Mac mini doesn't wake after ram upgrade
Hi
I recently upgraded my mac mini from 2gb ram to 8gb ram and noticed that when the mac goes to sleep and the tv ( through hdmi wire) goes into standby that the mac mini will not send a signal to the tv anymore to wake up the tv from standby when I need it too from tapping on keyboard or moving mouse. At first I thought it was because of a software upgrade on the mac mini but when I switched back the ram to 2gb the mac mini will send the signal to wake the tv . I am just wondering has anyone come across this problem and what the solution is . I hav already reset pram setting and the usual things that everyone has mentioned in other posts . This seems to be a major flaw in apple deisgn unless they have a fix . I am stuck with my 2gb ram now in the mac which doesnt even have any speed . the only way I can use the 8gb ram is if i turn the mac on and off everytime I want to use it , as this is the only way to wake the tv with the 8gb ram inside as it doesnt wake the tv from sleep. This totally contradicts what apple say in their manual aswell, they say not to power down your mac if your using it everyday just put it to sleep which wont help me in my case . So at the end of this rant my only two options are to continue to use 8gb ram and have to power on and off mac everytime to wake the tv or use my 2gb ram which makes the mac run really slow as 2gb is not enough but hey aleast my tv will come back on from sleep mode .

Mac mini won't boot after RAM upgrade.
Tried installing new RAM in my Mac Mini, 512MB stock to 2GB of Crucial. Followed the directions to a T, grounded myself the whole time.
Things I've tried so far:
1. Resetting the PRAM, no luck.
2. Holding option at start-up, shows no icon.

You clearly have a problem, but you don't describe exactly what that is other than that your mini won't boot after the upgrade. What happens when it starts up? Does it attempt to start and hang up on the grey or blue screens, or does it start beeping at you almost immediately after you try and start it up, and also flash the power light?
If the former, then you may have dislodged a connector while working inside the system, in which case opening it up and checking that everything is firmly connected would be the first thing to do. If the latter, then the beeping/light flashing is the system telling you it has failed the power-on self test and the pattern of beeps/lights indicates why. In your case likely the system can't find workable memory. In that instance, opening the system and ensuring that the RAM is firmly and fully seated would be a good step, and if the mini continues to fail, then replacing the new RAM with the original to test that the system will then start.
It is not likely that anything had damaged your MacOS install in the process of upgrading, thus normally no reason to need to boot to CD as a result of a RAM issue. -
Mac Mini Won't Start after RAM upgrade
Hi, I just tried upgrading my RAM from 1GB to 2GB on my Intel Core Solo Mac Mini. When i hooked everything back up it wouldn't start up. So I replaced the original RAM and the same thing happened. I get to the gray apple screen with the gray spinning wheel and then it just shuts off. What could be my problem? Are their any solutions?
Welcome to Apple Discussions, though I suspect the circumstances could be better!
It's not unusual for 'bad RAM' to cause a system to fail to boot, but the disturbing feature of your problem is that when the previous memory is reinserted, the system continues to fail. What makes it worse is that you describe the system shutting off after failing to boot - that is not a common symptom of something simple like bad memory, and may mean that in the initial upgrade, something was damaged or dislodged, or not reconnected correctly.
I would open up the system again, and disassemble it sufficiently that you can reseat the original RAM which was working correctly prior to the upgrade, then check that everything is connected correctly internally, and the CPU heatsink is firmly attached. If that doesn't result in the system working, or at least in different symptoms such as being stuck on the grey screen but no longer shutting down, then I would look for an Apple store in the area and make an appointment at the genius bar for them to have a look - that would not bear a cost in the first instance for them to give their opinion. -

My mac mini (with the super drive) doesn't come back all the time on a key press after going to sleep. I have to shut it down and start it again. I am using Lion.

Hdmi sound on my mac mini has stopped working after I upgraded the OS
I just upgraded the iOS on my Core i5 Mac mini to 10.8.5 and my hdmi sound on my monitor stopped working. I have tried rebooting and adjusting the Audio midi settings and nothing seems to work. I know the mac mini speakers are working and the monitors speakers are working. What do I try next?
Resetting the NVRAM / PRAM, as per > About NVRAM and PRAM
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

Mac Mini doesn't startup after failure firmware update..
Hello.
I have a mac mini.
Downloaded firmware update and Mac OS X update through MAC OS X Software Update.
After that my Mini Mac ask me to restart.
And now my display shows "No signal" message and no startup sound. Indicator lights up, can hear Hard Drive sound and DVD disk sound, optical mouse lights up... and nothing else.
I tried to reset PMU... nothing again (Hey Guys today i updated my macmini from 10.5 to 10.5.2 i downloaded the file 343MB on http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1052comboupdate.html since i have a slow connection i took me 5 hours to download the file after installed and and saw the success intallation with a green checkmark then restart and it presented me a blank white screen as i was reading the discussion i read that just leave it as the OS is doing it's thing but there is no indication whatsoever just a blank screen. then i saw my SD card reader blinking i remove it thinking that its the cost why there is now indicator that the HD is still reading so ive waited for 30mins without touching a thing and finally i heard the CHIME OF RELIEF the apple logo flashes and I have installed my OS 10.5.2 successfully

Mac Mini doesn't wake from sleep, stays black.
I recently purchased a Mac Mini at the Apple store. I'm using an Apple bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. Problem is, when the mini goes to sleep, it won't wake back up. Nothing I can do apart from a hard restart by pressing the start button will wake the computer up. I don't know what to do to fix this. Is it something in settings?

Mac Mini fan running loudly after Safari upgrade
Mac Mini 2GHz is around 2 months old. All been fine until yesterday. When running Safari (it seems) and not necessarily heavy usage fan starts runningvery loudly. In the previous 2 months NEVER heard the fan or at least it's been very quiet, so am quite concerned. It appears that this has coincided with updating to the very latest Safari release 3.1.1.
Anyone else having similar problem and/or advice?

DThe new Safari release supposedly has some issues with Flash media files and with Windows Media files -- and will require updates of the helper programs that display those formats.
Does the fan run loudly when you visit sites with such files? Or does it also run loudly if all you visit is sites with no video files on them? -
Mac OS Lion Kernel Panic after RAM upgrade
Hi everyone.
Yestarday I upgraded RAM of my MBP from 4GB to 8GB. Note 4GB wasn't native, when I bought MBP it had 2GB.
Both RAM (2x2GB and 2x4GB) is Samsung.
For last day I had 3 Kernel Panic!!! Never got it BEFORE.
I run memory test and it showed that RAM is OK.

my first attempt to upgrade my RAM failed.
After correct installation of 2 Kingston 1GB Ram (Typ: RMN 2-.800/1GB SO-Dimm DDR 2), my notebook didn't start again, only 5 short sounds (in owners manual: not the right extended memory).
Curios: 1 Kingston 1 GB-Ram mixed with original Toshiba 512 MB-Ram, the notebook boots, but reaches only 896 MB extended memory. Performance not signifikant better.
Who can help me ?
Andi11Is that Kingston memory 800MHz? That laptop is designed for 533MHz Memory (PC4200). Usually the 800MHz Memory will bump down to 533MHz (probably using the SPD table), but there may be a compatibility problem.
So ultimately you should buy 533MHz DDR2 Memory with similar CAS/RAS Timing as the original Toshiba Memory.
Perhaps the second RAM slot is faulty? If you run CPU-Z, can it detect the second module correctly?
Note that the Graphics card may use some System Memory as Video Memory, so it sounds like the laptop sees the 1GB Module but reserved 96MB for the graphics. -

Just got 2x 1GB sticks of DDR 400 soddim's, and no boot.
Now after reading up on what I could find on similar models, seems that these older laptops may not handle that fast of ram?

If the notebook doesnt boot up then there is a big chance that the RAM is either nto compatible or its faulty.
I think its not compatible.

According to this page the P10 supports the *200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM* memory modules!
So your RAMs are not compatible! -
Mac mini won't wake properly since osx mavericks
Since I downloaded OSX mavericks, my Mac Mini doesn't wake from sleep. I can see notifications top right of screen and the mouse pointer, so the screen is on and working. Only way to get it going is to hold down the power button to power off and then resatrt. Not very convenient!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Unstable Mac Mini 2011 after ram upgrade
I put in 8GB kit ram from Corsair. Every specific things is matching with Apple's requirement on ram upgrade. I got Corsair 8GB KIT DDR3 SO-DIMM, 1333Mhz. The first boot with the new ram was fine but after 10 minutes of normal using (Safari, Spotify) and testing open Photoshop CS5 it crashed.
I shut down the system and tried to take off the rams the put it in again just to make sure that they're there perfectly. Second boot, everythings seems work well but after a while, maybe 20 minutes, Safari crashed and a "crash log" is sending to Apple. Happened the same with Spotify, Photoshop when it was open. I couldn't reopen the programs so I did another reboot.
The third reboot, seems fine until 1h30min the whole system crashed, the computer is rebooting by itself and showing a message of "something is wrong with the system" so it needed a reboot.
And Safari crashed once again while I wrote this.
I hope someone can help me solve the problem. I'm running the lastest version of Lion Mountain (10.8.2), 2.5Ghz i5 mid 2011 Mac mini.I have used Corsair RAMs on multiple Macs with
a lot of success (running a 16 gig on a 2011 Mini Server
I am currently typing this on). It may just be you got a bad
one. It happens. Depending on where you purchased
it should be no issue replacing.
You should check though to see which is bad. Put
both of the old RAM in to make sure things still work
as before. It is possible something else may be wrong.
If all is well, then swap out with one new module at a
time and see how it works. It may be just one module
(most likely). -
Mac mini doesn't do anything after startup
My early 2009 Mac mini doesn't allow me to do anything after booting. Once the desktop loads, anything I do causes a spinning beach ball to appear.
Important info: Hard drive has over 30Gb of free space, so that isn't an issue.
Help please!To be honest, I think it's over 60Gb of free space. The hard drive is either 320Gb or 360Gb.
