change the BT visibility, from not visible to visible or vice versa, during those minutes, the phone catches up with the number and dials.
And yes, my N97 mini is on the latest FW (12.0.110).
It's a pity that this problem is obviously already so old, that I have little hope Nokia is going to fix it. My old 6600i slide, and my wifes 6131 are working like a charm, unfortunately I need the N97 mini to work for other reasons ...
Despite I don't know if the N8 would work, it's not an option since it's not supported by PC Suite anymore, thus doesn't synchronize with Lotus Notes, which is what I need at work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ... thanks

  • Mac Mini Bluetooth hardware problems ?

I own a Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo 1Gb bought last October, an Apple wireless keyboard and an Apple wireless mouse, both I formerly use without any problems with my old Powerbook G4. By now, I used them with my Mac Mini it worked perfectly fine. But since two or three weeks, I’ve got big Bluetooth connection problem. Randomly, after one or two hours of use, both keyboard and mouse loose connection and the Bluetooth symbol change itself into a strange one. I had a look on your site to learn the meaning of it and the symbol is see which is a Bluetooth symbol with a horizontal zebra means that no Bluetooth hardware can be found! Does my Mac Mini built-in Bluetooth card have problems?
Since I haven’t got any wired USB keyboard or mouse I have to reboot my Mac Mini quite roughly. Sometimes one reboot is enough to make the Bluetooth of Mac Mini to work again, sometimes not and I have to wait a little bit more (more than ten minutes). I can see it works again as the Bluetooth symbol is the right one again (the one with the dots).
It is very annoying. And I am a bit sad to have such problems with Apple stuff. Is there something I could do to avoid such a waste of time? Or shall I call Apple Care for fear it should be a hardware problem.
Of course, I use brand new batteries for both of them.

My mini is doing it as well. Just started doing 2-3 weeks ago. Logitech Denovo or Apple Bluetooth. Doesn't matter which. Loses it in about an hour or so. Al Keyboards and mice were purchased at about the same time as the core 2 duo mini, ~ last October.
Must power cycle the machine to get it back and it must be paired again. Very annoying. Can't remember if it coincides with an Apple update.
This mini has had the superdrive replaced twice, once within 6 weeks of purchase. Ever since Leopard, it's been close to the best media head. now this...
    Sigh.
(What makes it not the best? Frontrow doesn't sort titles correctly [1, 10, 2, 3 - wrong!], doesn't force mount aliases in the movies directory, doesn't put out 1080p without hacking. And I'd so love eyeTV integration with Frontrow. It'd be perfect then.)

  • Mac mini, bluetooth connection problems

Hi, My mac mini (latest model) has recently got problems with the bluetooth connections to the keyboard and the mouse.
It seems to be some kind of interference to the wireless signal that makes the KB/Mouse to lose connection, and then
    connect again.
I assume that it was one recent update that caused this as it worked without any problems for months before it
    started by itself.
    Any tips?

  • Mac mini bluetooth and safari problems

I have done research on the boards, and so far haven't found a solution so i decided to make my own discussion.
I have a 2009 mac mini that has run fine until this last month. When comeing out of sleep, the bluetooth magic mouse doesn't work. When i plug in a regular mouse to get me to my destop, everything in the top right toolbar is missing (adobe icon, time machine icon, bluetooth icon, wireless airport bars, and date and time) the search icon is still there, but if you scroll the mouse towards it, i get the not respinding beach ball.... if i go to system preferences, I get the not responding ball of doom as well... If i go to safari, it says i am not connected to the internet, even though when i do a network check, it says everything is up and running, If I go to restart, it just stays on the white screen with the loading circle unil i have to restart by holding in the button.....after the reset, everytihing works fine till i put the computer in sleep again (or logout of my name) .......
I read that there are bluetooth problems with the mac mini of 2009, but this kind of sounds like more than that.. this hasn't happened before until i updated to LION... but sometimes it sounds like the mini is making a faint "squeaking" sound when it is trying to process things.. this doesn't happen often though... the mini is only 2 years old, almost 3, i can't imigine it dying soo soon... any ideas??? any help would be appreciated... thanks-bruce

problem solved. Replaced key board, mousse and changed brands of USB bluetooth adaptor, which is now a D-Link brand I bought from an Apple store. Works like a champ.

  • Mac Mini Bluetooth Issues

Hi there, I've recently took purchase of a new Mac Mini (my first Mac) and am loving it, apart from the problems I'm having with the Bluetooth functionality.
I've been trying to pair my new Apple wifi keyboard and have not been succesful, I can't get the mini to recognise that there is a keyboard (I've also tried pairing 2 different mobile phones, and anther laptop with no success).
I've tried a what was suggested in another thread (powering mac and key off for a few minutes, with power cable/batteries removed) but this hasn't worked for me.
I'm not at a total loss, as you can see by my typing of this Topic , however it would be cool to get the BlueTooth working on this Mini.
Any help or suggestions would be greatfully received
    Dan

I am having similar issues. The bluetooth range with the apple wireless mouse and kbd is VERY short. If the mouse is more than a foot or so away, motion becomes clunky. I also tried this with another bluetooth mouse (different brand) and had the same problem. I've gone though making the mouse and kbd favorites, but about half of the reboots, the mouse isn't found (when it's less than 3 feet away).
The computer is completely up to date. I've installed every OS firmware, keyboard update etc available.
Incidentally, I've tried both mouse and keyboard with other computers, and they work perfectly at longer ranges (10ft or so).
I bought this system to be my media center, but if this persists, or I can't find a solution, I'm thinking about bringing it back.

  • New Mac Mini USB problem

I have a brand new Mac Mini (December, 2011, 10.7.2) as well as an older Mac Mini (circa 2005, 10.6.4).
I bought a new GearHead USB wireless mouse to go with the new mini.
The mouse works fine on the old Mini (and also on a Windows PC).
On the new Mini, the mouse works until the Mini hibernates or powers down. On wake-up, the mouse doesn't work until I unplug and replug the USB transmitter.  This is the case on all USB ports on the Mini, as well as on the keyboard and monitor USB ports. It doesn't matter which port I use or which port I unplug and replug into - I always need to unplug and replug the transmitter to get it to work after power- or hibernate-cycle.
Note that I have also tried a Logitech USB wireless mouse and an Apple Bluetooth mouse and they both work fine on both the new Mini and the old Mini.
The problem is only occurs between the Gearhead brand USB mouse and New Mac Mini (10.7.2).
I assume that the problem is that the mini is powering down the USB port and not refreshing it after power cycle, until I unplug and replug the transmitter. Alternatively, I suppose, the transmitter could be asserting itself early in the boot process before the Mini is awake enough to hear it.  In either case, it seems that the band-aid fix is a command-line to force the OS to refresh the ports, but I can't find any reference to such a command.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Hello,
I assume that the problem is that the mini is powering down the USB port and not refreshing it after power cycle,
To me it seems like when the usb is powered down the trnasmitter loses the signal with the mouse, i think your mini is perfectly fine, even though the mouse works fine on the old mini I think its how the transmitter handshakes with the new mouse on the new mac mini. Do you have a new mouse of the same brand that you can test and see if it has the same issue...
If so then it forsure the transmitter... not the mini... else take your mini in for health check.
good luck, let me know how u go...

  • Mac mini bluetooth audio connection stops when paused

    Hello!
I have a Mac mini late 2012, i5 Version, 2.5Ghz as my home Desktop. The OS is 10.9.5 Mavericks.
It's connected to a Logilink Bluetooth to 30 pin dock connector adapter, standing on an Apple Dock, connected to my Home Stereo. My Problem is, that everytime i pause the audio on my mini, the bluetooth connection just stops, and if i press play again, it plays through my internal speaker again.
I temporarily fixed this by playing a 10hour version of a song with 0 volume on itunes, but this shouldn't be a long-time solution.
I tried it with another bluetooth adapter, another dock, another home stereo. The issue probably is Mavericks, with it's awesome bluetooth settings, connect or don't connect.
Is there any program out there which sets the connection to permanent? Or is there an other solution?
Thank you very much in advance!
(Sorry for poor english. If you don't understand something, i could explain it in german!)

Ah, no joy, as suspected...I'm using Boot Camp version 4 and all i got was a flash drive full of boot camp version 3.1 - 3.3?  A few firmware upgrades that says it isn't compatible...
IS THERE ANYONE AT APPLE THAT CAN HELP!!!
Jesus! I bought this a week ago and I can't even get audio!  If this is the kind of service coming from Apple then I don't know...

  • Mac Mini Bluetooth Connections Issues with Airport Extreme

    Hi,
The issue I'm having is my apple bluetooth devices will not connect to my mac mini. This problem started a few weeks ago and i have narrowed it down to my Airport Extreme which is right next to my Mac Mini. I have tried adjusting the channels and removing the Wide channel option on the Airport Extreme this has helped I can use my magic pad (not really up to par but it works). When I disconnect my Airport all my bluetooth devices work great. Moving my airport extreme isn't an option without a large amount of work putting in a new cable outlet. I don't know what changed from a few weeks ago as the devices have always been within inches of each other and worked fine.
I was trying to find a way to disable the 2.4 band on the airport extreme but this for as far as i know can't be done. I'm running out of ideas on what to do next any help would be great.

Are you sure it's not the monitor? Monitors have been known to do this.
Try changing the broadcast channel on the AEX using the Airport Utility.

I have an issue where I get Bluetooth mouse/keyboard at the login screen, but once it goes to the desktop they are both dead. This only happens when I have my Drobos plugged up via FireWire. If I boot without those devices plugged in, it works.
    Anything like that for you?

  • Mac Mini Mail Problem

Hi - I recently bought a Mac Mini so that I could have a desktop and a laptop (I'd been using the Titanium G4 as both) and I have been having trouble with the email on the Mini. Right off, I should say that the G4 had 768MB of RAM whereas my Mini only has 512MB. But the Mini is 1.5 GHz versus just 800 MHz for the G4. (I clearly don't know which of those matters more in a situation like this.)
Anyway, whenever someone sends me a large file now, it takes a dog's age to get it on the Mini. And while it's clearly downloading it in the background, it seems to ignore if I delete other emails, etc. For example, I might read 10 emails and delete them, and notice that I have wait for some attachment to download, and minimize mail in the interim. When I open it again, those same emails that I deleted are in my inbox again. Occasionally, I have gone to mac.com to delete files, and eventually my mail app notices this and deletes them as well, but clearly large files are causing a problem when they're sent to me.
It's not a bandwidth issue, as my G4 handled large attachments way better with the same Internet connection, and continues to do so while wirelessly connected to it. My guess is it's the RAM, but I really don't know. Do I need to go out and double the RAM on the Mini to make this stop?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Mac mini Overscan problem

Hello, i just purchased a Mac mini and have connected it with DVI to HDMI onto my Panasonic plasma TV. The problem with this was if i turn overscan on the display is too big and is extended over the sides and some area isn't visble to me. If i turn overscan off there are black areas which is not covered around the sides of the screen. I have never had this with my PC connecting to this TV with HDMI DVI. But for some reason this problem is happneing to me right now...is there a Mac special software that can adjust the screen size so i can stretch the display around to manipulate it to a full screen size without anything being cut out or under cut in my display?

When you connected the PC and had no trouble with overscan, is there a way to capture the details of the timing involved? Because if you apply the same settings from the mini, there is no reason the TV shouldn't react to timing in the same way, meaning no overscan.

  • Mac Mini: Bluetooth Module (Creating a Buzz)

I have a high pitched buzzing sound coming from my Mac Mini's audio out right channel whenever the Bluetooth module is active. I have tried numerous recommendations and suggestions, but nothing seems to eliminate the buzz. Outside of disabling the Bluetooth or purchasing an USB audio interface. This situation is proving to be a disappointing one. Primarily because of the indented use for the Mini as a digital music and movie storage and playback unit, is being compromised by me having to hover over my computer instead of relaxing from the sofa without obtrusive wires being everywhere. Please... any help will be greatly appreciated.

As posted in the other thread:
Sean, you might try a ferrite ring which should be obtainable from Radio Shack. It'll be about an inch in diameter and you thread the speaker cable through it and wrap a few turns around it. This will act as an RF (Radio Frequency) choke, filtering out frequencies above the audio level (ie, the BT signal which is causing the interference).
Ferrite rings are typically used by radio hams to cut down signal breakthrough into audio or tv equipment. The size of the ring and the number of turns of the cable will determine how much filtering it applies.

  • Mac Mini Audio Problem

    Hi,
My Mac mini is only sending sound to one side of the headphone. I can get sound on the right but no sound on the left. I'm wondering if the sound card might need replacing ???
    Any help would be appreciated.

Actually I'm trying to hook it up to my stereo so I was trouble shooting with the headset as I only get sound from one speaker. The Bose rep suggested I try a head phone to make sure the problem is coming from the mac mini. Is it possible to hook up to a stereo via a usb?(USB to Stereo input cables?) Also do you think that would help? I've tried new head phone to stereo cables between the two and same problem....
