Mac mini issues, 4mem/1/40000000: 1c044014

Hi all,
I have been having issues with my Mini, its crashing, really snow and overall is being very naughty.
I was told to run a hardware test after i could do a repair job. This is one of the few error codes that kept coming up. 4mem/1/40000000: 1c044014
I know the code "4m3m" is a Memory issue but i cant find out what the rest of the code means.
Can you help?
Cheers,
Jase

Hi chaps, thanks for your help. So i tried to run AHT but it kept stopping after a few seconds. I managed to pick up some more RAM which is now in the machine and i am running another AHT as the machine would not run properly. Results of the AHT came back clean so i decided to start the machine up in DU, i ran VerifyDisc and it came back with ''Keys out of order, The volume Mac HD needs to be repaired and Error: Filesystem failed. So i then tried to run RepairDisc and these issues came up "Keys out of order, The voloume Mac HD could not be repaired & Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
So now i am lost and dont know what to do.....
Any ideas anyone?

  • Problem with a Dell Monitor - stopped working yesterday, just a flashing orange light. Monitor or Mac Mini issue?

I've been using an old Dell monitor with my Mac Mini ever since I got it, however yesterday evening my monitor stopped working - however I'm not sure whether the issue is with the monitor or the Mac Mini. It just doesn't seem to respond when I try to bring the Mac Mini out of sleep. I can hear that the Mini is responding to the keyboard - I hear the right noise for pressing return on the password box without entering anything.
I've made sure all the cables are plugged in properly (power & connection to the Mini), but all I'm getting is a flashing orange light on the monitor.
I don't have anything else to test the monitor on, nor do I have access to another monitor to plug into the Mac Mini - I only have an old iBook G4, so don't have the right adaptors to plug the VGA from the monitor into that.
So before I run out and buy a new monitor, what is the best way to determine where the problem lies.

Hi, I've actually never had any issues waking this monitor from sleep, this is the first time that it has been unresponsive and I've had it for years - probably over 10! (E151FP) so probably overdue for replacement.
To be honest I'd rather not just switch the Mini off unless it's a last resort given that other than the lack of a picture everything else seems to be working ok - still hearing all the normal noises of Skype, Mail and TimeMachine etc.

  • TV as monitor for mac mini issue

I need some help. I've been using a 42" 1080p TV as a monitor for my Mac mini via HDMI input for years with no issue. I had set the display to 720p and never had a problem.
Tonight I bought a new 60" 1080p TV and proceeded to plug everything as normal via HDMI, turned everything on and it was working fine. I am 99% sure that when I went to display preferences it said 720p still, so I decided to try 1080p as the TV is so much larger. The TV screen went black and there was no way to revert back to 720p since I couldn't see the settings box anymore.
The TV screen is fine when using xbox and blu ray player and i've tried all the factory resets for the TV. I've hooked the old TV back up and have played around with the display preference settings and then reconnecting to the new TV @ each one but no luck. I'm not sure at this point if it's a Mac issue or not but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
    Any help is much appreciated
    Thanks
    Erin

The old TV works no problem -- at 420p, 720p, 1080i & 1080p. I've got overscan turned off now, but didn't when I first attached the new TV. Again, it's fine on the old TV with overscan on or off. No matter what I do I get this black screen of death but sound on the new TV. So that's why I'm thinking it might be the TV causing the problem. But thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has encountered the same problem.
BTW it's a Sharp Aqous 60" TV. The old TV is off-brand, Dynex.

  • Brand new 2010 Mac Mini issues....

I took delivery of my 2010 Mini this morning.
After initial set up I first noticed the clarity on the text is very poor compared to the AppleTV it has replaced? I also find the WiFi streaming of audio and SD video to be terrible, where the ATV which it has replaced was perfect, even when streaming HD!
Lastly, I find it very slow, having the "spinning disc" show up whenever I try and do something? Not what you want from a fresh machine which only has Firefox installed on it so far?
Has anyone else experienced these issues and can I rectify them? I feel like sending it back, the performance is awful for the cost of the machine.

    Thanks for that link.
May be coincidence, but having tried the Mini upstairs where another AppleTv was sited it crept up to 54Mbps.
Should've tried it downstairs again where it was only getting 11Mbps to see if that was still the case, but decided to check the connector - you can see the gold/brass coloured connector through the grill - using a blunt probe I touched it and it wasn't loose, but I applied some gentle downward pressure didn't seem to move, but now getting 54Mbps in the original site. Perhaps coincidence, maybe as I've disconnected the other wireless device, who knows.
Will see how it goes for a few days but if performance falls off may take it in to be looked at.

  • Mac mini issue

My Mac mini got the flashing folder with a question mark. I just reconnected the power cord, and it started up normally. But the next day same problem. I don't know if the problem is with the cord or the system. I tried to repair the OS X but the repair disk is greyed out.

    Hi, The Blue Apple.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.

  • 10.7.5 causes kernel panics!!! Mac Mini issue?

After updating my Mac Mini (late-2009, 2.53GHz core 2 duo, 4GB ram, no mods) to Lion 10.7.5, the message "You need to restart your computer. Shut down by holding the power button down, then restart" appears when shutting down, spawning a kernel panic. These have been submitted to Apple through the normal method. There are no other symptoms, but irrespective of this my Mac does not shut down correctly under 10.7.5 and kernal panics should not be happening. I've reverted to 10.7.4 now which solves the problem.
Other users have reported this, such as 'stuckis' on a MacMini 2011, 2,5 Core i5 - this user even downloaded the update a second time and the problem reappeared.
Given it happens on different model Mac Minis, I think the update is the source of the problem (at least on Mini models). Have any other users seen this issue??
Apple's track record isn't great at the moment - I had to uninstall Mountain Lion because it was causing major kernel panics when attempting to shut down my Mac (probably caused by the use of a Samsung TV as a monitor - if I was cynical I'd say it was deliberate by Apple over their ongoing mobile phone battles), so upgrading to ML at the moment isn't a solution.

Yep, read most of those when trying to sort a similar problem when I upgraded to Mountain Lion. I managed to narrow down the problem a bit, but given it only happened after the upgrade (and nothing else had changed) it was almost certainly something in Mountain Lion that caused it. As it turns out it looks like it was related to using a Samsung TV as a monitor or possibly nvidia drivers under ML. I've love to know if these issues have been resolved, because I thought ML was excellent.
That said, given ML is already up to version .3 it seems to me there must have been a number of issues with it, and maybe these have sneaked down into Lion now? As for Lion on my Mac, downgrading to 10.7.4 fixes the problem, no more KPs, so as far as I can see it has to be OS related.
The impression I get is that recent OS releases from Apple have not been tested very well, particularly with slightly older models such as mine. I've always thought the one of the good things about Apple was the longevity of their machines (I was using a perfectly good 2001 G4 Powermac before I got my Mac Mini in 2009!!).
Rant over! I'll read the tutorial you've kindly provided the link for and perhaps try updating again...

  • Time capsule (2T) and Mac Mini issue

I bought Time Capsule (2T model) recently and replaced existing router and probelm beginning.
I have several Window based PC and Apple TV, Ipod and one Mac Mini and HP D7460 printer.
Window based PCs are working fine, haven't tested Apple TV but Ipod is working fine too.
However, my Mac Mini is loosing connection with Time Capsule intermittently. Can't use internet due to the issue. I installed iStumbler and looks there are two notes I can find from time capsule and one has 2457 frequency but the other one has -1 frequency. But my Mac Mini's airport can't search any wireless router. If you reboot and wait around 30 min, it suddenly found my Time Capsule and star working but stop working after 30 or 40 min later sometimes, 5-10 min later....
Any recommendation? DON"T understand why Mac Mini has issue while Windows PC are working properly...

What wireless mode are you using? G, G/N, N
Is the Mac mini N or G and is the PC N or G?

  • Mac mini issues with hp 4650

I've had a new mac mini for a few days but when printing to my hp 4650 any greyscale images are printing washed out and lacking definition and sometimes printing with a blueish look to them. When I hook my old g4 back up it prints fine with the same file. Any ideas?

Hi, & welcome to the forums!
Tough one here, but it must be a munged plist in my eyes.
When you type in the "Other" one, have you tried a Dollar Sign in front of the Password?
    Is the Password exactly 5 or 13 ASCII, 10 or 26 HEX$?

  • Mac Mini issues

So I bought an old Mac mini G4 1.25, 1 gig ram.
It came preloaded with 10.5 leopard but all that would show up when hooking up to my tv was the infamous flashing folder and question mark on the screen. The only discs I received were for 10.4 tiger which I was able to install.
Initially it would not let me install tiger, it would have a big question red exclamation mark saying it was unmountable. After holding down shift upon restart, I was able to install tiger 10.4
My question is: Where did 10.5 leopard go?
On another note, when I plug in the rca jack from the headphone adapter on the mini to my tv, I cant get a sound but I can hear if headphones are plugged in or if nothing is plugged in the headphone jack.
Other than that, I am happy with my purchase.
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to  Discussions!
The flashing folder means that either the information on the hard drive was corrupted to the point that the firmware on the mini couldn't read it, or the hard drive had in fact been wiped clean before you got the mini. That vintage of mini never came with Leopard (10.5) installed from the factory, the Tiger (10.4) disc you have is probably the original it came with. The previous owner may have installed Leopard at some point, but either they erased it or it had become corrupted before you got it from them.
The port for audio on the back of your mini is a 3.5 mm stereo TRS jack (in proper technical terms). If your TV is using RCA connections, you should have an adapter cable that goes from the 3.5 mm stereo TRS jack to left and right (white and red, respectively) RCA connections. If the TV also uses the 3.5 mm stereo TRS connection, you should have a 'double male' cable of that type. Be sure it's stereo by checking if the straight part of the connector behind the beveled tip has 2 sections, separated by a black band. If there's no black band on the straight section, it's a mono connector and won't deliver audio correctly.

  • Help with Mac Mini issue

    Hi guys,
I recently installed a SSD into my 2012 mini, which I brought new about a week ago. Everything went well and it was a direct hard drive swap so the motherboard was not removed. I am currently using a Cool master Quick fire mechanical keyboard and a Corsair M60 mouse, which were left over from my PC (which I do plan to replace)
Anyway, I had an issue with both this keyboard and mouse when the mini went to sleep. All lights on them turned off and neither would wake the system. I had to unplug them and plug them back in for them to work.
Furthermore, when I powered the system off and back on to do further testing, the mac just stayed on a grey boot screen and the lights and the keyboard and mouse lights were flashing randomly. Then system never booted and I turned it back off and on again, and same thing.
It was only then when I removed the ac adapter from the mini for 10 seconds, and plugged it back in that everything started to work as normal.
What could be causing this? I was extremely careful installing the SSD and everything runs amazing when I am actually using OS X.

When you removed the AC power it was the same as a SMC reset which can fix  many issues.  Also try to do a PRAM reset which is another fix that often works.  Does not sound like an SSD issue (I also have a 2012 with SSD I installed and all OK).  No experience using your keyboard and mouse as I use Apple Magic Mouse and Logitech keyboard.

  • Mac mini issue:lost connectivity with the wireless keyboard

I lost connectivity with the wireless keyboard and I can't unlock the lock screen. What can i do?

Sometimes powering the keyboard off by holding in the power button on the right end of the battery box and then after ten of so seconds powering up again will reestablish the connection. Other than that forcing a reboot using the power switch on the mini should  restore the connection unless thereis something else going on.
If this is a recurring problem try replacing the batteries with fresh ones. If this keyboard has been paired with another bluetooth device such as an iPad or another Mac, unpair it from the other device.

  • Mac Mini Internet Connection Issues

In recent weeks the success of my Mac Mini being able to access the Internet and my home network is abissmal.
I have intermittant forced access at best, I have power cycled my router and modem from Time Warner. I have tested both WIFI and Eithernet to no avail
When I use the diagnostics it shows it is not connected, then it will repair connect and when I switch a page in my browser or go to use Skype, BOOM lost connection.  This is occuring on both WI FI and Ethernet.
I have read in MAC Forums and on Google that other's have had similar issue.
    Info I can add
    LinkSys Wireless G router
Also have a WII console an iPhone and Android phone and MacBookPro sharing this connection.
It is nly in the last few weeks it has presented any troubles. I have done a spyware/malware virus check bought MacKeeper cleaned up all files. Short fo taking it in for service (I have only had it since early December)
Is in a router DNS issue, a MAC Mini Issue, a network issue. I am thinking I should have saved more cash and got an iMac.
    Thanks

Have you tried changing channels on your Router?
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

  • Very slow internet (Wifi) on my mac mini late 2012

Hey, I have recently experienced very slow internet (Wifi) on my mac mini late 2012. On other mac's and computers the internet is working well. I cannot change the channel of the router (what I found out to be the only solution here), because I live in dormitory. Should I try to restore OS? What would be other possibilities? Is it OS or mac mini issue?

If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.

  • How reliable is the Mac Mini or iMac (2009) models?

Greetings to you all. I have a question directed at anyone who owns the 2009 Mac Mini or has recently bought a Mac Mini either last year 2009 or this year, 2010. My Acer Aspire L-100 finally died on 29th Dec 2009 as a result of USB failure caused by a windows auto update. Fed up with Microsoft, I am thinking about switching over to Mac and thought the Mac Mini or iMac would be a good start. I am however troubled by the numerous complaints I am reading on the Apple website posts regarding the 2009 model Mac Mini loosing sound after a month or two of use and some posts claim that the sound on their Mac Mini is distorted, crackling and some had broken systems out of the box. How many of you have had similar sound issues with the Mac Mini? Also, is it better to get the iMac 21.5 inch instead? Has anyone had hardware issues with the Mac Mini and or the 21.5 inch iMac in less than 2-6 months of use? If so please let me know so that I can make up my mind, whether to purchase Mac computer platform or just build my own customized machine. What I need to know is, how reliable or durable is the mac mini computer, especially the 2009 model and how does the mac mini, especially with its small size, handle temperatures? Does the mac mini overheat? Please help. All information will be highly appreciated.

Remember, Apple offers a 1 year hardware warranty and 90 days free software support, both of which can be extended to three years from date of computer's purchase. This means if you appear to have what is a technical issue with your machine off the bat, Apple will cover the lemon issue, if it is obvious it is not an issue you the user could have caused. Mind you, if issues appear much later during the ownership, it gets harder to justify that it is a manufacturer issue. As long as you don't upgrade the internal hardware, the hardware test CD that comes with the machine will be able to tell if there is a manufacturer issue with the machine. All bets are off, if you change the RAM, or hard drive beyond the specs of the machine. Apple publishes the specs of the machine on http://support.apple.com/
Your machine shouldn't overheat unless you excede the published specs.
The advantage of the Mac is that malware and viruses are practically a nonissue, and everything you usually could desire is already built-in to the machine. So while you could build your own machine, you can't really get the integrated hardware and software as you do with the Mac.
Yes, the 27" iMac has been hit hard with issues, more around the display than anything else. I for one, if were forced to get an iMac, would get the 21.5".
I've not seen any specific Mac Mini issues really come to the fore.
If sound is lost on a Mac Mini, it usually is due to the fact that minijack connectors themselves are fragile to begin with, and endusers tend to jiggle them a lot in the connector, causing the connectivity to get lost. If you are careful to follow these directions about cables*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/frayguide.html
You should avoid most of those issues. Thankfully there are 5 USB ports on Mac Minis, and USB audio is frequently better than the built-in audio, except when adding your own 5.1 speaker system with mini-Toslink connector speakers.
Don't forget the number of posters to this board, don't even amount to 1 tenth of a percent of all purchasers of iMacs, Mac Minis, or MacBooks any one quarter. Thus the remark you said was "rude" is not. It is factual. You are basing your information on what amounts to less odds of happening than a space program disaster with NASA. Mostly people who have problems are posting, and those who don't rarely do post.
I recently had a hard drive die after the three year warranty was spent, but hard drives I've seen die on Acers and Dells on the first day of ownership too, so that's nothing new. Backing up your data is the best way to deal with data loss*:

  • Mac Mini video card drivers Win 7 64 bit sp1

I was running OSX 10.6.4 and dual booting with Vista 64 bit when Vista crashed.  I went out and purchased Win 7 64 bit SP1 OEM version.  I used bootcamp to install this sucesfully but whatever I seem to try I cannot find/install the correct driver for the graphics card in Win 7.  It still defaults to Standard VGA Graphics Adapter 1280 x 1024.
I moved from the U.S to Thailand but forgot to bring my bootcamp disc  (Otherwise I might not even be writing this post).  I purchased a copy of Snow Lepoard 10.6.3 which has bootcamp 3.1 on it but still not the correct video card drivers.  I have also upgraded bootcamp to 3.2 and 3.3 and tried all the Win 7 updaates but to no avail.  I have tried to install manually from bootcamp on the DVD, I have read a few forums with the same issue but it tends to be a MacBook Pro and not a Mac Mini issue.  I have also instaleld Nvidia 285.38 and 285.62 drivers and both of these give me a black screen, so I know these are not the correct drivers.
I purchased my Mac Mini in Nov of 2010 and its a model MC270LL/A.  If I look in OSX I can see my video card is the
    Nvidia Geforce 320 M
    Vendor - NVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID 0x08a4
    Revision ID 0x00a2
    Rom Revision 3546.
I am not sure why this has to be so difficult but it is!  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks so much.

    There's a complicated driver issue.
    I'm also a user of Mac mini(2010, server) with windows7 x64.
    My experience is:
The only newest nvidia driver for daily using without trouble is 267.76.
If you want to use 27x~ 285.62/285.79,
your primary monitor must be connected to Mac mini with miniDisplayPort-VGA adapter,
I got the same black screen with applying HDMI port as primary.
If you upgrade to 290.36/295.51(the latest one),
you can prevent black screen with HDMI port, sounds good, right?
But as long as you update to any of the newest two drivers,
you will suffer BSOD(Blue Screen of Death, abnormally reboot, error code:0x116) during checking Windows index
or just watching HD movies, that anything may cause GPU malfunction.
    Referece thread:http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=215256
I still searching the solution because the HDMI 1.4a 3D supporting of my projector was begun from 285.62.
I always got BSOD when I want to enjoy Blu-ray 3D films.
