Hi,
I have a late 2012 MAC MINI that i bought around 3 months ago. Usually my Mac mini is left to sleep/hibernate during the night instead of being shut down. Today morning when i woke up the mini, i saw that a kernel panic had occured.
Below is my Kernel Panic Log

Does this mean i have to get my Logic Board changed due to malfunction, or is there some other problem? Please assist...
Thanks in advance
No. In fact I wouldn't even worry about it unless this becomes a continuous problem. No software on Earth is perfect. There are, however, some tips you might want to consider:
Some of the backtrace appears that you're running VMWare, and quite honestly I don't know what types of bugs might be present in it.
If you're using a third party drive with third party add-ons and drivers, they can sometimes be problematic.
I know Seagate had software that was problematic with Mountain Lion and they're supposedly putting out updates to fix the problems (might already be done for all I know).
A single crash isn't a big deal. If it's crashing periodically, the it's a problem.

Mac mini crashes often during sleep
I have a mac mini about 6 months old. Everything was great for a while but for the past few months it's been crashing every 1-2 days during sleep (I go to wake it up and it says it restarted after a problem). I have a bunch of crash reports, I'll paste the most recent below...
When it first started I ran apple hardware test which found bad RAM. This was replaced by company but crashes continue (apple hardware test finds nothing wrong now).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think I had some trouble with my router in the past but have switched to using a TimeCapsule. I will try unplugging from my wired router and go with just wifi next.
If that doesn't work will try the suggestion for a new monitor cable.
After that I'll try replacing RAM with factory RAM again.
...and if that doesn't work Maverics should be out by then and I can do a complete OS reinstall.

Mac Mini Kernel Panic on startup
Hi everyone.
I am having a particularly annoying problem with a Mac Mini 4,1 (2010).
My problem is, in fact, almost identical to a similar discussion from last December:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2698431?threadID=2698431
I have followed an identical protocol. I couldn't boot the Mac Mini using either an OSX install DVD or USB stick, but I was able to mount the Mac Mini's internal hard drive as a firewire drive on my laptop.
Using this method I was able to zero out the hard drive and install OSX 10.6. My MBP would then boot just fine from the Mini's HDD using firewire. But when trying to start the Mini itself I encounter a kernel panic every time. Similarly I encounter a KP when I try and boot from an install DVD or USB, or try and boot into safe mode, verbose mode, single user mode and the hardware diagnostic mode.
I have tried with different RAM, I have reset the PRAM and I have resent the SMC.
Verbose mode crashes on a line referencing the AppleHDADriver, which I presume is an audio driver.
The only option I can see remaining is to take out various components, such as the airport card etc until I have something that starts up.
I would like to try and restore the firmware, but Apple apparently haven't released a firmware restoration CD for the Mac Mini 4,1...which is odd.
Anyway, any help would be much appreciated!
ThanksHi, I have a mac mini server (mid-2010 aluminium version). Recently I want to erase the HD and reinstall the osx server because I do like the way the system was set up. However, I cannot boot up the mac mini using the original install DVD. The computer just display the apple logo, followed by the spinning wheel with grey screen and nothing happens. I cannot get into the os installaion. I have tried the DVD using external FireWire and USB DVD writer, and also tried putting the DVD into my MacBook and do remote install osx but still have the same problem.
I suspect that the DVD that come with the computer may not be the correct build version for the aluminium mac mini because it has newer hardware components. I wonder how many people will have problem using the original install DVD ? -

This is Rodney Watson. tch id(sc28f02f0b). Please contact me at********** I have no access to tsps. I have no contact information that successfully gets me feedback and I very much would love to get this machine back to its owner within two weeks if possible. I have a file of crash reports and other potentially useful data regarding this repair.
The initial issue with the system was that after a short time on a browser, the system would kernel panic, then the system would restart. I tried the quick fixes, resets, (updates are current for the user's volume) I tried a startup volume with a known good operating system, (OS X 10.8.3). I used known good ram, power supply, logic board, hard drive w fresh install of OS X 10.8.3. I still get the same behavior from thi sunit. It either boots to the desktop and crashes and restarts only to kernel panic and restart again, or it never gets to the desktop and repeatedly crashes/ restarts.
<Personal Information Edited by Host>Hmmm, which exact Mini is it, a 2010 Mini should take 16 GB of RAM... but not just any RAM...

Trying to decipher the system log seems to indicate a problem with my USB hub, the iMac doesn't seem to be able to communicate with it. This has happened before - usually there are no applications open and the computer is in sleep mode. The problem then occurs when I try to wake it; usually a light blinks on the Iogear hub for a short time and then goes out - when I get a panic, three lights stay on continuously, the fans are whirring and absolutely nothing happens, the screen remains black. There also is no pulsating light on the front bezel of the iMac. The only solution is a forced shutdown. Once I restarted, all seemed well again. BTW, this hub (hub/card reader combo) does not have any lights on when everything is working as it should.
I also just remembered that occasionally, my keyboard or mouse (both plugged into the hub) will become unresponsive; once I unplug them and plug back in, they're fine. I've already tried a different hub (Macally) and the very same thing happened. I don't know if these could be related?Hi, Barbara.
The line
Unresolved kernel trap(cpu 0): 0x400 - Inst access
in your panic log indicates an 0x400 (Instruction Access) panic. An 0x400 (Instruction access) panic occurs when the processor cannot access the next instruction to be executed.
Potential causes include RAM problems, hard disk corruption, and programming errors. "Programming errors" in this case can include invalid instructions and violations of protected memory, however it is often difficult to differentiate a programming error from a RAM or hard disk problem since the latter two issues can cause a valid instruction to appear invalid. Likewise, this opens the door to the potential for processor errors, i.e. defective processor or other problems with the logic board.
Kernel loadable modules in the backtrace are flagging
com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily(1.4.4)@0x52c000
This indicates an issue with "...SCSI, USB (Storage), FireWire SBP-2 and ATAPI devices."as described here.
It could very likely be the USB hub/card-reader combo you cited, or it could be a deeper problem with your Mac. Does the problem occur when you have media in the card reader of the USB hub/card-reader combo?
See my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics.
My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, following the instruction in the order specified, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein.
Good luck!

Mac Mini kernel panic pulled HD randomly unmounts in external enclosure
OK, I have a mac mini A1176 that I'd been through all of the tests and fixes on. It was having the ACPI kernel panic, I ran disk utility first aid, crashed, ran alsoft diskwarrior, crashed, ran memtest, hung, etc. I heard airport cards could be a problem so I disconnected, then removed, the card, to no avail. it got worse, to the point where I couldn't even startup from a DVD. It would mount in Target Disk Mode but I couldn't copy files from the drive.
So I got a SATA external case, with a simple slide and plug USB setup, and pulled the drive to try and save the memory. drive came out fine, plugged in fine, powered up when I plugged it into my MBP, and mounted. then five seconds later, it unmounted, with a Device Removed Incorrectly or whatever error. Then seconds later, it mounted again, and then did the same unmount trick. just continuously.
I have no idea where to go from here. I'm about ready to just toss the whole thing.Clearly you have a bad hard drive. Time to replace it.

Well. Its the Mac OS X Tiger.
Apple sent me the DVD to reinstall it a few weeks ago to get the Kernel Panic off and I'm not sure of how to go through getting this off? I've looked it up on many forums on different sites and it hasn't really helped me. So, how do I go about doing this?

Power Mac G5 Kernel Panics After Waking From Sleep
My G5 has been kernel panicking intermittently the last few weeks. I brought it in to the Apple Store and they ran Apple System Diagnostics (ASD) on it, but found no errors. However, they were able to get it to kernel panic after running it on a full processor load for a couple hours.
After getting the machine back, it has been pretty stable, but it will kernel panic within a minute of waking it up from sleep. Therefore, I can't put the machine to sleep anymore. Once in awhile, it also kernel panics during the boot process.
A few times, including today, the memory also shows up incorrectly in the System Profiler. Right now, my G5 says only 3 GB of RAM are installed when there are actually 4 GB. The Profiler shows six 512 MB chips when there are actually four 512 MB chips and two 1 GB chips in the machine.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this and how I might be able to fix it?
Thanks. Thanks for the suggestion. I disconnected the MyBook drive from the Firewire 800 port, then put the G5 to sleep again. When I woke it from sleep, it ran almost five minutes, then kernel panicked.
So I did a test with half the RAM and had the same problem. Then I tested the other half of the RAM and the same kernel panics happened. I tried different DIMM slots and it kernel panicked no matter what I tried. The last few times, it just froze without displaying the kernel panic screen.
The kernel panics started happening when I installed the August security update. So I decided to install Leopard on a secondary internal drive. The installation went smoothly and I ran some programs for a new minutes with no external drive attached. Then I put the computer to sleep. When I woke it up about an hour later, the cursor was gone and the screen was frozen.
So I am pretty confused. The computer runs fine as long as I don't put it to sleep. But if I wake it up from sleep, it is a ticking time bomb before it crashes. Is there anything else I can try? -
Kernel Panic during Installation
Recently, Tiger (in my macbook) has been experiencing crazy problems. Programs refuse to start, quit suddenly, the OS X get kernel panics, and other issues. So I went to the this Apple message board and ask. I tried various solutions; they all work, BUT the problems would return and new ones arise. The main solution was reparing disk and its permissions. It worked at first but troubles persist. So then I decided to reinstall Tiger through archive and install. It almost finished but once it was setting up iwork, everything stopped for an hour until I manually shut the computer down. I attempted another try, same problem. So I moved onto erase and install. Everything worked out well until I came to the setup info screen. Things were going fine until BAM, kernel panic. I shut down the mac again and it loads os x. Now i'm afraid things will repeat itself. How often would one get a kernel panic during installation (in this case info setup)? I just want everything normal.
Mac mini, MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1GB, 1.25GB Ram (respectively)How often
would one get a kernel panic during installation (in
this case info setup)?
Um...never? Kernel Panics are never something you should encounter on any sort of regular basis. Sounds like it could be a bad hardware component, most likely the RAM. Has it been upgraded since you got it?
Anyway, I'd take it to an Apple Store or get on the line with AppleCare asap. -
Mac Mini keeps hanging during boot
My ~3 year old Mac Mini keeps freezing during booting with the error message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button...". This happens every time. Booting in safe mode works.
This happened with Mac OS X Tiger but keeps happening even after I have completely reformatted that hard disk and reinstalled Leopard from scratch. There are no external devices connected to the computer besides the monitor and a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
After reading some discussion forums I have already tried starting into Open Bootware and running "reset-nvram" and "reset-all" but to no avail.Welcome to Apple Discussions!
What you are suffering is a Kernel Panic, and given you have reformatted your drive and reinstalled MacOS, it would tend to suggest the issue is hardware related - most common culprit being RAM.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227 explains what kernel panics are, and http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html and http://www.index-site.com/kernelpanic.html may give some assistance in working through the problem to determine the cause.
The one good thing is that your system appears sufficiently stable to allow you to boot to the Leopard installer and complete a full install. This makes it less likely there is a fundamental issue with the most expensive component of the system, the logic board. -
I cannot get the new mac mini to wake from sleep and trigger the displays - this is the second mac mini I have had and both have had the same issues. It worked before on my macbook extremely well...
Using 2 displays, connected via HDMI and thunderbolt
Been on to support a number of times now - is anyone experiencing the same issues?BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps? -
Why do I get a kernel panic during large downloads?
Since I got my new MacBook Pro, it's been doing kernel panics during large file downloads.
Getting rid of Chrome seemed to help but today the panics are back. I just started up in Safe Boot mode and the downloads (two files, approx. 500 and 300 MB, respectively) completed downloading without incident.
While I'm checking out my startup items, has anyone else seen this problem? I didn't have this problem with my Core 2 Duo.I took a look at the dump and saw a reference to an Elmedia Player kext. I remembered that in another thread someone mentioned this giving some trouble, I uninstalled it. I'll keep an eye on it to see if the problem comes back.

can any one help me out here, tomorrow I am going to boot it into target disk mode and install from a G5 onto the powerbooks HD doing a CLEAN install and then I am going to try booting it from a DVD and doing another CLEAN intstall just cause I dont trust a firewire install for some reason. I would like to avoid all this mess if possible. ANY HELP PLEASE, either respond or email me tend0 at mac dot com. thankshaha oh man thanks for startin slow with me, but we are passed that tested RAM, start up items, prefs, tried makin a new user account, as I stated before I can not boot from a DVD/CD.. that was one of the problems so I cant run anything that involves tageting the main HDD while its mounted. I have also repaired perms, ran fsck, tried booting up DiskWarrior(didnt boot from the CD), etc. if any one knows this perticular kernel panic string and can point out what the conflict is I can resolve it but other than that I have ran the run of the mill check to see if everything is in order procedure again and again.

Frequent kernel panic during boot up
Hi,
I am having frequent kernel panic during system bootup. It takes atleast 3-5 attempts for the machine to boot-up without a panic. It is not consistent. I have disabled dropbox and removed firefox and chrome which I suspected was causing the problem.
Any idea what could be causing the panic? Once the system boots up, it some times stays up for a long time before a panic happens again.
The error report is below. Let me know what other details are required to trouble shoot this issue.

So I decided to upgrade to Mountain Lion. I was able to download it through App Store and start the installation. Everything went through fine and finally when it had to restart, it took a long time and stopped at the grey screen showing the prohibitory sign.
After waiting for quite a long time decided to hard restart the machine. Same issue. So used the option keys at bootup and went into disk utility.
Verify disk permission threw up some errors. Then Verify Disk started throwing up errors and stopped in between and suggested to run Repair Disk.
When I ran the Repair Disk it threw up an error mid way and said:
Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restor your backed-up files.
I ran Repair Disk again and it went through fine. No issues this time. Ran fix permission option as well. That also went through fine. Then restarted the system.
No use - It still shows the prohibitory sign and progress circle....just stays there....
Any advice on what next?
Thanks,
Sudhir -
Leopard Disk made my Mac Pro Kernel Panic
I have used original OSX 10.5 Leopard Disk to repair my mac pro HD, but it made my Mac Pro Kernel Panic. It was strange that the Mac Pro install disk one can success enter install mode!
Although I have conducted RESET PRAM procedure, the Leopard disk still made the mac Kernel Panic.I would like to ask if you upgraded your graphics card and if so, that it might require a later OS version than the DVD.
Two, I never use the DVD to repair permissions (Apple warns users to not use the DVD to do so now with Leopard); or to repair disk drives.
You are better off setting up a bootable hard drive for emergencies; a bootable clone of your working system; and, TimeMachine, so you have more than just one backup set or method.
Kernel panics are caused by hardware otherwise, most often due to 3rd party devices and even cables, including Firewire or USB.
