A pre-2009 mini should work with a DVI to Video Adapter. The user comments on the Apple Store page indicate that the Apple Mini-DVI to Video adapter does not work with the current (2009) mini or with other Macs that use nVidia 9400M graphics hardware.

  • How can I turn mac mini into wifi access point for iPhone?

    Hi,
I do not have a wifi router.
I want my iPhone to be able to use my broadband internet instead of the slow EDGE internet.
The simple solution would be to buy a wifi router whih would enable my iPhone to access the wifi home network.
*What if I could turn the mac mini into a wifi access point?* That would save me from the hassle of buying a wifi router.
Any idea how to do this??

    I did this.
I think I am doing something wrong. I am doing something wrong in this setting *from ethernet to airport*.
    see attached screenshot.
To start Internet sharing on a computer using Mac OS X:
    1. Open System Preferences, click Sharing, and then click Internet.
    2. Select how you would like to share your Internet connection, and then click Start. You
can choose to share your Internet connection with AirPort-enabled computers,
computers with built-in Ethernet, or both.
    Note:
If your Internet connection and your local network use the same port (built-in
Ethernet, for example), contact your ISP before you turn on Internet sharing. In some
cases (if you use a cable modem, for example) you might unintentionally affect the
network settings of other ISP customers, and your ISP might terminate your service to
prevent you from disrupting its network.
    3. If you want to share your Internet connection with computers using AirPort, click
AirPort Options to give your network a name and password.

  • Does anybody knows how to get sound from my Mac Mini into my Bose Lifestyle V35?

Hi, I am trying to get sound from my Mac Mini into my Bose Lifestyle V35...I get perfect image but no sound... any idea? Thanks

You don't mention which version of Mac Mini that you have.  Here is some info from Apple.

  • Want to run a Mac Mini into a 50" Samsung Plasma screen TV...will it work?

The TV is a Samsung PN50B850 Plasma screen with a VGA input: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-pn50b850/4505-6482_7-33490381.htm l
Hee are the tech specs: http://ecoustics-cnet.com.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-pn50b850/4507-6482_7-334903 81.html?tag=mncol;psum
From what I can tell it should just plug right into the VGA input on the TV...but my question is am I going to have any issues with resolution or anything like that?
Also, from the pictures it looks like the DVI to VGA adapter that apple offers is only like 3 inches long? Do they make them longer than this? I had planned on mounting the TV on the wall above my fireplace on an arm that tilts and swings out about 2-3 ft and just sitting the Mac Mini on the mantle...anyways I didn't want to go away on vacation, have my mom come over, adjust the TV, and send my Mac Mini to its untimely death:(

Could you please tell me the exact settings you have on your TV and your mac.
Under what menu are you selecting PC DVI?
What resolution and other settings do you have your mac set to?
Currently I have mine setup like so:
Mac Mini with mini dvi to dvi adaptor then a cable dvd to hdmi.
I then have that hdmi plug into port 2 of my tv that says (HDMI/DVI on it.
On the mac I have resolution set to 1920 x 1080 and i have overscan ticked.
The picture is OK but up close i would not say it is perfectly crisp (especially text) but from a about 6 feet away it seems fine.
Is the text on your screen pin sharp?
    Thanks in advance

My question - do I simply use iTunes sharing? Or can I point my MacBook to the new shared library? Which is preferred.
iTunes sharing is one approach.  iTunes will have to be running
at all times on the "server" and it will allow you to selectively maintain
local media storage on various devices.  As a shared library, the
one issue with that is that only one device can access it at a time.
The configuration that I use, is I have a pair of two 2 TB drives
connected to my Airport Extreme base station.  Each contains my
complete iTunes folder (one is backup).  All my Macs open that library
when openning iTunes.  As I said, downside is I can't connect with two
different devices, but in my case that is not an issue.
When I want media for the road on my MBP, I have a smaller iTunes folder
on that that I copy the desired files to.  With that guy, I just hold down the
option key when openning iTunes and select the desired library.
Also, do I keep my iphone/ipad apps on my MacBook for syncing, or should they live on the MacMini? Never done this before so any advice helpful.
You should use only one computer for syncing, as the chosen computer
will have the back up files for the device (contacts, messages, etc.).
Using iTunes sharing, the apps and such will be on the computer
used for syncing.  In the scenario I use, they are stored on my network
drives and the backup is stored on my "syncing" computer.

  • Is it possible to fit a mac mini into the "pod" of a flat panel mac?

i have a  beloved (because of the form factor) flat panel imac. woiuld like to try retrofitting a mac mini so as to
take advantage of osx beyond 10.4.  does anyone know if this is physically possible, and will the mini graphics
hardware work with the imac display?

Another question, in the attempt to supply a display where the
iMac G4 panel presently is located, with power and signals,
not available does arise when a Mini is used.
The iMacG4 LCD has almost no circuitry outside domed base.
A Mini would have nothing to drive from its video display ports.
And it will not supply power to a display, both of these go missing
once the iMac G4 electronics are removed from Base half-dome,
& add another level of complexity to conversion. Likely, one may
need to utilize a complete LCD display panel entirely, somehow.
{Years ago, there had been a third-party repair kit for the chrome
arm, with replacement friction spacers, a tool, and misc parts.
It went missing, too early for most long-term owners. As one of
my iMac G4s arrived in the box with bent arm, I sought to get a
kit, but ended up hassling with an 'authorized' whackjob reseller
in Anchorage who did not want to help me because I didn't buy
the iMac G4 from them. This led to a year's worth of headache
    excessive travel to attempt repairs, & no more new Macs. ufn.}
The topic has been mishmashed around awhile. Had looked into
the matter as a curiosity; I have three iMac G4 17" 1.25 models.
    Along with a last-model G4 Mini 1.5GHz: In several ways it's best.
    Nothing like a project, though.

I have an original Mac mini that is not used any more. It still works great but decided to upgrade it to a newer version for my son to use.
Is there a way to utilize the Mac mini and make it into a time machine type back up drive?

booted into _*Target Disk Mode*_ and connected directly to any other Mac on your local network, TM should be able to back up to the Mini's drive. see this: http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/2.html.

  • Is it possible to install a HDD from a 2012 Mac Mini into my 2010 MBP?

I'm thinking of upgrading the hard drive in my 2010 Macbook Pro and I had the idea that instead of this I could upgrade the hard drive in my late 2012 Mac Mini and use the original Mac Mini drive in my MBP.
Is this doable? Would there be any issues with compatibility/specs etc.?

Others are putting dual 3.4s 6 core and hanging on and doing better in some cases with their own GTX 7xx and above, some PCIE SSD 1TB same a Apple Samsung unit. Cost, your apps, and there are still unknowns going with a 6,1 nMP.
Gradual so no $6,000 outlay and then having to sell the 2012 5,1 and upgrade
No idea what those 5690 cpu pairs go for currently but check around thread on MacRumors and BestBuy and what revision or stepping (may not even matter).

  • Making my Mac Mini into a PC to test websites

    Hi,
I have been Mac user all my computer-using life and haven't go a clue about the PC environment. I need to get my Mac Mini to think its a PC just so I can test the websites I am building.
How do I get my Mac to work as a PC so I can test the websites I am designing?
Which is better Parallels or Bootcamp?
Is it a fairly painless operation?
Do I need to but IE6/7 or is it shipped with the Windows OS?
Any advice would be very welcome - Thank you!
    Little Miss Mac User
MacMini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Web testing/ Windows / Parallels & Boot Camp / PC

For web compatibility testing, BootCamp is the wrong choice, because you'd have to reboot (twice!) every time you switch between editing and testing.
Parallels + Windows is a decent option, and very easy to do, but it's a fair pile of cash.
A less expensive but slightly messier option is Crossover Mac. http://codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
And if you're willing to spend some time but no money, you could do Darwine + IE6 instead. http://macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2006060201470077

  • HD from Mac Mini into MacBook; do I need to reformat the drive?

Hello. We have a 2010 White MacBook 7,1 that had been experiencing a few problems (slow, quirky behavior, poor battery performance and unable to repair permissions) and the HD seemed to fail when we attempted to upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks so I replaced the HD with a brand new drive out of a Mac Mini.
My question is do I need to reformat the HD for the MacBook since it originally came with the Mini? It starts up and runs fine but I'm not sure if there may be any unexpected issues down the road like incorrect firmware updates or something? Has anyone else already done this before?
Thank you for any useful input.

No, you don't. You just need to check a few settings, such as the Energy Saver ones, and that any commercial software on the drive runs.

  • Making a Mac mini into a server

I cureently have an iMac.  I would like to connect the Mac mini to my iMac. Then use the Mac mini as a server.  Is there a step by step non-IT person guide for doing this?

Then you just follow the setup instructions for FileMaker Server. In my experience they're pretty clear.

  • Skype not work on new (3 week old) mac mini but does work on new macbookpro

I have language lessons online via skype - just voice not video. I have a new mac mini (2.26ghz, 160gb, 2gb). When I have my lessons I have terrible problems with audio quality. All "crackly" so much so that my teacher can hardly hear me. However, if i use my new macbookpro with same ethernet connection and same headphones everything works perfectly??? I have replicated this problem on the same mac mini and same macbook pro at a friends house who is also on the same cable company. Can anyone explain why skype is perfect on the mbpro but useless on the mini??? Or better still offer a solution? Many thanks for any help. Richard

weird...it works perfectly if i reboot mac mini into windows (bootcamp). no problems with buzzing at all! repeatable experiment. it doesn't sound possible that its a software issue with snow leopard???? any software/sound experts who could comment?
so, my headset on snow leopard skype sounds awful at the other end due to buzzing sound. but if i reboot into windows this vanishes??? and does not return. tested without stretching any cables etc. also used skype test function to listen to the buzzing sound myself. its there with os x but not with windows 7??? help please!!

  • Can I connect a 2006 Mac Mini 1.8 Ghz Intel to a Sony KDL40V5100 TV?  How?

I have searched through endless discussions here with posts complaining about problems getting a Mac Mini to properly display on Sony and other brands of flat screen LCD and Plasma HDTVs in full 1080p resolution by hooking it up to the TV using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter cord hooked from the Mac Mini into an HDMI input on the TV. I want to buy a Sony KDL40V5100 40 inch LCD HDTV and get this connector to hook it into one of the TV's HDMI inputs, but have read so many posts here saying it won't work right. And in responses to these posts, I have read all the suggestions to fix these problems, ranging from using a third-party program to set the Mac to a specific resolution lower than the 1920 x 1080 (1080p) resolution to using both a mini-DVI to DVI connector and a DVI to HDMI to hook it into, which then could then be input into the TV, to changing display preferences on the Mac to dual or mirrored display status to setting the TV to a different input. I am very worried that if I buy this expensive TV, it will not display my Mac Mini properly on the Sony LCD TV. Is it GUARANTEED to work or not, and if yes, what settings need to be configured on which device(s)? I have also read posts here with complaints that the latest OS X "Leopard" update ruined the display's proper functioning status on the flat screen for many users. Can someone please help me get to the bottom of all this before I purchase the TV?

A 2006 mini doesn't use the mini-DVI port, so any issues with the mini-DVI adapter should be ignored. A DVI to HDMI cable will provide the correct signal just fine.
I see that your signature says you are running 10.4.11 (Tiger), so unless you've upgraded or plan to upgrade to 10.5 (Leopard) you need not consider the potential issue of resolutions not offered correctly in Leopard.
If you are concerned about the possible problems of the desktop displaying correctly, you should take your mini and the DVI to HDMI cable (which you will need to have in any case) to a store where the TV is being sold and ask to plug it in and test it. Any store worth shopping in will agree for a purchase that substantial. You can then see if overscan is handled correctly so the desktop will fit properly on the screen.
