Mac Mini Microphone

I have a new Mac Mini. I have plugged in external speakers and they work just fine. I bought a Logitech microphone (a model with a stand that sits on the desk) and I cannot get input audio to work. I have it plugged into the jack next to the speaker jack in the back. I tried a different device and still no results. What could I be doing wrong? I did go into system prefs and selected input, no movement on the input slider and it still shows built in audio (as it does for the speakers).
Thanks

that input is a line level input: You either need an USB mic, an additional mic amplifier or such an animal http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic

  • Mac Mini Microphone Error

A few weeks ago, I bought a new mac mini. I recently tried to use a microphone that I used on a previous computer, but the computer isn't reading it.
    Any ideas?

Get a usb microphone. Just about any one will work.
The Mini expects an amplified mic signal thru the microphone port -- and most mics designed for PCs don't provide this.
But using a usb mic gets around this.
Or you can get a converter for your old mic like the iMic:

  • Mac mini microphone port

So I tried to use a labtec mic on my mac mini and it does not work. Then I look thru this forum and all I can find is I have to buy a USB mic.So what is the point of Apple putting the mic port on the mini if one can only use a USB mic???? Is it just for pro's
If a mic can be used on the rear port can any one please tell me what type/brand I have to buy. Cos I have got USB cables coming out the ying yang.

You would probably be better off buying a USB mic if you have to buy one anyways, since the sound is switched from analog to digital outside of the computer, and therefore avoids all the interference inside the case.
You will get much better sound quality out of a USB mic vs similarly priced analog.

  • I have a mac mini with a web cam/microphone and would like to be able to facetime with my families iPhones 4S/5 using wi-fi email address.  I can't call the iPhones from the Mac Mini with Mountain Lion OS.  What is wrong?

I am trying to include a Mac Mini with a webcam/microphone to call several family iPhones 4S/5 usisng email addresses vice phone numbers so that we can communicate from outside the US via iPhone to the US (Mac Mini) via wi-fi and email addresses.  We are using the same email address for the Mac Mini as for Itunes and made new email addresses for each of the iPhones.  I cannot receive calls from the iPhones but can call the iPhones from the Mac Mini.  what needs to be corrected?
    Thanks.

  • Mac Mini and Microphone

I've got an Early 2006 Mac Mini Core Duo
I used to not have any problems using a mic plugged into the onboard audio-in jack. All of a sudden it stopped working. I tried another mic. Still doesn't work.
I tried both mics with the Griffin USB iMic I used to use with my g4 Mac Mini. Both mics work.
I'm thinking the audio-in jack onboard was busted so I took it into the Apple Store and asked on of their "Genius's" about it. He didn't seem to know but eventually decided to give me the explanation that since these mics weren't "powered" the signal wasn't strong enough and the USB device draws power from the USB bus.
SO, what I want to know is - Does anyone else use a non-powered mic with their mac mini?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Ok,
I guess I can see where 'line level' and self powered thing comes into play. It's just odd because it seems a stretch to say that toslink is self powered or line level, and that works just fine. Then there's the powered headphone jacks. But the manual does actually state "The audio in port does not provide power to a connected device, so you must use self-
powered devices. " (p51). In retrospect I guess it explains the lack of a section on 'recording using the built in microphone' and the whole part about the mini not having one (I guess). I wonder if these 4 firewire iSights will be good for something later .
Personally, I detest anything that could cause a ground loop or worse. My advice to you is to stick w/ a USB adapter if you find one where you like the sound. Do you really want more batteries or another plug in the wall?
This is about the only thing I've heard of that even minutely decreases my enthusiasm for the audio capabilities of the mini. I've got the toslinks working both ways, usb audio out, radioshark recording in, and miglia for tv working w/o a hitch. Just blows me away how capable these things really are. I guess throwing the iSight in might be overkill, but besides the issue you have...Wow. The thing is impressive.
I'm still having issues w/ the mics working then failing. Guess you have a thick carpet, rub ballons on your head, wear some seriously furry clothes, or have the kid n play hair, because I just don't see how you could have been working up enough static to power those things .
Then again...those are non-conductive mics...not just something w/ some exposed metal..and you didn't move the machine right?
    Guess it works as expected

  • Microphone and RAM for 2005 model Mac MINI??

My sister has a Mac MINE from Dec 2005:
    Mac mini 1.42 512x1/ 80/
    S/N: YM54701** <Edited by Host>
Since she is not at all computer-minded (but loves her MINI)- and I want to surprise her with a few upgrades when I visit her next week, what can I order (via the Apple Website?) or purchase to upgrade here MINI?
    1. She wants to use SKYPE and has neither a microphone nor a videocamera for SKYPE. What is a good videocamera (with built-in Mic) that I can get? I have an iSight-- but I use it still so don't want to part with that!
    2. Is it easy to upgrade her RAM to at least 1 gb? If so how and where to buy the RAM etc. She lives near Chattanooga, TN and I'll be at an APPLE STORE in Chicago on 24 June---
    3. And not just for her MINI: What about FireWire adapter cables to be able to:
    A. Take a FireWire 400 peripheral like an iSight and plug it into FW800 on a computer that only has FW800 (like a new MB13)?
    B. Take a FW800 devise (like a Hard Drive) and plug it into a Mac with just a FW400 (like my MacBook from 2006)?
    Thanks for any replies here!

    Hello, Stephen Schulte2
    1. I don't have a mini, but use this separate mic with good results:
      http://store.apple.com/us/product/T6831LL/A
If you want a cable-free combined mic/webcam, Apple sells this BlueTooth model:
      http://store.apple.com/us/product/TV520VC/A
For Skype known compatibly, you can search Skype's Store for Mac-compatible webcams:
http://shop.skype.com/webcams/ - most seem not to have integrated microphones
      http://shop.skype.com/webcams/logitech-quickcam-communicate-deluxe.html has mic
    2. "Easy" is a subjective term. This magazine shows how and says "Not Hard, But Not Easy".
      http://www.macworld.com/article/42237/2005/01/macminiinside.html
You can even see video of it being done on this site:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1UmuWdNSrk
Whether you want to try it or have a technician do it is your choice.
If you do it yourself, Crucial RAM has a good reputation with many Mac users:
      http://www.crucial.com/store/listmodel.aspx?pl=Mac%20mini&mfgr=Apple&cat=RAM
In my Macs, I usually use OWC RAM (and other expansion products.) The products I have bought from them are reliable and low-priced, and OWC offers as much support as you need:
      http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/mac-mini/
Whatever you decide to do, I strongly suggest that any RAM you buy has a lifetime warranty.
    3. A. You can use this cable that Apple sells:
      http://store.apple.com/us/product/TP320LL/A
If you like, you can buy it locally or directly from Belkin:
      http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=164598
    3. B. That cable is bi-directional, so it does not matter which end is FW 400 or 800.
However, an adapter that connects 6pin FW400 to 9pin FW800 may be more convenient. You have a choice of many, but here are a couple of examples from which you can choose:

  • External microphone not working on mac mini mid 2012

How many plugs does it have?

  • What microphones are compatible with a mac mini

what microphones work on mac mini?

Almost all USB mics work. For the mic-only input you need an amplified (linein) mic which are amplified.

  • Mac mini with Microsoft headphones/microphone??

I just want to know if anyone knows of a way I can get the Microsoft LifeChat headset microphone to work on a PPC Mac mini. I need to use the microphone and dont really want to have to go buy another microphone to use with the mac. I cant seem to track down the usb drivers anywhere, can anyone help?

Might just been something funny going on with the OS not
    detecting it.
More likely that the process of installing the update either replaced a MacOS component that had malfunctioned, reset a property list (plist) file that was incorrect, or the 'optimizing system' process at the end of the install reset a faulty prebinding.

  • I am considering purchasing the Mac mini for home studio audio production using Adobe Audition and a USB microphone.  Will the base mini model run these programs?

I am considering purchasing the Mac mini for home studio audio production using Adobe Audition and a USB microphone.  Will the base mini model run these programs?

The base mini has 4GB and a 5400 RPM hard drive. It is slow to start up and slow to launch large application such as Word (and I'd assume Adobe Audition) due to the slow drive. I've not used a new 4GB model, just the 8GB model, and the 8GB model (except for the slow drive) handles everything I've thrown at it, including running Photoshop, Word, Safari, and Mail at the same time but there is sometimes a delay switching between programs as the swapfile is updated. Overall I was not happy with the 5400 RPM drive (perhaps because I have MBA and iMac with Fusion drive) so I eventually upgraded it with an SSD. Now the mini is truly a warrior.

  • Does Mac Mini have a microphone port?

I am thinking of purchasing a Mac Mini and I was looking at pictures and it doesn't look like it has a microphone port. I was curious if this is true?
    Thanks,

Instead of a plain "no," I'll suggest you look at the Griffin iMic. Many users, even before the Mac mini came along, have found it works very well.

  • What are the alternatives of adding a microphone to mac mini? Which port should I use?

I am so used to macbook for built in microphone that I don't even know how to add a microphone to a mac mini, there's no microphone input port is it? If that's the case how should I use a microphone in mac mini? Thanks.

Look again at the specs, the port is actually a line level input
and not all microphones have line level outputs.  From 2012
    spec sheet:
    Audio
    Audio line in minijack (digital/analog)

  • USB microphone with Mac mini - can it work?

I recently bought a cheap USB camera with built-in mic, and a USB headphone/microphone interface. Neither of these microphones work with my shiny new Mac mini (10.7.2). The headphone USB interface works fine, and it even includes a volume and mute - very cool indeed (Arvel HAMU02BK if you want to look it up). In the Sound Preference pane, it shows up as an input, but the meter doesn't show any response. I plug the same mic and adaptor into a G4 PowerBook (10.5.8) and it works. The camera (Buffalo BSW13K08HBK) also shows up as a mic in the Sound Preference pane, but the meter fails to respond (shows about a 60% continuous input signal, but using it with Skype test, doesn't record anything.

Camera itself seems to work nicely, though, and there seems to be enough power off the hub to make things work. Is this a bug? If I want to plug a mic into the Mac itself, can I use any of the "pink" 3-pole 3.5mm computer mics?

    Followup - I'm getting:
kernel: 0        0 AppleUSBCDC: start - initDevice failed
on the Console every time one of these beasts gets connected. What to do about this?

  • Mac mini not working with logitech h130 headset's microphone

    Hi,
I have a mac mini (late 2014) model that appears to not work with my headset's microphone, my headset is a logitech h130 that works perfectly with all other devices that I have (which are not apple), please fix! ASAP

Assuming that the headset has two 3.5 mm plugs you need one of these to combine the headphone and jack into one 3.5 mm plug
