Sorry, stuck with what you have in the near term. There
is rumor of folks working on video upgrades via the
Thunderbolt port but that is sometime off.

I am pretty sure you can do overclocking when booted
into windows, but also need to get additional fan control
software and you will evetually be temperature limited.
The new Sandy Bridge processors supposedly have
a failsafe to turn things down if temps exceeded for
to long, but best to keep an eye on things.
On the Mac side, there is no means to overclock
the CPU.
BTW, the CPU you have you are stuck with as it is soldered to
the motherboard.

Mac Mini (Mid-2011 Core i7) Slow after Yosemite Upgrade
I've searched the other "slow after Yosemite upgrade" threads but those seem to relate to Core Duo 2 machines with less RAM. I have a Core i7 MM w/ 8GB of RAM, after the Yosemite upgrade it constantly lags, I can barely type on it these days because the text lags so badly. It's unusable to say the least. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? There must be a reason why the performance is so bad.
Problem description:
Slow after Yosemite upgrade.

I have a Mac mini (Mid 2011). It has become slow in some ways even though I have 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory and almost 250GB of free storage. I recently installed Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25) but I had noticed the slow down prior to that. Notably, videos no longer run smoothly. Instead, there are brief pauses in playback. I initially thought it was a problem with streaming videos but then found the same problem playing TV shows and movies downloaded from the iTunes store.
There are now also lags for starting up certain programs and many programs seems sluggish once open. Not sure what could have caused the slow down since I don't even use the computer at issue very much and haven't recently installed any new software. No programs launch with log-in and all notifications are turned off. Any ideas? If there's a problem specifically related to video, I'd be interested in hearing that too. I use a Samsung monitor but it and everything else about my computer used to work perfectly and videos ran smoothly until fairly recently.EtreCheck version: 2.1.8 (121)

My Mac Mini (Mid 2011) doesn't connect to Time Capsule in 5GHz Network. This WiFi Network don't appear in the WiFi list. What's Wrong?
Oh yes, & 5 GHz doesn't do walls very well at all.
GHz and Network Range
The higher the frequency of a wireless signal, the shorter its range. Thus, 2.4 GHz networks cover a substantially larger range than 5 GHz wireless networks. In particular, the higher frequency wireless signals of 5 GHz networks do not penetrate solid objects nearly as well as do 2.4 GHz signals, limiting their reach inside homes.

Windows 8 Release Preview on Mac Mini mid 2011
I was wondering if its possible to install Windows 8 Release Preview on a Mac Mini mid 2011 via Bootcamp (Mainly for gaming purposes)
I've finally got it installed on my HP Touchsmart 610-1000t (or whatever the number is).....
Apparently it's a graphics card/driver issue.
I downloaded the enterprise final release and it did the same thing to me (black screen etc etc).
In the end, I highly doubt some of these models are compatible with windows 8 if the final release is giving me the same problem. The only difference is- now the sleep button worked, so I fiddled around with it until I got it fully installed (user created). After doing so, I booted into Safe mode and disabled the graphics driver/restarted and it booted up fine/works fine. Every now and then it crashes on IE10. I wasn't able to test the touch capabilities during the releases between developer and final, so it wasn't until now I can finally test the functionarlity of ALL the gesture functionality. I can say, the combination of the touch screen desktop and short cut keys makes everything so much quicker and easier. I perfer windows 8 over windows 7 on my touchscreen, finally the touchscreen experience is much better! Of course I still use my keyboard and mouse. The touch pinning/swiping is awesome. I can't say the same for normal desktops in a corporate environment (without touchscreens).....I can say however- windows 8 tablets would be really nice in place of my Ipad or my laptop that I carry around from meeting to meeting, thus the reason I'm waiting for the Surface! CItrix and apps can only take you so far. -
Does a 500 GB SSD work in a Mac Mini (mid 2011)?
I have a Mac Mini (mid 2011), 2.5 GHz and 4 GB of memory.
The iOS app called MacTracker says that this model is "configurable to 256 GB solid-state drive or 256 GB solid-state drive and 750 GB (7200-rpm) hard drive".
I was thinking about buying a Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive. My doubt is: will it work in my Mac Mini or the maximum storage must be 256 GB? If it runs a 500 GB SSD, a Samsung EVO SSD would be a possible (or a perfect) choice? The info from MacTracker brings up the options available in a Configuration to Order
at the time the product was new; so that tells people who may have found their unit
bought with odd specs, such upgrade may be due to a CTO Apple factory upgrade.
Other options that can work, of even higher spec capacity, can be researched in
such mac-centric sites as macsales.com and others who have a reputation for
customer service and quality products; many have information on their sites...
Doesn't hurt to ask. OWC macsales may even have an online chat. Info on how
to upgrade Apple products with later parts (out of warranty, etc) is available in
their page as well as iFixit.com guides. Everymac.com also offers spec info.

Mac mini mid 2011 and logic pro 9 in 64-bit?
Hi,
I have a mac mini mid 2011 with a 2.7HGz intel core i7 processor and 8 GB of RAM. I have been using Logic Pro 9 in 32-bit mode and tried switching to 64-bit mode. I unchecked the "open in 32-bit mode" in the "get inf" section, but logic still opens in 32-bit mode.
My question is: Can my computer run Logic Pro 9 in 64-bit mode???
Thankyou!Hi there jdtay2,
It looks like your model of Mac Mini does have a 64-bit processor according to the article "How to tell if your Intel-based Mac has a 32-bit or 64-bit processor"

As far as opening Logic Pro in 64-bit mode, you will first want to make sure that you have the most updated version, as 64-bit support was added in the v9.1 update. The article below has more information about Logic Pro and 64-bit mode.

i have a mac mini mid 2011, this device have; 2,3GHz and 2 Gb Memmory.I want to upgrade the memory and i need the list of supported memory modules. i am from turkey.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mid 2011 Mac mini supports 8 GB of memory officially, but you can install up to 16 GB of RAM, so you can use 2, 4 and 8 GB modules. You can buy more RAM from OWC or Crucial.
If you are looking for memory at a local shop, make sure you buy 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4432?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US -
Mac Mini (Mid 2011) display artifacts HDMI to DVI at native res
Hello,
I recently changed monitor configurations and in the process moved my Mac Mini (Mid 2011) to a HP LP2065 monitor. The connection is made through the stock supplised HDMI to DVI adapter. The monitor and the DVI cable work successfully with other machines.
What occurs is only certain colors, usually black, result in the display being red and/or sparkling and/or static (like TV static) when the monitor is set at its native resolution of 1600x1200.
If I bump the resolution down to 1280x1024, or lower, the black color returns and I see no display glitches. If I bring the resolution back up to 1600x1200, the display artifacts return.
A few google searches suggest I use a DisplayPort to DVI adapter instead as some monitors are "finicky". Does anyone agree with that? It seems peculiar to me -- why would a digital signal have analog-looking glitches?
Any ideas welcome.. thanks for readingYour monitor has a native pixel resolution of 1920x1200. There is no point in trying for 1080-p or -i.
I run two 1920x1200 monitors via HDMI (with passive cable adapters where necessary) and I use these choices:
...and they are both pixel-sharp, filling the screen, and yet menu bars totally visible! -
Highest dual display resolution for mac mini mid 2011
I am currently running a mac mini mid 2011. As I've understood (according to the below statement). Am I only able to use 2 secreen with 1920x1200 or could I use one screen with 2560x1600 and one with 1920x1200. I do NOT want mirroring, only dual displays.
I am going to connect the screens in the following way:
1x mini-dvi - HDMI to one screen.
1x HDMI - HDMI to the other screen.
Display Support:
Dual Displays
Resolution Support:
1920x1200*
Details:
*This model simultaneously supports 1920x1200 on an HDMI display or a DVI display using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapterand 2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with an optional Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter, which is compatible with the Thunderbolt port).
2nd Display Support:
Dual/Mirroring*
2nd Max. Resolution:
2560x1600*
Details:
*This model simultaneously supports 1920x1200 on an HDMI or a DVI display (using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter) and2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with an optional Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter, which is compatible with the Thunderbolt port).
Thanks in advance
RichAccording to the copy&paste from wikipedia, HDMI should support higher resolution than 1920x1200. So the question is, does it aupport that on the mid 2011 mac mini. It says in the specifications
"Mac mini is designed to work with HDMI devices that comply with versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.2a, 1.3, 1.3a, and 1.4 of the HDMI specification."
That should mean it should be able to support it, but I don't know : <

I just bought a new Mac mini (mid 2011) and can not set it up via my Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003). I'm disheartened but not surprised that my Bluetooth 4.0 Mac isn't backwards-compatible with my Bluetooth 1.0 keyboard. But I can't find any documentation confirming the fact that my non-paired, but tested & perfectly functioning keyboard will not work with current Macs.
I was however, able to locate a tech support doc (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4112) that mentions my Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003) is not compatible with iOS devices. (Which is not critical because iOS provides a non-physical keyboard. Aside, it would be lovely were Apple to add a non-physical keyboard to Mac OS X, if only so new desktop owners can continue to set up their Macs in a pinch.)I just bought a new mini mac (lion 2011) with a wireless keyboard. I could not get the mac to recognise the keyboard. Spent several hours back with the Genius team who replaced keyboard and mac but did not get anywhere. They gave me a wired keyboard, was able to configure the mac and then it recognised the wireless keyboard.
Seems this is a problem with the new mac/OS
