Mac Mini loses DNS when app store is launched

Hi everyone,
I have a 2.3 GHz Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).
Of late, I have noticed a baffling problem. I seem to lose my DNS whenever I try to launch the Appstore app on my Mac Mini. Most of the time, when I try to run the Appstore, it will try to connect unsuccessfully for a long time before saying "Internet connection is required to connect to the app store". From that point onwards, I cannot browse any webpages with Safari or Firefox nor am I able to ping any domain names.
However, if I try to ping an IP address, it still comes up, which suggests to me that my internet connectivity is still up but the DNS has just failed to work. My DNS settings point to my ISP's 2 DNS servers as well as to Google's (8.8.8.8).
Sometimes it comes back up if I stop the mDNSResponder process and then start it up again.
However this means that accessing the Appstore is very problematic for me and I don't know how to remedy this! I have fairly rudimentary knowledge about networking so please bear with me.
The few times I have actually succeeded in loading the Appstore, most of the graphics are missing.
I am using a Netgear router and Linksys ADSL broadband modem.

My Mac Mini crashes whenever I try to access anything but music from the iMusic store. I can play song previews fine. However, once I try to access video or podcasts, iMusic will crash. iMusic then continues to crash as soon as the music store is connected. If I remove my iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library.xml files it reverts to the original symptoms.

As soon as I get finished indexing the java keywords from the latest developer doc download, I will remove Flip4Mac and let the message board know what happens.

No change after flip4mac was removed, iMusic still crashing. After further observation it was noticed that all I had to do was to click on the subject headings on the far left (trailers/podcasts/etc) to get iMusic to crash.

Updating apps on Mac mini, they do, but App store doesn't think so

I recently update iWork apps to the most recent version, but I still find the previous one on my doc.
New versions are on Launchpad and both work well and that's not a problem for me.
App store stil asks to me to update those apps although I do it yet.
Similar problem for iMovies, iPhoto: on my doc I have new working versions, but on Launchpad icons are dark, waiting for update.
The same for OSX Mavericks...
How can I solve this problem?

Undock (remove from dock) the old icons. Then open the new ones and dock those.

My mac mini loses connection with my receiver after turning off the receiver then back on

My Mac Mini loses connection with my Onkyo receiver NR-609 after turning off the receiver then back on. The only way to reistablish the connection is to unplug then replug the HDMI cable to the Mac Mini. There's no effect if I unplug then replug the HDMI to the receiver. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I've searched a lot but haven't found much of anything so if this is covered elsewhere I would greatly appreciate a link.

Hi and thanks. I don't know about the audio prefs. When it happens I am not able to see or hear anything from the computer until I un/re-plug the HDMI to the Mini. I'm not sure it's changing to something else because there's nothing else connected for it to change to. I could see that perhaps the audio will change to the Mac Mini's internal speaker.
I found out last night that if, after I lose the signal, I use my ipad to play a video on the Mac Mini using the Remote app and home sharing the signal gets righted and I can see/hear the computer again. It's quite an inconvenient fix though and I wish and hope someone here can help me.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

Simple:
File -> Export to get your photos out of the iPhoto Library. In the Export dialogue you can set the kind to Original and you'll get back exactly what you put in.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Once exported, you can then trash the iPhoto Library - just drag it from the Pictures Folder to the trash and empty it.
After that, if you're entirely neurotic about it, just put the iPhoto app in the trash and empty it.

Install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
Then restart your Mac.
Then click your Apple icon top left in your screen then click App Store.

Numbers says to update but when App store opens under mtn lion says not updates needed.

Numbers, Pages and Keynote all say I need an update when I open but none of them will activate the download. Now that mtn lion is installed it immediately open the store and checks. So Im thinking is Apple wanting us to repurchase to get this update so its store savvy? If not how do I update?

In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have tihat needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window. This is a screenshot of my updates earlier today when I had the iWork update under Software Update & some Mac App Store-purchased apps that also needed updating.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

You can probably change the ID in the "iTunes and App stores" settings on the iPad....click on the wrong account ID , select sign out, then log in with your own ID, I have not done this but I think it works.....

As you can see from all the replies to your question if you are not clear in describing the situation it is very difficult to try and help you.
So first how did you originally purchase Aperture? App Store, DVD or Unlocked Trial version.
If you purchased it from the App store if you log into the App Store with the same Apple ID you used to purchase Aperture then you will be able to install it on other systems besides the one you originally installed it on. Even though the button says Purchase you will not be charged again as lolongnd as this is the same Apple ID you used the first time.
If you installed from DVD or Trail unlock post back.

Open System Preferences - Universal Access and check whether 'Mouse Keys' are activated.
If so, then deactivate them. They could be the cause of your problem.

How can I install iPhoto 9 and use iCloud Photostreaming, when App Store says it is already installed? I have two Apple IDs (family computer) which may be the root of the confusion. The one I use for iTunes purchasing and use solely on my work iMac has already upgraded successfully.

To use Photo Stream and iCloud you will need iPhoto '11 ( version 9.3.x) not iPhoto '09. The version numbers are rather confusing.

Do you see it in the AppStore as installed, when you sign in with your AppleID, but you cannot update it?
Backup your computer and you iPhoto libraries.
Then delete iPhoto from the Applications folder, or from whereever it is installed; you do not need to empty the trash. This way you will be able to put iPhoto back.
Sign into the App Store with your apple ID and reinstall instead of update.
Does that work?
If not, put iPhoto back and try with the other AppleID.
