Mac Mini color question - no crisp white?

I just bought my Mac Mini and plugged it into a Dell monitor with the VGA cable.
How do I get a crisp white on active windows? Everything is sorta purple . . .

If you are not able to get a clean white either by selecting a pre-set profile or after going through the calibration steps in the display preferences, and if the cables are firmly connected (disconnect and reconnect to make sure), then try opening the Universal Access control panel, and in the seeing tab, drag the 'enhance contrast' slider a little to the right. Don't go too far or it will tend to wash the image out, but on my Dell 17" LCD, that helps reduce the greyish cast.

  • After rebooting late 2012 Mac Mini a question mark appears on screen

    Hi guys,
After rebooting my late 2012 Mac mini model No A1347 I have a question mark inside a folder always when i try to start my Mac Mini. I understand that I need to reinstall Mac OS X, but I have tryed holding the command, option, R and P keys and nothing happens... I also think the wireless keyboard is maybe not sincronised with the computer, maybe?
I am clueless in how to proceed.
Offcourse, there is no DVD drivein the new mac minis so i can't just reinstall it from a CD.
    Please help!!!
    Thank you!!

You need to press either the Option key or the Command and R keys. If this doesn't work with the wireless keyboard, use a wired one.
If you can get it booted to a normal Mac OS X system, select that system in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

  • Mac Mini Purchase Question HDTV

    Hello,
I want to buy a mac mini for an entertainment computer. I think the hdmi out will be great.
All I want to do is watch movies through my samsung 55" HDTV.
I am wondering if the basic model will be enough or should I get a suped up model.
If I need a suped up model, what do I need. More RAM, Processor Power, or what? I use a shared network drive at home so storage is not an issue.
    Thanks,
    James

"Watch movies" could mean a lot of things. If you are talking about purchased iTMS content then a minimum configuration will be fine. If you are talking about movies from other sources, then it becomes harder to answer the question without knowing more about the sources.
Certain very high bit rate content, like 1080p at high frame rates and encoded in such a way that hardware decoding can't be used...movies like that could give trouble without some thought and care put into the configuration. But most likely, you will be fine with a minimum configuration.

  • Mac Mini Flashing Question Mark

I'm trying to help a friend troubleshoot his Mac Mini.  Based on the model number (A1103) it appears to be a late-2005.  I've tried the following:
Unplug keyboard and mouse & boot:  still boots to flashing question mark
Option boot to try to get to startup manager to select startup manager:  boots to restart arrow and right facing arrow; there is no response from clicking on right facing arrow.
Boot to install disk holding C key during startup to get to Disk Utility to repair disk:  will not boot to startup disk, instead boots to flashing question mark.
    Reset PRAM:  no difference.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

There is no valid system for the Mac to boot into. Reinstall Mac OS X.

  • TS3824 2011 mac mini won't go past white screen with apple logo

My Mac mini won't move past a white screen with apple logo in the center. What should I do?

    Hi ..
If you have v10.7 Lion installed, use Lion Recovery  to repair the startup disk if necessary, or reinstall the Mac OS X.
If you are running a prior Mac OS X, boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility. The startup disk may need repairing >  Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
And try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

  • Mac Mini upgrade questions...

I just got a mac mini and have some questions regarding its upgrade capabilities...
Besides RAM (using apple or 3rd party RAM) can you add an airport card or bluetooth?
Is there a site that posts how much apple stores charge for adding ram and other parts? or do i need to call my local store?
    Thanks!

Ram you can do yourself without much fuss. The Airport+Bluetooth requires a kit for a riser card to make it work with the mini and is just worth letting the local Apple store install it.
Ram prices change all the time if you do it yourself:
http://www.ramseeker.com and on the top left select Macintosh Model as the Mini
Airport+Bluetooth will be looking close to a Ben Franklin + labour charge if any by your local Apple Store.

  • Inverting my Mac's colors -- question

Is there any way to invert my Mac's colors (CTRL + OPT + COMMAND + 8) only on my desktop and not in any of my applications?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Recently i also got this flashing question mark error. The apple told me that its an Internal HD error.
Well how common is that with the macbook ?
The apple did changed my Internal HD ( for free). New one - Hitachi. I also have backup on my External HDD where the latest backup was 2 weeks before my Intenal HD crashed.
Is it safe to do the system restore completely on my new internal HD without causing any new problems ? As i have heard that the complete system restore can give lot of trouble.
And one more question, after getting repair, am I eligible to apply for Apple Care protection Plan ?
My warranty expires on 26th January 2010.
    Thank you

  • Intel Mac mini: upgrading questions...

Hi, I'm going to buy the new intel mac mini but I'm a little afraid for the graphic card inside the tiny machine...
What about music recording? (GarageBand, Logic Express...)
What about games? (Doom3, The Sims...) It's better than the nVidia 5200 that was inside the first gen of iMacG5?
What about video editing? It's the Mac mini fast enaugh to perform simple video operations or I need a more powerful computer? Maybe the new iMac?... Please help me!

I can't tell you about games, though if you scan through these Discussion threads in the next week or so I'd bet you'll find plenty of references to game playing on the new mini as people buy them and try them out. At the present moment, having only been announced a couple of days ago, there aren't many of the systems in actual use yet, so there's not much information to go on.
But it has to be said that it has always been a mistake to assume the physical size of the system reflects anything of it's capabilities. The PPC mini that has just been discontinued and which was slower and more limited than the new system appears to be was perfectly capable of running such things as Garageband, and doing complex video editing projects, so there's absolutely no reason to assume the new mini won't be more capable. The fact that it has an integrated graphics processor that shares RAM with the CPU has got a whole lot of people in a tizzy, but despite the comments some are making about it, they don't have any first-hand knowledge (as yet) and thus have no clue how well or badly it performs.
I'd urge you to find one of these systems in a local Apple store or retailer and play with it for a bit - I would expect you to be pleasantly surprised, even shocked, at how well it behaves. If you can't get access to one, watch these Discussions and read what actual owners and users begin to report, not what 'experts' are thinking.

  • Keynote Performance on Mac Mini (General Question)

I'm hoping the awesome community of Apple users can provide some much needed insight for a guy who's been out of the Apple scene since 2005. I am looking to purchase a Mac Mini 2.3GHz quad-core i7 for the sole purpose of running Keynote on Sunday's at my church. Currently, we have on loan a 15" MacBook Pro (not sure the specs, but I believe it was purchased last year) and it runs Keynote like a champ! That being said, my reasoning for choosing Mac Mini is cost. Any insight into the performance of Keynote running on a vanilla Mac Mini 2.3GHz quad-core i7 would be much appreciated! Also, it would be running on multiple displays.
    Thanks
    1upmshrm

Keynote will run perfectly well on any new model of Mac. For good performance, adding additional RAM to the basic spec is advisable, a minimum of 8GB RAM should be fine.
We run a basic Mac MIni i5 with 8GB at an international conference centre running 8 hours every day.

  • None mac mini user question

    Hi!!
I have an ibook and i just wanna know something about the mac mini.
On what does it go and is it a comp... i know its newb but i just can't figure out how it work. Can we plug it on an ordinary screen?
    thx for answering me

Yes, Troy is right, it is a full-fledged computer, that now with the Intel processors has become a contender in the more powerful and higher end computing market due to the increased processing speed. Performance wise, a Mac Mini Core Duo performs at/higher than the iMac G5 for Universal Application compatible with the Intel architecture.
The slogan Apple uses is BYOKDM, Bring Your On Keyboard, Display, and Mouse, which means you can use your existing keyboard, mouse and display on your Mac Mini.
It is mainly a computer used to draw in the market of iPod users with it's lower price, yet still highly customizable hardware configurations to make the Mac Mini a pretty powerful machine.

  • 2003 Mac Mini Software question..

    Greetings!
I have a 2003 mac mini and I am confused about the software..I am up to date as far as I know with 10.6.8, but is there an OS I should download/order since I can't get the new mountain lion? (it says that it isn't compat. with my mini)
Basically, I'm not sure if I really am up to date. Also, is there really no possible way for me to run the new mountain lion?
    Thank you for your help!

You must have a 2006 or later if your running Snow Leopard...?
see > How to identify Mac mini models
To run Mountian Lion, you would need an Early 2009 or newer Mac Mini.
see > Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.

  • Crazy story when purchasing Mac Mini and question

I got a mac mini 2 weeks ago and never opened the applecare protection plan.. I got rung up for the 599- version but the retail store ( not apple store) gave me a 799- version. I didnt know until I got it to my office. Well two weeks later the kid who rang me up called me ( i have an account there) and said I owed them the 200-.. I said no it was their problem not mine, the manager picks up and says its fine but my warranty is no good. How is this true? Will the applecare not be covered? I don't understand how me giving them $200 is gonna magically make my warranty work? I already registered the mac mini to my name so am I missing something?
Thanks for reading, need your opinion.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I'm not sure that getting the opinions of other Apple users is really going to help you much, because none of us know any more than you do. However, in your situation I would not leave the matter there.
My first reaction would be to talk to Apple's Customer Service and ask them for clarification. Bearing in mind that some legal jurisdictions have different laws, you could find, for example, that Apple have no latitude and not only must honor the error in providing the better system, but also the warranty because you paid for it.
Alternatively, you could suggest that in the circumstances, you're prepared to return the unit for a full refund, in which case then buy a new model mini with better specifications for the same amount.
One way or another, I would not have the store dictate an outcome which you are not happy to accept, unless and until it is clear from Customer Relations that they have gone as far as they reasonably can to meet your expectations.
