    12. Can I output via Mini DisplayPort to an RCA or S-Video connection?
No. The Mini DIsplayPort connector allows output to Mini DisplayPort, DisplayPort, VGA, DVI, and HDMI connections when using the proper cables and adapters. However, output to RCA, Component, or S-Video connections is not supported.

  • New Mac Mini / DVI / Apple 17" Studio Display

    Greetings all.
I am contemplating purchasing new Mac Mini.
Currently using Mac mini / DVI adapter/ older Apple 17" studio display.
I do not intend monitor change at present.
Question is, which display adapter would allow me to use older DVI adapter/Apple 17" studio display?
Thanks for you time, looking forward to your response.

  • Mac mini,DVI to ADC adapter.

Looking at picking up the latest Mini to run logic on. I used to have an older Mac mini that I connected to the Apple studio display with a DVI to ADV adapter. Will I be able to get this display to work with a new Mini?

The new minis DON'T have a DVI out. There's an HDMI and there's T-Bolt. You can get adapters for either to VGA, DVI, HDMI and I've even seen RCA adapters. Apple probsably has HDMI-ADV or T-Bolt-ADV adapters too.
However you connect it, if you Google it long enough, you'll find an adapter to suit your needs.

  • Mac mini - dvi to svideo adapter - no screen on tv

Hello, I really don't know if anyone knows an answer of my problem.
    No one did this far.
    So I signed up here.
    Ok, my question.
I have a mac mini 1.42 ghz. I want to connect it to my sony 100hz trinitron TV with an dvi to s-video adapter. It doesn't work.
I also have a G5 1,6 ghz. At the back it has 2 connections for a screen. I use 1 connection for my studio display, the other one I use for my sony tv to watch movies etc with the dvi to svideo adapter and the svideo cable in the connector an the tv. It works fine with synchronize the screens.
Why doesn't the connector work on my mac mini to my tv??
This is the connector I use:

    Nookie.

Nevermind. Due this problem I bought a lcd tv a bit earlier then expected.
So my old tv left the building!!
Now I dont have the problem anymore.
No more s-video for me, bought another cable like it's supposed to be. Digital.
    Thanks.

  • Mac Mini - DVI to ADC Adapter - Cinema HD 23" ADC anybody?

I would like to buy a Mac Mini, but I'm not sure if it will handle an old Cinema HD 23" ADC through a DVI to ADC adapter. Anybody has this configuration? Which is the maximum resolution possible?

    Hi
unfortunately I think the Apple store have sold you the wrong item.
I'm almost certain the DVI to ADC adapter only works with ADC based flat panel displays. DVI ports can output digital or analogue signals (or a combination of the two). The adapter seems to provide digital, which is why it works with the LCD displays, but not analogue, which is why it doesn't work with the CRT displays.
Confusingly Apple did a 17" Studio display both as a CRT and LCD.
Dr. Bott do a similar adapter but they explicitly state it's not compatible with the 17" CRT.
Unfortunately I'm not sure there's a solution, as the display has an ADC connector yet I'm not aware of any adapters available that will work.

  • Mac Mini + DVI- HDMI + Toshiba 42RV530U = black screen

Hi all, I have a new Intel Mac Mini 2GHz and a Toshiba 42RV530U REGZA HDTV that I'm trying to connect, with only a black screen so far.
I believe the DVI output on the Mini is working - I can at least get a picture with a DVI-S-Video cable, but it's obviously lower resolution. The DVI-HDMI cable works - I tried it on our cable box.
When the DVI-HDMI cable is hooked up to the HDMI-1 input on the TV, the "No Signal" warning vanishes, but it's replaced by a black screen. No amount of fiddling with SwitchResX has worked so far.
I've tried coming up with values for SwitchResX based on these numbers from the manual (don't know why the H Freq and V Freq give 2 values for each). I couldn't get exact values, but pretty close. I'd ideally like to get 1080p working.
Name Resolution Vert Freq Horizontal Freq Pixel Clock
    480i 720 × 480i 59.940/60Hz 15.734/15.750kHz 27.000/27.027MHz
    480p 720 × 480p 59.940/60Hz 31.469/31.500kHz 27.000/27.027MHz
    720p 1280 × 720p 59.940/60Hz 44.955/45.000kHz 74.176/74.250MHz
    1080i 1920 × 1080i 59.940/60Hz 33.716/33.750kHz 74.176/74.250MHz
    1080p 1920 × 1080p 23.976/24Hz 26.973/27.000kHz 74.176/74.250MHz
    1080p 1920 × 1080p 59.940/60Hz 67.433/67.500kHz 148.352/148.500MHz
I've also tried repairing permissions, rebooting many times, deleting the windowserver.plist files, zapping the PRAM, etc. SwitchResX identifies the TV as "TSB-TV", which sounds the same as other posts with different Toshiba TVs. I'm able to remote into the Mini via Remote Desktop Connection to play with settings, etc.
Any suggestions? Would a DVI to Component cable work? The TV does have an analog RGB in, but this won't support high def. Thanks for any help!
    -Frank

An unforeseen twist... I tried hooking up the Mac Mini to a DVI computer monitor, also with no picture. When I hook up my Powerbook to the Toshiba via the DVI->HDMI cable.... Picture! So, looks like my new (refurbed) Mac Mini has a bad digital video output. Seems a little strange though, since the analog video output on it is working fine.
Off to the Mac store tomorrow.

  • Mac Mini: DVI+TOSlink- HDMI Adapter, still fiction?

    Hello
I've been studying for a while the best solution for connecting my early 2009 Mac Mini to my LCD TV and Blu-Ray 5.1 System. I didn't took long to figure out the "Mini-DVI->HDMI Adaptor for video" and "Mini-TOS->TOSlink for audio" scenario. The problem is that I'm short on optical inputs. After thinking it through for a while, it dawned upon me that a "DVI+TOSlink->HDMI" adapter would crack this one. This adapter would take the DVI video and the TOSlink audio signals from the Mac Mini and composite them into one single HDMI stream. It seemed far fetched that such an adapter would even exist, but I decided to give it a go.
At first, after some initial research, I only found adapters like the following:
    http://www.amazon.com/Audio-SPDIF-Toslink-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0015YYOQQ/ref=sr11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258995241&sr=8-1
    http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Toslink-HDMI-Converter-Adapter/dp/B002N8PVTM/ref=sr14?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258995241&sr=8-4.
Although they do convert the DVI signal to HDMI, the same can't be said in regard to the TOSlink audio signal. The audio part is not encoded into the HDMI stream, getting out through the same optical port it got in.
I was about to let it go when I found this adapter:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011405&pid=5369&seq=1&format=4#feedback
The are a few customer reviews that specifically state it works flawlessly with the Mac Mini.
The questions are: has anyone tried one of these? Does it really works? It it really possible to composite an HDMI stream from DVI+TOSlink inputs? If so, will it be any quality loss associated to the conversion process?
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
There is not really much converting going on with regard to DVI (D) to HDMI. I use the mini-DVI to DVI (D) adapter that came with my Mac mini and a Belkin cable that is DVI (D) on one end and HDMI on the other. The signals are compatible. But as you say I run a separate audio cable from the mini to my HDTV. That is the real conversion that is taking place in the "black box" devices to which you are linking; adding the audio to the video.
There is another route that skips the video output from the mini altogether, but it is a bit more pricey, USB. I know of two USB to HDMI "black boxes" that give you both audio and video in the HDMI stream.

  • Mac mini DVI to HDMI with Sharp Aquos 46' LCD TV

    Hi,
I currently use my 2008 Mac mini on my Sharp LC-46X20 TV using the DVI to VGA adaptor and the TVs VGA input. I currently have the resolution set at 1280 x 768 at 75hz. The picture on the whole is fine, filling the screen perfectly. However, the text is not as sharp as I would like, looking slightly blurry and jagged around the edges, poor in comparison to my iMac.
I have been toying with the idea of getting a DVI to HDMI adaptor and connecting my mac mini to the TV this way.If so will this picture fill the screen AND solve my text problems? I have heard different stories, with some people having a nightmare and some people getting it to work fine.
Was hoping someone would point me in the right direction before I spent any cash on the DVI to HDMI adaptor.
    Thanks

    Just to update this:
Got my DVI to HDMI cable today!
Plugged it in, booted her up and was presented with a perfect 1080p HDMI signal without having to alter any display settings.

In my display menu I have 10 resolutions to play with with , 3 of which are full 1080p, one is specifically for PAL tv in the UK.
    Couldn't be happier!

  • Mac Mini DVI to HDMI (blank screen, "no signal")

I have an older Mac Mini with just DVI.  I bought a Monster Cable DVI to HDMI adapter (http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=4596) trying to hook up to a Samsung 46" LCD TV.  All i see is a black screen with "No Signal".  What am I doing wrong?  This worked when I had a straight DVI to HDMI cable (from MonoPrice).

  • How do I connect my Mac Mini (DVI) to a monitor (VGA) and 2 TV's (HDMI)?  What equipment do I need?

I have an older Mac Mini with a DVI out.  Right now using a monitor with VGA in, and since my Mini came with the adapter, all is good.  However, I'm trying to use this setup to also connect 2 50" TV's that have HDMI's.  What would be the proper setup in order to run the mini and the monitor along with the TV's?  Thanks!

  • Mac Mini DVI to component adaptor

recently purchased a DVI to component adaptor but the Mac Mini uses a different video card. I have also searched the discussion area and found many questions on this topic but very few answers.
I know that I could use a DVI to composite or S-Video but I want to use component. If anyone who has a new Mac Mini has gotten a cable that works please let me know from where.
Additionally, I tried to use DVI to VGA to component, heard through the grapevine that it might work, but again no luck. If someone has gotten that to work, what adaptors are you using.
Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge

DVI to component adaptors exist, but they're not made by Apple or for Apple systems. Original poster has purchased a third party one for a PC video card that does support component output.
Apple provides no solution for this. Only option is to buy the svideo one, or buy an external AV receiver/switcher, DVI to HDMI cable, and plug it in by that, and output from the AV receiver using component.

  • Mac mini - dvi to hdmi and 1380x768 resolution

    Hi,
I've connected my mac mini to a samsung television with a dvi - hdmi cable. Running 1280x720 I get a very nice picture, but also a black belt around the picture. In order to use the full screen (but not overscan) I suspect a 1380x768 resolution is called for. How do I get about that?
    Kind regards, Torben

  • Why my new Mac mini  DVI dual link mini display port adapter doesn't work  with my 30"display (LG W3000H)?

    Hello There
Can any of you advise on the below? Tried to connect Mac mini with a 30" display through a DVI dual link mini display port adapter. For the first try Mac mini go connected to the display, then i've chosen the highest resolution (2560x1600, native) and right at that moment they got disconected. Since then the display stays black. What can be the issue, is it possible DVI dual link mini display port adapter is not compatible with 30"display (LG W3000H)? It works with DVI male-male cable plus DVI HDMI adapter as long as the resolution stays under 1280x800. Any idea is much appreciated.
    Thank you, Vera

    Hi,
I can report that my Mac Mini Intel Duo connected instantly and without even having to set it up (on the first try) with my 1366x768 native resolution DELL 50" Plasma Display. It's so beautiful that I just want to stand there and fondle my HDTV as I drool haplessly like Homer Simpson with a doughnut in his mouth. Seriously, no problems.... guess I bought the right cable (ebay).
Before you buy a Duo, make sure you're aware of the airport and bluetooth issues that so many (maybe everyone who tries to use them together) are having. It seems that bluetooth interferes with airport, or maybe the other way around. Anyway, it's messed up. Also, Airport reception is generally VERY poor with the new Intel Mac Mini.
Despite these things, I still love mine (I now have 2 base stations and an airport express for my powerhouse wireless needs, and an external DLink bluetooth-2-USB dongle solved the bluetooth/airport issues... in my case).

    hey all,
i am using a mac mini (1.42 G4 80gb 512 combo) on a sharp HDTV using a DVI to HDMI cable.
everything works but i have a problem that it is slightly blurred, this makes text (especially small fonts) very difficult to read.

  • Mac mini DVI through AV Reciever with hdmi switching

I have a Harman Kardon AVR445 receiver which had the ability to switch between two hdmi inputs and send hdmi to my television (Viewsonic 27" LCD). I plugged in my mac mini (Intel Core Duo) using a DVI-hdmi cable and my cable box to my receiver. Everything worked great. I could switch between the computer and cable box and the picture was great on the tv.
Now, when I shut of the receiver and later turn it back on, I have a problem. The cable box still works fine. But when i switch to the hdmi input used by the mac mini, there is no signal. The only way I can get it back is to put the mini into sleep (via the power switch or the Front Row remote) and then wake it up again.
I'm trying to get some information from Harman Kardon on what happens to the hdmi inputs at power down (standby actually) but so far, the tech representative has only stated the get "shut down".
I've even tried using the program SwitchResX to always keep the display at 1024x768 in case the computer is switching to an incompatible mode but I have not had any luck here.
Does anyone have any idea what could be happening to this signal lines that would cause the mac mini to stop outputing it's display? And why won't it return when the receiver is turned on again?
    Thanks
Mac Mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I imagine you could spend a lot of time trying to debug this while getting no closer to a fix. If you really want this to work, what you might consider investing in is a Gefen DVI Detective.
    http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1378
In spite of the typo in the first line on Gefen's website, what the DVI Detective does is store a monitor's EDID (not the computer's EDID as it says on the website; computers don't have any EDID. Monitors do.) and it will then "spoof" the monitor so that when the Detective is attached to the mini's DVI output, the mini will think there is always a monitor attached and will never get confused by an HDMI switch or a sleeping receiver or whatever it is that is causing the mini to lose track of your 27" TV. You will be able to set the mini to the output you desire and from the mini's point of view it will be as though the monitor never gets disconnected so it will constantly output the same format/timing. End of problem.
