MAC MINI just went Mute today.
MAC MINI just went to mute, have been connected to a TV for 2 years via HDMI with no issues. I can switch to internal/Headphones with no issue. I have plugged and unplugged the headphone jack multiple times and reset the PRAM 3 times still no fix. Reset and recovered from time machine still nothing. Is there something loose inside the computer? Please help my 3 yr old love to watch internet TV for his kids shows and now no volume,
Thank you for the help. Yes the HDMI is there but no control. I swapped the cable around and checked the tv. Funny thing We used external speakers this morning for a movie and afterwards i unplugged them from the headphone jack and the sound came thru the tv again but the sound icon is still gray but I can control the output to the tv? Not sure what that means but it is working now. Maybe the headphone jack was stuck.

Mac Mini just went Intel...

Yep, I've been saying so...I wonder how many will go for the Core Solo when the Core Duo is, what, only $300 more. And what about the iPod cases or the boom box? We'll see when the store opens again...

Half the screen on my 2010 27" mac just went grey today. I bought the computer six weeks ago. Is this a common problem with the monitor?
I think there's some provision for a home visit if you have AppleCare. Don't know about the standard warranty. Maybe you can arrange to ship it? Give them a call on Tuesday. Bummer.

Mac Mini just boots to grey screen - help!
My trusted mac mini a1176 (intel 1.66GHz) has always worked fine but now it just has a grey screen when it starts. There is no chime, and if I leave it long enough a picture of a file with a ? in it appears.
The events leading up to this could have an effect, I am not sure. The original hard drive had a mac and a PC division. I took this drive out 6 months ago and fitted a larger one. This larger one had a carbon copy of the mac part of the original drive made on it. I did not put the PC division on it. All worked fine since. Today I wanted to boot up the PC partition on the original drive so I put the old drive in a USB enclosure, plugged it in and then in settings chose to boot from the PC part of this drive. This is the last thing useful the mini did. It just went to grey screen on restart. So then unplugged the external drive, still no boot. Since then I have tried.
Pressing differen buttons on restart
Putting leopard instal disk in drive ( this is he os I am using)
Disassemble mini and put he original disk back in
SMC reset
Take out extra ram
Disconnected every other peripheral.
I use a apple wired keyboard
A dell mouse (I have a Bluetooth apple one)
Any suggested next steps would be warmly appreciated? Would the logic board just go like that? It seams a bit of a coincidence!
Thanks and sorry for he spelling, this is from my iPhone. Here is YouTube video of what the screen is now doing.

Updated mac mini with latest patch today
I just updated my mac mini with the latest patch 9/22/2012. After the update the system went into reboot then starts
up again then fails and power-down. The screen changed a couple of time from dim to bright. The rolling gear is visible
during the screen changing to brightnes. Then the whole thing just power-down. Is this normal for a mac
update?Hi, not normal at all.
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS. -
Hi, I upgraded my 2010 mac mini server to lion today.
The upgrade went fine, but on the last reboot, all I am getting is the dreaded prohibited sign. So I tried to use the Snow Leopard install disk to get to disk utility, but the dvd will not load.
The DVD & the superdrive are OK as I have checked them on my other Mac mini server of the same vintage.
Has anyone come across this before?Try to refer these resources:

I have been reading a few threads about iPod mini's that went dead. That's because I have the same problem with mine and clearly it doesn't seem to be that exceptional. I have my mini about 14 months now which means it's out of warranty. I'm not using it very frequently, only when I'm travelling and once in a while in the gym. Last time I've used it was about 3 weeks ago and everything was normal. I wanted to charge it again for my next trip to the US this week but it just isn't working anymore, apparently it just went dead. My local Apple store said they can't do anything about it and since it's out of warranty, they cannot replace it, which I can understand. They offered me a new mini for a lower price, but I think it's still too much for a replacement only 2 months after warranty. I also don't understand why they didn't tell me about the battery replacement plan, about which I just read on the site. I requested to buy a new nano for a lower price in exchange of the mini, but they refused.
Anyway, it seems there's nothing I can do except complaining here and share this with the rest of you. Obviously, I'm very disappointed that I lost my mini just a few days before my trip, not to mention the money spent on an item that went useless too quickly. But also, this was my very first Apple product, which I liked so much and made me excited about the rest of Apple's stuff. I was planning to buy an iBook, I was looking forward to the next generation iPod (maybe after nano?).
The thing is, I didn't damage it at all, it actually still looks new, and nothing happened with it. It feels very unfair because I cannot put the blame on anyone. However, if this is how Apple products work, I don't think I'll spend another penny on them.JL4, thanks for mentioning the possibility of resetting my iPod. That's what I did and my mini is working again! I know it makes me look like a complete moron after complaining about it, but just consider: I went to the biggest Apple Centre around and they said it was dead themselves!
And Carl Worlf: I was not in a real huff. I was only very disappointed because it's so unfair that it just stopped working, seemingly without any reason. I always treat my stuff with good care. My mini was perfectly working at one time, the next it didn't respond to anything anymore. Well except then the famous reset method.
Finally, I think it's fair to blame Apple support for a) not mentioning (their own!) battery replacement program (I knew because I found it on the web when returning from the Apple Centre), and b) they apparantly don't know how to reset an iPod. -
Mac Mini Wifi went from really bad to impossibly slow with Mavericks
Is there anything I can do? I really need to use WiFi given my location. My Lenovo Laptop gets about 15 MBPS with speedtest.net but my Mac Mini in the exact same location barely gets 1 MBPS and that's after timing out about 3 times. This is completely unusable! HELP!
Note, I am not using anything bluetooth and I have a wireless USB mouse and a cabled USB keyboard. I even turned bluetooth off. THe USB mouse and keyboard I regularly use with my Lenovo and they don't cause it problems.
I use this as a development machine (XCode) for iOS development and do a tiny bit of sound recording with Garage Band, otherwise it gets very little use. I recently upgraded it to Mavericks.
Are there any diagnostics I can use or anything I can do to improve my WiFi?
TIAPlease answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them; in that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. Any change?
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or your computer's firmware. Any change?
If possible, connect to your router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
Are any other devices on the network, and if so, are they the same?
If you can connect to more than one network, are they all the same?
Are all network applications affected, or only some? If only some, which ones?
Is networking always the same, or is the problem intermittent?
Disconnect all other devices from the network. Any change?
Boot in safe mode and test. Any difference?
Boot into Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Any difference?
If possible, turn off Bluetooth and disconnect any USB 3 devices. Any difference? -

New Mac Mini just ordered - Ram upgrade questions
A quick Google troll shows that there may be a firmware upgrade that will indeed allow the mac mini to support 8 GB of ram.
Having sucessfully put Ram in other minis - i'm not too worried about the install, but I have a few questions:
1. Anyone tried this successfully.
2. Early reports of some of the trials of this showed performance problems, likely related to the firmware limitations on the machine.
3. Ram manufacturer?
I'm not too inclined to do this with my new machine unless I can get some real world feedback. The information that I have seen is that it requires both the firmware update and Snow Leopard. Newer Technology tried 8 GB of RAM after the firmware update but while running Leopard and reported terrible performance, worse than with 4 GB. They tried it again after Snow Leopard was released and report that there are not any issues. So they now sell an 8 GB upgrade kit.
