Mac Mini, Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter, & Boot Camp with Windows 7?

Can a 2011 Mac Mini be connected to a VGA monitor using the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter while running Windows 7 by means of Boot Camp?  The Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is described at the below URL:

  • Unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly on Boot Camp with Windows 7

I recently installed Boot Camp and Windows 7 on my Mac Book Pro with no problems.
A month later, I am unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly.
It states that I am connected to my router.
When I trouble shoot, it cannot find the problem.
My wireless connection and cable connection are fine on the MAC side.
    Please help.

looks a like a Windows 7 problem. I assume that you can click on the current connection info on the task bar and see a connection to your wireless router?  Have you updated your copy of Windows since it was working? I am wondering if it's an update that's applied in Windows which has done something.

  • Boot camp with windows 7 downloaded online?

I have a summer 2012 mac book pro running Mac OSX 10.7.4 (this is my first mac product, I bought it like a month ago so I know much). I am intersted in being able to boot Windows 7 though Apple Boot Camp. Windows 7 professional is avialable to me for free though my University but only by online download so I don't have a physical windows installation disk. Can I still use the free windows 7 provided by my unversity even though I don't have the installation disk? How would I do this? All the instructions i've read talks about using a windows 7 installation disk. Can my bring my Mac book pro into a genius bar for someone to help me though this? (I did purchase the 3 year apple care thing and im still within 90 days since I purchased my MBP.)

try burning window 7 to a cd first.
when you download window 7 is it in an image file?

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA in Boot Camp

    Hi all!
So I'm looking to unload my old G4 laptop and get a new MacBook or MacBook Pro. But there's something... scaring me.
I do a lot of video mixing through projectors or TVs, often in situations where s-video is the only available option (I usually do it in straight SD video). And right now, I have to depend on a Windows laptop with an s-video port for using Resolume. So the idea of having a machine with Boot Camp, running everything, is great.
But only if I can go out from it into a projector! On the Mac side, it looks like that would work fine---I'd just buy the Apple mini DisplayPort to VGA dongle:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A
And then, if I need to go to s-video (which I often do), get a little scan converter, like:
    http://www.grandtec.com/products/video/untimateEZ.html
But my concern is---does the mini DisplayPort to VGA dongle work in Boot Camp? If so, I'll be very happy. If not... If not I just might have to buy a Windows laptop, and will be very sad indeed.
    Thanks for your help!

  • HT3492 mini displayport to vga adapter not working under windows 7

i've read the article above. How can this firmware affect operation under Windows 7 OS? I have a dual boot system and tested several mini dp-vga adapter, all of them seem to either stop working after a while or doesnt work at all. i have a macbook pro 13"(early 2011) and a macmini i5 4gb

I'm having the same problem. When I try to connect to the switch in our conference room (connecting both a flat panel display and/or a projector, both with much higher native resolutions), all I get is 640x480. This is a huge problem to using bootcamp, and I really need to get this to work. I was able to get a higher resolution 1280x800 on a separate, portable display, so I'm wondering if people have the problem with standalone projectors or only with projectors connected to some sort of switch, in my case an Extron MPX423A. I have also tried this in both Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows 7 RC1 (32-bit), with the bootcamp drivers and the latest NVidia drivers, and the behavior is the same all around.

  • Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter Having Issues with My Samsung 40" HDTV

So I ordered the brand new 15" i7 Macbook Pro along with the Apple wireless magic mouse and wireless keyboard after having bought my HDTV (went on a bit of a spree) with the intention of using the TV as a monitor for couch surfing. But, upon hooking up the adapter to the TV, my macbook's screen flickered between that blue transitionary screen and it's desktop screen. It did this for a few minutes. I jiggled the cable thinking that there was a loose connection somewhere as that was the problem with my previous mini DVI to VGA adapter from Apple. I did a little research and it turns out that they released a firmware update in 2009 for such a problem. I downloaded the update and attempted to install it but it did not determine that there was even an adapter connected. So, I proceeded to call Apple, they man was very calming to talk to and make all of my problems seem to melt away, but there were no solutions reached. He thought that maybe my TV either had a problem or was incompatible with the adapter (incompatible with a VGA connection? can you get any more analoge that that?). So, here I am, the adapter seems not to have a problem with regular monitors but I am still experiencing intermittent disconnects from my TV. I still, superstitiously jiggle the connection whenever I have dropouts but that really doesn't seem to be the issue here (or at least I hope not because that could mean port issues with my new laptop). Any suggestions? I noticed, after changing some settings on my TV, in an attempt to remedy this, that the TV was displaying the picture funny, I turned the TV off and then on again and it fixed the problem. That being said, perhaps I just need to turn my TV completely off when I'm not using it, as I have been just letting it go into standby. Maybe it needs a restart every so often much like my computer. I don't currently have data to support that theory as I just recently tried turning it off, but, since then have not had dropouts.

You may have the screen refresh rate set higher than the TV is generally able to track reliably. It may be able to get there most times, but occasionally loses sync because it is out of its nominal range.
I suggest you sit down with the manual for the TV and find out what resolutions at what refresh rates it intends to support through VGA, and make sure your screen settings are near (or below) those limits.

  • I can access internet via boot camp with windows 7, but not when I use the Mac w/Mt Lion side. Thanks for any tips!

I'm using a 2012 Intel-based iMac with Mt. Lion and Windows 7 with Boot Camp. I used to be able to access the internet on both sides. Now, my only internet access is through Boot Camp. At one point, access was unable on both sides but IE in Windows 7 automatically diagnosed the problem, changed some settings (which I don't know) and I could access the internet on both sides . . . for a while. Now, I can only get online in Boot Camp. Since IE detects no problems it doesn't apply the fix as it did before. Does anybody know what's going on?
I should mention that I installed Boot Camp because there is no Mac version of the software (VantagePoint)  I need to use (duh).  I wanted to be able to use the software w/o rebooting all the time so I installed Fusion. Of course, I didn't ask the VantagePoint techs if this would solve my issue. It didn't - VantagePoint won't work with Fusion, but it will with Parallels. So I installed Parallels and imported Boot Camp. Apparantly, it was not set up properly, I'm getting all kinds of errors reported in Console (e.g. "Found cross-bounds GPT partition. GPT disk detected," mdworker cannot talk to sandbox, etc.).  The VantagePoint techs say the first step in a VM retry is to regain internet access to the Mac.
Anybody who can help will become my new best friend. Thanking you.

Are you using a MacBook Pro? Is everything installed on the same drive?
I would love to know how that install was performed. When I install Windows under boot camp, my MacBook Pro drive ends up with 4 partitions: Mac, Mac Recovery, Windows, and a small partition that I believe is used by boot camp.
Installing BitLocker on Windows requires the creation of a new small partition that Windows will boot off. The small partition is unencrypted, while the primary Windows partition will get encrypted. The following post discusses the maximum partition issue: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22753791#22753791
Has anyone installed Windows through boot camp on it's own drive, and if so, can BitLocker be installed on that without reaching any partition limit? I'm assuming that's possible, but would like to know before I spend hundreds on new hardware.

  • Video Out in Boot Camp with Windows XP

Sorry, this is my first help request... i hope i write in a correct section.
I installed Windows XP SP2 with boot camp in my Mac Book Pro. I have the third part MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adapter with audio. I use it for projector. I always use it without problems.
With Windows XP i can't use it... i don't know why. The adapter is power off (led is off) and i don't know what i have to do for use second monitor in woindows XP.
I know about FN+F5 in windows... but in Mac F5 is keyboard light and if i set Functions keys as normal key (from Boot Camp Options) F5 is refresh key and fn+F5 is the keyboard light.
So what i have to do?
    Thaks

Yes, XP will be able to detect the expansion card if you download the appropriate drivers online. When bootcamp was first starting... this article circulated http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305401... summary, you should remove the fiber channel card before bootcamping. Since then the software has gone through the proper modifications that you can just plug the card in, boot into windows, and download the LSi driver for XP.
So you'll have no problem setting this up.
    Cheers

  • Use of Fiber Channel in Boot Camp with Windows XP

    Hi All,
I am looking at getting a Mac Pro for a project that requires I use Windows XP under boot camp and wanted to know if there were any problems accessing a RAID array via the standard 4GB Fiber Channel adapter available through apple. I don't need to boot off this drive, just access data on it. Not a lot of information on the official apple support pages...
    Thanks!

  • Can my MacBook Pro use boot camp with Windows 7 with BitLocker encryption?

I'm at wit's end with this, and I'm hoping I can get some advice here.  I've read so many forum, posts and reviews that I'm not entirely sure what I can trust.
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,3). I need to run Windows encrypted for work purposes. It needs to be real windows with full-disk encryption (FDE). The business tools run in boot camp, but not in Parallels, because Parallels doesn't support DirectX 11. I would also benefit greatly from an SSD.
I do not want to do anything hacky like removing the Mac reocovery partition, because I've read that just loading Disk Utility in OS X might mess up your patrition boot tables as it tries to "fix" things. I don't want to have to manually reocover to fix stuff or chance losing data.
I have read (and tried) installing BitLocker on Windows 7 Ultimate under boot camp, but ran into the partition limit on my internal HDD. A maximum of 4 partitions are allowed, and between OS X, its recovery, boot camp, and the Windows partition, all 4 are used.
I have considered one of the following, which may work:
Install OWC's Data Doubler Kit with an additional 240GB SSD (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DDMBS6E240/). I would replace the internal SuperDrive with the HDD, and install the new SSD on the faster SATA 6G port. Windows would be installed on the SSD and OS X would stay on the HDD.
Replace the internal HDD with a new SSD (keeping the SuperDrive). I would lose OS X altogether and just have Windows installed.
Forget the entire thing and just buy a PC for work.
My thoughts are that with option both options #1 and #2, I don't even know if these setups will allow BitLocker. In both cases, Windows will be the only partition on the drive, so I'm assuming that when BitLocker is installed, there will be room for the new partition it creates. With option #1, I'm pretty sure I'd still be using Boot Camp, but how would that would for option #2? Is boot camp used even though there is no Mac partition? Would I still need to keey the Mac Recovery partition for this to work? I'd probably need to use Boot Camp drivers under Windows, I think.
I'd certainly be interested in using a self-encrypting drive (SED), especially a SSD, but I'm concerned that most of them appear to require TPM or BIOS functions that Mac's EFI does not provide. Such a drive would allow me to drop BitLocker, but I would need to be use the self-encryption actually works on this setup. From what I've read, most of the SED drives will work just fine under EFI, but you won't be able to set or access the encryption password, which pretty much makes these drives unencrypted.
I've read that BitLocker can be configured to use a flash drive as a decryption key, but I haven't been able to test that yet. I'm tried creating bootable flash drives under Windows and OS X, and none of them seem to appear when I access the boot menu (hold option during boot chime). I don't even know if this system supports bootable USB flash drives, or whether they can be used as a BitLocker key under boot camp.
For the record, I have attempted to use an external thunderbolt drive as my Windows partition, but Windows doesn't want to be installed on removable media, and even if it worked, I believe you can only boot OS X from thunderbolt. I do have a second OS X install booting from the thunderbolt drive, so I know that works. Also, FileVault 2 is installed on my OS X partition, and I read something about FV2 using the Recovery partition somehow so you can't remove the recovery partition to make room for BitLocker.
So ... does anyone have any suggestions preferably based on personal experience as to whether options #1 or #2 should work for my needs?
At this point, I'm really thinking I should just bite the bullet and purchase a PC that I will forever look down upon.

  • Boot Camp with Windows 7

I just ordered a new MacBook Pro 17" and would like to run Boot Camp on it with Windows 7. If I just go ahead and buy Windows 7 from the Microsoft Store with a download CD will this work? I have heard rumors that you first have to partition it with Windows XP and then upgrade it to Windows 7? Any tips anyone has for me for doing this would be much appreciated.

Make sure your not looking at an "upgrade" version, you would have to have XP already in order to use Window 7 then. Otherwise it's just a rumor.
If you download it, all you have to do is burn the image at 2x speed like "Thehatter" said and then you will have a permanent copy also.
You might ask Microsoft, or do a search, and see if you have to burn it as an "ISO" (it becomes a Bootable disk instead of just a copy) or whatever. I haven't done it yet so I don't know myself. It might have instructions with the download.
    Go here:
-- http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ -- and read the Windows 7 FAQ, Boot Camp FAQ and the Installation Guide a couple of times and by the time your computer get's here you should have a pretty good idea on how to do it.
Basically you just click on BootCamp Assistant in the Utility folder and then just follow the instructions. Have the Windows 7 and Mac-OS Installer disk ready.
Download the Installation Guide and read it a few times to familiarize yourself.
It's really not that hard. You might even read some of the older posts in this forum just to see some questions and answers you might have.

  • Installing Boot Camp with Windows XP

I just bought a new game for my computer, but as it turns out, it's a PC ONLY game. So I thought I'd try out Boot Camp for the Mac. I went to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-xp/default.aspx and clicked on "Important: Download Windows XP Service Pack 3". After that it goes on about why you should install it and so on. But the thing I was wondering about, is if I buy that, will I be able to install it using Boot Camp.
I appreciate any and all responses.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
first things first: from the link you mentioned you only get the Service Pack 3 for Windows XP and not the operating system Windows XP itself.
That Service Pack will only install on a WIndows XP that is already installed.
Have a read through the BootCamp Installation Guide to be found here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ plus the additional FAQs there.
You have to buy yourself a Windows XP; Vista or Windows 7 to install it on your Mac with BootCamp.
Depending on what Windows game it is you wanna play, you can also have buy and use Crossover Games for Mac https://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/
Look through their compatibility list http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/ whether that game is supported.

  • Trying to Boot Camp with Windows 8.1 Problem

I'm trying to Boot Camp my Mac with Windows 8.1 and have been getting this problem:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved."
I did a search for help with this topic and found 100s of threads with the same problem. However, from what I read it seemed that the problem is that there wasn't enough continuous space to create the partition. I'm skeptical to believe the same is the case with my problem, and if it is then I'm quite disappointed with Apple.
The reason being that I bought and opened this computer literally yesterday (Nov 24th, 2014) it is the latest model MBP 15'' 2.8 Ghz and 16GB of RAM, and 1 TB SSD. I find it hard to believe that in 980 GB of un-used space, boot camp can not find 95 GB (what I'm trying to partition) that are continuous.
I saw that the most common solution to this was doing the whole back up, delete and restore method. Are there any simpler methods that do not require an external hard drive (as I don't currently have one).
Thank you very much in advance to anyone who can help.

Oddly enough, this is what seemed to do the trick,  I've now got a fully working Windows 8.1 partition running on my rMBP:
    Solution:
Finally got this working, thanks to a person named "turbostar" over on discussions.apple.com:
Re-run Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Windows partition and restore the full Mac HD as a single partition.
Run a PRAM reset (restart, while screen is still black, hold down ⌘+Option+P+R and keep them pressed until you hear the startup sound a second time).
Open disk utility and repair permissions on the Macintosh HD partition. TWICE.
    Start Boot Camp Assistant again.
Seems hokey. With those instructions I thought I would also have to stand on one foot, point to my nose, rub my belly, and hope for rain. But it did end up working.

  • Installing mac os x on an existing dual-booted laptop (with windows/linux)

    Hey everybody,
I am wondering if any of you have advice for the best way of going about installing a version of the Mac operating system on my Dell laptop, considering that I already have Windows and Linux (SuSE) in a dual-boot environment, and an Intel Pentium 4-M processor (which I think is x86?)...
I've looked at the Mac store and it looks like OS X Tiger is only for PPC processors. Is there a way to get it to run on my processor?
The reason I am doing this is that I really want to test a website I am developing on Mac browsers, like Safari and IE on Mac, but I can't afford to buy a new Mac system (nor do I really want to, since I use this one computer for everything).
Also, would the Mac installer be able to partition my drive for me automatically?
    Thanks!
    Stephen

Just make your web site standards compliant and we'll be fine.
The only trouble we'd have is if you started coding your sites chock-full of Microsoft ActiveX garbage.
And don't bother coding your web site to function on IE for Mac. Most Mac users are smart enough to not use a dead web browser which hasn't been supported or updated in years. Microsoft ended its life long ago.
