Mac Mini iTunes auto launch

I have a Mac Mini connected to my Sony Bravia thru an HDMI cable. When I tell the TV to change to the HDMI port that the Mac Mini is plugged into, iTunes launchs and starts playing. I've tried everything to tell iTunes not to do anything. I think the TV is somehow sending a "play" command thru the HDMI to the Mac when the port becomes active because, if there is a paused video open in Quicktime, it will begin playing on its own when the port becomes active. If there is no movie open, then iTunes lauches and starts playing. Does anyone know of a way to stop this from happening?

This is totally crazy.
I reinstalled, which went well. I put the mini back in the entertainment center and rebooted. I switched to the TV and back and iTunes launched automatically. I checked Login Items and iTunesHelper was there. I removed it, logged out, logged in, switched to the TV, switched back and iTunes launced again
I checked LaunchAgents and LaunchDeamons in both  /Library and /System/Library and LaunchAgnets in ~/Library and there are no iTunes related files. I checked in both Finder and terminal just to be sure.
I opened Users & Groups, and there was no iTunesHelper in the Login Items. I opened Activiy monitor and there was no iTunesHelper process running. While screen sharing from my laptop, I switched the HDMI ports again and iTunes again launched, but what's worse, I watched iTunesHelper just appeared in my Login Items, even with the padlock closed!!!
Its like its possessed or something
I checked every setting in iTunes and didn't find anything that would seem to cause this.
I very much appreciate your help and suggestions. At least this is giving me a reason to dig around in Mavericks which I haven't done much of yet.

Hi,how can I synchronise Window 7 itune library and Mac mini itune library?
Meaning copy wholemedia library to the other itune(window itune/mac mini itune)
    Thanks!

Thanks for your advice, but I did AB audition between Home sharing my other laptop itune and playing direct thru my mac mini (Direct playing thru mac mini SQ is better than playing Home sharing thru wifi) that's why I want to copy my full itune library from my other laptop into mac mini.
    Blame it on my ears..

  • ITunes auto launches every 3-5 minutes (on PC)

iTunes auto launches every 3-5 minutes on my PC.  I have an iPad and iPhone but both are over a year old and it's just started doing this.  I haven't upgraded recently, I have no CD in the drive, I don't have gaming software, I haven't downloaded anything from iTunes Store (ever), and I haven't loaded any new software recently.  I also do not have iTunes selected as my default player (I prefer Windows Media Player on my PC) and I've changed every setting on my computer that I can think of.  This is driving me nuts.

    Hi rogelnaval!
I've found an article that may help you troubleshoot the power issues you are seeing with your iPad. The article is for iPhone troubleshooting, but will apply for your iPad, and can be found here:

Specifically, the section you will want to look for is the second category on the page, and it is labelled "Power/Battery." Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • Mac mini hdmi auto detect stereo or surround

    Hi,
I have just switched from an windows 7 media center to using a mac mini for my media center.
In my setup I have connected the mini to my Denon surround receiver with an HDMI cable (like I had with my windows media center).
However I have a small problem when playing music. With my windows media center (using iTunes for windows) my receiver could automatically detect that the music was in stereo and only use the front right/left speaker for the sound - and when I turned on Plex to play a movie the sound was automatically surround and I didnt have to change any settings on my receiver.
With the mac however both music and movies is sent to the receiver in 7.1 surround? Can't I get the mac to auto detect if the source is stereo or surround? So when I play music from iTunes only the front speakers should be used?
I know I can just turn my remote - open it and change the speaker setting on my receiver but I fear this is much to complicated for my girlfriend so she will demand that I turn back to windows and I really dont want to do that?
    Kind Regards,
    Søren Jensen

HDMI audio and Minis can be quirky at times.
Have you changed the order of power-up?
I found in my system, I need to power up the TV,
then the receiver, then boot the Mini.
Also, if using some other source and then switching
back to the Mini, I end up in stereo only and have to
reboot the Mini to get surround pass tthrough capability
    back.
HDMI audio in general is at times quirky as I have seen
similar comments around and about for all types of
    equipment.

  • Setting Up Mac Mini / iTunes Server Help

I have a new MacMini that I wanted to just leave on and use it as my iTunes media server for my various iDevices and ATV's.  I have an external Thunderbolt G-Drive attached to the MacMini with my movies, music, home videos and photos on it.  The MacMini will only be used for the purpose of streaming my media and nothing else.  The MacMini drive has nothing on it but whatever it came with the initial OS.  If anybody could provide me with any tips to keep this running as smooth and as fast as possible I would appreciate it.
This is what I have done so far.
I have a Cyberpower Smart App Sinewave UPS system connected to the MacMini.  This allowed me to set up in preferences an automatic smooth shut down of the MacMini in case of a power failure.  My router is also connected to the UPS system as well as the external drive.  I do have a small monitor attached to the MacMini that I can turn on to the proper HDMI input to work on the MacMini, so it is not set up as a headless system.
Tha MacMini is dircectly conected to my router via ethernet so the WiFi portion of the mini is not being used.
Do I need to turn of the wifi via preferences manually or does the ethernet hook up take care of that an I don't need to do that?
Is there a way to get iTunes to automatically launch after the MacMini reboots?
How can I handle updates automatically to keep the MacMini up to date with minimum if any interference from me?
I know I can also schedule an automatic reboot at certan intervals but not sure where to set this up nor if its needed?
Should I set up the MacMini to Never Sleep Mode or let it put the hard drive to sleep?
I know some people have had issues with the hard drive not waking from sleep mode hence iTunes will not work properly.  This has been via firewire hook ups and I am not sure if that would happen via thunderbolt or not.  If there is anything else I can do via hardware or software that I am missing let me know.
    Thanks

The MacBook Pro is sometimes at work, or otherwise "off" in the house. I don't like having to go and turn it on, just to access my itunes library.
That's one downside of AppleTV2 - cheap, small and low power usage but lack of onboard storage means you need a computer on for streaming, which is less than ideal when you have a laptop.
So I've been thinking... maybe a mac mini is the solution? I could set it up near the TV, leave it idle and access media when I need it.
That would certainly work. I have both the current Mac Mini with HDMI and an AppleTV hooked up to the TV - I either use wireless keyboard/mouse or AirMouse on my iPad to control the Mini. You don't necessarily need the Mini connected to the TV but I do in order to do things AppleTV can't.
Right now all of my itunes is on my MacBook Pro. If I wanted to copy over the library is this possible?
    Several ways to do it.
I don't want to do a complete restore on my mac mini of the macbook pro from time machine, since there is a lot of stuff that just isn't necessary to transfer.
Not advisable to restore a MacBook Pro to a Mini in any case. You should stick to the same hardware for restoring.
So is there someway to either sync the libraries, or copy things? Basically, I want to keep both libraries up to date, likely I'd download things on the MBP, but would then want to access this media on the mac mini... what can I do about this?
Easiest thing is to use Home Sharing - sign in to Home Sharing in itunes on both computers - this will allow you to copy material from one library to another, you can even configurre it to do so automatically if you want to. (Depending on your home network speeds this may be initially slower than say simply copying all the iTunes media to an external drive and then copying this into the Mini library, but once most stuff is copied, additional transfers will be incremental and relatively quicker.)

  • Questions about mac mini iTunes server, streaming to macbook pro, ipads, etc.

I'm thinking about getting a mac mini to work with my NAS as a iTunes server. I have a bunch of questions about this. I will have two iPhones, a few iPads, and a laptop that will be accessing the files. I have iTunes match. This is basically to keep an always on computer for hosting the music/movies. My questions are as follows . . .
#1 Are there any good, comprehensive guides to show you how to do this?
#2 Can the movies be accessed when not at home on the shared network?
#3 Can the iPads or the macbook pro download the shared movies to be stored locally?
#4 Back to #3, how will it work on my macbook pro with listening to music (I have iTunes match)? Say i go to library and I break out my macbook pro and I don't have internet. What happens if I download music while at home onto my macbook pro to listen to it when I go to the library? Will i start a new library on my macbook pro? How will that mesh with the home server when I come back.
#5 Is there a way to mirror files or folders? So something that I have on my macbook pro will also mirror on the home server.
Thanks for your help on this. I'll post any follow up questions.

    1. I want to replace the Optical drive with a 2TB SATA. can I use this 2.5 inch?
I do not know if it is the same model number, but this one will work in your MBP:

    2. I want to replace the HD with a 128GB SSD 840. When I replace these drives, will my OS still be in tact? I have never done this job before.
No. You will have to format the drives in Disk Utility>Erase to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then install the OSX by using the original install disks.
3.) I want to replace the ram sticks to max capacity. This is 2 2GB sticks, Correct?
No.  An early 17" 2008 MBP will accept 6GB RAM with the following specifications:  200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.  The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    4.) Most difficult...
I want to extend the monitor wirelessly to a projector. I thought about using Apple TV and Airplay. However, support for airplay is for MacBooks 2011 and newer. I thought of using a PS3 and the media server, but I think this brings on a format compatibility issue. (my library is so large I could not afford to convert all my movies to MP4.) So, how would you recommend I put my extended monitor with VLC player onto a projector?
Could I possibly connect the MBP to a Mac Mini as an extension? would this work natively? I would rather use a VGA cord than F with 3rd party app BS.
    Cannot help you there.
5..) I want to Bypass iTunes this time around. I would prefer to use Finder and VLC to manage all of my music. I mostly play all my music on shuffle, so, could I create a playlist on VLC with all of my music and play it randomly? (im sure this is possible but i'd like to organize all my plans with confirmation.)
You are not obligated to use iTunes.
6.) Can i upgrade the keyboard to backlit? i've read that this is possible.
All MBPs have back lighted keyboards.  Your either needs a NVRAM reset or a repair.
    Ciao.

  • 5th Gen Ipod Touch not recognised 2 windows pcs and my mac mini, Itune up to date, tried DFU and recovery, returned from apple inspection as working, still no joy, anyone elese had this problem, any ideas?

Since we had the ipod touch since xmas we have had slight problems with charging and connecting to itunes, i sent back to Apple to repair/inspect, they have returned it back as working fine, tried 2 different windows pcs, my mac mini and cannot get the ipod to connect, Windows tries installing drivers only to say it has failed, uninstall try again, go into recovery mode and dfu, nothing seems to work. I have 2 ipads an iphone 4s which all connect faultlessly. Any ideas?

Have you tried another cable? Some iPods were shipped with cable that either did no work initially or shortly failed.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Bring the cable too.

You could simply create a cron task such as those that perform the nightly, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks.
You could search here, CNet Downloads or MacUpdate, for an existing utility that enables you to perform an action based on a system event such as, Do Something When.

  • ITunes auto launches on startup (no iPod/Phone connected)

For the last couple of weeks (perhaps longer) I've noticed iTunes launches itself whenever I restart my MacBook Pro.
There is no iPhone connected at the time.
Everything is up to date in software.
I've removed iTunes helper from my login items.
    I'm at a loss.
Your assistance in resolving this matter would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers!
    Darcy

I just tried restarting again, this time with iTunes last closed on my music tab rather than the store tab, where I realized it had been parked for some time.
iTunes still auto launched on startup, though after a longer delay than usual.
AND after I quit iTunes, it auto launched itself again. That was a first.
    For what it's worth.

  • Mac Mini iTunes viewing on iPad

i have a large iTunes library in my Mac Mini.  If I buy an iPad, will I be able to view my albums, artwork, libraries from the network where my Mini has the library(an external drive)?  Kinda wanna be able to sit and browse thru my collection i.e. album art ect on an iPad.  Not much value on my iPhone since its small screen.  Thanks

You will be able to view and play your Mac's iTunes library via home sharing - both the iPad and Mac will need to be connected to the same network and iTunes will need to be open on your Mac.

  • Mac Mini, iTunes 7.4.2, Mac OS X 10.4.10 -- firewall rules are broken

Last night I updated from 7.4.1 to 7.4.2. Nothing else changed on my Mac Mini (Intel Core 2 DUO) running Mac OS X 10.4.10.
I immediately found that none of my other computers nor my Apple TV could reach my shared music library, which is hosted by the Mac Mini.
I normally run with the firewall enabled and in fact the box is checked to allow iTunes music sharing. HOWEVER, since upgrading to iTunes 7.4.2, the firewall rule is somehow no longer sufficient.
I had to turn off the firewall in order for my other computers and the Apple TV to be able to reach my shared library on my Mac Mini.
Effectively, something has changed w.r.t. sharing in iTunes 7.4.2, such that the default firewall rules in Mac OS X 10.4.2 are no longer allowing clients to connect to the iTunes shared libraries.

The 1G iPod should still work OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger).  Since the Mac still sees the iPod as an externally mounted drive, we'll take that as a good sign.

  • Windows to mac mini itunes transfer

I have a windows xp with all my itunes library that I want to transfer over to my new mac mini, how do I go about it?
Also have a new Sony PSP, how do I transfer library to the PSP from either the mac or my windows laptop?

    Jack,
do you have an iPod? If so go to www.apple.com/switch/howto/ipod.html
You can use your iPod as a hard drive to transfer your files (including iTunes library) across from your PC to your mac.
I did the exact same operation a few days ago. The only thing that I had difficulty with was reformatting the iPod to work with the mac once the transfer is complete. An iPod software updater downloaded from this website did the trick and everything works brilliantly now.
If you do not have an iPod you could copy your files to a CD or DVD and that should work. I would suggest it would be best to drag the files from my music rather than copying them straight from iTunes and once this is done deauthorizing your old PC in iTunes.
Sorry, cant help with the PSP.

  • 2nd Gen Mac Mini, iTunes Streaming issues

Feeling flushed I've replaced my ATV1, 1st gen Time Capsule and Mac Mini and moved them down to the retirement home we're working on.
One of the reasons I replaced the Mac Mini was everytime I booted up I had to run diagnostics to get the airport running effeiciently . However, in the other place still using the TC as the wireless router it appeared to working much better. Then I added the old ATV1. Again for a week things were great.
Then...... while streaming music to the ATV1 and an Airport Express upstairs I noticed it started coughing and cutting out. I'd have to reconnect the speakers (ATV1 in the same room & AE upstairs) and restart the track. After experimenting what seems to be happening is:
When playing iTunes to the ATV1 and AE Speakers if I trying and download something large it cuts out, and if open Airport Utility or iStumbler (checking the power on each device for wireless power) it coughs badly recovering intermitantly. I can internet to my hearts content without any problems and up load massive documents to iDisk without interupting the music????
Apart from the AE ('n') they are all 'g' devices. iStumbler is showing relatively low signal strength for TC (41% ish about 20 feet away) and the AE (19% immediately upstairs above the Mini). As we're on the beach the only two other neighbours signals are showing and are really weak.... so the 'noise' is almost nothing.
In a wireless network siutation does the Mini talk directly to the speakers or does it have to go through the TC?? Is the Mini card dying or is it the TC? Caould I use another AE ('n') plugged into the Mini as the wirelss card?
Or is it the ATV1 dragging the signal down?
sigh... it was all going so well......

    Thanks that's really helpful.
Sorry; aren't the old Mini, TC and ATV1 all g and the new AX n? Same principle though. I thought the AX was allegedly b/g/n compatible?
Should have know the AX might be the prob. I had an issue with one here. It was too near the ATV1 and was interfering with its visibility. When I seperated them further (distance) the both became visible and signals improved. The trouble is because of the house construction I need a boost upstairs. The AX works great for internet extension.
Did I read somewhere someone reset an AX for g only?
    Cheers.
