Mac Mini does not detect DVI monitor on boot but does so on awake

Hi,
my Mac Mini fails to detect a monitor on the DVI port when it boots (monitor says no signal).
If I leave it a few minutes to boot, then put it to sleep and awake using the power button, then the display appears.
This problem does not occur with the DVI-to-VGA adapter, and I have tried with 2 separate DVI monitors (different brands) and cables (both monitors are fine with Windows PCs).
I have tried various resolutions and color depths, to no avail.
Any ideas about how to resolve this?

What brand and model of monitor do you have?

    There is no workaround here.
Only a prompt update from apple will solve this.

    Hi marconi de baloni,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like the computer is not recognizing a second display. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
OS X Yosemite: Connect multiple displays to your Mac
If a display is not recognized, choose Apple menu > System Preferences on the primary Mac, click Displays, then click Display.
Open the Display pane for me
Then click the Detect Displays button.
You can also try putting your Mac to sleep and then waking it.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Mac Mini does not detect DVI display on startup

Okay, I have a Pre 2009 Mac Mini 2Ghz Core 2 Duo. My monitor is a Westinghouse Digital LCM-22w3. The display is hooked up through DVI. When I start or restart the mac, it seems that it does not detect the display is plugged in. I have to wait for OS X to finish booting to either put the mac to sleep and bring it out of sleep or unplug the DVI cable and plug it back in to get the display on. If I hook the display via VGA using the VGA to DVI converter there is no problem. I have tried resetting the NVRAM but that does not fix the problem. I would like to get this fixed so I don't have to switch cables to be able to boot my boot camp windows install. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Following some investigations the problem appears to be with the power saving features of the monitor.
The MAC mini knows that the monitor is connected but the monitor puts itself to sleep.
The problem appears only when you use a single link DVI-D cable.
These are the ones with two blocks of nine pins with one large blade.
If you use a Dual link DVI-D cable (twenty four pins and one blade) the problem resolves itself and the display is active from power on.
It looks like the mini or the monitor is using one of the pins from the middle block of six for some reason.
Anyway, good look with this, I had a couple of spare DVI cables from when I was trying to get my original G4 mini working with my TV.
    Regards
    Gavin

My new Mini will not drive two monitors, the old one did and they are the same monitors

Hello IIIaass Kind of you to take the time, the situation is now resolved through Support Chat (an exhausting process) and turned out to be a dodgy Thunderbolt/HDMI cable which had worked with my old Mac Mini but not the new one. The moral is "Try a new cable first" Thanks

  • My Mac mini no longer detects my monitor resolution

My Mac Mini has stopped being able to detect the resolution of my monitor, which is a 1680x1050 Acer widescreen.  1680x1050 is also no longer a choice of resolutions under 'Displays' in 'System Preferences' so I cannot select my monitor resolution manually.  I suspect that there is a bug somewhere in a recent update which has broken support for my monitor.  Is there an official channel by which I can report this bug?  Has it been reported already?  Is there an ETA on a fix?  This renders my Mac more or less unusable.

It's unlikely that the upgrades had anything to do with the problem, slim superdrives are just not all that reliable.
You might try a few tricks before taking it in for service or springing for a Mac compatable external DVD drive.
    1. Reset the SMC > Resetting the System Management Controller
    2. Reset the PRAM > Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    3. Clean it, for example with a > Memorex OptiDisc CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner

  • MacBook Pro 2011 does not detect external monitor

    I have a MacBook Pro 13'' early 2011 runing Lion 1.7.2.
I have an HP v185ws external monitor connected via an Apple Thunderbolt to VGA connector.
Since last month's Thunderbolt firmware update, my external monitor is no longer detected.
Does anybody has a solution to this problem?
    Thanks.

I have a problem connecting external display (Dell U2311H) to my 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011).
I use Tecklink Mini DasplayPort to HDMI adapter (http://www.techlink.uk.com/products/wires_cables/wiresmedia/wiresmedia_media/wir esmedia_mini_displayport_plug_to_hdmi_plug), but since U2311H doesn't have HDMI input, I also use Manhattan DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (http://www.manhattan-products.com/en-US/products/8101-displayport-adapter).
    And nothing.
The display is not detected, no picture or even external monitor presence at all.
I even reset PRAM, and installed 10.8.2 Supplementary update.
I also plugged and unplugged all I could, with no luck.
As I can see on Apple discussion, it is a common problem with 2011 MacBook Pro's.
It seems like the problem is in Thundebolt port, it somehow does not work properly.

  • 2014 Mac Mini won't detect Dell monitor on startup

On a cold start or waking from sleep it is necessary to reset the PRAM in order for the Mini to recognize a Dell P2014H.  Restarts are not a problem.
This was not an issue with an older MacBook Pro or an Air at the Genius Bar.  I have resolved this by setting preferences to never turn the display off but don't consider this a permanent fix.
I'm running 10.10.1 and connected via VGA to a Thunderbolt port.  The monitor is only 7 months old so I'm not inclined to replace it yet or add even more cables to my collection just to find that doesn't fix anything.  In fact when another 2014 Mini was connected to my monitor at the Apple store it had the same problem.
On the other hand our 2012 Mini has never had issues with a Dell U2412M.   So what's up Apple?

I just bought a Mac Mini with latest operating system 10.10.1 and had the same problem. I also used a monitor with HDMI cable. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Apple Care tech but no solutions. I took it back to shop and they tested it but did not have a HDMI cable and used a thunderbolt adapter. It worked fine. Bought a Thunderbolt adapter for HDMI cable and problem solved. Both mouse and keyboard now wake up system. Perhaps a future update will solve this but for now I'm happy.

  • Mac Mini fails to detect Aluminum Keyboard at Boot, Aka Support Keys

I've recently had the misfortune of diagnosing a failing hard drive on a my Mac mini. This is a First Gen Intel Mac Min, 1.6ghz, so its about 2 years old now. I have recently purchased a new Aluminum Keyboard, as my older white Apple keyboard had started to have issues, ( some of the keys weren't working any more).
When I started to go through the diagnostics I was concerned that my Mac mini was further in trouble than just a bad HD. As with each boot, the Mac would fail to recognize the standard startup keys, CMD+S, V, Or Even C, D. Nothing I tried could I get the Mac Mini to startup in any mode other than normal startup, which at this point was failing.
I managed to dig out the original White apple keyboard, and plug it in, how ever with only partial keyboard access, trouble shooting was extremely limited.
So the question that I have, is there a way to correct the Mac Mini so it recognizes the Aluminum keyboard during start up, or do I need to find a working white keyboard on E-bay?

The thread has been 'archived' meaning that it dates from a long time ago (two years) and has not had any posts in the intervening time. Threads in that situation are archived so they can be searched and reviewed, but no further contributions added. The exception to no further contributions is that the OP of the thread can add to it - the intention being that OPs can return and mark threads as solved and award stars, also add commentary to clarify their resolution if they need to. Sadly in some instances OPs have added comments which are misleading or inaccurate, but of course no-one else can add further posts to say so!
If you use the 'report this post' link and ask the Hosts to unlock the thread to correct an erroneous addition, they can do so (though they may not of course!
Your comments would have made a welcome clarification I think!

  • Acrobat X Pro does not install PDF toolbar in Firefox, but does in IE.  How to fix?

Also, I see that Acrobat X Pro does not install all plugins.  There are several that I want shown as not installed.  But how can I get these installed, as there is no button to say "install this"??

Got a partial fix - In Firefox, the Adobe PDF Toolbar gets installed in "Disabled" mode.  To enable, go to "Tools->Add-ons->Extensions", select "Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF" and enable it.
Now, as for the rest of the Acrobat plugins, I'm still trying to find a way to enable them.  Any ideas?

  • Dv9000 laptop dvd drive and webcam not found. drive initializes on boot but does not show up.

The DVD/CD-Rom drive will initialize and will read a CD when inserted but it does not show up in the BIOS or in Windows. It's a Lighscribe drive. The webcam was not found either. I recently reloaded this machine for a friend back to the factory setup. Installed all additional software and everything is working but the drive and the camera. Is there any way to actually test these devices for failure? Or is there a patch or a software package I may be missing? It's a dv9000 but it has dv9007 on the bottom. And an AMD processor.  If anybody has any ideas I would greatly appreciate the help.

    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
It does not show up in either one. The camera or the DVD drive.  No X's or error Triangles. I guess they could have gone bad at the same time but that's not likely. It would be one heck of a coiencidence. I am wondering if there is an alternate chipset driver or patch. Maybe a controller driver? The system has dv9000 on the display and dv9700 on the model # tag. I believe 1 is Inter and the other NVidia. But the Factory image installed the NVidia drivers.

  • Led Light on MageSafe Charger Does not light;MacBook Air Recognizes it but does not charge

So I've had my MacBook Air (Mid-2011) for over a year now. The reason I am posting this is because I originally had a 40W MagSafe "L" Shape that came with my MacBook Air. Well I accidently spilled Pepsi on it while it was plugged in and you get the gist of that. Well I had bought an 85W "L" Shape adapter and it works perfectly fine, no problems. I've had the 40W stored away for probably 5 months or so and recently got the itch to work on it and try to trouble shoot it. Being an IT student, I get a hunch to just take apart things and try to fix them. But anyway, I've reset the prongs on the L part itself, I've changed the plug in to the 3 prong AC instead of the "Duck Face" thing. I've checked for SMC updates and it told me my MacBook does not need it. Well when I plug in my charger, it is recognized immediately by my MacBook. But on the top where the battery level is, it says "Battery is not Charging" and also says "Power Source: Power Adapter". So I am a little confused as to why it won't charge. I let it dry out when this first happened in some rice but I am not sure that did anything for it. I also have cleaned it, like i said I reset the prongs on the L shaped adapter itself. I haven't on the other hand gone and opened it, just because messing with those adapters and any adapters can lead to you getting shocked regardless. So if anyone has any suggestions let me know, I would like to use this charger as a At home charger or my mobile charger when I go to school. Thanks!

I let it dry out when this first happened in some rice but I am not sure that did anything for it
"drying it out" does nothing as per the acid in the soda and sticky corrosive sugar and acid left behind.
Youve gone thru $100 worth of effort in repairing a $60 charger, and plan on more effort.
Either a used charger online would be a cheaper option and better than possibly causing logic board damage to your macbook Air.
